Hi everyone,
I’ve finally finished the hall and am very pleased with it π
I need to get started on the bathroom asap as it’s a great distraction from eating especially on FDs.
I’ve just had my FD dinner of Indian style veg pilau made with pearl barley, only 350 calories but very filling.
Have a good one everybody π
Morning/evening all,
Friday already, the week has flown by.
I’m fasting again today and intending to work hard on controlling my weekend eating. Last weekend was a bit tricky due to socialising a bit too much which initiated wine induced eating. Very enjoyable but not good for the weight loss schedule.
I’ve bought some belly pork for the weekend which will be slow cooked to extract most of the fast and then blasted for some crispy crackling. I’m serving it with celeriac and pear puree and greens.
I’ve got plans for the leftovers, a low calorie version of sweet and sour which I’ve made before using chicken and is very tasty and filling with some green veggies for FD dinners.
I’ve also found and Indian cookery website which has some fabulous sounding veggie recipes and I’m going to make a pumpkin curry
I need to buy the ingredient first though…..
Have a good weekend everybody π
P, that’s when hens come in handy! They are very partial to salad greens and brassica tops. They were also grateful beneficiaries of the late season cucumber glut. OK, grateful isn’t quite the word…more demanding and entitled π
Re: weekend eating. I have a couple of meals out to navigate in the next few days. Fasting will definitely be on the menu again next week!
So I’m back from doing the groceries and disappointed in the lack of choice regarding squashes. I’m hoping that once Hallowe’en is over there will be more choice. If not I’ll have to go further afield for something other than imported butternuts π€
I love leafy greens and cannot understand why some people don’t like them.
Kale crisps are good, when I was in Adelaide we made some, 10 minutes or so in the oven, a sprinkling of salt and they didn’t even get a chance to cool down before they were devoured!
They would be really nice with a pre dinner drink…β¦…
Hi everyone,
It’s cold outside, only 7Β°C but I’m nice and warm. I’ve realised how poorly the old boiler was working now I have the benefit of a new one π
I’m having a nice, relaxing Saturday. Coffee, newspapers, tennis on TV. Dinner is prepped and ready to go into the oven and as we have an extra hour tonight I’m going to stay up late reading one of my new books and catching up on recorded TV :bliss:
There might even be a πΈ or a π· involved.
Have a good one everybody π
Morning/evening all,
Or should I say hello, hello is there anybody there…β¦β¦..
It’s a cold morning. I think we went straight from summer to winter but I’m not complaining after such a long and beautiful summer.
I had a great FD yesterday, Once again, I was busy and the time flew by.
I’ve started work on the bathroom and spent yesterday cleaning and prepping. Time to get painting.
I’m fasting again today and hoping it goes as well as yesterday.
Have a good one everybody π
Hi Jo
We have done the reverse. The sun has suddenly shifted in the sky! Beautiful pre summer weather. The pool is 21 deg (haven’t swum yet) and we are eating dinner (a bbq) outside.
I spent yesterday’s fast doing an intense 1/2 house spring clean. The rest can wait until next Monday. I always think of dear Bay when I’m busy scrubbing on a fast day! π P
Yes, Amazon, still staggering from kg to kg, dratted if I know what’s going on with the weight control. Just over the busiest month of the year, still full on at work, horrible weekend with sleeping pills giving vital support for the stress. No breakfasts, minimal carbs, still the weight doesn’t recognise my efforts. Getting very depressed about the failure of 5:2.
We have put on a wintery display for Harry and Meghan – at least they should know that NZ can be sunny and fine sometimes. A good earthquake today – 6.2, but distant and deep, shook us at work for quite a while!!
My kale is going to seed, but until I can find replacements I will continue to harvest the little leaves to chop into my salads as you do, P, along with the seeding spinach. Must be time to address my summer veggies.
Forgive the grumbles, dear fellow fasters… π
Thank goodness damage and casualties were not a problem with the earthquake Barata.
I still think it is much harder to maintain over long term, than it is to lose when you are significantly overweight. Getting rid of a couple of kg when you are within your healthy weight is quite a challenge. Good luck!
My kale and spinach are all running to seed. New plantings next week, I think. P
So you got shaken a bit, Barata.
We have no news from our tenants, so assume our house is still standing.
We are trapped at home with an enormous snow wall. We went out yesterday for a few hours, and had to abandon our car and walk up the hill. Since then more snow has fallen(50cm in all) and our deck is all lumpy from the chairs, flowers, bbq which are covered in snow. Getting to the road would be difficult.
