  • Good evening everyone and fellow plankers, thank you for making the inspirational challenge
    @flaquita,@jaifam,@basyjames 1 min completed DAY 2!

I managed to stay within my calories and estimated everything on MFP.

I plan to to a food and drink FD tomorrow… if not I can always try the 800 max cals as I keep seeing people do. I am trying so hard to crack this fat into shape.

I survived boot camp for 40 mins today without fainting!

    No pain, no gain.

Have a good one everyone, keep the faith!! Each day is a new day, don’t give up x

    Day 14 – Japan – NFD

It was a bit rough last night as I wasn’t feeling great but I stuck it out and I was fine in the morning. This fast went 38.5 hours. My daughter is getting better but she can’t go to school this week. Japanese schools are pretty strict about children’s health. Sometimes the school will even require a note from a doctor before kids can go back to school. I’ve even seen schools closed for a few days because too many students had the flu. Then they run the schools more often on Saturdays to make up the days, or they skip part of a break.

I’m always impressed by how many people fast on Mondays! Hang in there you are almost done!

    Day 12 FD!
I’d like to post early enough to get onto a pocket list on Wednesday…so there’s a goal:) They really look powerful!
Just a quick read of posts really gives one a boost!

After my EFS day, which at least I was able to turn into OMAD, although “meal” is not entirely accurate:/
I was able to take it further to: A 24hr fast day…I had water, plain black, green and decaf herbal tea. I felt great until the last 1.5 hours on Sunday when I felt a bit wonky in Zumba. It could have been mostly mental as I knew I was getting closer to the 24 hr mark…anyway I filled up my water bottle and carried on. I won’t plan to do vigirous exercise at the end of long fasts in the future. I almost always exercise in the mornings in a fasted state with no problem but I’m usually closer to 14 hours when I’m doing it, not 24. Lesson learned!

Checked in with the scale and had lost 1.25 lbs. for this 1st week. This isn’t much, but it is the 1st decrease since last July as I was hovering at the same weight for a long time so I am happy! I have a scale that saves and tracks data which is really handy.

I’m in on the plank challenge as well please! For me today was day 3, I decided to split it into several 30 second planks (I did this in yoga instead of upward dogs, which seemed to be the flavor of the day today for some reason)

What went well the 1st week of 5:2? Fasting, logging in MFP and exercise.
What didn’t go as well? NFDs and drinking enough water those days, I suspect I eat more when really I’m thirsty, as opposed to positively floating on FDs.

Thanks to everyone for sharing struggles, victories and tips. Although I’m not doing well at replying individually, please know your posts are greatly appreciated!
    Onwards and downwards!
Good luck to all of tomorrow’s fasters!

    Day 14, Aus, NFD

Hellooooooo all! Thank you for hosting @songbirdme. Sorry to be joining you so late in the month, but I’ve only just returned to work after nearly a month off work. And being away from the regimen of the office means I’ve completely neglected 5:2 since, well let’s be honest, November! I feel like I’ve had 2 months’ worth of FDs where “FD” stands for “Feast Day”. I’ve forgotten what feeling hungry is like. So with a new year and the end of the 2010s (I’m one of those who believe that the decade starts with a ‘1’) time to get back in the swing of it.

Bit about me. I’m mid-40s, married, with a pair of dogs who keep me out of trouble. I live in Canberra, the nation’s bush capital. We’re lucky to be safe from the fires but have been shrouded in smoke haze for weeks. Thinking of my fellow Aussies and foreign visitors, and all the animals, who have been so badly affected this season. Thanks for your thoughts fellow posters and thanks to all the firies out there.

I think I’ve put on 5 kg since my last serious weigh in, and overall I’d like to lose 15-20 kilos. Not sure exactly how much as I need to see it to know it. I’ve dabbled with 5:2 for years and when I stick to it I lose weight. Whodathunk? Problem is, I like my red wine and gin martinis too much. And like @basyjames mentioned, part of sticking to 5:2 is the accountability of logging in to this site. I’ve not done so since early December and it shows. To all the newbies out there, this forum rocks!

Plans for this year are to stick with my planned Monday and Thursday FDs (I’ll be with you @shiny Thing, @binklebonk, @ciren2 and others) and do Dry Mon – Thurs. Gotta have a plan, right?

Great idea re bathroom squats, @flaquita and what a simple way to incorporate it into a daily routine.

@flourbaby – you can freeze whipped cream? Does it defrost ok? (Might be a solution for my hordes of the stuff!)

Ha ha @angrypony – I had a pony when I was a kid who also liked running under trees or side swiping fence posts. I remember one day I debated whether or not to wear a helmet but when she ran me under a low hanging branch that smacked me across the forehead, I was so glad I had. I did love her though – taught me so much.

