  • Welcome to Jingle Jangle July, the lastest in the monthly 5:2 challenges for one and all!

@jaifaim has passed the baton to me for July. I have only just realised that her Jumpstart June icon was a battery🔋 not a can of beer🤣🤣.

The monthly challenges are an opportunity to reset and break up our weight loss journey. A 1 kg loss per month = 12kg per year or a monthly 0.5kg loss over a year = going down a clothes size.

If you would like to join in, feel free to add your name to the spreadsheet:

These monthly challenges were started by @coda in May 2016 and has been growing strong and successfully ever since. Our goals can be overwhelming when viewed as a whole. But by breaking them down into small achievable pieces (monthly challenges), you’ll be able to stay focused and motivated to accomplish your goal one step at a time in bite-sized monthly challenges. Here’s how it works:

    1. In your first post, introduce yourself to the group – helps us to get to know each other, especially helpful for newbies. Perhaps say something about where you started, journey so far, what you’re aiming for or how you are benefiting from fasting. You might like to include your starting weight or your goals for the month. But you don’t have to – share only what you are comfortable sharing online.

    2. Posting – This is the ‘HOW TO POST’ bit.. Start each post with the day of the month, where you are, and if you’re on a fast day (FD), non-fast day (NFD) or controlled day (CD). We’re all over the world and in different time zones so it helps us keep track of which day we’re talking about, who else is fasting with us on a particular day etc. For example, I’ll start my post (on 1st June) with “Day 1 – Ireland FD” …. that’s if I am on a FAST DAY (FD)
alternatively for someone else it might be “Day 1 – Monday – Ohio USA – NFD”… if they are on a Non-Fast Day (NFD)

    3. Spreadsheet – we will hopefully have a spreadsheet available and we will post the link on a separate post when we have it. It will be in alphabetical order by username. If you find it helpful, you can use it to record and track your progress as well as keeping track of how others are doing. It can help with perspective, accountability or planning. And if you need help just ask – there’s always someone happy to help. But you don’t have to use it if you don’t want to. It’s just another tool you can use if you choose.

    4. Frequency – Some people post daily, others check in every few days. Some are brief, others are long and chatty. If you’re posting for a second time in the same day please head your post eg Day 1 second post.

    5. Content of your post– Comments or questions, complaints or celebration – anything you’d like to share with the forum. Recipes, tips, tricks and bright ideas are always welcome. Remember: we all have good days and bad days, days we fall off the wagon or days when we are hanging on by our fingernails, days when our mojo deserts us and days where we feel completely in control. So DON’T GIVE UP – whatever it is, you are not alone!

    6. Community – This is a worldwide forum so there’s usually someone online. We all do our best to offer advice, support and solidarity.

    7. Pocket lists –A ‘pocket list’ is a list of the names of people who are sharing the same goal on a particular day. It’s great psychological support in mentally keeping that list in our back pocket, knowing we’re not alone. Anyone can join a pocket list or start a pocket list. Typical pocket lists are for FD but in the past they’ve been used for people doing daily exercise or planks, or DTF (dry till Friday).

    8. 5:2 basics – answers to many FAQs plus top tips:

As this month’s host, I will try to read every post. Apologies, however, if I miss a question or fail to comment on a post – life gets busy and I’m travelling a bit this month so if I miss it, I know someone else will step in. That’s what’s great about our little community.

And by way of translation, we use a LOT of abbreviations. Here’s a guide to some of the more frequently used ones:
    5:2 – 5 days NFD – 2 days FD
    16:8 – 16 hours fast – 8 hours non fast

FD – Fast Day (500 cals)

Hunger Dragon – that dreadful psychological beast that sometimes cannot be satisfied. Some people even name theirs (e.g. @i-hate-lettuce has an inner warthog!)

    Day -2 – South Africa 🇿🇦

Count me in please @merryapple, & thanks again for hosting 💐

Must try to make an effort next month so will be definitely be joining you @merryapple for “Jingle Jangle July”

It seems that the spreadsheet is set for view only so could you please set it to allow us to edit please @merryapple x

    Day 0 NZ

Editing access to the spread sheet is now corrected so go ahead everyone and enter your name and aim.

