    Day 1 – Ireland – CD 🚫 ✅ 🚶🏽‍♀️ 🌾
    153.4 lbs

Welcome to this Atomic August challenge – I am taking over from @merryapple who guided us wonderfully through Fly in July 💕. I’ll be a relaxed host this month as it’s summertime here and I have some busy times but once the monthly challenge is set up it really does run itself and everyone supports each other.

Atomic for me means small consistent changes working to achieve long lasting results… but it means different things to different people so go with what you feel is right for you…⚛️ 🤯 💥

Inspired by Atomic Habits 📚 📖 by James Clear which is also close to hand to remind me that slowly slowly we get there… with all habits we want to change or build, not just weight loss.

Now… the emojis… just random bright colours I thought looked like atoms 😂 (I’m no scientist) and bright as you say @merryapple. Green grass and trees, blue sky and sea, and yellow sun and sand.

I couldn’t find one for atomic the other day and somehow didn’t see the atoms ⚛️ emoji @funshipfreddie posted… I see it now and did think about updating the title but quite like the bright dots now.. Hope you all do too.

    My intro for any newcomers:
The first challenge I joined was October 2017…and I’ve been intermittently fasting in all senses of that phrase 😂 since. Sometimes it’s hard to do but you fall off and you just climb back on again… 🧗‍♂️

My name is a little play on words as I am a french speaker so “J’ai faim” means “I’m hungry” but also stands for Just Another Intermittent Fast And I’ll Maintain…it makes me smile 😊

I recently reached maintenance – but it is hard and I bob up again after holidays etc. I’ll stay between 152 and 155lbs this month💪

I love being outdoors even in our lovely Irish weather and cycle, walk, swim in the sea. I do some strength work too now… should do more…

I stay away from alcohol 🚫 most of the time and have reduced added sugars ✅ and eat gluten free 🌾 because of intolerance symptoms – headaches mostly no gut issues. I’ve recently fallen back into the habit of more sugar and it is doing me zero favours so that’s the focus again this month.

I have two auto immune conditions and the above foods definitely cause flare ups if I take them in … along with hormone deficiencies now due to my age. My little icons help me to stick to clean nutrition.

Ok here we go.. August let’s have you! 💪 ⚛️

Day 1, Germany, FD 64.2 kg

    Good morning everyone!

I’m a Dutchwoman living in the upper North-West of Germany, married, 68 years old, 163 cm/5’4″ tall. I’m here on and off since 2017, lost a lot of weight and gained a lot again. I’m not eating enough vegetables, I don’t like salads and have problems digesting them so I steam everything.

@jaifaim Thank you so much for setting up the challenge again, thanks to @merryapple for the spreadsheet and last month’s excellent hosting and thanks to @funshipfreddie for the extra information.

@jaifaim and @merryapple My weight is still up as was my BP yesterday. I had to push it down with extra medication. I think you’re right @merryapple, I’m going back to basics with doing 5:2 for this month.

    Day 1 NZ FD 70.8kg

I went to bed at 6pm and have just arisen at 3pm with a classic viral illness- HA, aching joints and temp… the easiest FD I’ve done for a while 😕
I knew there was an atomic emoji somewhere but I couldn’t find it @funshipfreddie!! And here’s the other one!🤯
I’m thinking that @jaifaim’s colours as green grass, blue sky and sunshine, not an atomic ‘thunderbirds are go’ countdown!!

To those who might be watching – just jump in. We all had a few false starts before we got going. It’s better to be here than not!! Over time it helps you to organise your eating habits and gives you the confidence to develop a healthy relationship with healthy food🙂

    Day 31 – USA-TN NFD

Alas, I had tons of sodium yesterday, which resulted in a gain of 3lbs! Clocked in on the last day of July at 145, although I know it’s temporary. Thank you, @merryapple, and whoever else posted about the food poisoning incident…I am much better. I only had about 3 FDs this month, but it’s 3 days more than I’ve had in quite a while. My outlook for August is that I will slide below 140 and hopefully maintain from then on. Thank you for hosting July, @merryapple, and thank you @jaifaim, for volunteering for August! @ccco, all the best to you! Your enthusiasm and gentle downplaying of your recent illness is an inspiration to me!

  • Atomic August 🟢🔵🟡

    @jaifaim…. Thank you for hosting!