I love walking too, @i hate lettuce. Also why I love my dogs – they make me take them out even when I don’t feel like it. I have an old dog who plods (the dawdling doggy you want to avoid!) and a young pup who loves to run. I take them separately when I want to power along.

Thanks for the reminder of the egg fast, @daffodil2010. Must factor that into next week. How did yours go?

I laughed @funshipfreddie. I thought you had a typo with your rock dassies and wondered what you’d be possibly feeding daisies. Then I googled them. (Remember a world pre-google?) But I still wonder what you feed them! 

Sorry for the long post and for not commenting on so many others’. I’m just so happy to be back!

Day 13 Ohio, US — MFD

The fasting went well today. There was a 3 hour meeting this evening and I’m quite tired, so this is just a quick check in. That’s a great pocket list today!

Hope the beginning of the work week has been treating everyone well!

    Day 14: Gloucestershire, UK, NFD:

Hey @penz: good to see you again.
I feel so much sadness for you Aussies at the moment. At one point we were hearing that Canberra was the most polluted city in the WORLD! These bush fires are such a terrible thing this season. And as you also say….the animals, where can they run to?….I can’t bear to think about the suffering. How I wish you could have some of our rain….since the beginning of October we’ve had nothing BUT!
Good luck, all of you out there. xx

So many of you on the Pocket List yesterday. Success to you all, I hope.

Got to work now….see you later. xx

    Day 14 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD

A whopper of a pocket list yesterday?! Well done to us! 👏

@penz – good to see you back! Rock daisies, lol! The dassies are like miniature vacuum cleaners, & will eat just about anything. I take rabbit food for them, but most people take fruit & veg or bread.

Best of luck to any Tuesday fasters ☘

    Day 14 – CD – Ireland
Hello all, a good FD done yesterday as I was very busy in work. But did manage to do the 1 minute plank in the office 😂 I figured if anyone saw me I’d just say I was looking for something under my desk 😂
@brightonbelle – yep I cycle a lot… I’m at my happiest on my bike whether I’m with others it just in a solo spin. Sunday was an easy social spin and we didn’t push it too hard due to the winds..🚴‍♀️ I prefer sunny weather but you can’t be to choosey over here 🇮🇪
Hi @penz! Good to see you back!
@angrypony don’t worry about replying to people for the moment – life is busy enough.. When you get the hang of this WOL it may become easier for you … you’re doing really well and a loss is a loss and definitely better than an increase ⬆️ 👍👍👍

    Day 14 – Ireland 🇮🇪 – FD

Going to try for B2B2B this week, with today being the 2nd FD.

Yesterday’s fast went very well except for bedtime when I was making a cup of decaf tea and came across one solitary slice of white bread in its wrapper. That was it. I didn’t even know we had any left! Popped into the toaster, butter, tea and toast for supper just like my childhood. Except no movement on the scales this morning.

Anyway, onward we go. I am trying to mix it up to try and get momentum. @penz, the egg fast last week was only for one day but down a few pounds overall from last week.

@flourbaby, I read one of your links and, me being me, got interested in the Fat Fast. It actually looks very similar to the Attack Phase of the Dukan Diet, and this might be something I might incorporate with my 16:8 days just to see how it goes.

And yes @michelinme. as @flourbaby said there are a few of us that plunged down the slippery slope. You are never alone here however, so great to see you back and let’s do this.

As for decluttering, we too did that on Saturday and it was very cathartic. There are other rooms to do (mostly knick knacks and sentimental rubbish hidden away in wardrobes and drawers). But I plan to get to it sooner rather than later. Clearing the garden in Sunday however was the best feeling. I love my garden but I am also guilty of ignoring when things get unruly or overgrown. Now it’s fresh and ready for Spring.

I plan to sow my tomato seeds this week’s and my chilli peppers a couple of weeks time. I LIVE for this time of year!!! It’s my time. So let’s hope the fasting also works in conjunction with all this positivity.

    Day 14 – Cumbria UK – MFD

    Good morning everyone,

Wow what a pocket day list yesterday, hope everyone had a successful day!

@penz, welcome back and pretty sure you’ll be back into the WOL quickly after your break.

I had a look back through my notebook yesterday, I record every days calories in and exercise calories burned. Weigh in days Friday, record weight, BMI, BMR and total calories both in and out for week.
Rather odd at times, it doesn’t always follow that the best FD’s and total weeks calorie intake that I lose the most weight! Daily calorie intake rarely goes over my BMR, which is 1912, (I don’t ‘use’ my TDEE, think it might temp me to eat more)
I’ve found if on non FD’s if im somewhere around 1200 to 1500 works better than between 1000 to 1200 ? Exercise is pretty much the same each week.
However the main thing is weight IS decreasing and BMI down from 38.3 in Feb last year to 35.3 last Friday a total of 21 lbs loss all together.

