Thanks Jo.
And the mind games burn calories, as the brain uses much more than the rest of the body! !

Jo,
Your life staircase mirrors the experience of the majority of people apparently, with people generally being less happy in the middle years 40-60. According to the office for national statistics, the over 90s are happier and more satisfied with life than the middle aged!!
P and Amazon,
I hope you are feeling better…Or at least not worse!
I have avoided OH’s germs so far, and this week’s holiday does seem to have revived my flagging winter spirits. I’ve been sleeping well, not worrying about work, getting plenty of exercise, doing some knitting, reading, playing piano, and having plenty of laughs with friends and family. And I remind myself that the nights will soon be drawing out here in the northern hemisphere π
Thanks Jo and Happy.
I hope you are feeling better this morning Amazon.
We’ve had another day in the high 30s. After lunch I had a swim to cool off, then lay on the bed, under the fan, and slept like a log for nearly 3 hours. I feel so much better.
Still in the mid 20s at 9pm, so more swimming to cool the whole body.
We’ve eaten our way through more of the ham today. Ideal in this weather.
Jo, my brain is plain not up to your mental exercise at present. Hot weather is more conducive to chic lit! πππP
Morning/evening all,
If there was a frost here I missed it as I only woke up 15 minutes ago after a 12 hour sleep π²
Purple, glad you’re feeling better.
I feel better than yesterday and my chest is less sore when I cough but there is a way to go. Packing my gym bag last night was wishful thinking on my part, but the silver lining in this particular cloud means I won’t be forced into “celebrating” tomorrow evening just for the sake of it as the sound of my cough is sufficient to send everyone to the other side of the room π
Have a good one everybody π
Poor you! I’ve been working hard on keeping it in the head to avoid a chest cold.
I’ve agreed to dinner and 9pm fireworks tomorrow night…can’t see me lasting until the new year. It will come without me watching!! π
Keep warm Amazon…I’m off to bed at 28deg, inside and out! No bedclothes tonight. π³ P
Hello Fasters,
Sorry to hear two girls aren’t feeling too well! Looks like from time to time we have to have something.
I am freezing and my nose is blocked up. I can’t breathe! I am using and nose spray but it isn’t lasting also sore throat. Well… it goes away.
Wednesday we are finally flying down to Florida. It is Sasha’s first time on an airplane. I am waiting to hear from her vet if I divide my husband’s lorazepam (0,5mg) in four is okay to calm her down just in case.
Meanwhile we can’t go down like gypsies lol. We need to pay extra for checked bags there for we’ll be going down with minimum.
A sailboat raising awareness about global warming docked in Town last week. Happened that they are Swiss and last night I feed Mother, Father, a journalist, a teacher and 5 children. They live with almost nothing. Water is gold and to eat is whatever is available cooked in one pot. The children are adorable! Ranging from maybe 12 years old to a 13 month baby. They speak fluent english, german and french. The places they had been and the people they’ve met are amazing. Now they need to collect more funds for their trip. They were very appreciative with the abundance of food I prepared for them … they felt in paradise. The kids loved seeing ice cream and lot’s of fruit.

I am not in a Fasting mood!
HAPPY 2017 to all of you. Wishing you health, peace, wisdom and abundance.

Thanks for the link HBC. A wonderful story of adventure and educating! It must have been marvellous to meet them.
My own son lives a similar life with his family on the land and also happens to be a sailor, so I really connect.
Sorry to hear you also have picked up a virus…3 of us on 3 continents (or 2 continents and an island π) I hope you are feeling better before the Florida trip. All the best with taking Sasha πΆP
Hi Jo,
I saw a United Kingdom about a month ago and thought it was a wonderful production telling a very interesting true story that the majority have never heard about. I thought both David and Rosamund were brilliant and the chemistry between them was fabulous.
I’m feeling better this evening π
Yes, I remember us discussing it Amazon.
You’d seen the film…I’d seen the actors interviewed on the One Show…!