Hoping to get my ducks back in a straight line…. This month. Can’t promise the squirrels will cooperate…. But I’ll try not to let them distract me too much!

  • FLY in JULY🧨 2024

    Day 31…. Florida……CD

My apologies, I’ve been rather preoccupied as of late. I’m finishing out the month down a few pounds. Sticking strictly to a 16:8, getting in FD when I can and when I can’t trying to be a very calorie controlled.

Hoping next month, I can get on here more consistently

  • FLY in JULY🧨 2024

    Apologies! Try the sheet now…
I can never quite get it right… and can’t remember from one month to the next what to tick…😵‍💫

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

    Evening!
Hi Sarah & welcome! If you haven’t already you could take some measurements, that can be encouraging if you don’t always lose to see those change…I’ve done the 800 cals for 2 weeks before- hard work so well done! We all help each other keep strong on here so keep popping in! We talk about all sorts on here, not just fasting!
    Dave- excellent needing new shorts!
Jean- was Charlie shattered after his visit to the kennels? Glad he enjoyed it..
Hemmy- hope it’s not been too hot for you & Mr Pips! Did you grow much veg this year, is it doing well?
Steve- hope the new TV is good, if you can’t work it you’ll have to ask Dave- he’s the gadget man!
Nana- hope you’re feeling better xx
Another hot day here, walked Xena in the forest so not too warm, we did our shopping but resisted anything naughty … Painted the other side of the shed & some of the trellis fencing this afternoon, we had fish & veg from the garden with it, first time we’ve had enough beans for two, the veg has been so slow apart from the courgettes… hopefully a FD tomorrow, although I’m feeling a bit stressed at the moment, both the boys are worrying me with work woes!

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

Good luck in your quest Sarah, I’ve lost over 5 stone so it is doable. Keep coming on here and letting us know how it’s going. And when you start the 5-2 don’t overeat on non fast days.

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

    Hi All

I’m new here – three days in and 3 stone to go although I haven’t weighed myself since Monday morning.

I’m from Surrey, UK – a true Brit in every way. At the moment for the first week i’m doing the Fast 800 – then I plan to either do another week of that again, or to go to 5:2.

Definitely hungry but I have eaten a celery stick and had a lovely hot marmite to drink!

    Sarah

  • Hello – So here I am!!

Thank you – going ok – three days in. I am cooking from the book every night and eating one portion and putting the rest in the freezer! Tonight is the ratatouile 🙂

Day 31 North Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 NFD

Decided not to do a fast day today, I am going to do one tomorrow. It’s been a very stressful morning. My husband and I help to run a local dog club and one of our member’s puppy went missing on a walk yesterday. I have spent ages on social media sharing posts and making posts to share. I do hope the puppy is found. Unfortunately it does look like someone has taken her 😢
Thank you all for your kind comments about my weight loss. I was heavier than normal when I got back from holiday so that weight probably came off quick. I have tried to stick to the original 5:2 diet on fast days, eating around 500 calories. Cutting out wine in the week probably helped too as well as not going silly at the weekend.

@ccco I cannot believe July is over either. Where has this year gone.

@jaifaim can’t wait until I can be in maintenance range.

@brightonbelle well done on your weight loss.

@merryapple congratulations on your weight loss.

@snowflake56 I love a political chat, but if I have one with my sister we end up arguing. We have such opposing political views😂

@northgeorgia thank you for your explanation of what an Endler is.

@funshipfreddie well done for still being at maintenance.

Stay strong 💪 together we can do it.

    USA. Day 31

I can’t believe July is over! For me, the last few months have been more than I normally would handle, so August is going to be a quiet peaceful month for me. I need it! :). Thank you, Merryapple for your thoughts and I am very much looking forward to that birthday! 🥳👍🏻

Hope everyone is having a great day! 😊

Hopped on scales before I left home yesterday and I was 1 – 2 lbs down for the month which I’ll take Thanks for hosting @merry🍎

    See you all in August

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

SuzyQ, well done on the first kg gone. I think all of us here had/have a tendency to over eat, that’s what got us here in the first place. Most of us found that, over time, 5:2 helped shape our food desires and portions. There’s also a tendency to over eat the day before and after a FD but that also goes away with more FD experience behind you. While I was so overweight (25kg more than now), I had no idea which foods affected my weight gain. Now I’m acutely aware. One other thing to consider is that we need to be eating the number of calories for the weight we want to be, not the weight we are. That’s where most of us failed on previous diet efforts – as soon as we reached the desired weight, we returned to our previous eating patterns.