@daffodil2010 – I enjoy my garden as well, unfortunately still too wet to get going, but greenhouse is very tidy. Perennial Fuschia cuttings taken in October are sprouting already!

    Take care all.

    Day 14 UK NFD

Morning ! Aiming for nice “controlled “ NFD and will be joining you tomorrow @angrypony

Good to see you back @penz

    Onwards x

    Day 14, London, UK, FD,

Another FD for me, since I’m at work I’ll bank as many as I can before the dreaded weekend of NFDs. I think I may make Monday’s a regular FD, the pocket list worked a treat with so many of us on it!! I’ll have to find something to occupy my Mondays ………………………….. & NO, I will NOT be doing a 4 day week!!!!

Phew, @penz is back!!! We’re as happy to see you back safe & sound, as you are to be back!! You’re in the right place to eliminate the last couple of months from your memory, I’ve done the same for October & November – those 2 months disappeared in a red wine haze, hence, Dry January!!!
Re the whipped cream thing, if you freeze double cream it’ll separate when defrosted, but, if you whip it first you can freeze it in ice cubes or muffin cups or any portion you might need, I do 2tbsp worth which is a useable amount for me and I can throw as many cubes into soups, coffee or defrost for CAKE when I like!!

@daffodil2010, in the same way I would have viewed fasting as starvation a few years ago, I view a Fat Fast as plain scary!!!! I might give it a go in February, this month’s focus is staying dry but drowning dragons – in soup & water that is!! Happy sowing days ahead, did you used to neglect your own planting when you were in the greenhouse, or did you have the same enthusiasm you have now?

Thinking out loud time – ……………………………………. Lots of us seem to be trying to ‘get back on track’, I’m not sure why we keep hurling ourselves off of not only the wagon, but the track itself!!! Why are bad habits the easiest to pick up? Why do we choose the path we KNOW is leading to unhappiness & poor health? I understand that a world without chocolate, bread and (Gulp!) red wine is a world without colour, but is it sooooo hard to use MODERATION!!!! I know, you’re all saying YES! Moderation is hard, that’s why we’re on this forum!!!! I live in hope of shrinking my inner glutton whilst strengthening that moderation/willpower muscle!!!!

    Onward & Downwards folks!!!

    Day 14, UK
Managed a FD yesterday, yuppie (coffee in the morning, miso soup at lunch, a couple of cups of tea during the day and in the evening, when everyone was having a Chinese takeaway, I had some of the prawn crackers).
    NFD today.

    Day 14 UK FD

Yay for successful FD yesterday, my first in a couple of months. OMAD supper of baked sweet potato and vegan mince came in at 640calories, and managed some gentle Yoga & meditation. Also drank a previously unthinkable 3 litres of fizzy water! Thinking maybe I’m back, but not counting chickens…

Amazingly today the scales show me down 2lbs – not sure whether it’s Easy On Easy Off or water weight. Time will tell. But great to feel that lovely DAFD cleanness…

@penz welcome back! You are not alone – several of us have disappeared and eaten our weight in unhelpful things. I only rolled back in on Sunday night and feeling focussed after one good FD. Together we are stronger!
@ihatelettuce congrats on the 20+lbs. That’s a fabulous achievement. Interesting to see how your stats measure up against each other… I find weight losss is rarely linear but have learned simply to trust the process
@jaifaim your under-desk plank made me spit out my coffee 😀
@angrypony congratulations on your first loss since July – way to go!
@daffodil2010 thank you! Yes, good to know we’re not alone even on the most downhill of journeys. So much so thatI’m going to join you and @flourbaby in B2B FD. Banking what I can ahead of long weekend away at conference

    Day 14 – Darlington UK – NFD

Hi there, good to see so many were on FD yesterday and did well. I actually went over my 500 in the end and finished at 645 but I was happy with that as ate mainly protein. Another lb down too. Today is a controlled NFD and another session at the gym with my daughter.

I just wondered if anyone else does a daily weigh in and if so do you find if you have alcohol and still under your cals do you find the scales don’t move next morning?

    Day 14 Canton Ohio FD

@flourbaby I have been so inspired by the links you posted that I am planning a fat fast from Tuesday evening to Sunday evening. I am hoping to parlay that into my first 24 hour liquid fast of the year.

I am with you @caroline esty-akporokah must crack this fat into shape- I will not be denied!

@dykask my daughter is ill too, she’s been out of school for 2 days so far, and I am hoping she recovers enough to go in tomorrow. I hope your daughter feels better soon.

@angrypony well done on the mental will power, I can usually exercise in a fasted state at the beginning of my fast but towards the end I just want to curl up in bed and make the world go away. Congratulations on your first weight loss since July – way to go!

    Day 14 USA (Illinois) NFD

Sounds like most of us did well on Monday fasting. I was glad the annual “step on the scale” at the doctor’s office was one pound less than last year! Yeah for this forum and maintenance. All my numbers from blood test were within normal ranges. Yeah for that too.

