  • Hi fasters!

I’m Rick from the UK, and for as long as I can remember, there’s been too much of me. 5’9″ and 16 stone (224lbs) is a bad combination. I need to lose some of that, especially as I’m likely to be going in for surgery in a few months (eek!) and the doctors are telling me they get nervous about operating on people with a BMI over 30. If I’ve run the numbers right that gives me a target weight of around 14 stone 7lbs (203lbs).

So I thought I’d give ADF a go in 2016 and see if it’s easier to stick to than plain old calorie cutting. Willpower has been the downfall of many a diet for me 🙂

    Happy New Year all!

    Rick

    Hi everyone!
I am Deanna from the US. I have started the 5:2 way of life several times but only stick with it for 2-4 wks then get lazy. While I’m doing it, I feel good and immediately start to lose wt. but need some motivation and support to stick with it. I would like to lose 15-20 lbs. I am fairly healthy but at age 53 I am getting a little stiff and sore and I’m sure a little wt loss will help. I am 5ft 8inches and weigh around 153
Any advice on staying motivated and sticking with the fast days?
    Have a great New Year’s Day!! 😊

Hi Rick and Deanna, welcome here!

Rick the joy of 5:2 is that most people find it can be a sustainable part of life. It can take a little bit of adjusting to sort out days and what times and types of food to have but if you are like me, you’ll know by the end of the first day that it suits you.

Deanna the things that help me to make a lifestyle change such as this is mostly planning. Firstly to plan how long to give it a go, and then to make it a priority for your life for that time.
Then plan what needs to be done to make it work.
I plan what I will eat on fast days and make sure I have it all ready so it is really easy on the day.
I also make strategies for the tricky times, like if I am meeting people on a fast day, or what to do when hunger pangs get bad.
If it’s worth doing, it is worth doing well!
    Good luck!

Good to see another ADFer, Rick. I’ve done 12 weeks but I’m on a little break for Christmas with the odd fast day here and there. I’ll be back to it in a week or so to try and lose maybe another stone, after which I’ll go on to 5:2.

Stick with it and you’ll have some very pleasing results. It’s not fun but it’s certainly not difficult either.

Thanks so much Cinque, for your reply and support. Your suggestions are very helpful and gave me some good ideas as to how to get started and stick with it.
    Thanks again!
    Deanna