Neil and SuzyQ, teaching your own children: One of our friends in Perth was taught in an outback country town by her mother – all primary grades in one class. One evening, she was arguing with her mum at home and said, “Well, Mrs Collins says …..”. (Mrs Collins being her mum!).

Neil, you are so funny. Did you also teach your wife to drive?! As soon as our DD had the first driving lesson, we were informed of all the things we’d been doing wrong – so maybe get a few professional lessons in soon! Hurray for your kg gone too.

CalifD, those fires are a concern. Hurray for shedding the weight. Late night snacking isn’t helpful, is it? When DD returned from South America, she negotiated a much better pay package and a 3 day work week with her previous employer – but it’s only for four months. She gets a car supplied and housing. When she visits, we find a bridge with road access and a safe place to park a car and then use ‘what3words’ to convey the place. The last one was a swing bridge that we’d just passed through.

England does have a good public transport system though – OH and I both have a bus pass which is one of the few advantages of getting old. I remember in California, we couldn’t walk anywhere except to the beach and a car was essential for every little thing. No public transport.

Cinque, I’m enjoying reading about your semi-fast days – even better for slowing down the freezer food consumption.

For any new joiners this month:-

These monthly challenges were started by @coda in May 2016 and have been going strong ever since. Goals can be overwhelming when viewed as a whole. But by breaking them down into small achievable pieces (monthly challenges), we are able to stay focused and motivated to accomplish our goals one step at a time in bite-sized monthly challenges.
There are no rules, but as a general guide, here are some tips for any new people:
    1. Posting – Please start each post with the day of the month, where you are, and if you’re on a fast day (FD), non-fast day (NFD) or controlled day (CD). We’re all over the world and in different time zones so it helps us keep track of which day we’re talking about, who else is fasting with us on a particular day etc. Look at the various posts, and you’ll soon see the pattern, and will learn how useful it is for reading.
    2. In your first post, please introduce yourself to the group – this helps us to get to know each other, which is especially helpful for newbies. Perhaps say something about where you started, your journey so far, what you’re aiming for or how you are benefiting from fasting. You might like to include your starting weight or your goals for the month. But you don’t have to – share only what you are comfortable sharing online.
    3. Spreadsheet – we will have a spreadsheet available and we will post the link on a separate post when we have it. It will be in alphabetical order by username. If you find it helpful, you can use it to record and track your progress as well as keeping track of how others are doing. It can help with perspective, accountability or planning. And if you need help just ask – there’s always someone happy to help. But you don’t have to use it if you don’t want to. It’s just another tool you can use if you choose.
    4. Frequency – Some people post daily, others check in every few days. Some are brief, others are long and chatty. If you’re posting for a second time in the same day please head your post e.g. Day 1 – 2nd Post. Past history shows that posting every day truly does help with motivation for staying on track with your goals, so please don’t feel shy about suddenly posting daily; we love new members!
    5. Content of your post– Comments or questions, complaints or celebration – anything you’d like to share with the forum. Recipes, tips, tricks and bright ideas are always welcome. Remember: we all have good days and bad days, days we fall off the wagon or days when we are hanging on by our fingernails, days when our mojo deserts us and days where we feel completely in control. So DON’T GIVE UP – whatever it is, you are not alone!
    6. Community – This is a worldwide forum so there’s usually someone online. We all do our best to offer advice, support and solidarity
    7. Pocket lists –A ‘pocket list’ is a list of the names of people who are sharing the same goal on a particular day. It’s great psychological support in mentally keeping that list in our back pocket, knowing we’re not alone. Anyone can join a pocket list or start a pocket list. Typical pocket lists are for FD but in the past they’ve been used for people doing daily exercise or planks, or DTF (dry till Friday).
    8. 5:2 basics – answers to many FAQs plus top tips:
https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/
    9. The “rule”. The F word is not allowed!! (This is the only time I will use it – but here, the F word is FAIL.). We all stumble in our journey – it happens. But acknowledge it, think about what you can do next time, and continue. We’re all here to help!