@angrypony – I feel for you being in Oregon and trying to get “in” at the beginning of the day. It’s bad enough in Illinois, but we all understand.

@penz – happy to see you back with us! Oh so sad for all the fires and air quality in Australia, and oh, the poor animals. But we’re glad you’re safe.

@matpi – yes, that really was a great Monday pocket list yesterday.

@i-hate-lettuce – you have Perennial Fuschias? I am so impressed. I can hardly keep one alive for the summer that I buy at the nursery in the spring.

@wellrounded – those early FD’s can really be a struggle, but we know if you persevere, you can do them with ease and lose weight.

@michelinme – too often “easy on” becomes “hard loss” – glad you’re progressing.

@basyjames – exercise in fasted state is such a personal struggle for me. Think you’re right about earlier in the day is the better time to have residual energy.

    Onward and downward.

Another wet day on the deliveries, same as yesterday. At least, being Tuesday, the mail was nice and light.
I am still not getting back on the wagon….how long since I fell off….YEARS actually. I suppose the important thing is to still be here with you all (more successful) people….and keep on hoping!
I do often manage not to eat after my big “coming home from work” meal mid-afternoon. So my weight, though nearly 10 kg over, is fairly stable.

    USA Day 14 FD

The end of my eating for this FD has come to an end at 434 calories! It was a successful and much needed fast, as I found I put on two lbs. Ugh! I’ve got to get off this rollercoaster! Yesterday was too much food and I find that I overeat in the Winter from boredom!

    second post

Much harder today, 2nd day of B2B. I drank 2litres water but spent the day feeling thirsty, achy and really tired. Here’s hoping that’s my immune system being boosted by fasting.

I’ve now stuffed myself with cauliflower, spinach, quorn chicken with tomato & mushroom sauce. Even with a smidge of butter and a corner of cheese it’s come in just under 500 calories. Closing kitchen and heading to bath & bed.

Well done on solid FD @ccco and Strength to today’s fasters x

    Day 13 -14 – UK – FD

Today is my 3rd FD in a row FD600 – FD800 – FD800 – Aiming to continue with Wed – Fri this week being either FD500-FD800 – felt I really needed a kick start both my mind and body with this WOL after my overindulgence over the past month and thus letting my weight creep back up…..“If I quit now, I will soon be back to where I started. And when I started, I was desperately wishing to be where I am now”

The only good thing is that I have kept up with my regular exercise classes as follows:-
    Mon – 45mins Broga – 60mins Pilates – 90mins Yoga
    Tues – 90-120mins walk – 45mins High Impact Pilates
    Wed – 90mins Yoga
    Thurs – 60mins Aerobics
    Fri – 90-120mins walk

Just goes to show how important it is to keep control of our diet!!!!!!

@caroline-esty-akporokah – any soup made with lots of vegetables, avoiding high starch content ones will be filling and low calorie – they are a godsend on cold days – I also sometimes choose to have a bowl of porridge made with 60grms of oats and semi skimmed milk as my OMAD on FDs
@flaquita – Yoga is a very important part of my life and my teacher puts on regular workshops usually associated with the solstices 🙏
@michelinme – so lovely to have you back with us – have missed your posts 🤗
@ciren2 – 👎 for all the wet weather we have been experiencing – feel for you on your rounds! When I retired I started doing more exercise and some volunteering and for me that has helped me to lose weight – I also found practicing mindfulness very useful!
@songbirdme – glad to hear that the loss of a large bough from a tree in your garden during the recent ice-storm caused no damage to your house!! and that your “step on the scale” at the doctor’s office was one pound less than last year! 👍 for maintenance!
@dykask and @basyjames – sorry to hear about both your daughters being unwell – hopefully they are starting to recover
@matpi – Good to hear that you now know where the problem lies and that you are working on finding a solution🤞
@binklebonk – try to feel no guilt from having enjoyed a good weekend with your friends – that’s the beauty of this WOL you can now have a couple of good FDs and some controlled NFDs and you will back on track🤞
@daffodil2010 – sounds like you are in a good space being 3lbs lighter in a week
@emma Taylor – good to hear that you are enjoying your Roman break! keep up the 🚶‍♀️
@bellyblast and @penz – great to have you back with us x
@wellrounded – don’t worry about what day it is – it’s whatever day it is in your hemisphere so just go with that 🤗
@flourbaby – your musings on “why we keep hurling ourselves off of not only the wagon, but the track itself!!!” resonates with a lot us

Even though I am getting to end of my FD, I am adding myself to the Pocket list to keep me motivated. I am off to have a shower and to brush my teeth to signify a close to my eating/drinking except for water until bedtime!!