The lurid colours on the sheet are inspired by our current weather down here in the South Pacific. We are getting dark squalls and thunderstorms racing by. In-between fluffy white clouds float in the pale blue sky accompanied by a wee bit of sunshine… which means🌈🌈 RAINBOWS🌈🌈everywhere.

Not sure what day to put. But count me in please @merryapple. Thank you for hosting 😃

    Day 0 – USA/GA

    Joining you all for July

    I’ll be here!

    Day 1 NZ NFD 87.8kg

Up slightly but I went out for dinner at a beautiful wild food restaurant last night🤭. I had Wapiti, a very lean buttery soft wild venison meat. Wapiti were let loose in the Deep South by President Roosevelt. He gifted 20 to NZ in 1909 which have now become a major pest species. Our only native mammal is a bat (no land bridge to Australia way back). So this majestic beast lives in the Southern Alps causing erosion and eating rare plant species in the national parks. Their numbers have exploded because they are at the top of the food chain with no predators. Their population is controlled at best, along with tahr and chamois, by hunters and helicopter shooting and retrieval.

So off to a good start!
Welcome one and all as you wake up around the world!

    USA Day 1

I am in for July. I haven’t been very active lately because I have been so very busy but I have been following the posts. Hopefully, I will be able to do more posting in July!

    Thank you for hosting, @merryapple!

Ooops, I forgot to click the check box! See you all in July!

    Day 1 – NZ – NFD
    Weight: 249.5lbs

I’m in for July, plan to do my first fast day for the week tomorrow. I’ve put on 3kg since Feb, but plan to get that off with 5:2.
Going to Vanautu for 6 days on Tuesday plan to continue 5:2 over there

    Good luck all!

    Day 1 – Dorset – UK – NFD

This month is to lose all the weight I gained since stopping the 5:2 and holidays and socialising and being generally very lazy.

    Day 1 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD

No newbies on the horizon, so not much point in regurgitating the usual fasting bio. David, 61, living in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Suffice it to say that this is my 9th year of 5:2-ing, intermittent fasting & it works! Currently 69.5 kgs, BMI 21.5.

Wishing everyone a joyous yet judicial Jingle Jangle July!

    Day 1 – Rural Nebraska, USA – NFD – 156.6

I was well on my way to a CD yesterday–or even lower–when I discovered the half a sandwich I split with DH started out 1890 calories. YIKES!!!!! How was that even possible?? Next time we’ll split a medium, not a large, LOL!

Well said, @funshipfreddie, about not needing to regurgitate “the usual fasting bio.” Carol, 64, organist, piano teacher, quilter, knitter, gardener…and cook. and eater. Obviously.

Have not been doing well (last night being one example) but haven’t given up the ghost, so that means I’m not failing yet. My tendency is to forget by evening time what my goals are and why. I’ll get there.

Tonight we have a big 4th of July party to go to; some friends have a house on a lake and the party has…oh…150 people? No actual idea, but it’s a LOT. They have a boat and give rides all evening, the children are splashing in the lake, the beer and other drinks are flowing, and the food is a variety of side dishes and a smoked and roasted pig. A whole one. Right there in a special roaster that’s portable, but large enough to hold an entire pig. These friends don’t entertain in a small way, LOL! And then, the entire lake community pays for a fireworks display at dark that rivals any fireworks I’ve seen, including those in St. Louis one time. It’s a totally fun evening every year, and the only promise I make to you this year is that I’ll skip the potato/other chips. That’s my concession to “reasonable.” The one bummer? It’s supposed to be cloudy and rainy and cold all day/evening, with a high of 72/22–that is not typical summer temperatures around here and will feel cold to our bodies accustomed to 90/32. Oh well, eh?

Okay, enough chatter. Have a grand one, everyone!

