    @oldmovieguy – if you haven’t already, read Michael Mosley’s book “The Fast Diet” it does a great job of explaining the science of fasting. The BBC Horizon documentary “Eat, Fast and Live Longer” is available for watching on the internet for free, just google it.

    My understanding is that a few hours or so after you last eat, your hunger hormone tells your brain to ask for food. Since you are fasting, you give it none, so in an effort to get the energy needed to keep organs working, it starts burning your fat reserves.