We tend to use a LOT of abbreviations in these posts. Here’s a guide to some of the more frequently used ones:

    5:2 – 5 days NFD – 2 days FD

    16:8 – 16 hours fast – 8 hours non fast

    IF – Intermittent Fasting

ADF – Alternate Day Fasting (FD – NFD – FD – etc)

    AF – Alcohol-free

B2B – Back to Back (consecutive FDs)

    BMR – Basal metabolic Rate

CFD – Controlled Food Day (a day’s eating comfortably below your TDEE)

DH, DD, DS – Darling Husband, Daughter, Son

DTF – Dry ’til Fri (no wine, beer, etc.)

EE – Emotional Eating (reflex grazing out of a need for instant comfort instead of satisfying hunger)

EFS – Epic Face Stuffing (Definitely due to a faulty OFF button!)

FD – Fast Day (500 cals)

    FD800 – Fast Day 800 calories

Hunger Dragon – that dreadful psychological beast that sometimes cannot be satisfied. Some people even name theirs (e.g. @i-hate-lettuce had an inner warthog!)

    IF – Intermittent Fasting

Keto – way of eating that generates Ketones

KISS – Keep It Simple Stupid!!!

LC – Low Carb way of eating

LCHF – Low Carb High Fat way of eating

LFD – Liquid Fast Day (incl. tea, coffee, miso, bone broth & water)

    LOL – Laughing Out Loud

    M/WOAM – Man/Woman on a Mission (courtesy of @i-hate-lettuce)

MFD – Modified Fast Day (800 cals) on the new
    Fast800, it’s a FD

MFP – MyFitnessPal – a smartphone app & website that tracks diet & exercise.

    NFD – Non Fast Day

OH – Other Half (eg spouse/partner)

OMAD – One Meal A Day

PFDS – Post FD Smugness (courtesy of moi!)
Pocket List – Names to “keep in your pocket” for a common goal for the day

TDEE – Total Daily Energy Expenditure (see the ‘how it works’ link on the home page to work out yours)

    TRE – Time Restricted Eating

WFD – Water Fast Day (Water only)

    WFH – Working From Home

    WOL – Way of Life

WOCA – Woman Of a Certain Age
WW – Weekend Warrior (c/- @jaifaim)
    ZBC – Zero Breakfast

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

    Good afternoon all

It’s a lovely day here anyone would think it was summer though it’s the start of August tomorrow and who knows what the Scottish weather will do then.

I’ve decided not to weigh myself this week as like Dave I’ve been feeling hungry but will definitely be good after the weekend.

The new tv has been chosen I’m sticking with a Samsung 32inch but this one is a smart tv so should be fun learning how to operate it. It should be delivered in the next few days as I’m tighter than a grinch at Christmas I chose the free delivery option.

    Dave

For a second there I thought you said you had gone with the kung fu chicken I really need to go to specsavers.

    Enjoy the good weather all

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

Good afternoon the Olympics are very good today. It’s lovely weather here again so shorts on again, I just bought 2 new pairs. I’m feeling very hungry this week so I’ll get weighed next week, it will be my first monthly visit to the weight loss program. Finding it difficult doing monthly instead of weekly visits.

  • FLY in JULY🧨 2024

    Day 31 – USA/GA – FD

Weigh-in 232 lbs. Endlers… as far as I understand they are a certain genetic expression of guppies. I started with three full-sized guppies originally, and nearly a decade of generations later, I’m left with Endlers. I prefer them because they are more than half the size of a guppy and still have interesting patterns and colors. Larger than neon tetras, but not by much, maybe 1 cm longer or so.

Anyway, it should be a good FD today. There is an afternoon retirement reception, but I will try to avoid the goodies. If it doesn’t work out, then I’ll postpone the FD until tomorrow.

