    Day 11 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD 70.6 kg

I remembered just in time yesterday that I had a dental appointment, hence my very abrupt post. Nothing like a dentist visit to kill your appetite, so it was a very easy FD. I treated myself to a small cappuccino after surviving the dentist chair, & then as I had no power AGAIN last night, I had an apple, 4 seed crackers with a little cheese & a small avocado.

So yes, the power went kaput at noon yesterday. And 20 hours later we’re still waiting for it to come back on. All the same suburbs that had no power for several days recently. We got a message after 8 pm last night, telling us the problem still hadn’t been located, but it was too dark/unsafe for the technicians to continue working?! Poor dears. Needless to say – people are spitting feathers 🤯 Although, some of the remarks on one of the group chats are hilarious. A sense of humour always helps in situations like this. I just got another message; the problem has been found & is being repaired. Yay! Til next time..

    @jaifaim – belated birthday greetings! 🥳️🎉🎊 🥂

@brightonbelle – welcome back! No weight gain – very impressive! 🎯

@flourbaby – the pot’s in the post – NOT! 😜 But it’s really not that difficult. It just takes time. And oodles of patience. Even if you don’t have any classes near you, but can at least get the supplies from a store or online, I bet you could do it yourself. Lots of mosaic tutorials & ideas on YouTube.

@merryapple – the pot’s got 4 sides. And a drainage hole, luckily. I hope one’s enough though. 4 more weeks, eish?! Must be frustrating, but worth it if it means you can get your hand back as good as new. Hope you’re having an easy Friday FD 💪

    Happy Fri-yay y’all! 🍹

Day 11 Friday afternoon FD 69.9kg

News of my day is that I’ve had the sutures out (2 1/2″ incision) and now have a small black splint with hot pink velcro straps which splints and immobilises my 3&4th fingers… Tomorrow I start 2hrly exercises to lengthen the tendon so my wee finger will straighten and not curl over like now. Have to hold and not move the knuckle/finger joint… for 4 weeks… Geez… In a week I see the hand Physio.
The registrar predicts that textiles will be good exercise in the future…

@brightonbelle Welcome back and congrats on flat lining!!
@stitchincarol Hope you feel better soon
    @iona72 DTF? something free?
@michelinme You always sound so organised! You’re an inspiration!!
@missybear I hope you might post some pictures of the mill when you get there. Sound intriguing!!
@excelsior12309 How are the outside cats? And the goldfish?
Front slab plus bandage wasn’t toooo grubby because I couldn’t use any of my fingers… It’s amazing how much they have stiffened in 2 1/2 weeks… can’t wait to get knitting!!
@flourbaby Nothing better to do than spend hrs typing!! You need help. Is your boss nice or are you the boss?!
@northgeorgia Hope your weekend is relaxed for you…

    Be a Weekend Warrior everyone!!!

  • Welcome to Outstanding October Challenge!

Day 10 NE England IF 16:8

Happy Birthday @jaifaim hope you had fun.

I succumbed to a small beer this evening so no longer DTF, I’m taking a positive from the fact it was only one which would not have been the case in a previous life!

It’s been cold today with a northerly wind but plenty of sunshine so got out and about, been running around fields chasing a toddler! Tired now so off to bed, chat more tomorrow.

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

    Evening!
Jean- glad today wasn’t so bad, as you say, it’s every day you miss him 🤗
Hemmy- nice to have a treat after the hygienist! I think I’m going to sign up with a dentist & pay monthly, you get the hygienist included then, I have to see the dentist to get checked up before I see her anyway! Sympathise with the traffic too!
Dave- frustrating & upsetting for you seeing Denise with so much pain & she won’t go back to the doctor’s…
Hubby’s shoulder & neck is really bad, he’s been back to the osteopath & seen the doctor today, going to try & get a referral for an MRI to see what’s causing it. The conference was good today, some interesting workshops. I resisted all the food- wasn’t that appetising anyway, lots of beige! Youngest son said he thought the interview was okay, loads being interviewed though so won’t hear for a couple of weeks…

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

    Evening All..
I have had a nice day with Louise and Sheila. I have felt ok today, I think of him every day so it wasn’t so different for me. They seemed to be more upset. Sheila brought a photo album from when Steve was born to about 12 so that was nice.
Charlie went absolutely barmy when they arrived.

    No fasting today.

    Hedgehog..
I was a mess when I met Steve he made me strong again..give me back my confidence.
So sad with your mum getting so upset about things.. hope your conference goes well tomorrow.

    Hemmy..
The prices are high at the dentist, I pay monthly and that’s creeping up. Cafe sounded nice a nice treat. How’s Mr Pip these days?

    Dave..
Denise sounds in a bad way she’s naughty not going to the doctor.

