  • Day 7 – Japan – NFD (1 water fast done in 2020)

Water fast day was easy. I was a bit concerned after a week of not fasting, but my body seemed fine. My weight is still dipping below 80kg. I have been thinking about just how long of a water fast I could possibly survive. One can’t take their body fat to zero since fat is a major component of things like our nervous system and skin. For a normal size man it means one should have at least 4kg to 6kg of fat to survive. Then a bit more is needed for the body just to function well. I lose more than 1kg of fat a week while fasting. That isn’t that much, only around 1000 calories a day, probably a bit less since 1kg of body fat is actually only around 85% lipids. (Which is also why it is also easier to build body fat 😉 ) For me I have around 10kg of fat I could probably spare. So 60 days would really be pushing things, by 90 days I would likely be starving or dead. However a 40 day fast like Jesus did in the bible would be doable. I guess this is why people aren’t very active in longer fasts.

@lilymartin – 20kg in one year! (I hope I got that right) Now that is a goal! I’m not really that much of a fan of the vegan diet but I heard one thing from a vegan that made sense. She eats almost a kilogram of dark green vegetables every day, because it only adds up to around 200 calories and then she can’t eat too much of the “good” stuff because she is already almost full. If I ate like that, I would probably lose 10kg in a year without any fasting. Anyway, best of luck!

Well I wish everyone still completing day 6 fast success!

Women’s Little Christmas – January 6 – just heard about this tradition that is still celebrated in Ireland.

Any of our Irish women satisfied after today?

Day 6 Ohio, US — NFD

I made a comparison with my counting of mouthfuls and my older eating routine and discovered that right now they come out the same. So I may run an experiment with trying out the old “tried and true.” Today was another acupuncture treatment for heel spurs. After the last treatment the heel pain went away completely and only came back this morning, so I guess it was perfect timing.

@jaifaim Yes, it’s the first thing I do after the morning ablutions. That time and between 5 and 6 pm are the only times that are open for regular yoga practice. Until sometime in October I was using a 45 minute routine every day, but it became impossible to work that into my schedule, since around 5 I’m often too tired to do the practice. This way, my routine lasts between 15 and 20 minutes, so not quite as intense. On the other hand, I’m doing it every day and I think that may be more important than just the length of time.

@songbirdme Well I don’t have that tradition, but January 6 is when I put away all the Yuletide decorations. I like to keep everything up for all twelve days of Christmas. Some people say you should put the decorations away on Twelfth Night, but since the 6th is when, at least traditionally, the Magi arrive, I never could see putting away the nativity set before some of the principals had arrived yet.

@bellyblast and @flaquita For what it’s worth. Since the last time I lost a post (in November) I’ve started to use two windows side by side— one with the forum postings on it and the other a Word document. I write my post first in the Word doc and then paste it over to the forum. I’ve started to keep my posts for each month in a single Word doc and it seems as though these doc’s are becoming a type of progress diary that I can consult more easily than the one in my profile on the website. I think that someone else in this forum mentioned doing this and it’s only taken me months and months to follow through. Oh well, better late than never!

    Day 6 Oregon FD
I’m not doing well at posting in the mornings, or catching up with posts and all the kind and welcoming messages, but I did make it through my first fast day, whew:). MFP has me at 683 calories for the day and since I was trying for 800, I’m happy! Early outdoor run was derailed by stormy weather, but I logged 30 minutes on the treadmill at my gym followed by a nice hour of yoga. I extended my fasting window again to 20 hours so all in all I’m pleased:). I have to say I’m feeling a bit hungry right now, but I’m heading to bed and I hope I can just ignore the feeling and fall asleep. 🤞😴 next fast day I’m going to tackle getting myself on the powerful pocket list:) but for today I’m just grateful to have found this forum and WOL. 🙏

    Day 7: Gloucestershire, UK, NFD:

Remaining as vigilant as I can over what I eat. Busy days at work, although horrible, help with this….as I have no chance to eat there. I’m hoping, however, that today will be a lot easier than yesterday, which was as bad as at Christmas Pressure. I still haven’t fully prepped up the four leaflets that have to be delivered to every house this week.
@binklebonk: Don’t worry…everyone slips up. I’m the worst! Just have the attitude of @ccco: That tomorrow (in your case, Thursday) is another day, and plan to try again.
@flaquita: Yes, I too have lost posts. As @bellyblast says sometimes you’ve been logged out and haven’t noticed. Also beware when editing…I’ve often lost posts that way. I saved the day once by going into “history”…..copying and pasting it back on! Also @matpi: has a good plan…so, as you see….it happens to lots of us!