    153.4lbs
Hi all, very glad to check in on the last day in maintenance range. This has been a very very very slow process…to actually reach and stay in maintenance – with a few days straying out because of fun times… the aim in August will be to stay in range and from then on be a maintainer…
Swam this morning in beautiful weather and clear blue sea… was just lovely.
@molij – just fabulous! Well done to you! A huge effort and result this month. ⭐️ I hope you can enjoy the time with family close by to your house 🏡💕
@northgeorgia it’s hard to say no to cake! Challenges all around. Have a good FD 👍
@stitchincarol enjoy the holidays and you can focus when you are back to routine. ⭐️
@merryapple a lot of butter! It’s great to think about the weight you’ve lost in that way… Yes… we can tick along nicely in August with everyone pitching in. Thank you for your fabulous hosting this month! We just flew it as we say here! 🤗
So Maungawhau is Mount Eden? I love learning a little about our differ t countries and cultures. 🇳🇿
@snowflake56 that is probably just a blip… I had one last week… big increase to 159 after fun with friends (and alcohol!!). August is yours 🙏
@ccco so inspired by you and your positivity! ⭐️⭐️⭐️

@funshipfreddie well done on maintaining 👍 I love vegetables and veggie dishes and can eat them as a snack although am also a fan of meat, fish etc. And fruit… ok I like food!!! 😂😂

Ok… have a great day everyone and see you tomorrow.

    Day 31-No. VA USA-FD

Ending the month on a fast day, and looking forward to Atomic August. Things have been quite hectic in the office this past month. Thank you @merryapple for hosting July; and thanks to @jaifaim for setting up our explosively, highly energetic month of August!
Definitely will need to focus, to get going downward again for the last pounds. The end of July saw me having some wine and some mixed drinks from time to time, and that does not help…Status quo, not acceptable in August!
    Down we go, everyone.

  • FLY in JULY🧨 2024

    Day 31 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD 70.8 kg

Well, not sure if the CD went exactly to plan. Dinner was 3 courses! Up 0.3 kg for the month, so still – just – at maintenance.

@stitchincarol – I don’t usually order salads or veggies with my lunch. The eggs/toast usually comes with avo or mushrooms though. I’m not really a fan of veggies, but I love fruit. Getting the ‘5 a day’ (at home) is surprisingly easy though, because a portion of fruit/veg is only 80 g. So a regular-sized apple would count as 2 portions. Then I usually have a little fruit with yogurt, e.g. blueberries or banana. And some mixed veg with dinner. I eat carrot most days too, but I only like it if it’s raw.

    @molij – wow?! Congratulations! 🥳️ 🎯

@merryapple – thanks so much for hosting Fly in July🧨️ 💐

See y’all in Atomic ⚛️ August

    Day 31 NZ 2nd post

    @snowflake56 Thank you!!
Try doing a basic 5:2 fastdiet for one week with simple food. You know the routine!! I am sure your weight will come down quickly in a couple of days. 5-6 days ago I was up 1+kg and pulled it back. If I can do it you can!! 💪

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

Good Morning all 🙂 Happy Wednesday !

I cannot beleieve it is August tomorrow, the year is simply flying away.

Gosh those fires sound scary. We get them here in the Cape area, thankfully I am in the Johannesburg area and we dont experience fires like that up here. Some of our surrounding game reserves have experienced fires recently , but not on the scale of what I have seen and heard about in Aus and california. Stay safe x

So I finally decided to weigh myself after 4 weeks and 8 fast days. I was a little disappointed as I had only lost 1kg BUT i have lost cm in the hips and waist area. When I was doing weight watches, loosing cm’s in specific areas was also seen as a loss, so perhaps it isnt too bad. I am also not super mindful about what I eat on non fast days , and I am sure I definitly over eat. My aim is to try harder not eat when I am actually not hungry. I am a bit of a nibbler.

Thanks for all the tips, receipes and laughs everyone .I was not a good learner driver Neil – my dad eventually just got me lessons -better for his nerves . Its not easy to teach your own child. I am a locum primary school teacher and during Covid my daughter started grade 1 . I had to teach her …. shoooowee the fights we had, and yet I can quite easliy teach other peoples children without arguments. LOL.

Have a super duper week everyone.

    Day 31, Germany, NFD

What a mess, my weight is up 1.9 kg this month.

@molij Well done, what a success! I hope your husband will get a negative test result so you both can enjoy having your family near you. The birthday brunch was boring, too much talk about politics for a birthday party.

@merryapple How lovely you stayed in Rotterdam and your husband had an exposition there. I know the street and the gallery but haven’t been there lately. Yes, people can be famous for what they did in one century and despised in another one. Thank you for guiding us through this month, you were great!

    Have a nice day everyone!