I think Chloe and I are joined at the hip.She is always by my side, on the sofa now and no doubt in bed tonight. She sleeps over 20 hours a day and does next to nothing when she’s awake. A real lazybones. Football on telly tonight England v Greece so that’s a chunk of the evening taken care of.

  • Welcome to Outstanding October Challenge!

    Day 10 FD

Not quite enough sleep yet but beginning to feel better today. I still have burning pain in stomach and intestines but gradually lessening. I wonder what I ate that my body disliked so much? I hope I don’t do that again!

Today feeling far less puffy and more normal, back to enjoying feeling a little slimmer and clothes getting past fitting better and towards baggy. This is an EXCELLENT place to be – and I’m going to enjoy it @stitchincarol even tho it’s a a long way from where I’m heading. I’ve drunk gallons of fizzy water, electrolytes and marmite tea to get me through to this evening via a mammoth attempt to begin to catch up with my email backlog. Sadly a LONG way to go yet and not even got any Actual Work done today! Huge empathy @flourbaby

On the bright side I got my old laptop to the lovely techie down the road – it’s my beloved ThinkPad that broke last summer and has languished on a shelf awaiting attention. It’s going to be serviced, have windows reinstalled, upgraded RAM and new battery and back with me next week, then I can finally stop using my backup HP as my only computer! Also some admin done for my mother’s estate, which is taking a Long Time. Covid and flu jabs were okay thanks @merryapple – that’s three things off my long Home Admin & Health list! And had a long chat with DD. No wonder I’ve not got much work done today 😀

The flat is filled with the scent of spicy beetroot and sweetpotato roasting in the oven, soon to jump into the aromatics/lentils/ginger/garlic/chilli/tomato/onion combo which is bubbling away on the stove, before being topped off with some spinach for greenness and baby peas for a sweet pop – and my new dahl is done! That just leaves cabbage, cauliflower, pak choi and avocados to weave into the next few days and a plum/pear/melon/apple mound to work through and last week’s veg box is done – easy!

I’m trying not to get overwhelmed by the mountain of things that I’m behind with, but will be switching off after my 6.30pm zoom meeting…. sleep is almost irresistable at the moment. Onwards!

@jaifaim Happy Birthday!! I hope you’ve had an excellent day 🙂

    Good afternoon everyone. Xxx

Its a lovely sunny dry day here a nice change after all the rain. .

After walking went to Bicester .. as it was dental Hygienist today. Traffic is awful all around .. road works and accidents .. So many at the moment and these vehicles getting too big for our roads. ..

Its now £65 for hygienist .. so I asked to book me in 8 months not 6 . I wouldn’t mind but she only cleans them an gives you a couple of little brushes.. 20 minutes at the most. Work the dentist always did years ago.

A bit naughty but stopped at the bakery cafe ..and had a lovely coffee with marshmallows on top and a big iced fresh cream bun.
It was Mum and I`s stop after Friday shopping for her.

    How is everyone today.. Xx

Nana … ..Enjoy your away days.

Dave.. You are a busy bee looking after Denise.. Hope she feels better soon.

H H … Oh I hope Mum settles down again soon.. I expect its hard to know what todo or say for the best.

Sym..I hope today is not too sad for you .. its hard I know any ammount of years and
it doesnt seem to make it any better .. Thinking of you Xx

Enjoy your afternoon everyone.. Happiness starts and ends with how “WE” think. Xxxx

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

Good afternoon everyone, sorted my EE account out. Made breakfast and lunch for Denise, She’s still hobbling around the house and can’t get up the stairs to go to bed. It’s a dull day today and getting colder. The new electric throw might get an airing tonight, see how it goes. Denise wants sausage and mash tonight I’ll have egg and bacon.

Day 10 – Rural Nebraska, USA – WFD

I joined @purplegranny in her complaint so my weight is way down this morning, which makes me question if my body will be okay with a WF, but we’ll see how it goes. Thankfully, one pill of anti-diarheal medicine has made me feel fine, so my fingers are crossed that I continue to feel fine.

And that’s all the chatter I can do, and I haven’t even had time to read the messages, but I need to race out the door.

    Later, ‘gators!

    Day 10 – USA/GA – NFD

Weigh-in: 239 lbs. One more day of antibiotics, a little weekend recovery, and back to FDs! @jaifaim Happy Birthday! Just staying accountable here, knowing this is a temporary pause — someone at work was sniffling for a few days, and she looked really ill yesterday. I asked if she wanted to go home. At first, she said no (she’s a relatively new employee), but later asked the location of the urgent care where I went. It’s good she went — she had strep and COVID! Hope she can rest and recover today through the weekend.