Must get ready for work now.
    Bye xx

    Day 7 – Ireland 🇮🇪 – FD (egg fast)

Just to shake it up for one day only I am doing an egg fast. I have been craving eggs recently so will give this a shot, get ketones started, then back to an FD tomorrow. It’s 4:3 this week with a CD on Friday. I have to get moving!

@flourbaby you mentioned the 3 year stall/itch with this WOL and I know exactly what you mean. I was relatively vigilant last year yet still plateau and a couple of gains …but I will never give up or lose weight. I am still healthy and look OK in my clothes (although I was a bit (a LOT) bloated after the holiday season.

@songbirdme yes, we have Women’s Christmas on the 6th Jan, however, it was never really observed where I am from (I am originally from Dublin so city values over more traditional ones perhaps??), but I believe that it’s a great idea indeed!!!

All those having problems with posts…….completely empathise there. Around this time every month they log you out of the forum and you have to log back in if you want to post. Check your status now as it will save losing a post. I also copy my post before I submit. And I long ago gave up trying to edit a post 🙄

Pocket list Day 7 – together we are stronger 👍
    @daffodil2010

    2nd post
Argh, this autocorrect got me…..I meant I will never give up and lose hope….I sure hope I wil lose weight!!!!!!

    Day 7 – Cumbria UK – CD

    Good morning everyone

Incredibly mild weather, hard to believe it’s January, the only thing with being mild, it’s wet! However, dry at the moment so will get out early for a march.
Want to try and get the graph on the tracker travelling downwards again before the end of the month, but as we know sometimes the line refuses to budge, as long as it doesn’t go upwards!

@suki2 – I keep passing dog walkers when I’m out on my MOAM walks, sometimes 2 or three times, I’m marching out, they’re being slowed down by their pets! It was suggested I get a dog (always had one until a few years ago) or borrow one. But I don’t like dawdling along so slowly, I prefer a march!

@songbirdme – Can’t beat being outside, fresh air and daylight, even when it’s gloomy.

@ciren2 – you’re not wrong about the ‘lost’ posts!

    Take care all

    Day 7 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – FD

@angrypony – congrats on making it through your first FD, you’re doing great! Some people do find bedtime hunger a problem at first; or even disrupted sleep. I usually ‘save’ a hundred calories for a hot bedtime drink. Now I sometimes sleep even better after a FD. Our bodies use a huge amount of energy to digest food, so you may find you don’t actually need as much sleep as usual.

@flaquita – disappearing posts, so annoying! I write mine out in Samsung notes on my phone. Then I email it to myself before I copy/paste it on my laptop.

@daffodil2010 – good luck with the egg fast. I’m sticking with my oatmeal FDs for now.

    Pocket List – Day 7 🍏 – together we are stronger👍

    Day 7 – CD – Ireland
Good FD for me yesterday….and I am on the downward path…. -2lbs although I know this Is typical day after FD but is an incentive for more good FDs. It’s the first real FD I’ve nailed in many months. 👍.
I was at the doctor yesterday and on antibiotic so didn’t feel like eating much which helped with fasting…
Thanks @songbirdme, I have an auto immune condition which left scarring on my lungs so they don’t perform as well as they should… this is a chest infection but the antibiotic seems To be doing it’s job already although I don’t like taking them and feel quite wiped… hopefully will be right soon 🤞
I have many friends who celebrate Nollaig na mBan but i don’t as am generally working (and also I have never had to produce the Christmas dinner 🤭). It’s a lovely tradition but times are changing and more men I know are the main chefs/cooks/bakers in the home including my brother who finds it very relaxing…)
Have a great day everyone 💪
    Onward and downward ⬇️
We rise by lifting others 💕

Day 7 – Atlanta. Ga – USA- FD

Day 7, London, UK, FD…………………………. Yay!!!!!!!