WITH THE NEW DAY COMES NEW STRENGTH AND NEW THOUGHTS – This is from First Lady and activist Eleanor Roosevelt, and perfectly sums up why you shouldn’t fret if things don’t go your way today – tomorrow is a new day!

    Day 15, Aus, FD

Thanks for all your ‘welcome back’ calls. Group hug!

It’s Wednesday but I’ve decided to do a B2B FD to get me into the swing of it and sit alongside my normal Thursday FD. @at – you are my inspiration today.

Had dinner last night with friends and only one G&T so that’s a good morale boost that I can do this (although yes, it’s not really conforming to my self-promise of Dry til Fri…) (It was a new Australian gin I’d not tried before made with green ants. Truly! And it was gooood.)

Thanks for the cream tip @flourbaby – will give that a go. And your thinking out loud thoughts so mirror mine. Moderation! Commitment! Mindfulness! Restraint! All leads to REWARD!

The weather bureau notes there’s a 95% chance of rain here tomorrow. Yes please!! Not only is it much needed to drown fires, restore empty dams and give hope to farmers, my poor garden needs it. Amazingly we’re not yet on water restrictions in Canberra and I’ve been hand watering established plants that have not needed any additional help before, but they’re dying. I’ve lost several already (and I am dreading this quarter’s water bill – our rain tank is empty.)

Yesterday’s FD went well, thanks for adding me back on the list @michelinme it is lovely to have you back!!!
Super cold day again -27 and I have been munching my way through the day, also fighting off a cold and hoping to win that battle.

    Day 15: Gloucestershire, UK, NFD:

Rained ALL night….again, but we seem to have a respite at the moment. Long may it last.
@penz: You, however, have the opposite problem. I do hope you get the rain you need so badly. DD in Melbourne says it’s been very smokey there for about a week or so. Apparently they now have the dubious honour of being the most polluted city in the world. Horrible thought. She says they have to spend more time indoors than usual.
    @betsylee: I hope you’re ok…if you read this xx

    Day 15 – FD – Ireland
Hello all, a good CD yesterday was very nearly derailed after lunch as my colleague had brought back some treats from their holidays… Opened the wrapper and thought I’ll just take a teeny tiny taste… but… stopped myself just in time…. popped it back in my desk and will taste it at the end of the month…
It’s not that I absolutely can not touch sugar for the month but I’m doing well and I knew that yesterday it would have set me back and i would thought “ah well I’ve had so one I may as well have another….. I’m finally beginning to realise when my body craves something…. so nip it in the bud…
Plank challenge continues 🤸‍♂️ … Sorry about that @michelinme 😂😂

    Day 15 – Ireland 🇮🇪 – FD

It’s my 3rd B2B2B. Going ok so far. There was a teeny dark mint chocolate in work but restrained myself from any further. I wish people would stop bringing their left over goodies into work, although 95% of the time my willpower is string, but all it takes is one taste, and like @jaifaim I start telling myself “ah well, sure I ‘ll have another”.

I know that the way to get rid of this excess Christmas weight is to do something like a liquid only fast, or prolonged fast days, or something drastic….but it’s too cold to even want to have a prolonged fast…..so I have decided to follow the Fat Fast from @flourbaby‘s links for 4 days next week, Mon through till Thursday. As I noted before, it’s like the Dukan Diet “Attack” phase and I successfully lost 8lbs in a week doing that in 2013!!!

Just need to kickstart the weight loss again as I am at least a stone heavier than I deem good, and 20lbs heavier than ultimate goal ( which may not be achievable as I get older and into menopause). Hmmmm.

@i-hate-lettuce I love my gardening time. I studied horticulture for a year in our National Botanic Gardens and it was HEAVEN!, I got a job in a local Glasshouse but unfortunately it all ended badly with a bullying boss. However, now I have a cosy office job and realise it’s much nicer to potter in the garden in your own time and not be freezing cold in a commercial glasshouse during winter and sweltering in the summer 😆

@songbirdme My perennial fuschia is a delight, it’s in a sheltered spot and still has lovely glossy leaves. I will prune it back in Spring and await the wonderful blowsy show of blooms in the summer.

@flourbaby I still have the same enthusiasm for all my plants as I did before, and as noted above, I am truly delighted to be working in a nice warm office these days rather than layering up with heated insoles in my boots!!

This talk of horticulture has reminded me of @cornish-jane who used to post every morning. Hope all ok with her and maybe she will pop back in.

Right, got to get coffee for DH, he has a big job interview this morning which we really hope he gets, so I want to start prepping him ha ha.

Have a great day. Together we are stronger.

    Day 15 – Cumbria UK – FD

Quick visit this morning and add myself to FD list.

@songbirdme – yes perennial fuschias do well in our area, they make a really nice hedge in summer, not a lot to look at this time of year though!

    Take care all.