    Day 1 – USA/GA – NFD

Weigh-in: 223 lbs. Looks like two days of NFDs ahead of the holiday, so Monday will be my next FD. Age 48, almost 49, have lost over 70 lbs on 5:2, but have gained about 10-15 back in the past year. Trying to deal with some life adjustments and getting back on track on these NFDs 🙂

    Day 1 – Ireland – NFD 🚫🚶🏼‍♀️✅
    159.9 lbs 😬
In the desired decade and by the skin of my teeth 😁

Good evening all! I’ve had a busy day here.

I am very happy to be here with you all for Jingle Jangle July! Thanks @merryapple! Or joyous and judicious jingle jangle July as @funshipfreddie says 😁

I’d prefer to see a lower number up there but I’ll leave that as the goal for Jingle Jangle July with @merryapple 😁. Thank you for taking over for this month @merryapple and hopefully we’ll have a few more people back in the fold.

Throwing in my usual intro in case we have any newbies joining us:

The first challenge I joined was October 2017…and I’ve been intermittently fasting in all senses of that phrase 😂 since. Sometimes it’s hard to do but you fall off and you just climb back on again… 🧗‍♂️ I’m posting my starting weight here so that I can refer back on July 31. Last month I went up nearly 4lbs … busy month.

My name is a little play on words as I am a french speaker so “J’ai faim” means “I’m hungry” but also stands for Just Another Intermittent Fast And I’ll Maintain…it makes me smile 😊

I’ve recently revised my ideal weight (155 lbs) as I’ve reached what I recently thought was my ideal (160 lbs) and am the lightest I’ve been in many many years but know I could do with a little less flab💪. Ideally I’d like to get back to 155lbs this month.

I’m pretty much staying away from alcohol 🚫 so “on the dry” and have reduced added sugars ✅ as much as I can 😂 but I do love beer and tasting new gins etc so so have a tipple from time to time…

My firm promise to myself now is to have a better second half of this year – reach goal range and stay there. I have a few habits I need to build so will focus on that from this point forward.

    Onward and downward ⬇️
We rise by lifting others 💕

    Day 2 NFD NZ 87.6kg

About me – I started 5:2 back in 2018 with success although I didn’t quite make it to my goal weight (missed by about 6kg) so with a big break I’m back for more. Foodwise, I eat anything as long as it’s real, love to cook and hate industrialised food. Like my grandmother, I like a gin in summer, whisky in winter and wine with dinner although I have cut that back to ‘dining with friends’.

Mary, newly 65, RN (ex ICU) with a FA degree, manage my DH’s art estate. Have a 15 1/2 yr old Westie, a big garden with volcanic dry stone walls that I planted out with native trees and shrubs (my native bush in the the central city); an e-bike (too wet to ride for what seems weeks); spin, knit, design patterns and am about to be a beginner weaver.

Welcome to the new month and a fresh start for everyone but especially those who are doing a reset @at, @dramaqueen6, @ccco and @fastingnurse. If there are more people out there watching, take a breath, raise your hands and come and join in. Nothing venture, nothing loose!🤣 As a rule of thumb, I find the more you keep in touch, the better you do.

    To use @stitchincarol’s phrase
    RESOLVE to everyone!

    Day 1 USA/Hawaii NFD

I am full time caregiver for my DH who will be 89 in November. I started with this forum in 2017 and then drifted away. I’ve been back since October of 2022 to lose weight and try to increase strength and energy to give him the best care possible. I know I can only care for him if I care for myself too. We still enjoy our time together. He is a delight and makes me smile every day.I have lost 23 lbs since returning and have changed my long goal to just lose another 10 lb by end of year. For July I just want to get new low of 156lb firmly in place. Right now it’s doing the up/down thing but that seems to be the way I roll with each new low.

Right now we are dealing with Covid again and our caregivers are out sick or on other assignments so we are kinda stressed today trying to figure it all out. But I wanted to post and be part of the JJJ forum.

    Day 2 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – FD

@stitchincarol – that party sounds amazing, I hope you enjoyed it! 🎆🎇 🎉

@maui – I hope your care-workers are back soon to give you the help you need 🤗

Much-needed FD today 🎯 Let’s do this people! Get Jingle Jangle July in the bag, one day at a time. Whatever it takes; no more excuses 💪 It’ll soon be Christmas! 😱

    Happy S🌞nday!