So looks like a ping pong day inside and wait for the thaw, or the snow plough.
I tried fasting yesterday but it was too cold. Today fast and soup day.
Well it’s 7C here with a cold wind and grey skies.
I’ve been busy painting and I’ve not got the heating on. I didn’t notice how cold it is until I stopped for a coffee.
I would love to be in the only need to lose a few pounds category and I’m slowly working my way towards it.
Barata,
Grumbling is allowed whenever anyone feels the need. As Purple says, it’s more difficult to lose when within normal range.
Have you tried counting calories for a week or so?
As for work stress, I gave that up a long time ago before it affected my health and wellbeing any further.
Wiwi,
We rarely see snow in London Is it usual for it to do so at this time of year where you are?
Iβve been reading years of posts from this group! I love you guys so much!! May I join this group? Iβve been fasting for 2 years, Iβve taken a few months off, twice. I canβt figure out how to fast and train for marathons. But Iβm done running that distance. I love the lifestyle. I enjoy fasting and eating. If this is a private group, I totally understand. You guys have been together for years!! So inspiring!!
Of course you are welcome, Murph. If you can put up with the grumbles, that is π .
I discovered this website after I had reached my goal, but back then there were far fewer pages to read everyone’s backstory. As P says, let us know where you are at.
Maintenance is so difficult, as I am finding. After nearly two years at goal, the struggle is ongoing.
Stay warm, Wi. Do you want us to check your house? There are a number of claims with EQC, mainly from Wellington and Christchurch, strangely. When are we going to see you back in these Shaky Isles?
My weekend wasn’t helped by the fact that the server at work was down from Thursday morning, so little work could be done at this crucial time of the year for me. Fortunately the techies had it running again on Monday, deadline day, so all time-critical work could be completed!
Morning/evening all,
It’s a cold one this morning!
B2B fasts nailed. It seems I’ll need to keep on painting until I reach goal π
I started ADF but it seems that every time I do so my social life suddenly gets busy. I’m doing what Purple was pondering over, if I’m not going out I fast. No idea how long it’ll last but I’m feeling very motivated plus there is a need for my winter clothes to be more comfy.
I have a sore and stiff back this morning, not really a surprise after all the DIY. The bathroom should be finished by this evening so I can relax for a few days, go to the gym, have a swim and maybe get a massage.
Have a good one everybody π
ππ We were supposed to go to a celebration dinner tonight. I’ve been really restrained, looking forward to it, then the host has come down with an illness, so it is off. I set to and made a lovely ham and mushroom quiche, a yummy salad and lemon pudding (I’ve got excess lemons). I’ll set the table by the pool with candles and pretend we are at a party. You cannot keep a party girl down πππ
Wow, Purple, the image of your meal is wonderful. Enjoy your party which must be about now.
Here the snow is melting, replaced by rain. Our visibility is down to a kilometre from the usual 120km. Not much a day for Halloween. Fast day again for me. Tomorrow the cemeteries will be festooned with chrysanthamens(can’t spell it) and the queues of cars endless to put te flowers there. It was actually in Italy, but on 1 November there were 3 or 4 km of cars parked around a cemetery.
Thanks Barata, I don’t think the earthquake has done any damage. Were you at work during the earthquake? Funny that you were reading Shape of water, at the same time as I was reading “The Shape of Water” by Camilleri. Our trip to Sicily last week was in part inspired by Commissario Montalbano, though we were not in that part.
When I look at the snow, I am glad we have had these warm weather breaks. Finito now.
In November we have two trips to the UK and a road trip to Italy to see the grandies.
I will be back in the Shaky Iles at the beginning of January sans OH who is still waiting for residency.
Off for our first ping pong of the day. It’s too wet to go out.
Have a good day, evening, and goodnight to my dear compat.
Hi Wi
Why are chrysanthemums put on graves on Nov 1?
I was amazed by your description of the recent deep snow. I presume that is very early? We are suddenly warming up…37 due on Friday! Sadly, unlike in Cornwall in summer, we were eaten alive by mossies tonight and ended up inside for coffee πΆ
Will you pass through here in Jan? I’d love to catch up again!!!
Fast tomorrow. P
Thank you!!