    Day 15, London, UK, FD,

So it’ll be my 3rd FD this week and the scales are NOT cooperating!!! Maybe I’m not drowning dragons enough (3L is the goal) or perhaps it’s the exercise because the mirror and the fit of my clothes say the scales are an outright liar!!!

@jaifaim & @daffodil2010, way to go swerving the ‘treats’, on my first day back after Xmas some donkey opened a box of chocolate truffles and begged people to eat them!!! I think it was too close to Xmas for anyone other than the young-uns to indulge – these young men in their 20’s have appalling diets but NO weight issues!!!

Our company Xmas do, now retitled the Annual-Do, ‘cause it might not be held anytime near Xmas from now on (££$$££), is in just under 2 weeks, the dress of choice is a little snug, but I’m continuing to 30DS and I’ll continue fasting so fingers crossed. I’ll have to research the fat fast or egg fast or water fast, just in case things get desperate by Sunday!!

@at I look forward to retirement as long as I can fill my days with keeping as fit as much you do!

@bellyblast, wrap up warm, I can’t even imagine -27, I’m sure I would just hibernate near the fire and eat stodge ………………….. my favourite comforting food group!!!

Good luck Mr. @daffodil2010, I hope the interview is a breeze!!

    Day 15 UK ?FD/CD

Squeaked thru yesterday’s FD at 504 mainly due to vegetables! 2nd of B2B was surprisingly harder than Monday ie my first FD in a while. But feeling much slimmer – partly due to 2 days of gentle yoga stretches also. So far, so good.

I suspect yesterday’s struggles may have been bc less water – Mon 3litres Tues 2litres – and possibly my autoimmune/neuro issues. All the usual nerves and joints were burning away and I felt weirdly ‘off’. But reminding myself that fasting is great for fighting inflammation and going with it for now, gently.

I’m off into town for meetings shortly, not back until late evening. I’ll be clutching a box of chopped apples and carrots, a litre of fizzy water and a jar of marmite for hot drinks. I’ll see how I go as to whether it’s a B2B2B FD or break fast via Pret salad / soup later on.

Two hour overview meeting then finding a quiet corner for writing before an evening community gathering. I’m around 1/3 written, the rest still a huge heap of research odds & ends – deadline of Friday morning. Hoping the quiet corner out of the house with laptop, books & papers will do the trick…

@at sounds like a fabulous way to jump start the year and get you back on track… You are like an advert for how this WOL works!
@daffodil2010 good luck to DH :)thanks to you & @jaifaim for sharing temptation stories. I’ll hold onto that today. And @jaifaim – mind your head 😀
@bellyblast thank you 🙂 No idea how you cope in such cold temperatures!!! We have the full gamut of climates in this little corner….

Must get on! Squishing stretches, agenda, sifting papers & going out in 60 mins!! Whatever the day brings, go gently x

Day 15 Canton OH Fat fast 1

@at same here, diet is so important! I have been keeping up with my exercising. As a matter of fact, I am exercising harder and longer than I ever have my entire life, and the pounds were still creeping up because of my indulgent diet. You really can’t out exercise a bad diet, especially as we get older.

Good to know that our taste buds will acclimatize to anything if we give it a chance, I am sipping black coffee with only a sprinkle of cinnamon and I have to say it’s actually quite nice – who would have thunk it?!

@daffodil2010 we are thinking the same thing! The holiday weight is stubbornly clinging on for dear life, and the only way to kick it to the curb in a hurry appears to be extended and/or liquid fast days. That is why I am following the fat fast for the rest of the week, I really want to see some movement. B2B liquid FD were not a problem for me in the past, so I am hoping this will get me back in that mindset. I am also in early menopause, and the dreaded abdominal creep is trying to set in and seriously freaking me out!!!!

Day 15- Atlanta, Ga.- USA- B2B FD

Wasn’t successful yesterday. So I’m gonna go for another FD today.

    Day 15 Canada NFD

Another arctic day, -26. It is getting harder to spend enough time outside to fill my exercise needs in. I agree with @at and @basyjames that diet is the most important thing we can do, but moving does make me feel so much better.

@flourbaby your scales will drop soon, hang in there 💪
@daffodil2010 good luck with kick starting your weight loss ✌️
@funshipfreddie were are at the extreme ends of the weather today❄️☀️
    @jaifaim oh those cravings
@michelinme I hope your quiet corner is comfy and you get the work done. I am just getting out lots of vegetables to get me through the day😃

    USA Day 15 FD

Hurray! A successful FD! Closing the kitchen at 666 calories (although I don’t particularly like that number! LOL)

Hope everyone is having a wonderful day!

    Day 15 – UK – FD800

This will be my 4th FD in row – thank you @penz for adding me to the Pocket List 🤗 when I saw that this morning I knew I would stay strong and complete this fast day!

A 0915 Broga class with OH as my regular yoga teacher is away this week, then met with friends for a coffee, followed by my regular afternoon of volunteering. Drinking plenty of water…….

