  • Sorry to hear you’re feeling below par Jo.

Re: calorific local delicacies. It’s the supersized portions that put me off these days.

Re: crisps on the side. On the rare occasion that I have a sandwich these days, I always have crisps with it πŸ˜€ It does seem to be a bit of a British thing!

Amazon, thanks for the clarification about New Zealand β€˜flax’. Barata, apologies! I’ll have to retract my β€˜not sure you have the monopoly…’ statement. I don’t think of Phormium as a flax plant, and it’s not on my radar as I don’t like big ornamental plants and I try to pick plants for my garden that benefit wildlife…. shame NZ didn’t keep that one πŸ˜€

Another lovely day, not due to be too hot for a couple of days yet so I’ve got to tackle the jungle that is the garden..

    Have a good weekend everyone!

    Hi everyone,

    Happy,

My little garden is a mix of colour, perfume and/or plant that attract pollinators and I’ve finally got it right after many years of buying something that either grew much too large or was dwarfed and crowded out or died after one season. It is great to see so many bees etc every day.

There’s not much wildlife around here apart from large populations of vermin and foxes and a fair number of birds which is surprising as there aren’t many trees due to the gardens being so small and I’m unfortunate enough to live in the only tree free street in the borough!

I’ve just broken my fast with a homemade flatbread and guacamole which was very satisfying.

For the first time in at least a year I’ve bought a chicken from my local butcher and it is marinating in oil, lemon, garlic, tarragon and basil. I’ve made coleslaw with celeriac rather than cabbage using homemade mayonnaise and prepped some fresh peas, and what I suspect will be the last of this years broad beans and asparagus. It’ll make a very summery plate of dinner πŸ˜€

I’ve planned a week of meals around the chicken as my intention is not to waste a single scrap and I shall make stock from the bones.

I’m deliberately eating more meat at the moment as I was still having compliance problems with fasting and I looked at what is different from when I lost 2lbs every week and have tweaked my diet accordingly to see if it helps. This week has gone well but I’m interested in long term success so it’s too soon to say whether it is the best way forward.
My short episode of feeling low hasn’t helped either but such is life and I’ve no intention of giving in to such things.

Warm with sunny intervals here and the heatwave is still on schedule for next week 🌞🌞🌞🌞

Have a good one everybody 😜

    Amazon,

Well urban and suburban gardens are often much better for invertebrates, including our pollinators, than the vast swathes of sterile intensive agricultural land that passes for countryside…. My garden is very much a work in progress! Very large and of course I’ve inherited a lot of plants, some of which I don’t like/ don’t benefit pollinators, birds, bats, etc and will have to make way for more beneficial planting, but it’s a long-term project!

Funny you’re talking about the last of the broadbeans as mine are not yet at eating stage! A lot of the flowers fell without setting in the last hot spell we had so I’m not holding out much hope for the crop ☹️

I’m continuing a flexitarian diet. It suits me to eat meat little and occasional. It will be interesting to see if that is the issue for you. Meanwhile that chicken sounds deeelicious!

Amazon please set another place at your dinner table that chicken and salad extravaganza has me thinking i should be there πŸ˜‰
    Thanks in Advance
    RT

    Morning/evening all,

The chicken dinner was excellent and there are lots of leftovers to keep me satisfied and hopefully on the path of sensible eating for the next week.
The last time I ate chicken was in the garden of a hacienda in Ecuador. The chicken was reared on the farm and would have been free ranging and finding it’s own food which would have been supplemented by corn. It was cooked by the farmers wife and it was delicious served alongside vegetables all grown on the farm and bread made with their own flour.

My chicken was very bit as good πŸ˜€

Another glorious day here and feeling much hotter has the breeze has gone.

Have a good one everybody 😜

Stunning Goldilocks temperatures here in West Cornwall. Perfect for walking, viewing the sites.
About to enjoy another British tradition. ..Sunday roast in an old pub. πŸ˜ƒ

    Morning All,
Perfect day for bowls today, just a practise game, nothing serious.

Stomach still niggling but no worse. Sticking to veg soup as anything else makes pains worse. Managed to get through my very long Choir rehearsal yesterday so ready for the next concert.