  • FLY in JULY🧨 2024

    Day 31 15.20 Wed NZ NFD 🏃‍♀️71.0kg

I ended up being 600gm down which is 1.3lbs. That’s 1 & 1/3 blocks of butter per volume!!
I’m hoping that’s off my internal organs because there’s no noticeable external change!!

@jaifaim I get it now!! Thank you!! I think we can easily manage a month of being pretty much on auto pilot if you set up the introductory challenge. Then it takes the pressure off you esp if you’re busy.
Well done on your low maintenance number!! I imagine your trips to France need more leeway due to delicious French cuisine😁
Maunga is the Māori word for mountain. It also takes on a spiritual significance if it’s you’re ‘home’ mountain. Ours is Maungawhau – mountain of the Whau tree, an NZ native that has incredibly light wood (like Balsa) despite it’s big green leaves. It was used to make fishing floats, buoys and rafts. Aka Mount Eden.
@molij That’s a wonderful result and a bonus for having to be ill!! As @jaifaim always says “We rise by lifting others” and we will all bask the glow of your successful month!!!
I’m half way through my next spinning project with the silver Gotland wool. I’ve got quite a lot of homespun wool to knit up for people and for various projects but I quite like just spinning too!!
@stitchincarol Jerky or biltong is not something NZers particularly eat unless you belong to the 🇿🇦 community or are a West Highland dog (mmm chewy, meaty…) Keep enjoying your holiday in the gorgeous hot weather!! I’ll be imagining you holding on to a cocktail with a fruity umbrella garnish while lounging around on a blowup yellow duckling or a pink flamingo floating in the middle of the pool🤣
@snowflake56 I think glutamate is not really used here now. That sounds like an awful reaction…
We spent a very happy month living in Rotterdam when Billy had a big exhibition at the Witte de Wit Center for Contemporary Art. They have changed the institute’s name now because WdeW (Trans Whitey the White!!) was a pirate-like character on the high seas. History is being sanitized…
@bert1802 Well done on pulling everything together. You have had a big month!! I hope the scales bear fruit for you too!!
@ccco You have had an extraordinary month… I’m so impressed with your positivity. You so deserve a big happy birthday party next month!!
@northgeorgia Are endlers inbred sterile guppies??!! I just had to ask!!! Well done you for managing to turn your eating habits around. It feels like from afar you are definitely getting back in control!!
@brightonbelle Enjoy your Yorkshire train trip. It’s making me think of all those great Yorkshire classic recipes!! I love the train because I knit and look out the window!! But it sounds like you’ll be making plans for Atomic August!!!
@metatauta I hope the month has finished well for you too despite that bout of food poisoning…
@excelsior12309 I’m hoping you might have snuck down a pound in the last couple of days!!
@funshipfreddie Oooh Enjoy your holiday!! A 3kg maintenance zone doesn’t sound that much but if you translate it into 6.6lbs there’s definitely more wiggle room!! And I hope your CD works out!!

I’m hoping our semi-absent friends @at, @flourbaby and @leoniraats are going to join us for Atomic August along with welcoming anyone fresh and new!!

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

Morning all, weigh in this morning back down 1 kilo.

Cali, I hope you stay safe from the fire. I hear there are some NZ firefighters flying in to Canada to help fight the bush fires over there. Glad you managed to shake that post fast gain. Hopefully you can continue now you’ve worked out what the issue was.

Thin, I hope you have a good day with your DD. My brother spent a while in Yorkshire when he was doing his OE. He based himself in Leeds and worked in an office there to fund his European exploration.

Cinque, we eat our freezer every fortnight. Because I get paid fortnightly, we usually have a full fridge on pay week, then empty it over the next 2 weeks. I do go to the local farmer’s market every week, and seasonal veggies are cheap at the moment. You can get cabbages, cauli, broccoli, swedes, leeks, pumpkin, celery, carrots, beetroot, brussels sprouts, etc. pretty cheap. Meat is up and down in price, but still a lot more expensive than it was 5 years or so ago.

I gave my boy his first lesson in the weekend. It was pretty rough, he didn’t pick it up as quickly as I did when I was his age, so he’s taken after his mother in that respect. Hopefully he’ll improve in the next few weeks before he gets his professional lessons.

    Have a great one everyone.

