Hi shazia20
Welcome to the forum and 5:2, sorry to hear you are having a bit of a tough start. 🙁
There are lots of topics that discuss the challenges of fasting, so do have a good look around this forum for suggestions.
What are the aspects that you find particularly challenging? Let us know then we can give you ideas for that.
Although 1/2lb is not as much as you would have liked to lose, at least it is something. If you are around your goal weight, then you are less likely to lose as much as those with more to lose. People suggest giving 5:2 at least 6 weeks to get a good sense of how it is working for you.
I am not sure about how WW works – ie how many calories daily points would equate to relative to your TDEE. But if you are happy and don’t feel deprived sticking to daily points, then that would be fine.
Best wishes, hope the fast day is not too bad 🙂
Sassy
PS congrats with reaching goal with WW – if you can do WW, you can certainly do this 😀
Hi shazia, why are you beating yourself up?. It seems to me that you can do this with little or no problem. There are no instant fixes to losing weight. This is a lifestyle that we follow. Weight loss is a welcome plus but the inner health benefits are the main target. Fasting is achievable as you have found out. Be positive with yourself. Well done.
Good luck keep us updated.
Hi shazia, you still seem to have this attitude that this is an awesome mountain to climb when in actual fact you have done two fast days and here you are talking about relaxing for three days before your next fast. Why?. You seem to now be able to see that fasting is not the great challenge you think it is. You have proven to yourself that despite your worries two fast days have been achieved, give yourself some slack, recognise that fasting is just another day, no worries, no aggravation, no sweat. I have just come in from a night at the Sage Theatre at Gateshead having enjoyed a superb evening watching Brian Ferry perform. Tomorrow is a fast day for me. No sweat, no worries, no aggravation. It is just another day when I will gain some positives for my inner health. It is part of my way of life. Make your fast days part of your way of life, no aggravation, no worries, no sweat. You have proved to yourself it is easily achievable and we are all rooting for you.
Good Luck, keep us updated
I completely agree with Couscous on this one. You seem to be like me, it has to be all or nothing – and when it doesn’t go well for a little bit you immediately beat yourself up and think you “should’ve done better”. Well, the thing is, if you keep thinking that way it’ll never be good enough. First I was eating too much and I was mad I wasn’t eating healthy. Then I started eating healthy and I got mad I didn’t exercise enough. Then I started exercising and got mad I didn’t do as many push-ups as a few months ago.
You’ve done two fast days! If you have a TDEE of 2000 that’s 3000 calories you’ve cut from a week. That’s something to be proud of, and the next fast day you’ll cut 1500 more and be healthier and happier for it!
Hi, Shazia,
I have often realized that I spend more energy on the worrying than the actual task takes. It sounds like you’re doing really well, and just adapting to a new lifestyle. There will be days it goes great, and others, not so much.
If it takes a few adjustments here and there when I try something new, I tend to think I’ve failed, though I’d never think that of someone else – I would say they are learning and testing the waters. Sometimes we have the hardest time giving ourselves a little grace to work through the tough spots. Don’t give up – we’re cheering for you!