    Pocket List – Day 2 🥕

    2nd post

@maui Lovely that you are joining in for JJJ. I like your abbreviation! We’re full of admiration for you and are all holding hands together on this weight loss journey.
Kia Kaha (Stay Strong in Māori)

    Day 2 – UK – CD
    Day 1 – NFD

Thanks @merryapple for hosting this month – I too am very happy to be here with you all for Jingle Jangle July!

Today I am aiming for a CD to prepare myself mentally for a FD tomorrow!

I am planning to trying to keep it simple this month – back to the basics for me – I find FDs easy but staying in control on the NFDs……now that has been a totally different story of late……

I am reminding myself of my personal motto that “If I quit now, I will soon be back to where I started. And when I started, I was desperately wishing to be where I am now”

    Day 2 – Rural Nebraska, USA – NFD – 158.2

Two nice things to report: I did indeed get to the gym yesterday, so that’s two weeks that I’ve gone 3 times each week. Does that mean we now have PFDS as well as PGS? 😂 Plus, not only did I not have any chips of any variety last night (as promised to you all), but I skipped the bun on the smoked pork, had beans but didn’t also have potato salad–so a very reasonable amount of food–only a tiny dessert, and only one beer. And one thing that kept me from going back for more was remembering my goal, something I mentioned yesterday as a challenge by the time I get to evening. So why, then, is my weight so awful? No idea at all; I was quite taken aback this morning.

Don’t know when I’ll be able to fast as I think we have plans for tomorrow and Tuesday is the 4th…I’ll have to sort through the options and make a plan. And on top of everything, I have a whining tummy; don’t know what’s up with that.

It’s nice to see so many of you back again, although I’m sorry it’s because many of you are up in weight, and it’s going to be lovely to all work together at staying on track this month.

    Have a grand one, everyone.

    Day 2 – USA/GA – NFD

Weigh-in: 224 lbs. Cooking out for independence day today… but at the top of my weight range; only a few ounces gain over yesterday.

    Day 2 USA (Illinois) NFD

How can it be July already? Whew… yes I have been incredibly busy but think about you all often. Occasionally I have even gotten to read some posts.

I am Gwynne, 75 yo woman in Illinois, active in our local children’s museum, choral society, and now also getting ready to move in the late fall. We’re building a house (just begun with the process so unsure when it will be finished). This means PURGE 36 years worth of “stuff” that we have in this house. Yes, far too long since we last moved! Glad we have all summer and fall to do everything.

My eating has been a bit more than I wish, so sure could stand to lose 5 pounds (2 kg) I began 5:2 in March 2016 then joined @coda in the first challenge in May and proceeded to lose 40 pounds. This system works! I’ve been unable to go to Silver Sneakers for months now due to cataract surgery (me) and knee replacement (hubby) – he still isn’t driving but at least is done with his ‘in office’ physical therapy. So now I do have some more free time.

@merryapple – thank you for taking the reins for July!

    Onward and downward.

    Day 2 – Ireland – NFD 🚫🚶🏼‍♀️✅

Hi all! A quick check in as I am on the move today.
Hope everyone is having a good Sunday.
Choices made were not too bad today.
Looking forward to the week ahead.

    Onward and downward ⬇️
We rise by lifting others 💕

    Day 3, FD, Aus

Back on the wagon. I do not recognise my body – there is soft squishiness everywhere!

Thanks for hosting @merryapple – for me, JJJ will be Just do it!

    Day 3 FD NZ 87kg

@songbirdme You’re so wise to return for a 5lb loss rather than waiting…
@penz You’re on the wagon. Let it roll!
@stitchincarol what a great party and well done. Everything will fall into place so keep going!
@northgeorgia It’s great you’re checking in but take care, you’re weight is quietly creeping up. Have a look at @at’s personal motto “If I quit now I’ll be back to the start wishing that I was where I am now…”
@funshipfreddie You’re on to it. We’ve passed the halfway mark for the year. 5+ months to go which could mean dropping a clothing size and a new outfit for Christmas!

    Kia Kaha!