    Day 10-No. VA USA-FD800
Hello to all today. Happy birthday, @jaifaim!
@stichincarol, you are correct, I think, in celebrating the small victories on the journey, not letting the goal rob you of a sense of enjoyment.
@brightonbelle, I hope Sicily was as lovely as I imagine it to be. @merryapple, I hope you get a new cast! They get awfully grungy looking after awhile. And I agree that taking blood pressure is an art and a science an I rarely encounter people doing it the proper way. @flourbaby, you will put your head down and power through the ridiculous pile of work, I am sure…I hope you get some time to enjoy your new house!
    Down we go, all!

    Day 10 Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 FD

The mill trip planned for yesterday was postponed until Friday so I went to town and successfully bought some stationery and toiletries items, nothing very exciting but essential stuff…..your day sounded much more fun @ccco

@brightonbelle however did you manage to maintain your weight in Sicily? Well done!

@merry🍎 I haven’t been to the mill before but I know it makes Welsh rugs. Hope all goes well with the review of your hand.

@stitchincarol you’re absolutely right, we should celebrate our small successes on the way to our goal and be happy with ourselves in the present 🙂

Sooo busy at work, the ‘to do’ pile is NOT getting any smaller!😡😩😩

@molij, I’m sure you’ll be fine, but I’ve got everything crossed for you!🤞🏽 Here’s wishing you a safe op & speedy recovery!!🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 Rest, Recover, Recuperate and Re-join us for November!!🤗🤗

Happy B’day @jaifaim, glad to see you’re back and you’ll be glad to see the back of those extra lbs tout de suite!!!

@funshipfreddie, did I mention I want THAT plant pot??? I re-potted my herbs last weekend, my very plain terracotta pot is looking quite sad now!!😁

Welcome back, but I’m too jealous to ask about your Sicily trip @brightonbelle!!! I’m sick of the wet wintery weather already ……………. And it’s only October!!!😥😥

I hope ‘Milton’ has swerved our Floridian friends!!🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

@merryapple, I hope the Dr. has some good news for you, although your lengthy post shows you’ve become a proficient ‘lefty’!!😁😁

Stay strong folks, we can & we will!!!💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼

    Day 10 NZ

Should be a FD but two friends came over with a range of specialty jammy, custardy doughnuts…
OOh take care @michelinme I hope your early night helped you to feel better. And your vaccinations don’t hurt😊
@iona72 Congrats on your 10% loss! Has this helped improve your pre diabetic nos?
@ccco What fun!! Do you dress up too for the event? How’s your hairstyle coming along?
@stitchincarol I agree with you. I believe a positive approach leads to change, however a negative one leads to falling off the wagon into the mud… same sentiment different words… By the way great to hear about your success!!
@northgeorgia I think you are amazing the way you keep in touch and keep posting even when you are having hard time turning things around. You will get there ’cause you have succeeded before!!
@excelsior12309 Has leading the pack helped with your RESOLVE?! I hope so!!
    @bert1802 Hope you’re OK there in Florida…
@jaifaim Welcome back! That’s why we’re here after having way toooo much fun!!🤣
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I have a lovely Stephanie Alexander (Ozzie) GF choc almond cake recipe if someone will volounteer to make it for you!!
@missybear Did you manage to make it off the sofa!! I’d be going to the mill regardless of the weather!!! Is that one that makes those beautiful Welsh blankets?
@davinac That’s what I did too – donated my too loose clothing so there is no going back!! It was so nice to empty the wardrobe of all the size variations I was storing!!
@molij Thank you for letting us know how you are. We miss you and look forward to having you back in the fold posting when you’re ready in November unless you decide to wave at us before then!! In the meantime all the best for your op. I’ll be thinking of you from afar a day ahead of your schedule!!
@purplegranny You might just have had a viral bug if you’re feeling so washed out… We seem to be sharing them around more efficiently with all the travel that goes on… Your kidneys deal with the excess water intake. Anyway I hope you are bouncing back🙂
@funshipfreddie How many sides does the big PO have?!! It’s looking great!! Have you got a drainage hole at the bottom so your future plant won’t become waterlogged?!
I read the BP article… think half the problem now is nobody takes a BP any longer. They slap on a cuff and the equipment spits out the numbers. No such thing as the art of feeling/listening to pulse pressure and being able to judge a pulse rate without counting with a watch… Don’t I sound old skool!!
@louloudi It does take a wee while to find your rythm and sort out what works best for you… please don’t despair and stay with us – you’ll get it together by keeping on trying😊
@penz I’m sure you’re having fun!! Hope the dogs cwent with you. They might want to stay in the countryside and get a job at a cattle farm😄
@flourbaby I hope you’re through your overloaded work patch by now…
@at You must be busy or on holiday perhaps…

I’m off to see the Dr tomorrow… and get a plan for the next 6 weeks… Hopefully they’ll change my cast. My hand looks like Shari Lewis’ Lambchop… I might draw a couple of eyes on for the Drs. Mind you the surgeon is German and the Registrar and HO are too young to recall them…

Looooong awayday today. Sadly the only lunch option was gf pasta with mozzarella and fresh tomatoes, my first full on carb in 6 weeks. Now feeling very puffy indeed!