I toyed with fasting today, but ended up doing an 18/6… I’m 0.2kg above my upper maintenance limit, so not catastrophic and nothing that can’t be repaired by a proper fast or two when I’m back at work next week π
Morning/evening all,
It is several degrees warmer here this morning and rather overcast. I’m considering going out for some fresh air as I’ve got cabin fever after 3 days at home π«
Whatever you are doing for NYE whether it be partying all night, watching TV or hiding under the covers,
Have a good one everybody π
I wish you and yours a very happy and healthy 2017 ππβ¨πππΎπ
Good evening all . Won’t be long now until the bells . As we say here in Bonnie Scotland . I am one of a rare breed lol ,A non drinking Scot :). I will wait up until 12 . Jim and I will wish each other a Happy New Year . We will phone our eldest and then Ross . Then watch a wee bit of Scottish Television and Off to bed . I have been a wee bit lax with 5.2 this last week but back to normal tomorrow . 3 years now I have been maintaining so I know what to do .
We are going to have our first holiday for years around April so I need to be trim for that . Our eldest granddaughter is getting married in August and I don’t want to spoil the photographs lol.
Have a Good new Year everyone .
Wee xx
We are enjoying an interesting crosscultural evening…
Sitting on a verandah at 22deg with gentle rain, eating Christmas pudding, mango, blueberries and cream and watching the Edinburgh Tattoo on tv!!!
Great way to relax on New Year’s Day. π
We spent New Year’s Eve in a restaurant enjoying a degustation dinner overlooking the beach. The fireworks, let off on a barge on the ocean capped off a beautiful evening.
To find myself well within my goal weight still this morning was fantastic. It can be done! Live well. Eat well and not gain weight.
Have a fabulous 2017 FTs. P π
Morning/evening all,
I’ve woken up this morning feeling much better and my cough nearly gone. A good start to the year.
Fasting starts again tomorrow and I’m going to sit down today and write a menu plan for January. My intention is 23/1, no eating out before my birthday at the end of the month, and no alcohol as I’ve had far too much over the last 10 days.
I am going to peruse my new cookery book and make it a month of experimenting with new dishes and foods I’ve not tried before alongside my favourite healthy dishes.
2017 is going to be the year I finally reach goal and become a maintenance expert π
Have a good one everybody π
Happy New Year all.
It’s a chilly winter’s day here, but the sun is shining (something which hasn’t happened much recently!). It should be perfect for a walk… in a bit.
I’m also toying with a 23/1 today, to start the new year in good habits. I know I haven’t eaten excessively, but I have consumed a little more than I needed…
“Did nature give us bellies so insatiable, when she gave us these puny bodies, that we should outdo the hugest and most voracious animals in greed? Not at all. How small is the amount which will satisfy nature? A very little will send her away contented. It is not the natural hunger of our bellies that costs us dear, but our solicitous cravings.” (so said Seneca, a really old dead Roman, proving that nothing ever changes!).
Hi Fast Trackers And Hello World (You All know Who You ARE) π
Happy New Year to you all and trust that everyone had a good time I personally always found the big who haa over the NY over rated but hey kay sarah sarah. My sister has struggled this Christmas and NY without Mum as she always cooked and fussed over her so she volunteered at her local church with a luncheon put on for the less fortunate folk at the parish and so found some goodwill in doing that you know despite all the tragedy around the world. The loss of life through drownings here in Australia and the road toll it is always refreshing to see the volunteers going about their duties with pride and a smile one couple she said has been helping in the kitchen on Christmas day for 30 years β¦.. Outstanding ok as is the usual for me itβs not the overeating that is the hoodoo but the beer it is of course liquid bread so the bloat needs my fast attention today lets get the fast on.
βThe less you eat the more you loseβ
Peace RT
Jo,
Well done on exercising your willpower over the festive period, especially with all the temptation you’ve faced.
Will you get any wear out of your red trousers, or have they gone from far too tight to far too loose without stopping at just right?
I did a 23/1 yesterday, with another long walk (we had a beautiful sunny day, cold though), and have dropped the pesky half kilo I’d collected over Christmas. I’ll do another tomorrow to make sure I’m properly back in good habits for the new year.
Amazon,
Father Christmas brought me River Cottage A to Z, so I’ll hopefully be inspired on the food front to avoid making us winter comfort stodge every night. I’ve also got to try more from Anna Jones, although I suspect more when OH is on business travels since she does wander into ingredients that scare him π
Well, it’s my last day off work, and the sun is shining so I’d better get busy.
Have a good day all.
Morning/evening all,
Poor Wee, get well soon.
Purple, I hope your cold is improving.
I thought I was better until I walked to the post box in the next street and had a huge coughing fit before getting halfway along the street!