Beautiful day here and I am going to chill all afternoon and evening.

Have a good week everyone, Keep well, have some fun!

ADF continues on and the health benefits of a long life in good health the rewards I am taking a month off work in July and hooking up the caravan and disappearing into the horizon with yfee of course and ‘ollie’ the hound destination unknown itinerary yet to be constructed but it is my intention to be accountable and mindful and of course swing by for a Friday funny.
    RT

We all need those funniest, RT! And we expect some holiday news too.
26 on Cornwall today and stunning. P

There will be a full moon rising shortly, and the sky is wonderfully clear. The curtains won’t be closed to keep out the cold just yet!

Enjoy your travels, RT. Interesting time of year for jaunting, but no doubt your trail lies to the north. Keep up the good work (ADF and funnies!)

Happy, I have long know of the Irish flax industry, that we were not alone in growing it, but it is a ubiquitous member of our native flora. And it has been bred into many sizes and shades, so doesn’t need to crowd out the rest of the garden πŸ™‚ No apologies, we are all learning so much about other lands and peoples.

It’s Thursday evening, so my weekend has started! But a FD, so a yummy chicken salad to end the day. I have tried black coffee and didn’t enjoy it, so have started using cream instead, and am finding this quite palatable. Cuts the rest of the carbs for the 24-hour fat-burning!

    Morning/evening all,

    I hope everyone is well.
I’ve been enjoying the glorious weather that is set to continue next week which is great as Wimbledon starts on Monday 😁

I went to the Isabella plantation in Richmond Park on Tuesday as we wanted to walk but also needed shade and peace and quiet. It ticked all the boxes and we ended our day with pizza and cider in our favourite pizza place and took advantage of the Β£10 Tuesday deal which gave us a pizza, salad and a drink. The cheapest pizza is Β£11 so it is great value. Most of the pizzas have unusual toppings and there is a good mix of omnivore, vegetarian and vegan offerings. My friend chose a vegan option but opted for regular cheese and I had one named Ali Baa Baa which had minced lamb, feta, mozzarella, cucumber and a light mint and yoghurt dressing. It was delish πŸ˜€
They have around 40 different ciders on offer so it is always fun to try something different.

It’s been overcast this morning and it felt cooler until I stepped outside into the furnace! The cloud is set to clear by noon and wall to wall sunshine restored.

Second FD of the week today with a stir fry on the menu.

Barata, I made a really nice chicken salad yesterday with a mixture of the usual raw salad veg plus some lightly steamed peas and asparagus. It was very good.
Who said chicken salad is boring???????

Have a good one everybody 😜

Hi Fast Trackers and Hello World (You All know Who You ARE) πŸ˜‰
This is repeat of mine but still LMAO
A father passing by his son’s bedroom, was astonished to see the bed was nicely made, and everything was picked up. Then, he saw an envelope, propped up prominently on the pillow. It was addressed, “Dad.” With the worst premonition, he opened the envelope and read the letter, with trembling hands…

“Dear, Dad. It is with great regret and sorrow that I’m writing you. I had to elope with my new girlfriend, because I wanted to avoid a scene with Mum and you.
I’ve been finding real passion with Stacy, and she is so nice, but I knew you would not approve of her because of her piercings, tattoos, tight motorcycle clothes, and because she is so much older than I am.
But it’s not only the passion, Dad. She’s pregnant. Stacy said that we will be very happy. She owns a trailer in the woods, and has a stack of firewood for the whole winter. We share a dream of having many more children.
Stacy has opened my eyes to the fact that marijuana doesn’t really hurt anyone. We’ll be growing it for ourselves, and trading it with the other people in the commune, for all the cocaine and ecstasy we want.
In the meantime, we’ll pray that science will find a cure for AIDS, so Stacy can get better. She sure deserves it!
Don’t worry, Dad. I’m 15, and I know how to take care of myself. Someday, I’m sure we’ll be back to visit, so you can get to know your many grandchildren.
    Love, your son, Joshua.
P.S. Dad, none of the above is true. I’m over at Jason’s house. I just wanted to remind you that there are worse things in life than the school report that’s on the kitchen table. Call when it is safe for me to come home!
Have A Happy Weekend All You beautiful Losers πŸ˜†
    Peace RT

Always good for a chuckle, RT, and it does help to put things in perspective!