A lovely day here, even got some sunshine but a bit colder than when we had rain, which I don’t mind when the sun is out. Some snow on the higher fells 🏔

@bellyblast – just so cold where you are ❄️❄️ the coldest place I ever skied in was Lake Louise – I can still remember it clearly – It’s the only place I skied where I covered up my face completely with a mask and goggles and my hat pulled right down – the windchill was something else…..needed foot and hand warmers too…..
@jaifaim – 💪 for sticking to your no added sugar and putting those treats back in the wrapper and away until the end of the month
@funshipfreddie – looking forward to the 🏏 tomorrow – As an Aussie living in the UK I’m actually impartial on the outcome – just hoping for a cracking game
@daffodil2010 – you and I are tracking each other on B2B….. we can do this!
@flourbaby – retirement just gave me such a different mindset, I know that I’m fitter and stronger now than 10 years ago!!
@michelinme – thank you for your kind words 🤭
@basyjames and @bellyblast – I do agree that you can’t exercise out a bad diet, also agree that exercise helps to put me in the right frame of mind to be careful of what I eat/drink, plus it makes me feel good!

To lose weight permanently requires faith – faith there is a bigger life waiting for you beyond food and weight. – Catherine L. Taylor

Hi everyone!! Sorry it is late…

    Great posts everyone

@at any soup made with lots of vegetables, avoiding high starch content ones will be filling and low calorie sounds fab thank you xx I also like porridge with almond milk and fruit which I hope to have tomorrow.

I have been struggling with binge eating after a FD, I have managed a good liquid fast today and hope to be more controlling of my food choose tomorrow! Sorry I never added to the pocket list.

I have just done my 1 minute plank challenge. Well done to every one who had completed this today!

Weigh in day tomorrow. Have a good night all. Stay focused x

Some great posts as always today x thank you x

Day 16 FD country West Australia
    Monday’s FD…. wasn’t.
Well it was somewhat over 800 calories but I prefer to try to keep under 500 calories to really count it.
It must be a brain thing but I seem to be more in control and take it more seriously when I have to keep at or below 500 cals. Too much wriggle room otherwise for me!
@penz, so good to have you back.
I’ve been very hit and miss for some time but trying to be better at posting daily – that’s what keeps me on track.
I think I have to get back in to more exercise. I see what some of you are doing – props to you for getting up and getting going.
Trouble is I am such a night owl. Barely conscious until about 10 am!! So exercising in the am not such a good thing for me – but may be I should try to change the habits a lifetime??
@at, well done on so many FDs in a row
@brightonbelle, we would LOVE some rain see in WA. It is so dry.
Many of our dams have gone dry and it is a real headache trying to keep water up for the sheep.
We are all hoping it rains sooner rather than later , though that will ruin the dry feed for the sheep ( makes the nutritious dry grass like rather mushy weetbix and devalues the nutrition ) so then we have to hand feed them all, so it’s a delicate balance…..
Will catch up on posts later – have about 4 pages to read.
    Have a good day all

    Day 15 USA (Illinois) NFD

Home from taking care of some car issues –cold, rainy, and foggy. Must be like London?!

@ccco – winter boredom eating is often difficult to overcome. Maybe if you’re bored, try reading some of the other helps on this website? I know…nothing like eating….

@at – I so appreciate all your feedback and support for all of us here.

@caroline-esty-akporokah – often have to make homemade soups to stay away from carbs (pasta & potatoes) but we know it’s better for us.

@bellyblast – REALLY cold indeed up in Canada! How far north are you?

@ciren2 – sounds like your rain has been non-stop!

@jaifaim – eating sugar begats cravings … how hard that has been for me to learn. You are so wise to nip the eatings in the bud!

@funshipfreddie – whew … I am sure your heat that early is hard to take.

@daffodil2010 – so enjoy hearing about your gardening. You must have quite mild winters.

@lilymartin – praying for rain for all of Australia (but not to harm the winter feeding…)

    Onward and downward.

Day 15 Ohio, US — MFD
    Day 14 — NFD

The fasting went well today, even with both yesterday and today being really hectic. It looks as though not everything needed for preparation for tomorrow will get done tonight, so the morning will probably be hectic also. Thursday and Friday are going to have so much going on that today was the only chance for a second fast day this week. Phew! January is turning out to be a quite intense month!

Patient endurance attains to all things!

Day 16, Aus, CFD. Or OMAD. Or 800 Cal?

Having that lovely PFDS – post FD smugness (@Funshipfreddie: if it takes off, you need to add this acronym to your list!) It was easier than I feared and I felt great this morning. Glad you were there on that pocket list @at!

I was planning on doing B2B today but had a ham and cheese toasted sandwich about 2.30pm. Mainly brought about by the need to get away from the desk, and breaking work stress, than hunger. Still, if I don’t have dinner, I’ll feel satisfied with the day.