My first FD for 2020, Phew!!! To the newbies out there, THIS will be you soon enough, desperately looking forwards to a FD!!!

I can’t say I’m glad to be back at work after 2 weeks off (although I was ill for 1 of them) but since my fasting muscle is a bit weak at the moment, I’m taking the easy route and fasting at work is a doddle!!! Soup to break my fast at 2-3pm then home to the 30 day shred and another soup for dinner. That should make for a good FD!!

It’s bright, sunny and ……………………. Dry, here today, it feels very Spring-like, no doubt there’ll be 6 inches of snow next week and the country will grind to a halt ………………………….. except for those hardy posties like @ciren2!!!!!

@flaquita, my current Word document is 430 pages long!! Perhaps I should have made them monthly like @matpi!!!! Doh!!!!

Michael Boyle “Most people give up right before the big break comes — don’t let that person be you.”

    Day 7 – NFD – Darlington UK

Good morning everyone hope you are all well.

I came in at 712 cals on my FD yesterday and was ok with that. Sensible eating today and tomorrow and see how I go.

    Karen

    Day 7UK NFD

Feels good to have successfully completed yesterday’s first fast of the year , although I had a terrible nights sleep so might need to do some research if it happens again.

Like the idea of weighing in just once a week after 2nd fast so adopting that this week

    Day 7 Melb Aust, TDEE

Have been enjoying getting back into the routine of eating sensibly post Christmas. Although I’ve not yet achieved a proper FD, have lost 0.6 kg in the past week, which is pleasing.

Yes, the bushfires here have been terrible. Lots of people praying for rain, and God’s mercy on our land. I live on the northern outskirts of Melbourne, and we even had a “watch and act” alert because of a fire in a small national park 5-10 kms away. Some people living closer had to evacuate for several hours while the fire was got under control; at my distance, you could see and smell the smoke, but didn’t have to move out. Not like several of the coastal tourist towns, where convoys of cars of visitors have been evacuated out led and escorted by police cars, and one town where visitors and residents had to stay on the beach for 3-4 days, before the navy was able to come and evacuate them. It was the largest ever evacuation by the navy in Australia’s history, 1100 or so first, then later another 280 or so people. Frail older folk and some children were taken out by air (helicopter). Apart from some loss of life, the property, livestock and land loss has been horrific, and the loss of native flora and fauna a deep grief.

Okay, enough sadness. In the midst of it, the support from people within and outside the country has been amazing and very encouraging – a big thank you to everyone who has cared.

@ciren2, speaking of encouragement, I have been so encouraged to read of your gradual progress towards 5:2 again, and am really looking forward to reading of a few kgs DOWN!

Lots of newcomers here – I’m joining the chorus that say – better to bin it than eat it. Onward we go, downwards.

@ciren2 ….. and fellow walkers may be interested.

You mentioned in one of your posts that you were surprised that your step count for the day was 31000.

As you know I do walk a lot, I’m not surprised you knock off that amount if you’re walking most of the day!

I have two types of walks – firstly MOAM these tend to be my shorter walks round the village, I walk very fast on these walks, hence people comment, Man on a mission. Between 30 mins and an hour. Generally works out at around 7500 steps per hour and burn up between 550 and 600 calories per hour (depends on which hill I tackle)

The second are my longer walks, minimum of 2 hours these are slower paced due to the distances involved. Generally works out at around 6000 to 6500 steps per hour and burn up between 470 to 500 calories per hour.

Interestingly there is very little difference in time recorded as fat burning over any of the walks, I would have thought the short sharp marches might have burned more, but no difference.

    Hope this makes sense.

    Day 7 Canton OH FD

All of my hard work and restraint finally showed up on the scales! I could see signs of progress in the mirror, and the scales confirmed it – 4 pounds down from last week – Woohoo #winning!!!

@dyskask your cerebral approach to fasting and weight loss always blows my mind. Hats off to you sire!

@matpi I put away all the Christmas decorations before my birthday. So it all comes down by the 4th; otherwise life gets in the way and it could potentially stay up till the spring. No kidding, that has happened before – never again. I also do the same thing you do, word document and forum posts side by side. I used to delete the word document but what I have decided to do is follow your example and save them to refer to when I need a boost – kinda like a daily log

@songbirdme women’s Christmas? First time I am hearing of this. I need to investigate

@daffodil LOL thanks for putting a smile on my face this morning – I will never give up or lose weight – I was thinking that has got to be a mistake!