Glorious winter’s day – I am waiting for wet weather (maybe Sunday) to encourage me to complete the tax returns.

    Have a great weekend, everyone.

    Good afternoon all,

Great joke RT. Sounds the the sort of joke my teenage son would have played on us. He is still causing us worries and he is approaching 30’s. Growing up seems to take forever these days but he is on track now.

Phew, it’s a scorcher of a summer now. Thank goodness for my gym membership and it’s outdoor pool, heaven!

Sorry I have been missing lately, there is so much going on which I can’t tell you about at the moment, but it’s all good thankfully.

Fasting not going well, ice cream is my current enemy. Off to buy som frozen yogurt later, although I should probably be making it. I really need to focus before my next trip β€˜down under’, can’t let the side down.

The Golf Croquet lessons hit a bad patch last week as teamed with some very, very slow learners. Patience is not one of my virtues. We learnt about stalking the Ball and practise swings and angles for β€˜running the hoop’. We were even taught to jump over a ball in line with the hoop and take the hoop (tricky). Learners took an age for their turn, infuriating. Definitely prefer bowls. I might skip this weeks lesson in favour of a dance class.

Mah Jong still going well as is Bridge. Line dancing is lots of fun too, I can now do 8 different routines mostly to Latin music.

Keep healthy everyone. Won’t be posting during Wimbledon Tennis but really looking forward to watching some matches. Be back mid July! I promise to try harder to stick to 2 fast days per week.

We have really been very fortunate this month when cruising around the river-land in SA with temperature of 22deg during the day and getting down to about 8 deg overnight. Shooting for 23 deg tomorrow i hope everyone is in a good place of mind body and soul..
    RT

    Morning/evening all,

Another glorious day here and weather set to remain good for at least another 2 weeks, which is fabulous for everyone.

I’m in great spirits this morning after watching England finally win a penalty shoot-out to reach the World Cup QFs. It was a brutal match and I hope the players are all OK this morning.
Thanks to officialdom in the UK telling English fans Russia isn’t safe, there are too many football thugs, it isn’t safe to wave an English flag and various other scaremongering stories, there aren’t too many England supporters there which is a great shame, especially in light of the fact that the Russian people have given and extraordinarily friendly welcome to football fans from across the world and English fans are reporting friendliness and camaraderie wherever they are.
I suspect there might be a few more travelling to Russia between now and Saturday.

As for Wimbledon, I’ve watched a few matches and there have already been some shocks and we’ve only just completed R1. In hot weather it is much better to be watching it on TV rather than roasting courtside unless you are lucky enough to be on a show court.

Second FD of the week today.

Have a good one everybody 😜

Hi Fast Trackers And Hello World (You All know Who You ARE) πŸ˜‰
An old piece from Jason Fung and his IDM blog still… just sharing the vibe πŸ’‘
But the one strategy that does help,
Fasting is continually belittled as a dangerous practice akin to blood letting and voodoo. The problem with most diets is that they ignore the biological principle of homeostasis – that is the ability of the body to adapt to changing environments. The body has a preferred state. If you move away from it, the body will adapt to it. For example, if you are in a dark room and suddenly go into the bright sunlight, you will momentarily be blinded. However, within moments, your body will adapt.
The same applies to weight loss. If you try to keep a constant diet, the body will adapt to it. This means that successfully dieting requires an intermittent strategy, not a constant one. This is a crucial difference.
The difference is between restricting some foods all the time (CER) and restricting all foods some of the time (IER). This is the difference between failure and success.