I certainly feel better but my chest is still tight and wheezy so enforced sofa sitting again today despite the sunshine βΉ
Happy, can you not just cook something and not tell the whole truth regarding ingredients until after he’s said “this is good”…….
River Cottage A-Z is bound to be fab but I really don’t have space for any more cookery books and there are some that need to be used more. My go to books for 2017 are going to be Anna Jones, Yotam’s Jerusalem and River Cottage Veg.
Anna uses a lot of sweet potatoes, spuds and various grains but I got this far without giving any of them up so I’m going to give several of her recipes a work out. I particularly like the look of the proper chilli as she calls it, and there are a couple of interesting looking beetroot dishes, a curry and a bourgignon style stew.
I’m fasting today and to be honest I couldn’t feel less like eating than I do right now.
Have a good one everybody π
Hi all,
So sorry to read of all you sickies!! Obviously once the Xmas adrenaline stopped, the lurgies moved in! I hope you all feel much better really soon.
I got on the scales this morning and got the expected result, a couple of kilos that someone else left lying around have decided to join me. But its great motivation for a good fast. Had a great fast all day, kept busy, very productive, then foolishly succumbed to some crackers with peanut butter tonight. We went to see La La Land and I only had soup beforehand, came home ravenous (11pm) after all the dancing and music (in my head!) Never mind, I did resist the cake and chocolates, so could have been worse.
Highly recommend the movie if you like musicals. The leads (Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone) were brilliant and the music was great. I loved that it had a more European flavour than American. I will see it again.
We had a lovely (almost) week at Jamieson, once the humidity settled. I think you probably have it in Sydney now Purple? Exhausting….we sat in the river a few days to keep cool. Melbourne is freezing again, jumpers and jeans weather!! Never mind, its good gardening weather!
Hi Jo,
I don’t think my brain is functioning too well at the moment (must be a consequence of all that rattling around every time I cough π ) as I spent quite a while trying to figure out how drinking water would help π€£
I hope I feel better tomorrow as I’m going stir crazy sitting at home π
I think mine is now hayfever. The pollen, plus humidity, often does that to me. Debilitating though as I have trouble sleeping and am exhausted on waking (like now).
Nama, we have cool and drizzly rain, so also ideal for getting new (Christmas present) plants into the ground. My hibiscus are loving this heat followed by rain…I have some stunning huge blooms on many of the plants.
I awoke starving after fasting yesterday. Most unusual for me, but I am sitting at my lowest weight, so I can listen to the message. ππ
I envy you being able to lose off your waist Jo. My weight peels off everywhere BUT my waist! P
Hi Purple
Just mowed the lawn as the weather has cooled to a manageable 25C today. I treated the resultant hay fever with a saline nasal spray FESS, which does the trick for me.
Same weight as before Christmas, which means 5 kg higher than I wish to be. So i am beginning serious 5:2 fasting. As I approach my third 5:2 anniversary, I am aiming to be close to my desired goal weight. My BMI is fine according to all charts. I just want to lose extra fat from around the waist. As you observe, fat at waist is First to come and Last to go!
Happy New Year to all. ππππβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈ
We’ve been to see LaLaLand and Red Dog True Blue and have enjoyed both films very much.
Cheers, Bay πΊπΊ
Good Morning all,
Big sleep in this morning then 40 min chat to DIL, the morning has vanished!
I am with you Bay, just need to lose a bit more to flatten the tummy! Have been a bit lax since after fitting into wedding outfit, Xmas did not help! Still, we have the secret recipe don’t we?
Gorgeous day in Melb, off to the market now as there is no fruit and veg anywhere in this house – craving some coleslaw!
Re hayfever – husband used to get it terribly, then had acupuncture years ago which was very successful for about 10 years. Then some homeopathy drops finally cured it and he hasn’t suffered from it for about 20 years. Both my boys seem to have inherited that gene, both really sensitive to dust and pollens. I did not know what allergies were until I got married! My Irish ancestors all had alcohol dependence problems, not allergies!!
Purple, I developed hay fever in my 50s for no new reason that I can see. I am impressed with your son for giving up grains. I am convinced that for some of us grains are almost as bad as sugar.
Nama, I have been making your version of coleslaw for the last few days. I keep an airtight container of thinly diced cabbage, and at the last minute grate a tiny red apple into some of it, and add a small amount of mayo. And Bob’s your uncle, as my dad would say. Does anyone know where that saying came from?ππ
Cheers, Bay ππ