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

Cinque, I think of grits as polenta with more texture and less flavor of their own. I can taste a little more corn in polenta. Both need to have other foods or seasonings added or be eaten with other foods.
We’re getting a little break on the weather, at least for a few days. Cooler nights for now but supposed to go up again as the week goes on. I hope you’re getting some sun and warmth. They have 14% containment on that one big fire that’s not too far from here. But it’s continuing to grow larger. Yes, poor world! It seems to be getting hotter everywhere.

Thin, yay for the pub night with DD. I hope all of you had a wonderful time. How does DD get to your boat? Public transportation, or does she have a car? Is public transportation pretty good there? It’s dismal here other than for a few large cities.

Well, I hung on to that weight gain for about 4 days, until this morning. I’m finally back on track. I figured it must have been eating late at night on non FD’s instead of stopping around 8pm or so. I wasn’t really eating big quantities. I think it may have been the salt in things like those little snack crackers. Too late at night to get rid of it before morning weigh in.

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

30° here today! Yesterday was hot too, a short walk with Xena both days, yesterday we saw younger son, & then went to see another cottage – it was lovely but we decided realistically we don’t want to be quite that far away from mum, I’m not supposed to look any more 😂 managed a liquid FD yesterday. Today we went to see an old work colleague of hubby’s – it must be nearly 40 years since they were crewed together in the ambulance service but they’ve kept in touch, she’s 86 now but looks amazing! Had a good catch up & went out for lunch. It was a rough old Essex pub, but the food was fine & cheap! Xena stayed cool at home- she does seem quite stressed when she’s been to doggy day care, so we think she’s probably better off at home …

    Afternoon All..
A walk with Charlie then dropped him off for day boarding…
He seems very settled, she was pleased how he fitted in, settled in the kennel ok. She said he doesn’t have to come again until his holidays unless I want him too.. he seemed to have 4 x 15 mins play through the day but hard play with other dogs, he’s shattered.

I have cut my grass. Hoovered and dusted and cleaned the inside of my windows.. sat outside in the shade and read…popped to garden centre cafe before I collected him.. all in all a good day.

    Dave…
Charlie loves the park but he scavenges the bins at times… glad she is starting to make friends.

    Hemmy..
I was out this morning at 6.30 it was so beautiful.. good idea sponging him down, sometimes I give him a gentle spray with the hosepipe…

    Jean x

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

Hemmy I had Kung Pau chicken and some thin slices of potato and did them in the air fryer.I shared it with my son. Just made Denise sausage, bacon egg and beans plus fried bread. Wish I could have fried bread🤤. Got the fan on and Chloe climbed up on my knee so it went on her as well😁. Might give her a shower tomorrow to cool her down.

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

    Good afternoon everyone. xxxx

It s a hot one again today… I am enjoying the early morning walks ..not sure if I would fancy it in winter though.

Its hot for the dogs .. I sponge Pip down with cold water quiet a few times a day… he likes that .. trouble is he still wants to play like a puppy..I keep telling him he is 13 an old man for a springer. lol

Dave .. I cant think what to have this evening either .. did you get something you fancied from Sainsburys.

Sym… How did it go with Charlie at the day boarding.

H H …. Nana… Steve.. how is it going for you this very hot weather…

Enjoy your afternoon everyone …… “Be the reason someone smiles today.”. Xxxx

  • Atomic August 🟢🔵🟡

    USA. Day 0

Thank you, jaifaim, for taking over the month of August. I love the name you chose, Atomic August!

NorthGeorgia, this is my birthday month, too, but I don’t want to lose any of my gains. That’s my birthday present to myself!

    See you all in August!

  • FLY in JULY🧨 2024

Day 30 North Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 NFD

Had the shock of my life when I got on the scales this morning. I was 166lb on the 1st July and this morning I was 156lb. So glad I decided to join this forum again and thank you so much for all of your support and @merryapple for hosting. I am not expecting to lose as much next month as I know the weight loss will slow down but I am feeling inspired. Mega inspired to continue. I have totally recovered from the COVID. My husband is slowly getting better too. I am hoping that he will test negative by the weekend as my youngest daughter, granddaughter, partner and his whole family are having a holiday close to where we live. I am hoping to see them every day.

@stitchincarol enjoy the museum and the pool. I can’t remember the last time I sat by a pool when hot. I thought your NFD food choices were good but lacking in fibre. Fibre is so good as it fills you up and it is so good for you. I agree that when eating out it is very difficult to get high fibre meals. I would have been like you with the wine on holiday though.