    Wise words RT.
Glad to hear you are enjoying your trip. We aren’t managing to fast while we travel, this time, but are trying to eat mindfully, while sampling culturally appropriate foods. I even had a small cloudy cider yesterday after a long hike through spectacular scenery. Sometimes one just has to.
    Happy days. P

Hi Fast Trackers and Hello World (You All know Who You ARE) πŸ˜‰

A married couple are out one night at a dance club. There’s a guy on the dance floor giving it large: break dancing, moon walking, back flips, the works. The wife turns to her husband and says, “See that guy? Twenty years ago he proposed to me and I turned him down.” The husband says, “Looks like he’s still celebrating.
A repeat yes but still way funny.
Dear reader I have a good funny (well in IMO) for next week but it does involve women’s breasts and men’s thought processes about them clearly not mine πŸ˜‰ so just canvassing the remaining 5 of us left πŸ˜† just to see if we feel that we all have the level of maturity and good sense of humour to cope πŸ’‘
    Keep on keeping on.

Which five are you thinking of, RT? Bring it on, we are big people (but perhaps not as big as we were πŸ™‚ )

There has been a whale in Wellington Harbour this week, delighting everyone. The Matariki fireworks over the harbour were scheduled for tomorrow night, but there is concern that they would distress the whale, and may need to be postponed. At last, we are moving from the archaic and totally inappropriate Guy Fawkes commemoration and celebrating a local celestial event, for the Maori new year!

Enjoy your weekend, all, and the tennis for you northern fans.

    RT,

I’m still around! It’s just been such a busy few weeks, very long days and not enough hours in the day… Things should return to normal in the next couple of weeks though, so my period of absence will end soon!

And yes, you can’t shock or offend me πŸ˜€

    Barata,

Great to hear you’re starting to celebrate locally appropriate events. I must admit I’m no fan of fireworks, they also are archaic to my mind! Fingers crossed the whale stays permanently πŸ˜€

Well I haven’t fasted formally for 6 weeks now. I have missed a couple of evening meals (too busy and can’t spare the time to eat..), but have been eating breakfast and lunch every day. My weight remains low, so I guess I’m temporarily in a sweet spot wrt eating habits and activity levels.

    Awesome thanks ladies…

    Morning/evening all,

Yet another glorious day in paradise, clear blue sky, sunshine and a high of 31C forecast.

RT, we all look forward to the Friday funnies whatever the content πŸ˜€

I’m still engaged in all out warfare against my self destruct gene which wants me to eat non-stop but as with everything else in my life, it’s a work in progress and will be continued until I can claim victory.

Have a good weekend everybody 😜

I believe the rule about good comedy is you must always punch up. Over to you to decide RT. πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰πŸ˜€
Still enjoying excellent travel weather. The jackets and jumpers are lying fallow in my suitcase.
As to travel eating…the standard is varying significantly, with an increase of some carbs, but we are also, like Happy, too busy to eat often.
Have a good weekend guys. P

How many hundred years since Mr Fawkes made his abortive attempt on the parliament, Happy? It certainly should not feature on the NZ calendar! When I was young we would have the neighbourhood bonfire and fireworks display on our farm, but were never allowed to put a stuffed figure on top of the fire as the next-door neighbour was named Guy!

We really don’t want a permanent whale in the harbour. He needs to get out and find a mate. πŸ™‚ But he can bring the family back. Apparently when the area was first settled the sounds of the whales in the harbour kept settlors awake at night. But they were hunted nearly to extinction(they weren’t called the ‘right whale’ for nothing, as the best for providing oil and bones to the northern lands), and are only slowly making a come-back.

Same in Australia. I was horrified when I first heard, years ago, why they were called “right” whales. It turns them from beautiful creatures to a resource for humans, doesn’t it?
When I was a little girl in the early ’50s, my dad took me to the local whaling station and put a peg on my nose. I can still remember the blood red water. The same spot is now a hub for whale watching tourism, thank goodness. P

I must share this.. I was at a health and beauty expo today (so many stands flogging products) and had a body scan – first time. Bones and fat are fine, but what was great was, I have the metabolism of a 34 year old!! Not bad for 67.

And the fireworks are deferred until next Saturday, in deference to the whale – not that they expected him to be scared, but might act erratically and disrupt boaties and kayakers. The display is held over the harbour.