Yesterday FD didn’t happen. My stomach pain got worse, had rice and apple sauce then a v early night. Felt well enough to go today but ready for bed again now!

Looking forward to a FD tomorrow alongside my covid and flu vaccinations 😁

  • Welcome to Outstanding October Challenge!

    Day 9 – NE England – DTF

Thinking of everyone in Florida this evening as Milton edges closer, scary times.

I had my official weigh in this morning, I’ve lost 15 pounds since starting the Pre-Diabetic programme in late June. I’m happy with that as on my own scales I was up a couple of pounds last weekend. I need to get one more pound off then I will have lost 10% of my starting weight, which they see as an initial goal. Personally I think I would like to lose another 7 pounds and reassess from there.

@stitchincarol I agree you should be ecstatic!!

@purplegranny well done on your loss, keep going!

@missybear wet here today, you have inspired me to pick up my knitting, same sweater been on the needles far too long!

Feeling for all those suffering from work related stress- Take it easy and find some me time. I absolutely love my retired life.

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

    Evening!
Jean- hugs for you…you have coped amazingly well I think, you’ve been so strong, I’m sure Steve would be very proud of you…I hope you can share some happy memories tomorrow as well as tears🤗 Baby Amelia is fine thankfully!
Dave- good you could go bowling after all. Poor Denise, sounds like she might need to go back to the GP & get some tests done on her back, maybe physiotherapy? I’ve talked to hubby about taking stronger painkillers but he doesn’t want to take tablets, says they might have side effects 😬
Hemmy- hope you’ve had a good day?
Nana- hope your holiday is going well!
Eldest didn’t have long when he called in- he wasn’t impressed that he’d waited so long at the hospital, he’s not been before, didn’t realise that’s standard 😂 Got quite a few jobs done, popped to see mum- difficult with her at the moment, she’s getting really stressed about wanting to clear things out ‘to save us doing it when she’s gone’, but she’s giving everything to us to get rid of anyway! & because she’s not managing to clear stuff out & cope with every day stuff as well, we’re having to help her with all that too, it’s so sad seeing her getting worked up like this 😢
Didn’t need lunch today & left some dinner, felt full which is not like me! Got a conference tomorrow, but there will be lots of food there, probably all carby stuff, so will have to see how I manage, if I can be strong!

  • Welcome to Outstanding October Challenge!

    USA. Day 9. FD

Fall always finds me way too busy! Ugh! Being busy, though, helps with my FDs. Today will be a FD but more of a very controlled day. I have a luncheon and fashion show today to raise money for the arts. While I will be careful, I will be eating!

I hope everyone is having a great day! 👍🏻

  • Welcome to Outstanding October Challenge!

Day 9 – Rural Nebraska, USA – NFD

Yesterday’s WF was tougher than they’ve been of late, but I got through it with no unexpected food, and this morning’s weight in the 157s was a lovely sight. Suppose I’ll be in the 156s after tomorrow’s WF?

I’ve spent a lot of driving time contemplating what has been the secret to me finally making progress after almost two years. I have no solid answers other than it took a deep focus on what it means to me to make a decision, and a deep dive into whether I’m actually making a decision or simply giving lip service to the thought. Having started the process, however, I’ve realized how important it is that I simply celebrate where I am now, rather than spend my time longing to be at goal weight. Why? Because I think that longing to be at goal weight makes me feel short of successful–not a failure, but certainly not fully successful–and that feeling frequently leads to horrible food/drink choices. (If you’re really contemplating what I’m writing, read that sentence again: it’s the lynch-pin of my success, I think.) What’s more, if on a random day in July, I’d suddenly shifted from 164 to 157, I’d have been ECSTATIC, right? So why not be ecstatic now, rather than focused on how far I still am from goal weight?

So, ecstasy it shall be…Oh. Wait. No, merely ecstatic, LOL!!!

(Why, since they’re the same root word, does the first word sounds so much different than the second?!?) 🤣

@davinac Your success is inspiring, and congratulations on dropping more weight! Crazy how you have far too much rain and we are so bone dry in Nebraska, and across the midwest.

@molij I’ll keep you in prayer on Monday that all goes well and exactly as planned.