    Day 3 – Dorset UK – FD

@penz – Haha “there is soft squishiness everywhere” rang a huge bell and describes ME so well.
@maui – I hope the caregivers are back soon.
@songbirdme – Totally agree on the shock of it being July already, I hope your house building goes well.
@stitchincarol- your evening sounds amazing and congratulations on your choice of food!
@funshipfreddie -“Whatever it takes; no more excuses 💪 It’ll soon be Christmas! 😱@Merryapple a new outfit sounds wonderful!

    Pocket List Day 🤸‍♂️

    Day 3 – Ireland 🇮🇪 – NFD

Morning all. The crazy birthday weekend of food, wine, long chats into the small hours are over!

Unfortunately back in the higher decade, but not extremely so, and as I am bloated and squishy a la @penz I hope it’s just water weight. No more family visitors on the horizon so it’s knuckle down for great results in Jingle Jangle July.

    Have a great day.

    Day 3 – Ireland – NFD 🚫🚶🏼‍♀️✅

    Hi all!

I’m here for a good FD. I’m not feeling great today but do feel my mojo is strong generally so poca a poca for today.
@merryapple a new one for me and I love the term Kia Kaha 💪
I’m a sucker for a bit of alliteration and love learning new words.

    Hi to @dramaqueen, @songbirdme, @fastingnurse, @penz, @ccco and @at – great to see you all back for @merryapple’s Jingle Jangle July 🔔

    Onward and downward ⬇️
We rise by lifting others 💕

    Pocket List Day 3 🤸‍♂️

    Day 3 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD 69.5 kg

Monday morning PFDS! 🥳️ And I clocked up around 11,000 steps, so a good start to JJJ🔔 But I’m going back to basics, using MFP daily until I get myself back on track. I’m lucky to still be at goal weight, because although I can definitely eat more since I quit drinking, I’ve gone off the rails a bit with the junk food 🐷

@songbirdme – I don’t envy your move after 36 years?! But I’m sure it’ll be worth it once you’re settled into your new home 🏡

The reason diet foods ruin your health – according to Dr Max:-

This has nothing to do with diet/weight loss, but it’s astonishing just how many wackos are out there. This unfortunate driving instructor was being stalked by an ex-client, 30 years younger than him?!

Wishing everyone RESOLVE for the first week of JJJ🔔 🎯

    Day 3 – USA/GA – FD

Weigh-in: 225 lbs. Not happy. Last weighed 225 two summers ago in 2021. I told my mom yesterday that my brother’s preference for cooking or picking up food at 8 p.m. just wasn’t going to work for me anymore, and she also said she preferred to eat earlier. But I can’t put this all on him; I have to make better choices and stop undoing all the hard work I’ve done in a manner of weeks. Tomorrow is a holiday, so today I’m doing a WFD and might do a b2b fd on Wednesday and Thursday — haven’t decided yet.

    Pocket List Day 3 🤸‍♂️

    Day 3-No. VA-FD

I am joining the fasters today, so have put myself on the pocket list. Yesterday was an overly-indulgent day.( Half of a reuben sandwich and potato salad, plus guacamole and queso with tortilla chips is not regulated eating. )
Hang in there, @northgeorgia! Better days are ahead!

    Pocket list, day 3:

    Day 3-No. Va-FD
I don’t know how well my organized fast day is going to go when I can’t even type my own ID properly. Also @penz. Sigh.

    USA. Day 3. WFD

Joining today’s pocket list! I have been entertaining way too much, so the pocket list is much needed!

    Pocket list, day 3:
    @ccco WFD

Ha ve a great day, everyone!

Day 3 – Stratford Upon Avon, UK – FD

    Hello all!
It’s been a while but I never really went away. I have followed this WOL before and I’d love to jump back on board and join the July challenge in the hope that it will help focus my mind.
So, I do have a lot of weight to lose and I’m not feeling great about myself but I’ve had enough of this constant yo-yoing. And while part of me asks why do I expect this time to be any different (the following quote resonates) – “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results” (thanks for that Albert Einstein!) the fighting part of me thinks, I haven’t failed until I’ve stopped trying…..
Soooo, here I am! ready to try again….
Currently 213lbs 🙁 really not easy for me to share this! But, here I go, one day at a time, one lb at a time….