@betsylee so much sadness and loss. So thankful for the helpers and encouragers – it is always darkest before the dawn. It is well and it will be well

No pocket list to add to, so I am starting one

    Day 7 Canada NFD

Had an easy fast day yesterday with some yoga and a gym workout. Today I’m heading out for a long cross country ski, being out in nature makes me happy and I find it so easy to get lots of exercise in.

@basyjames that was a nice birthday present, patience is rewarded with this WOL, you must be thrilled with your loss!
@i-hate-lettuce that is a very impressive amount of walking. Walking seems to be getting lots of talk about how much of a great fitness/health benefit it is. That makes you super healthy! I love walking as well
@betsylee getting into a rhythm is so important, you are set for success
@flourbaby I look forward to FD’s as well. The light feeling and satisfaction that I have control is the best. Also love soup as my FD meals
@jaifaim glad your FD was a success
@ciren2 hope your day isn’t as relentless as it has been, you are overdue for a break. But oh those steps are impressive!!!
    @angrypony hi five to you!
@ccco good luck to you today

    Day 7 – UK – CD

Managed to complete my 2nd FD for this January Challenge yesterday coming in at under 500cals for the day! And I’m determined that today will be a CD……..

Yesterday’s pocket list was a good one – hopefully we all came through OK

Just taken a maple syrup and apple cake out of the oven for tomorrow’s afternoon for the club I volunteer at – it will be the first get together after the festive season and we have planned an afternoon tea for a catch up and chat. I will do the cheese frosting for it a bit later when I return home from my high impact pilates class.

@suki2 – I was the same as you over the weekend 🤞you managed your FD too
@cristyb – you are in a positive zone – keep going
@rabbette – I was getting a bit worried not seeing you posting……great to “see you” Do hope your poor cat is doing better x
@binklebonk – the great thing about this WOL is that there is always tomorrow for a FD and anything below 800cals can be counted as a FD and depending on your TDEE anything below 1200cals is a CD 😊
@flaquita – 👍 with your FD800 – I always copy my post before I press the submit button so I can always reopen the page, log in again and then copy and paste……seems to work!
@ciren2 – we have been having some wet days here and I feel sorry for our post person – hope you are staying fairly dry on those long shifts out delivering the mail…..
@ccco – just saw your post – as you say tomorrow is another opportunity for a FD
@angrypony – Great job on your first FD!!
@daffodil2010 – sending positive vibes your way for a downward trend!
@basyjames – great start to the challenge 4lbs dispatched! and especially since it involved a birthday too…..

Going to see Andrew Scott (BBC’s Sherlock, Fleabag) in Noël Coward’s provocative comedy Present Laughter this evening with some from my Bookclub. It has got some great reviews and should be a good laugh.

Right going off to get ready for my HIP (high impact pilates) class with OH – it’s very windy and wet out there……but it’s only about 10 mins walk from my house to the hall ☔️

For anyone struggling at the moment – this is for you 🤗
    DON’T EVER GIVE UP.
Don’t let frustration knock you down.
DON’T LET FEAR STAND IN YOUR WAY.
Don’t let time get in your head.
WHO CARES HOW LONG IT TAKES OR HOW MANY TIMES YOU TRY.
    Your only competition is yourself.
WHEN YOU FINALLY SUCCEED, THE STRUGGLE WILL ALL BE WORTH IT.

    USA Day 7 CD

I am trying to teach myself a healthy way of life, so when I am in maintenance, I will have a healthy sustainable diet to live my life on. I thought making good habits while losing will help me do that but for it to be sustainable for me, there must be a place for foods I also enjoy (but not overindulge).

    Joining pocket list. Day 7

Betsylee,, I was glad to see on the news last night that American firefighters are flying to Australia to help!

I was trying to find the post about th 31,000 steps from yesterday but couldn’t find it. Anyway, back in the day when I still could run, I easily pulled in 30,000 steps in just the one run! It is doable!

I love the women’s Christmas in Ireland. I had never heard of that before but perhaps because we were city people, but I did share that with my daughter.