Iβm a 49 year old, newly emptynester. Iβm trying to figure that out. I live in the US. I fast Monday and Thursday. I try to stay in control on my NFD, but I like to eat. This way of eating allows me to enjoy my weekends. Iβm constantly trying to cut out sugar… I love candy. Itβs the devil. I live in Montana, so itβs the start of winter for us. I find I can fast easier, I love soup. But I was sooo freezing on Monday!!! Iβm a vegetarian. I have been for many years. My husband isnβt, I have no problem making him meat. I just cannot eat it. IβM off to my PiYl class. Im going to check in after and read what you guys all did while I was βsleepingβ. But mostly I fight for a corner of my bed, my kitties are bed hogs once it gets cold! Thank you for the warm welcome
A real burst of summer today shooting for 36 deg here in South Australia and very humid heading your way purple so brace yourself..Im getting my Thai master chef on tonight with a Thai beef salad i have some fab news regards the 3rd born he has bought his first home albeit just around the corner from us π it does remind me of the ending of ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding’ ending he moves out on the 19th of November.
Peace RT
Morning/evening all,
It’s wet here this morning and we certainly need rain.
The bathroom is done and replacing the broken tile was much easier than I thought it would be π
FD for me today and my dinner just happens to be vegan, an Indian style vegetable pilau made with pearl barley rather than rice.
I got on the scales yesterday and they said Lo. Unfortunately it was a reference to the battery π π
Have a good one everybody π
Happy November 1ST and World Vegan day… I already added a splash of milk to my coffee, I will remember that for next year. I am fasting today, I had lots of candy yesterday. Why? Because if I am not fasting I am weak. It is cold and wet here. I am freezing. So drinking coffee, and water. I am having tomato soup for lunch, and 1 pinto bean taco for dinner. I hope everyone has a great day! I look forward to the funnies tomorrow.
Welcome, Murph, Purple mentioned World Vegan Day at a time when I had already had a splash of milk in my tea too. So I have decided that tomorrow I will be vegan as it will be a fast day. Today we ate gratin de choufleur ie French style cauliflower with a little cheese, with smoked salad at lunchtime. Tonight we are have witlof (endive) salad and an omelette.
I have just been listening to John Denver singing Wild Montana skies, and I thought of you, Murph. I am in France just north of Avignon, but quite high(3200 feet), so the 50cm = 20inches of snow which fell on Monday and Tuesday are not that unexpected. But being a snowbird, I migrate to New Zealand for summer.
I don’t know why Chrysthanamums are put on graves in France, Purple. It might just be that they are easy to grow in autumn, so in abundance. Mine survived the snow on top.
I hope the spicy Thai beef salad was good RT. Yes looking forward to the funnies too.
bye
Hi Fast Trackers and Hello World (You All know Who You ARE) π
. THESE ARE REAL COMPLAINTS RECEIVED BY βTHOMAS COOK HOLIDAYSβ FROM DISSATISFIED GUESTS
1. βOn my holiday to Goa in India, I was disgusted to find that almost every restaurant served curry. I donβt like spicy food..β
2. βThey should not allow topless sunbathing on the beach. It was very distracting for my husband who just wanted to relax.β
3. βWe went on holiday to Spain and had a problem with the taxi drivers as they were all Spanish.β
4. βWe booked an excursion to a water park but no-one told us we had to bring our own swimsuits and towels. We assumed it would be included in the price.β
5. βThe beach was too sandy. We had to clean everything when we returned to our room.β
6. βWe found the sand was not like the sand in the brochure. Your brochure shows the sand as white but it was more yellow.β
7. βItβs lazy of the local shopkeepers in Puerto Vallartato close in the afternoons. I often needed to buy things during βsiestaβ time β this should be banned.β
8. βNo-one told us there would be fish in the water. The children were scared.β
9. βAlthough the brochure said that there was a fully equipped kitchen, there was no egg-slicer in the drawers.β
10. βI think it should be explained in the brochure that the local convenience store does not sell proper biscuits like custard creams or ginger nuts.β
11. βThe roads were uneven and bumpy, so we could not read the local guide book during the bus ride to the resort. Because of this, we were unaware of many things that would have made our holiday more fun.β
12. βIt took us nine hours to fly home from Jamaica to England. It took the Americans only three hours to get home. This seems unfair.β
13. βI compared the size of our one-bedroom suite to our friendsβ three-bedroom and ours was significantly smaller.β
14. βThe brochure stated: βNo hairdressers at the resort.β Weβre trainee hairdressers and we think they knew and made us wait longer for service.β
15. βWhen we were in Spain, there were too many Spanish people there. The receptionist spoke Spanish, the food was Spanish. No one told us that there would be so many foreigners.β
16. βWe had to line up outside to catch the boat and there was no air-conditioning.β
17. βIt is your duty as a tour operator to advise us of noisy or unruly guests before we travel.β
18. βI was bitten by a mosquito. The brochure did not mention mosquitoes.β
19. βMy fiancΓ©e and I requested twin-beds when we booked, but instead we were placed in a room with a king bed. We now hold you responsible and want to be re-reimbursed for the fact that I became pregnant. This would not have happened if you had put us in the room that we booked.β
BE AWARE β¦
THEY WALK AMONG US and THEY VOTE!