@lona72 I chuckled to think that the step count you consider pathetic is probably what I would celebrate–but thoroughly understand the longing to be able to do what you love and are accustomed to! I look forward to hearing the official weight report from your weigh-in today.

@purplegranny LOL, I’m still not sure what you mean about your post on the 7th labeled as the 8th, but remember to put the actual date on all your posts; in our international community, it makes all the difference in understanding posts.

@missybear A wool mill??? Now that sounds like a perfect excursion!!! Will you buy knitting wool there, spinning wool, sewing wool, or finished products? Or nothing at all, and simply enjoy the fragrance?? 🥰

@jaifaim I’ve been wondering at your silence, and it’s lovely to hear all is well. Happy, happy birthday tomorrow!!!! 🎂🥳🎈🥂🙌

Our neighbors across the street are getting new siding put on so it’ll be a day on non-stop hammering. I’m thankful I can simply turn on my music loud enough to drown it out, but feel sorry for the gal there who works from home; her head will be pounding by tonight. But, oh, that lovely old house is going to look far better because the existing siding was in bad, bad shape.

Okay, I’m off to tidy for my housecleaner so she has surfaces to wipe clean. I’d rather take root on the sofa… 🤣😉

    Have a grand one, everyone!

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

I played for 2.5 hours, didn’t think we would play at all with the rain but it stopped. Took 2 painkillers because I’ll be aching later on. Had to put up with Chloe the last 2 nights Denise can’t make it up the stairs. Need to win the lottery and buy a bungalow.Chilli for tea tonight I’ll have to see what Denise wants, I’m the chief cook and bottle washer.

    Afternoon All…
Still pushing on, coughing well and still fatigued in an afternoon.

Walked with Natalie this morning I haven’t seen her for over a month, seeing her again tomorrow.

Louise stated yesterday she’s coming up and bringing up Steve’s sister tomorrow, so I won’t be fasting.
It’s 4 years tomorrow since I lost Steve, it’s been slow sometimes and also has passed very quick. I still miss him so much, he picked me up and made me strong again, I got my confidence back.. he would be proud of me, I know.

I don’t seem to do much before feeling very tired so sitting now.

    Hemmy..
Hope your price for your trees was fair.. Katie had some tall trees pruned it was costly…

    Hedgehog…
Wellies have arrived , seem a bit strange but walked in them this morning.. getting the balance of two pair of socks right. Very supportive around the ankles.
Hope the baby is a lot better a worry when they are tiny.

    Day 9-No. VA, USA-NFD

Hello to all. I am a bit rushed this morning so not able to post much. Words of encouragement to @louloudi: We speak of “falling off the wagon”, which is used to describe those who have started drinking alcohol again after swearing off…but here, we use it to mean when we have strayed from our intention to eat healthily. So we are constantly pulling each other back up “on the wagon.” So do not feel discouraged! We will haul you back up this month, if you want! We have all been there/
@molij, I think you will come through your “little procedure” (as my mother used to describe operations) with flying colors.
@funshipreddie, your mosaic project is so pretty. I read the article on taking blood pressure. Using the proper technique is so important. They did not address using wrist BP devices, which many people use at home, did they?
@missybear, I have taken root on my sofa. I like the image.
@jaifaim, we are always glad to hear from you.
@stichincarol, you are a knitting machine! Sounds like your get-together with your friends was delightful, and just right.
@northgeorgia, baby steps, baby steps. You will get there!

So Friday I’ll weigh 😬 (post holiday and birthday (tomorrow) weigh in).
The shock will give me a restart… I’d wager about 5-6 lbs up, 😬😳😂
I hope everyone is ok particularly our friends or their families in Florida

Weather so unpredictable from hour to hour so I’m undecided what to do today. There is an option of a visit to a wool mill that would be a good idea if it rains again, although driving in heavy rain will be dreary…..oh well I’ll mull it over while I drink coffee.
I had a controlled healthy eating NFD yesterday and plan the same for today, I do however need to put more effort into daily exercise.

@molij good to hear you have treatment scheduled, best wishes for Monday 🤗

Better move before I take root on this sofa. Onwards……..

@davinac – sounds like you’re making great progress too! 🎯

Just a quick hello to say I have been busy and sore, my inflamed esophagus is not settling. Saw my doctor today and have stronger meds and an endoscopy planned. On grandma duty tomorrow but hope to do a proper catch up on Thursday. In the meantime sending all my best wishes.

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

    Hi everyone

Just a quick check in. FD went well yesterday and I’m almost back into the 77s. How on earth we can put on so much weight in a few days but it takes weeks to lose it is just beyond me!! lol

Neil, congrats on another kg gone. Boom! Hope you’re all doing ok after all that rain. I know it takes some time to recover from it.