    Day 3 – Rural Nebraska, USA – FD500 – 158.6

Yup. Ugly weight. And that was after I ate not a boatload. I think it’s because I’ve been allowing myself beer(s) and they are much uglier to the scale than wine. LOL, and certainly uglier than water!

YAY, @northgeorgia for saying that to your mom, and discovering that she too prefers earlier meals. I’m the only one within our group of friends who’s determined to eat at 6pm not 8pm (and it’s because of DH’s struggle with acid reflux, but I feel similar these days) and often get eyerolls from the others, but over the decades they’ve gotten used to DH and me, and are actually starting to agree with our preferred time because their bodies are old enough now to suffer if they eat too late. So, beg your brother to be merciful to you, LOL!

I’ve been thinking about my weight and trying to figure out how I’m going to successfully tackle that number…despite much enthusiasm and solid restarts over the past few months, nothing has “stuck” and the number is desperate. And something has hit me yet again.

I’m a woman who gets stuff done, right? You all know that, because I talk about how much I practice to make the Ascension Hymn Fest go well, and how many hours I spend gardening so the yard looks lovely, and how faithfully I tidy so the house is pleasant, and etc., etc., etc…but there’s nothing I can DO to lose weight; that requires RESTRAINT instead of ACTION. And my whole style is to be a woman of action, not a woman of restraint. LOL, ask my husband and he’ll tell you how horrified he’s been at some of my impulsive actions, LOL!! (we are very different people 😂😉🤪)

So what do I do with this not-new insight? The obvious answer is, “I need to show restraint.” It’s obvious though, that the answer is not that simple. Keep in mind that I truly am a woman of ACTION. So I’m going to need to work on incorporating a pride of RESTRAINT even as I continue with ACTION.

(Sorry for all the all-caps, but with no italics, I need them for the emphasis I want to show.)

So, yes, (and, sorry, @funshipfreddie, for starting so many paragraphs and sentences with “so”…I’ve discovered it’s something I do often!), I need to continue to be a woman of RESOLVE. And while I can continue to be a woman of ACTION and can be proud of all I accomplish with that attribute, I also need to learn to be proud of my skill at RESTRAINT because that’s the other half of the coin that brings success.

And there are my thoughts for this morning. It’s off to the gym in an hour or so, and perhaps some yard work. I have paperwork to read for the convention at the end of this month. I’m knitting consistently on DH’s Fair Isle sweater. Those are the actions that will keep me busy, and I’ll also work on being a woman of restraint and proud of it. 😇

    Day 3 – UK – FD

Busy day but managed to fit in a 5 mile walk before meeting with friends for a light OMAD lunch

Yoga this evening should keep me on track for my first FD of this Jingle Jangle July Challenge

@songbirdme – a move after 36 years……I have never stayed anywhere that long…..at least you have plenty of time to “PURGE 36 years worth of “stuff” and I’m with you wanting to lose around 5-7lbs that has crept back on…….
@penz – you and me both have jumped back on the wagon – let’s strap ourselves firmly on for this month and see where it leads us and @northgeorgia and @yo-yo-fletch plenty of room for you both to join us on the fasting wagon
@stitchincarol – RESTRAINT has not been my strongpoint either for the past months but it’s what is required if I am to lose those extra 7lbs that has crept back on so………lately I seem to easily do my FDs but then lose sight of any form of control/restraint on my NFDS……

    Pocket list – Day 3 🎯
    @ccco WFD

    Day 4 : 27 to go, NFD NZ 87kg

Hopefully everyone had a good FD and now it’s a day of eating wisely😬. Putting together @at and @stitchincarol’s thoughts, RESOLVE is the mindset needed for RESTRAINT on a NFD’s eating. I think possibly that the FDs retrain us in our approach to NFDs because after a while you begin to wonder what is the point of FDs if you don’t back them up with controlled NFDs.