Have A Happy Weekend All You beautiful Losers π
Peace RT
Thanks RT π€£π€£π€£
I’ve read some of them before. I remember reading about no 8 and wondering where such people think fish live and how they could be so clueless yet manage to book and travel abroad for a holiday!
My biggest complaint regarding holidays is that they always come to an end…β¦β¦..
Murph, have you tried miso soup on cold fast days? It IS staggering how much heat we get from food, isn’t it?
Thanks for the info Amazon. I’m surprised I’d never heard of this French All Saints Day custom.
Thanks for the funnies, RT. They are a little too reminiscent of the tenants we get at our holiday rental, I’m afraid! One of the latest was a complaint that there was a spider web BEHIND the fridge! They must have pulled it out to find it!
I was desperate for some laughs this morning. I never sleep on fast nights, but last night became a nightmare. Ongoing hip pain, the temperature never dropped below 23, and, to put the icing on it, the room filled up with mossies!!! By 6 o’clock, Mr P remembered a little camping gadget that you wind up. It emits a high frequency sound, we can’t hear, warning the mossies off. I believe it says “Rack off!” ππ It worked, so we finally managed a whole hour of sleep. πππ P
These traveller tales never fail to amaze. How can folks be so dense? Spanish people in Spain?? And as you say, RT, they vote (think Brexit, T____p). Reminds me of a Yorkshireman on our Turkey tour whos wife had to prepare his meals in their room, he wasn’t going to eat ‘that foreign mook’! In his defence, this was the arrangement when he agreed to accompany her on the trip. Her sister who usually travelled with her was unable to.
Sorry to hear your nights are so disturbed and bothered, P. Not much fun for either of you! Wouldn’t it be nice to have 23 degrees during the day – 13 here yesterday, with gales and rain. Nicer today for my day off, sunshine and 16 π
I have taken to splashing cream into my morning coffee – defers the ingestion of carbs! Still have (having as I write!) milk in my tea on NFDs.
Happy Friday, all. π
Aw, thanks RT π I was in need of some light relief! Some classics there. I must admit that I consider a corkscrew and bottle opener essential equipment, but an egg slicer?!
P, while I might not be relishing the thought of winter, at least itβs not too warm to sleep and no mossies! Just a cat trying to suck the heat out of me through the duvet… Can you take anything for the hip overnight (whiskey?! π) to at least get some sleep?
I suggested alcohol, Happy, and the physio (clearly a party pooper) says it increases the blood flow and therefore the inflammation!
Checked the weather station (yes, we have a very detailed one) and our room was 25 all night. They are predicting high 30s today, so no relief tonight.
I did love summer in Cornwall last summer. Warm evenings and no mossies π
Morning/evening all,
A frosty but sunny morning here.
Purple,
You have my sympathy with the hip pain. Mine is sore at the moment but improves with more activity and exacerbated by sitting on the sofa as its dilapidated state is plating havoc with both hip and back. I am so looking forward to it being reupholstered.
I have an insect repellent block in my bedroom to keep the biters away but I might investigate your camping gadget as it sounds like a worthwhile investment.
I don’t believe I’ve ever owned an egg slicer and unless someone makes industrial quantities of sliced egg sarnies why would anyone want one.
I’ve started clearing the kitchen in preparation for steam cleaning and painting. My precious winr rack and its contents are now stowed under the dining table π
I’m on a roll π
Have a good weekend everybody π
I’ve just rushed inside, dripping wet from swimming, to avoid the mossies as it’s peak mossie time (dusk). We nomally just burn a couple of mossie coils to control them outside, but this is the first hot spell and we had a lot of rain last month. They are all hatching and certainly not fasting! Mr P is not effected by them, but they love me π
We have 2 egg slicers, Amazon. We both bought one to replace the old broken one. I love them. They remind me of mum and cut eggs perfectly.
I injured my hip, heavy duty gardening, a couple of months ago. I need to avoid stairs to allow the inflammation to settle. Walking is fine, just not stairs. It’s a killer at night. π
I made yummy prawn and lettuce rolls for lunch today. Perfect on a hot (37 deg ) day. π P