@northgeorgia I would struggle to say no to cake too. 😂

@jaifaim thank you for hosting the August challenge. I will definitely be there.

@brightonbelle enjoy your trip to Yorkshire.

@merryapple enjoy your spinning class. My sister in law spins. She loves it.

@snowflake56 hope you enjoy your birthday brunch,

@northgeorgia I have never heard of an endler I have heard of all the other things that you have out in your tanks.

@funshipfreddie hope you manage a control day today with all your dates today.

Wishing everyone a lovely day today and a successful last day tomorrow.

Stay strong 💪 together we can do it

  • FLY in JULY🧨 2024

    Day 30 St. Louis

We went to two different music publishers yesterday after coffee and I spent over three hours looking at and choosing organ music, SO much fun for me, and DH was gracious about it all. That meant it was nearly four o’clock by the time we went to our planned restaurant, turning the day into OMAD for me–and I couldn’t even eat half my hamburger. I nonetheless feel as if I’m steadily gaining…? Oh well, I’ll see what the scales say after vacation, and save worry for then.

Today is a museum day and time by the pool as it’s going to be hot, hot, hot.

@funshipfreddie Yeah, veggies are woefully absent from most restaurant meals unless you’re ordering a salad. How do you purposefully get veggies; do you order salads regularly? As to the jerky, it was actually pork, tender and tasty, and a definite vacation treat, as I generally don’t buy it.

Thanks, @jaifaim, for setting up August!

    Have a grand one, everyone.

  • Atomic August 🟢🔵🟡

Thanks you for hosting @jaifaim. I will be joining you.

  • FLY in JULY🧨 2024

    Day 30 – USA/GA – NFD

The salad day was pretty good at work, but someone brought CAKE! We could not say no LOL

A light supper did me for the evening; probably gained half a pound or so. There’s a working lunch today at a meeting I’m going to…usually a sandwich, so that’s alright. I might make tomorrow my FD, and if it falls through, I have Thursday in reserve.

  • FLY in JULY🧨 2024

  • Atomic August 🟢🔵🟡

    Day 0 – USA/GA

Although this is my birthday month, I am looking forward to losing more weight in August, and hopefully get firmly back into the 220s

  • Atomic August 🟢🔵🟡

Welcome to the August challenge – I am taking over from @merryapple who guided us so well through July.

Know that we ALL have good and bad times … but tiny efforts can make huge changes in the long run ⭐️ So I’ve called this month’s challenge “Atomic August”.

I’m currently having to work so hard to apply myself so happy to host again. I may not be able to post each day this month but am committed to make it a good one.

See you all on Thursday and hopefully we see some
old friends back to join in 🙏

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

Good morning another lovely day, took Chloe to the park, she likes going there as a good sniff everywhere 😁. Don’t know what to have for tea tonight, maybe I’ll see something in Sainsbury’s.Booked my car in for a service next Thursday. So I will drop it off then go bowling, I’ll get a lift off my mate.

  • FLY in JULY🧨 2024

    Day 30 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – CD – sort of

So much for best-laid plans. I’ve now got a lunch date AND dinner at a neighbours tonight. I think I can still pull off a CD though.

@stitchincarol – not a bad quantity of food for a NFD. But the quality – not so great. Some fruit & veg, I think? For the fibre, at least 🤔 South Africans are mad for beef jerky, but they call it ‘biltong’ here. Or ‘droëwors’ for the dried sausage. I can eat it – it’s a good carb-free snack – but it’s not something I ever think of buying.

@bert1802 – good job for the successful FD! 👏

    @merryapple – you’re a busy bee! 😅 71.2?! 🎯 I think @jaifaim is referring to setting up the August challenge – thank you @jaifaim – & thanks @merryapple for the August spreadsheet 🙏

I’ve got a hectic Thursday, including having to incarcerate Boo Boo at the cattery. Which I think I find more traumatic than she does. And then I’m away for a few days from Friday.

“The desire to fly is an idea handed down to us by our ancestors who, in their gruelling travels across trackless lands in prehistoric times, looked enviously on the birds soaring freely through space, at full speed, above all obstacles, on the infinite highway of the air.” ~ Wilbur Wright