When I cook I sample… I’m trying to make more than required and have a ‘TV dinner’ ready and waiting in the fridge. I’m with you@StitchinCarol. I’m eating earlier so by bedtime my meal is digested which also decreases the pre-dinner snacking timeframe (in an ideal world🤣🤣).
Go @northgeorgia. To change you need to make a change so good on you for talking with your mom.
Welcome @yo-yo Fletch. Glad you have joined in and jumped on the wagon! Now you’re on the slippery slope heading down not up😁. @fastingnurse the same to you.
@songbirdme Gosh that sounds like you have a busy year ahead. I hope you find some long lost treasures!
    @excelsior12309, @penz, @dramaqueen6 and @ccco Everyday is a new day!
@jaifaim You’re sounding really positive which is great to read.
@funshipfreddie If you are at your goal weight can you not eat what you like? Or do you feel that your choices are not in sinc with the what you want for yourself?

My Westie is on a 10 day course of steroids because of a yeasty undercarriage thanks to constant rain, waterlogged ground and (cold) humidity. The last three nights he has woken at 3am demented and determined to see off the giant predator on the property… I cannot convince him otherwise, it is the middle of the night and freezing cold (a big storm straight from the Antarctic is lashing our shores).

KIA KAHA, RESOLVE and RESTRAINT to everyone

    2nd post

    Happy Independence Day!

    Day 4, NFD, Aus

Happy Independence Day to our American friends! (USA America, that is, but I don’t think we have any Canadians lurking…)

Yesterday’s planned FD wasn’t. But at least it was (relatively) mindful. One day at a time.

Great to see you back @yoyoFletch.

You ARE a woman of action, @stitchincarol, and I think you can apply this tendency to 5:2. Don’t change a mindset that works for you so well in the rest of your life. Actively apply to fasting; walk away from the kitchen; enjoy smaller, lower calorific meals with gusto; say “yes I can do this!” rather than “no, I won’t eat that”. Flip restraint on its head and make it all about positive, active thinking.

[Says me who can’t follow my own advice…!]

    End of Day 3 –

Happily I did get in a good FD today. I should have put myself on the pocket list.

With tomorrow being Independence Day, we are taking a day drive over to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin (just over an hour) to have a good lunch and enjoy the scenery. My new car is a convertible, so it will be a great day to be out in the sun and breeze.

It is so wonderful to see well known names here and remember our history. @at – glad I am not the only one on maintenance who needs to shed a few!

@stitchincarol – your agenda of activity never ceases to amaze me! I would love it if there were some way we could drive over to NB and get together. In cleaning out this house, I have found a photo album I made of NEA Online (AOL group) teachers who chatted routinely, and we did a few gatherings at various places in the summer. That began 28 years ago! Sure enough, a few of them are still my Facebook friends!

Hope I can sleep – FD nights are always a bit tough.

    Onward and downward.

    Day 4 – DORSET – NFD

Well, the first FD of JJJ went well, it does help that we went dancing last night so temptation was well out of my way!

Happy Independence Day USA, hope you all have a fabulous day.

Have a lovely day everyone else.

    Day 4 – Ireland – CD 🚫🚶🏼‍♀️✅

Hope you and a good Canada 🇨🇦 day at the weekend @excelsior12309 and happy Independence Day to the Americans! 🇺🇸

    Great to see you @yoyofletch

I’m feeling much better today… thankfully!
Not sure what was wrong with me…

@funshipfreddie well done to you!!! Staying at maintenance and goal weight is difficult so hats off to you and @songbirdme, @at and others who manage it! I’m back to MFP too!

I’ve only been at maintenance very briefly (two days 😂)but can appreciate how tough it is…

It’s great to have company on the wagon! We can definitely do this and many of those of you struggling right now know have done it before so know you can do it.