I have seen some of you recently made some significant losses and I congratulate you all! Have a great day! 🙂

    Day 7 USA (Illinois) NFD

Yesterday turned into about 1000 calories — and good scale results this morning. “Unplanned CD” works too.

@karen250463 – every time I see your “Darlington” it reminds me of a Wisconsin town just up the road from here. I didn’t know there was one in UK until you. http://www.darlingtonwi.org/

@flourbaby – I’m right with you with soup on FD’s, especially in the winter. Most FD’s I am cold. Cold hands, cold feet, cold body. Soup does help.

@betsylee — sending prayers for all of Australia. Oh so sad.

@ccco – learning 5:2 now in preparation for maintenance is good. You’re doing well!

    Onward and downward.

Songbirdme Darlington is in the County of Durham in the North East of England. We are a Quaker town and the first passenger railway was from here in 1825.

    Karen

    @i-hate-lettuce:
Interesting points from you on steps. It was a light day at work today, so I tried to test my step counter to see what was going on with it. One thing it does is count “steps” at times while I’m driving, even though it’s sitting by itself on the passenger seat!
So, today, I reset it to zero every time I got out of the van to deliver streets. A hassle, but I think it gave more realistic readings. I think my total round averages around 18,000 steps that way….but it’s a bit rough and ready!
I usually spend about four hours walking in total, and then bits in and out of the van. My stride length will certainly be shorter than yours however! So, I don’t know…
In the old days we used to reckon on a typical round being 10 to 12 miles, but we also used bikes in those days, so not all walking.
@daffodil2010: Let us know how you get on with egg-fasting…this interests me a lot.
@betsylee: It is such a terrible thing about the bush fires, all that wildlife killed, and just generally the severity of it all. It must be heartbreaking. DD says it’s been a bit smokey where she is to the east of Melbourne. People with asthma must be in some jeopardy. Lets all pray for rain…lots of it…for Australia. xx

    Day 7 – USA – NFD

@karen250463, welcome and what a small world we live in! When I lived in Ireland in the early 70s, I dated a young man from the Clapham family who lived in Darlington, Co. Durham! He is not living there now, but I always remembered how quaint his town seemed!

    Day 7(?) (I’m losing count – getting confused by everyone’s different time zones…) – NZ – NFD

@at – thanks for your post – this group is very encouraging and non-judgey, which is so helpful. You’re quite right – I can get back on the horse. I will try again Thursday and give it a good go.

Yesterday – I had a diet shake and a milky coffee during the day and felt fine – didn’t feel like anything after the morning coffee til nearly midday. Then went to dinner with some friends and had pasta with salmon. Probably not the best choice, but I couldn’t actually finish it all. Then I had about 4 peanut butter pretzels, which I thought was terrible, but I’ve just looked and they’re about 140cals for 10, so now I don’t feel so bad.
I’ll aim to eat in a similar way today (but way less carby!) and then a proper FD Thursday…

I watched a video about a place that rescues burnt koalas and it made me want to cry – it’s so awful! We’re very lucky in NZ…

Metatauta yes it’s a very small world isnt it 🙂

I suppose alot of towns in the UK are quaint and most of us have alot of history too and we are very proud of it. I’d love to visit the States and for years wrote to a lady in North Carolina which was really interesting!

    Day 6, UK, FD
    Day 7, UK, NFD

Didn’t get a chance to post yesterday because gor really busy with work, but fasted successfully, had between 500-600cal which I’m happy with 🙂 .
I decided to fast in the range between 500-600cal, because I found that I get tense during the day, fasting, when I get close to 500cal and it usually gets counter-productive. Lets see if this works.

@flaquita we all had dissapearing posts, it happens here. The best thing to do is select all and copy before you press “send” button, so if it disappears you don’t have to type again, just paste it. Saved so many of my posts 🙂

@daffodil2010 I read your first autocorrected post and got really confused thinking “she will never lose weight?? 🤔 ” than I read the second one haha 😂

Have a good evening everyone 🌼

Day 7 Ohio, US — NFD

The NFD has gone well, and boy! Am I tired! Today was the first day of a Polish course I’m taking and it was an hour and a half of intensive work, all in the target language and it was very tiring! When I got home I slept for about an hour. I hadn’t realized how much fatigue load there was involved with each class. That could explain why in the Fall I tended to make not quite so stellar food choices on days when I had class.

