I started 5:2 on 5/15/17 after returning from a trip where I met a physician and his wife on the program and raving about the multiple health benefits. I am enthusiastic as I find it very easy to eliminate food two days a week. (I only drink water on fast days.) I find the diet actually reduces my appetite on non fast days. I am not a person who craves sugar and considered by myself and others a healthy eater. I walk a minimum 4 miles two days each week and do weight training at a gym one day a week. It is shocking to me but I have not lost one single pound over these many (6+) weeks! I do not cheat. I do not eat excessively on non fast days. The only reason I have stuck with this program is that I feel so much better. I have greater mental clarity and increased energy which is fantastic. However, I REALLY would like to lose some weight. Can anyone offer advice that might help me?

Latitude, I’m the same age and height and just a few pounds less than you. I started the 5:2 on 5/10 and have lost about 9 pounds. I also work full time and travel for work. The differences are that I don’t exercise as much, mainly walking and I eat a full, or pretty close to full 500 calories on FD. I also do crave sugar so it’s something that I have to watch carefully.

The only reason I can think of that you aren’t losing is that perhaps you’re taking in too many calories on NFD. I don’t count calories on NFD, but I try to be mindful of what I’m eating on most of them. There are days when I go overboard, but they are few. Have you tried keeping a log for a few days of everything you eat?

The other thing I can think of is that it could have to do with an under active thyroid. Have you had your thyroid values checked recently?

@Latitude. Although 5:2 excludes no foods, some foods make it real hard to lose weight. You say your not losing anything. What do you weigh the day after your water fast? You must weigh less than the previous day? Unless you’ve found a way to defy the laws of physics? If that is the case then you are simply compensating on the other 5 days. I personally avoid all grain based products. No bread, pasta, pizza, cakes, biscuits etc. If its derived from a grain I don’t have it. No fruit juice!! Not healthy for you. Only whole fruits and go for your tart berry type fruit. Tart apples are OK. Eat lots of cruciferous veggies. No potatoes or sweet potatoes. Eat lots of nuts, beans, legumes. Some tuna and other lean meats. Eat (real) cheese and high fat low sugar greek style yogurt. Keep a log of what you eat. I was convinced that I was not eating anywhere near 2000 cal, so I meticulously weighed and counted everything. No surprise, I was eating 2000 cal. 2000 cal is a ridiculously small amount of food.

    Good luck with it.