    @dramaqueen – that’s a great way to deal
    With the FD 💃🏻! 👏

@stitchincarol do I think that the impulsiveness may be playing a role in your decision making… resolve and refrain are quite the opposite…
I know this because, although I’m not half as active or as much of a “doer” as you, (I am
Always in awe of how much you get done!) I am impulsive and I do like buying the nice things I spot near the checkout or spotting a “bargain” and not being able to walk past it or a thought entering my head like, for example, “mmm I’d love a croissant” and not being able to ignore that thought until I buy that croissant… or I think… “ahh I know I can do this WOL and this is just one more little thing..”
I am trying hard to retrain my brain on this as i know I’m good at it for bursts but holidays etc throw me.
Funny synchronisation happening as I was thinking over the weekend again how unlike my parents I am in this respect (the word restraint was in my brain all weekend…) so I want to channel both of them now into my second half of the year and hopefully be a person with more restraint on a consistent basis by December.

I had my first restrained day yesterday … ignored temptations and ate well but more 800 than 500. Good old MFP ✔️

Today won’t be a FD but tomorrow will.

    Day 4 – Ireland 🇮🇪 – FD keto

First FD of JJJ. Fasting until lunch, then my small mackerel salad, and dinner will be beef and eggs.

Welcome back @yo-yo-fletch, I remember you from the forum a few years ago, and although I am still here posting, I too have piled on pounds over the years, but mojo is back to start shedding again. Guess we are all (or a lot of us) are yo-yo in our ways 😳

@merryapple, hope your little Mackintosh gets well soon. What a great age he is ☺️

And happy Independence Day to our US friends.

@stitchincarol, the only thing that has helped me recently is that quote “Hunger is not an emergency”, and it makes me feel slight shamed that I was grumbling about being hungry, and it helps to give me resolve until my next mealtime. It doesn’t work all the time, but it’s helpful for me.

Hoping everyone has a great Tuesday.

    4th July 🇺🇸 🎇 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD

I logged EVERYTHING into MFP yesterday. It came to about 2470. Which isn’t bad, because I think my TDE is about 2400. I know – you’re all green with envy 💚 And I’ve already logged everything I’m likely to eat today, so I’m good to go 😇 It really doesn’t take that long; certainly quicker than losing the unwanted weight.

    @yo-yo-fletch – welcome back!

@stitchincarol – you can start ALL your paragraphs with ‘so’; so there 😜 It’s only spelling mistakes that trigger me 😅

@merryapple – if I ate what I like I wouldn’t be at my goal weight for long?! Not with my sweet tooth. I think eating what we like + temptation everywhere is how we all finished up here on the forum. I’ve got an inner battle going on every time I’m in the vicinity of a candy aisle 🍫

@excelsior12309 – I thought VA was for Virginia? So you’re in Vancouver? Hope you had a good Canada 🇨🇦 Day holiday.

Happy Independence Day to all our American Forum Friends! 🥳️ 🥂

    Pocket List – Day 4 🍗
    @daffodil2010 FD keto

Day 4 – Stratford upon Avon, UK – NFD

Thank you all, @at @merryapple @penz @jaifaim @daffodil2010 @funshipfreddie for your warm welcome back and thank you @at for adding me to yesterday’s Pocket List.

I had a good FD yesterday and even went for a swim (which I really enjoyed!). Feeling very positive and motivated 🙂 As I’m not much of a breakfast person I’m holding out until lunch today which is all prepped and calorie counted, dinner is planned and counted too and I will be well within my TDEE for the day. I really have to take this one day at a time!

To all folk in the US of A – Happy Independence Day! Hope you enjoy the celebrations!

    Day 4 – USA/GA – NFD

Weigh-in: 219 lbs. Happy to see the teens again, but sad this is a post-FD weigh-in. Anyhow, today is the only major holiday of the month, so should see myself back on track for a while now.

    Day 4 USA (Illinois) NFD

Happy Independence Day, for all of us USA’ers! Hot and sunny today as all Fourth of July days ought to be.

My FD yesterday left me 1.6 pounds down, and will break my fast with our lunch in Lake Geneva today.

@yo-yo-fletch – welcome back from me too! Glad to see you.

@funshipfreddie – I am right with you with using MFP. Happy for you to have that many calories on your TDE – mine is more like 1750.

    Onward and downward

    USA. DAY 4

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY to all celebrating it.

Another WFD! I have been eating too much lately, so am trying to compensate quickly. WFDs work for me.!

Have a great day everyone! will be spending the day with my grandkids at pool party! 🙂