Barata you must be way chuffed congratulations far out a 34yo trapped inside a 67yo amazed.!! Wow there must be something in this fasting mumbo jumbo better health markers weight lose and longevity..Nama hope you are well and goodness gracious me is that Collingwood I see sitting 2nd on the ladder….Who would of thought Enjoy..
    RT

Thanks RT, yes I am very well and of course unexpectedly delighted with the football season thus far! I hope your holiday continues to be fun. I look forward to a Monday fast to reset after weekend eating… my little grandaughter is almost two and this weekend involved her new favourite: sushi hand rolls!

I don’t think Barata is ‘trapped’ in her 67 year old body, RT..she is revelling in it! πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰

Apologies for possibly putting a dampener on your joy Barata, but I can’t work out how a body scan can determine your metabolic rate.

The only test I’m aware of is measuring oxygen input and CO2 output but it is not particularly accurate.

Can you explain how they calculated it?

@barata. Was it a DEXA scan? Are you confusing done densitometry with metabolic rate? Cant see how a DEXA scan can measure metabolic function?

I stood on a fancy set of scales, folks, and did not get to keep the results paper, so I might be completely confused as to its meaning. But 34 years was stressed to me.

It was at a busy stall (Herbalife, I think) in a crowded hall. Regardless of what the reading actually meant, I am really chuffed, RT. I have been saying for years that I am getting younger, and will take this as proof. πŸ™‚ Revelry can be held at any time, P. I put it all down to 5:2 and IF.

    Morning/evening all,

    Hi Barata,

Thanks for explaining that you stood on a set of scales rather than undergoing a scan as I spent a long time trying to work out how medical science had advanced so far since I ran a DEXA scanning service.

Herbalife (or whoever) are unfortunately being economical with the truth which is very naughty to say the least and it may be that they are trying to flog their fancy scales which (most likely) use Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis.

Having said that, you are a successful maintainer with a healthy lifestyle and you should be chuffed with yourself for being in such a position. I’m still struggling to get there!

Heatwave continues here and looks set for another couple of weeks at least.

It’s definitely salad weather and I have a fridgeful!

Have a good one everybody 😜

    Hello my Friends,
    I LOVE THIS THREADπŸ™
You know I am as not present as before but present reading the email.
The critical thinking is my favorite part here and the amount of knowledge can’t be missed.
It’s a handful of beautiful people.

We are going through an horrible 2 weeks of heat wave. Last night we just arrived from Toronto from a quick trip even there was hot

I call myself work in progress as well! This week focus on little things. Salad from our little garden should detox some fat.

    Stay well Folks 😘

Just managed to get in the thread again.
I am still on the road.
Just a quick hello. I will be a regular contributer in a week when, when my feet vare back on the ground and fasting goals re-established.
    Missing you.
    Wiwi

    Hi Wiwi,

I was wondering why you hadn’t posted lately. I hope all is well with you πŸ™‚

    Hi Wi, HCB and BigB.
Good to hear all 3 of you are still here (even if in the background).
I hope that leg of yours heals completely Wi…it has been a long time. Keep going HBC…this is a lifelong practice, not a short term fix.
Just struck the first rain in 3 weeks of travel, but it adds a beauty to the northern mountains that we love…and is desperately needed throughout the country.
    Happy days. P

    Hi Purple
My ankle is healed, but I am lacking high energy levels. Since being back in France since mid June, I have already been to Italy once, I have spent days on cleaning and decluttering this old house in France for a family visit which went very well.
Today I am driving 700km to Italy again to look after grandies, which is a pleasure, but a lot of hard driving.
We all know fasting makes for high energy levels and a sense of well-being. I have neither at present. I will be back with you all in body and spirit in a week.
    xx Wiwi

Hi Wi great to see you here and HCB nice to you pop in also
    Keep on keeping on
    RT

You will be missing your OH, Wi. Drive safely, and enjoy those mokopuna πŸ™‚

Chuffed I am about the lifestyle, Amazon, but unchuffed about the two kgs that continue to stick around, in spite of my average (but rigorous 5:2) efforts.

Hi Fast Trackers and Hello World (You All know Who You ARE) πŸ˜‰
    The Male Cycle.
When I was 13, I hoped that one day I would have a girlfriend with big tits.

When I was 16, I got a girlfriend with big tits, but there was no passion, so I decided I needed a passionate girl with zest for life.