Thanks G’day for such a detailed and interesting response x I have heard of all those powders except for the broken cell Chorella one. I think I have seen Chorella before, it comes from greens if I remember correctly. Your smoothie sounds really yummy. All your food sounds so yummy and healthy actually. I agree with you about the “fresh” produce they sell at the supermarkets. It’s not much better here either. So disappointing after owning a fruit and vege shop for 10 years and my parents having f & v shops all my life before that. I’m disgusted at what they try and pass off as fresh sometimes.
I did keto for a while and really enjoyed the food and the weight loss that happened super quickly. I love cooking so it was fun to try all these new keto recipes. Some were flops but others were really good – I think you need to be very choosy about which sites you use.
It takes a lot of commitment to keep at it and I admire you for being able to do that.

Back to work for me. Chat soon 🙂

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

Wow Neil that’s a lot of rain, struggling to get just a drop here. And weird weather in your region too Suzy. Why can’t we all just get a little bit of everything, excluding the bad stuff ☀️🌧️

Quacka yes my 4 hour window is everyday. I have 2 meals, no snacks, no grazing. I have recently shifted to a window of 10am to 2 pm, previously I was noon to 4 pm. I made the change so I have a larger gap between my last meal and bedtime as I go to sleep around 8.30-9pm.

My daughter also only eats 2 meals a day however her 2 meals are spread further apart and she will sometimes snack in between.

    Yes I’m still keto.

Last night we had a birthday dinner to attend so my eating window was 3 to 7 pm. On Tuesdays we have weekly appointments in town, mid morning and late afternoon, so on tuesdays my window is a shorter window of noon to 3pm.

A meal for me is not always just one serve of a particular thing. For example, my first meal of the day could be 3 boiled eggs with one of my homemade keto bread rolls (they are small rolls) with mushrooms and spinach or kale from the garden. Then 20 mins later I will have a protein smoothie packed with lots of other nutritious goodies followed up with a small cup of mixed activated nuts and seeds. Then my second meal about 3 hours later could be a plate of mixed veg followed by organic yoghurt with fruit.

I’m very particular about each mealtime being protein rich, lots of good fats and fermented foods such as my homemade sauerkraut, kefir and kombucha.

I always have a smoothie every day as this is where I add what I call my ‘goodies’ which is psyllium husks, maca powder, spirulina powder, broken cell chlorella powder, organic turmeric powder and black peppercorns, egg protein powder, kefir, quark, kombucha, mct and flaxseed oil and I’ll add an avocado if I’m not having avocado in another meal of the day. Not really a smoothie as such as the avocado makes it a very thick mixture so I usually eat with a spoon rather than drinking it. I know a couple of these powders might seem weird to some of you but they are all there for a specific purpose. Fresh food choices where I live is limited to the rubbish that Coles and woolies provide so I have to get some of the essential nutrients into my diet via organic powders. I absolutely refuse to eat farmed fish or any animal protein that is not 100% organic and grass fed.

I do my one hour strength and cardio training either before my first meal or between my 2 meals. It depends on the day of the week and what I have on. But it’s always done before noon.

Oh daylight saving kicked in on the weekend, it throws my body clock out of whack big time for a week or 2 when it changes, everything feels wrong with time and I feel totally drained and out of sorts. I don’t get why daylight savings is necessary. Our body needs a constant pattern to function well and daylight savings does not contribute to that at all.

Ive prattled on enough, time for coffee. Have a great day everyone.

    @stitchincarol
Hi, no I’m not a day out – I just started a day early because I want to do 4:3 and do Monday Wednesday Friday
I hardly slept at all last night so feeling washed out today. I haven’t been hungry at all so although I haven’t fasted, I still haven’t eaten much. Interestingly, I think there are 2 possible reasons for the upset in my system- I have read that drinking too much water on a fast day can cause diarrhoea 🤷‍♀️ something to be aware of for all of us as we do try to drink plenty on fast days. The other possibility is that as I had some extra calories to use I added a bit more olive oil to my salad – not more than usual but again, following a fast it can apparently cause problems.
I should be fasting again tomorrow but I might see how I feel. If not, I’ll do Friday

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

    Evening!
Dave- yes, you do plenty of exercise with your bowling, not with Chloe though by the sound of it! I do a very easy sort of Hiit workout on YouTube, just trying to ease myself into it!
Jean- how are you feeling today? Have your new wellies come? Hope you don’t need them for a bit though!
Hemmy- shame about the weather for you, we had a wet morning but beautiful this afternoon. Hope that the quotes aren’t too expensive for the conifers…
Nana- hope you’re having a lovely break!
Had a rotten night, I was awake at 3am! Son’s friend’s baby had been taken to hospital with a febrile convulsion, it was on my mind, silly really as I only know of them! Son had been to a fire in our village & his friend had been called home…went into town & met my friend I walk with, she’s broken her ankle so not able to dog walk. A quick shopping trip on the way home, eldest son is popping in tomorrow, not sure if he’ll have time for lunch, he has a hospital appointment & then he has an interview too. Been good though foodwise, normally when I’m really tired I would crave sweet stuff but not eaten too much today at all.