And we got some rain last night. Some. So nice to hear it on a tin roof. The bureau promises more to come but so far it’s late. I even won’t mind if it starts to rain on me as I walk to the car this evening!

Thinking of you @bellyblast. I’m assuming you’re talking celcius, but even those figures in Farenheit is unpleasant.

Hi @lilymartin. Rather than changing the habits of a lifetime*, I think we’re often more successful if we work within the limits we know we have. If you know you’re not a morning person, there’s no point in battling that to try and fit in some exercise. Maybe become a midnight-runner/walker/yogi (whatever) instead? *this WOL excepted of course!

Mental note: I should read the forums in the afternoon rather than first thing in the morning. That’s when I need the support and motivation! There are often v few posts between the time I post and when I log off! 

    Day 16 – NFD – Ireland
Good morning! Good FD yesterday although found myself much weaker in resolve than last week but my brain just seems to be in a good place so fought it…
lots of exercise with lunch walk and circuits last night. Feeling so much better in mind and body than the end of last year…
@lilymartin and all in Oz praying for rain for you all 💦 and @bellyblast and others in very cold climes it’s hard to imagine it being so cold you just can’t go out… we really can’t complain about our weather over here…
Have a good day everybody – we are rolling toward the end of the month now…..
    Stlll on the dry 🚫
Still no added sugar & treats ✅
Still logging EVERYTHING in MFP 📝
Planking (mostly under the desk while PC logs on 😂). If anyone asks I’m looking for a paper clip 📎 🤸‍♂️
    Onward and downward ⬇️
We rise by lifting others 💕

    Day 16: Gloucestershire, UK NFD:

Hi, @penz: Hope you haven’t logged off yet! I assume it IS afternoon there now.
I’m working my day off today….so little chance of an EFS day as would be usual on a day off, so good news.

Must fly…see you all later xx

    Day 16 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD

@at – cricket? Nooo?! I’m clueless. Although many South Africans are very passionate about it; it’s almost like a religion here.

@penz – I’m sharing the PFDS with you; I came in under 600 cals yesterday. And no hunger at all. About the only good thing about this heat – seems to be an appetite suppressant.

@songbirdme – even hotter today! We’re supposed to get some rain & cooler days at the weekend. Hopefully for Australia too🤞

I’m off to find a nice, air conditioned mall for a lazy brunch.

    Day 16 – Ireland 🇮🇪 – NFD

Well, the B2B2B, whilst relatively under orders, has me at same weight as Tuesday so one 1lb down, but 4lb since a week ago. But the weekend looms so I take my official weigh in as early next week.

Very unpleasant things happening in my body almost every evening around 7pm…..I literally have to dash for the loo, and this has been going on for a week or so but only during week days!!! The rest of the time I am, erm, normal. Trying to figure out what has changed in my routine…..I am drinking far more coffees and detox teas, green tea, and water than I used to……maybe it’s that?

Oh goodness, and the excruciating foot cramp last night, arch and toes of my left foot, went on for 15 mins, still feels tender after a night rest. Not enough magnesium? Potassium? It all has to be nutritionally based, don’t you agree.

I also throw lemons into my two water canisters for my desk…maybe too much detoxifying lemon? I mean, I am fasting, so there is not much to get rid of, but boy oh boy, it’s a shocker!! I also realise that I might be washing my bodies natural salts and electrolytes out in my rush to detox, so I am starting back taking some pink Himalyan salt under my tongue and have added a few grains (instead of lemon) to my water bottles.

So, today is a gentle NFD. I have decided to have two boiled eggs for my very rare weekday breakfast, just to buck me up a bit. Got to stop this cramping and loo dash from happening again so I will limit my detox teas for the rest of the week.

Thank you @flourbaby and @michelinme for the good wishes for DH’s interview. He said it went really well. Now to wait 😄

@basyjames good luck with the Fat Fast, I will start on Monday, do let us know how you get on. Yup, the dreaded Creep, he is becoming quite at home around my tum too 😨

Oh, must mention, I have joined the Plank Challenge, did a two minute plank no issue this morning, so it must still be there!! Ha ha @jaifaim, you are gas doing yours under the desk!! My desk area is way too small, I would be carted off!!

@songbirdme, yes, we have a maritime climate here in Ireland, although further north latitude wise than a lot of Canada we have the Jet Stream off the Atlantic keeping us mild. Yesterday was icy but today is around 9C….we rarely have prolonged snow, which is just as well as the country grinds to a halt. So I can happily keep my garden looking alive even in the depths of winter, yay!

Have a good day everyone, hope all you Thursday fasters do well.

    Day 16 – Cumbria UK – FD

Quick pop in, taxi service this morning, OH to railway station!

    Take care all