In college I dated a passionate girl, but she was too emotional. Everything was an emergency; she was a drama queen, cried all the time and threatened suicide. So I decided I needed a girl with stability.

When I was 25, I found a very stable girl but she was boring. She was totally predictable and never got excited about anything. Life became so dull that I decided that I needed a girl with some excitement.

When I was 28, I found an exciting girl, but I couldn’t keep up with her. She rushed from one thing to another, never settling on anything. She did mad impetuous things and made me miserable as often as happy. She was great fun initially and very energetic, but directionless. So I decided to find a girl with some real ambition.

When I turned 30, I found a smart ambitious girl with her feet planted firmly on the ground, so I married her. She was so ambitious that she divorced me and took everything I owned.

I am older and wiser now, and I am simply looking for a girl with big tits.

Have A Happy Weekend All You beautiful Losers πŸ˜†
    Peace RT

Let’s hope you’re in the wrong place here, RT! πŸ™‚

You could mistake today for spring – lovely soft sunshine and wind, and I picked my first jonquil this morning. Great for my Friday off, lovely for all the children on holiday.

I’m pleased you have your OH back, Wi. Those long treks are tricky on your own. πŸ™‚

    Have a great weekend, all.

Tough life, being a bloke, RT! ☺☺
Gorgeous weather in Ireland..21, soft, very photographic, lighting. Good fish and salad available. Have a great weekend. P

    Morning/evening all,

Another lovely day here in London. After a long cold spell early in the year and snow March I was wondering if spring was ever going to arrive. It seems hard to believe that we’ve been bathed in warmth and sunshine for the past month in the best summer weather for several years. Long may it continue πŸ˜€πŸŒž

FD today with grilled marinaded halloumi on the menu.

Have a good weekend everybody 😜

    Hello,
What a beautiful day we have here today!
Keep on keeping on is what it is… didn’t give that battle yet. As if now melting what ever is stuck in my body from that last week geataway.
Yesterday I Soens the day with my best friediend who has Brest cancer. My task was clean and organize her chicken and prepare some meals mainly for her teenage son. She doesn’t have any apetite and I believe food has a metallic taste in her mouth.
Amazon our president is visiting you. I love that balloon of him 🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣
Meeting another girlfriend for lunch today πŸ₯—
I am looking forward to watch that soccer match Sunday and Croatia should win πŸ‡πŸ‡·
Thanks for the virtual friendship everyone πŸ™
    Enjoy the weekend 🌺

    Hi HCB,

Your president is most certainly not visiting me and the sooner he goes back to your welcoming arms the better πŸ˜‰

I hope you enjoy the football. IMHO France will win.

Indeed Amazon, I understand that your culinary tastes are too sophisticated for the Donald. So I think it’s just as well he’s not having tea at your house. He’d only throw his toys out…

Another lovely day here. I’m getting a bit fed up of the unrelenting good weather to be honest πŸ˜€ We haven’t had anything you could really call ‘rain’ since early May now… I dream of standing outside in the pouring rain…

No fasting for me still. Keeping busy, with a bit of stress thrown in, continues to mean that I am 2kg under my maintenance weight. I’ve got some old oranges, past eating fresh, so I might make an orange and almond cake, although I’m not sure it’s calorific enough…!

    Have a good weekend all.

    Morning/evening all,

Another sunny morning here. It rained for around 20 minutes yesterday evening but I’ll still need to water the garden.
If the weather gods could organise 8 hours of heavy overnight rain across the UK I think we’d all be much pleased.

Happy, oh to be 2kg under maintenance although I’m sure you could do without the stress which is hopefully diminishing.
Actually I’d settle for 2kg above right now….

I’m addicted to Ottolenghi’s tomato and strawberry salad which was in the Saturday supplement a couple of weeks ago. Sounds odd, tastes good πŸ™‚

Have a good one everybody 😜

Ha ha! Dancing in the rain! One of life’s joys. It is certainly not as green over here as usual, there is a desperate need for rain. Starting to look like home πŸ˜‰
You enjoy that cake Happy. Yhe rest of us will have to eat it vicariously 😐 P