    Day 8 – NE England

Rain and circumstances have prevented me getting out much today, step count is low😭 I miss my long walks.
Eating has been ok today, sandwich and fruit at lunch, then stir fry chicken and wholewheat noodles this evening. As part of the Pre Diabetes programme I have an official weigh in tomorrow – eek, I’m not worried as I can tell from my clothes I’m on the right path. I will let you know tomorrow.
@molij sending good vibes your way hope all goes well.
@louloudi sorry to hear about your stressful time, please check in regularly just to say hello, I’m sure it will help you to stay connected to your long term goals.

  • Hello Southern Hemispherites!!

Morning all. At my weigh-in this morning I was down a whole kilo, for an overall loss of 6.5 kilos over the last 11 weeks. Still rocking along around the average of 600g a week or so. I think splitting my fast into three small meals helped. I wasn’t going to bed with a big meal in my belly.

    Have a great one everyone.

  • Welcome to Outstanding October Challenge!

Just a quick check in to update you all. I am having both ovaries removed on Monday. I am ok but still worried. I have lots of friends supporting me. Once I have recovered from the operation I am hoping to be back. See you in November 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

  • Fat Busting Brits!!

Sym… Sounds like you should be resting up.. Its harder to get rid of germs in this very damp weather.

H H I think Kristy likes to get back into the country life she can rest here.. Its very full on with work events. She works lots of weekend s so its time off in the week..

Hopefully all goes well for boy on Thursday.

Dave.. Bowls and walking is good exercise.

    Day8 -Germany FD
Well the rain hasn’t stopped here for a couple of days and last night I have never known a storm like it. Sure there is some flooding after that. So this makes FD a bit hard, but went to the fitness studio this morning and keeping busy so I don’t hear my stomach rumble. Cleared out my clothes as a lot are too big YAY, but the charity shop was very pleased. Dropped another half a kilo this week, so still on target.
Enjoy the rest of the week everyone.

    Day 8 second post

@louloudi sorry to hear you’re having a stressful time. No shame here in not having a successful FD. We all struggle and that’s why we’re here to support each other. Stay in touch even if you don’t post and show up any time you like 🤗

  • Welcome to Outstanding October Challenge!

    Day 8 second post

@louloudi Nonsense. First of all, you have not let us all down and your fast is not failed; you’ve simply shown yourself to be human. Second of all, don’t think eight days of things not going to plan in October means you can’t show up again until November.

And I’m very, very sorry you’re in such extreme stress and trouble.

How about this plan: show up and post each day, if only to say good morning. Perhaps skip breakfast. Or eat breakfast and skip lunch. Or perhaps don’t skip any meals, but simply resolve to have no dessert one day. Or one meal. Make a tiny goal, and do your best to achieve it. If you do, celebrate, and we’ll celebrate with you. If you don’t achieve it, then shrug and try again another day.

Deep breaths…we’re here/hear for you and don’t want you to disappear.

  • Welcome to Outstanding October Challenge!

Day eight of a failed fast. So sorry to have let you all down, I don’t dare to show up until November. Usually I lose weight when stressed and troubled, but not now. (Maybe because this is such extreme stress and trouble) Hope to be allowed in in November, good luck to all of you!

  • Welcome to Outstanding October Challenge!

Day 8 – Rural Nebraska, USA – WFD

Had a lovely evening last night full of news and laughter with my three girlfriends. Ate more than I would have had I been fully paying attention, but we were far too busy talking and laughing for me to think through quantities when we ordered, and when the various appetizers arrived, we all simply ate with abandon as we chattered. C’est la vie, eh? Today will dispatch the bit of weight I’m up, and then some.

@merryapple I agree with you entirely about how our bodies simply fluctuate. It can be frustrating to nail down our exact weight when that changes daily, but how my body feels and what my stomach is telling me is far more relevant to the quality of life I experience each day than what the scales say, and I’m getting better and better at remembering to focus on that, and tame my massive appetite accordingly. And I wore a dress to the wedding that would NOT have looked lovely when I was still hovering around 164, so that’s clear progress.

@lona72 Your day sounds idyllic! We’re also having lovely fall weather, although yesterday only got up to 72 (22). It’ll be back in the 80s for the rest of the week until Sunday, when it will only get up to 65 (18) and the low will be only a few degrees above freezing…BRRR and ugh. Monday will be even colder, so summer will be well and truly over by then. Good news, however, is that it’ll be cool enough on Sunday to wear my new knit skirt and sweater set, LOL!

@purplegranny Oh you poor thing! I hope it went away quickly and you feel ever so much better today! Or tomorrow? I’m trying to make sense of your days…you posted last night at 10pm and just accidentally called it day 8 when it was actually day 7? Whenever it was/is, I hope you’re fine, fine, fine.

    @penz Have a fun trip!

@flourbaby You have my sympathies for how stressful your life is at the moment, and hope you can dispatch that weekend working away from you. Strength and peace to you!!!

@michelinme I learned to knit with the yarn in my LH, which made it easy when learning both knit and crochet, as the yarn is held in much the same manner for both. But when I made my first Fair Isle sweater, I made myself learn to knit holding it with my RH so I could have one in each hand. I looked RIDICULOUS at first, LOL and am far more comfortable and graceful with yarn in my RH now, but I’ll never be as at ease as I am with it in my LH. I saw a video sometime last summer where a gal held both colors in her LH and just twisted her wrist to grab the color she wanted (it was Meg Swanson, daughter of Elizabeth Zimmerman, if those names mean anything to you). It’s just amazing how such an old craft as knitting can always have knew things, including your “one handed knitting,” LOL! However it works, right?

@missybear I was just reading yesterday about the whole grehlin and leptin business, and will read that section again, because knowing what helps restrain/encourage is such important knowledge for making our 5:2 WOL easier, right? The book I’m reading is by Heather E. Carson: FAST: 10 easy steps to succeed with intermittent fasting for women over 50. (WAY too long a title, LOL) I think I must have ordered a print book because an ebook wasn’t available? Don’t remember, but I won’t make as fast a progress this way, but will eventually work my way through it. Perhaps you’ll find it helpful.

    Have a grand one, everyone!

    Day 8 Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 NFD

I think I was probably a bear in a previous life. I have just been reading about Alaska’s Katmai National Park fat bear week on the BBC website:

“Shortly after Fat Bear Week in October, as the weather gets colder, the bears will head to their dens. This period of time is often referred to as a hibernation, but brown bears don’t actually fully hibernate in winter. Instead, they enter a deep sleep known as torpor, from which they may occasionally wake and move around. During the summer months they will enter a medical state called hyperphagia, in which the hormone leptin is supressed. Without it, the body doesn’t signal to the bear’s brain that it’s eaten enough and feels full. Instead, the bear will simply continue to eat and may gain up to four pounds a day.”

My body rarely signals that I should stop eating and I have a huge appetite! That said I did manage a very decent 500kc FD yesterday, slept wonderfully well and my berries nuts and Greek yogurt brunch tasted divine. I quite fancy some salmon for dinner 🐻

Have a good day everyone 🤗

    Day 8 UK FD800

Yesterday’s FD morphed into a CD as I was tired and hungry and in need of lunch. Stomach pain kept waking me in the night and this morning I’m struggling with burning gastritis and wind… No idea what it could have been but I’ll take things very gently today esp re food/drink.

Up early this morning for electric meter change so it feels like mid afternoon already! I’ve been yawning like billy-o so definitely an early night. I’m completely uninspired for food xc maybe omelette and salad, but will do some fridge-gazing later. I guess uninspired days might be good for fasting…

@stitchincarol I love the sound of your celebration meal – right up my street!Yes, I hold the yarn in my RH, one needle in LH and other needle propped up on RH side of my lap
@flourbaby sorry work is full on atm; hope it eases
@penz hope you have a good time away
@merryapple I also googled your native wood pigeon – beautiful! UK woodpigeons also get fat and fly low. My resident three or so give me hours of entertainment each year hanging out on the elder eating buds/flowers/berries
@purplegranny thanks for adding the header! The day is simply the date where we are, so we can keep track of our international community 🙂

    Day 8 – USA/GA – NFD

Weigh-in: 240 lbs. Ugh…not the 240s again. A few more days of antibiotics. Yesterday, the pastries at work were too much for me and I surrendered. I had been maintaining with a lot of soup and salads. Still going to keep it up until I can properly fast next week.

Everyone sounds quite busy today! @flourbaby, sorry to hear of your work stress. Working on weekends is annoying, for sure, particularly when it isn’t a regular part of the job. We will pull you back up on the wagon!
@penz, enjoy your visit to NSW; I am sure you will not have much extra poundage to show for it!
@merryapple, love the image of the chunky wood-pigeon. I had to look up its image on Google. Perhaps it can be our “spirit animal” for the days we are feeling very pudgy….
@Stichincarol, your planned meal sounds like a cornucopia of autumn deliciousness. Good luck with it!
    Down we go, all.