@ciren2 For a very long time my walking target was 10K steps. But during December I came to realize that doing that every day may have been contributing to heel spurs acting up. When I read MM’s article on the “Active 10” plan, I shifted to doing that and the heel pain has gone way down. Last year I started to use a new brand of walking shoe and I’m beginning to wonder if it just doesn’t give enough support around the heel. So I may go back to the old brand. Of course you have to walk a lot with your job, so I don’t know if this is relevant at all.

Patient endurance attains to all things!

Do any of you NOT hate fasting blood tests any more? I have my annual blood draw tomorrow morning, and 12 hours of fast is no big deal any more!

    🙂

    Day 7 Oregon CD
Well here it is nearly 10 p.m. and I didn’t get caught up on reading posts, nor did I get on the forum this morning. I probably won’t tomorrow as I’m working in the office tomorrow. Usually I work from home, so I’ve just spent a bit of time freaking out about what to wear…usually I’m in fleece but that isn’t welcomed in the office:).
I had a controlled day today, just 150 above a fast800, far below my TDEE, as well as a 20 hour fasting window, so I’m counting this day as a positive! 5k walk this morning @Ihatelettuce, I tried to make it a “man on a mission” style walk:) then Pilates class at my gym. Will try for a control day again tomorrow, hopefully easy as there’s a nice salad bar at our facility. Good luck in advance to all the Wednesday fasters!

    Day 8 – Ireland 🇮🇪 – FD

Yesterday’s egg fast went well except I had a very bad dose of funny tummy later and spent some time in the loo (apologies for TMI so early in the day). I was feeling a bit strange yesterday so hopefully I am, ahem, clearing and cleansing myself out 😉

Another 500 cal FD today, small Oatbran bread sandwhich for lunch and a 250cal chowder for dinner.

@i-hate-lettuce I think you have started a trend and perhaps a new acronym to our list? MOAM….well, I did that today on my early morning 20 minute walk in the village (usually I am a tad slower but was inspired). I don’t believe walking helps much with loss of weight but it’s great to get limbs moving and fresh air in the lungs. I love it.

@ciren2 when I used to have a FitBit it was great fun wearing it on the motorbike here on the Irish bumpy roads….it would record thousands of extra steps and I would be on top of the leaderboard of my FitBit group!! 👍 Cheating….?? Well…….😄

    Have a great hump day,
    Pocket list day 8
    @daffodil2010

    Day 8 – FD? – Ireland
This antibiotic is making me feel pretty wiped and feeling very bleurgh 😷 so I’m not sure a FD is a good idea but will see how I go…
Funny you should say that about fasting blood tests @songbirdme i was just thinking that recently as I have a colleague who always finds it really difficult and literally can’t manage if they are not scheduled for very first thing in the morning… one more benefit to this WOL 🤗
@i-hate-lettuce WOAM is my default walk style but sometimes like a stroll or gentle hike… do find i have to slow myself down though at the outset.. Enjoy yours today… 🚶‍♂️
@angrypony don’t worry about missing a day to post or catching up on posts… it can be stressful at times feeling the need to catch up and post etc and particularly as it’s a busy spot this month… come on whenever you can and post as little or as much as you like…👍
@binklebonk the time zones are confusing for sure but the day is Calendar date so wherever you are today will be Day 8 as it is 8 January 👍

    Day 8 – Cumbria UK – FD

    Good morning everyone

Shower dodging again yesterday, only short walking, but still got out. Realised yesterday that due to weather, walking is the only workout I’m getting at the moment! The garden is out of bounds, as its too wet, not a lot of growth and I did all the tidying up in Autumn. Although there is a large shrub that’s going to get removed, that’ll be a challenge!

Man treat …. Made some home made pasties yesterday, instead of pastry, made them with bread dough! Filled with potato, leek and onion which was cooked in stock and allowed to cool. Rolled out bread dough put filling in and baked. A ‘Hairy Bikers’ recipe from the Hairy Dieters books and only 230 calories per pasty!

@bellyblast – Read that you were heading out for a ‘long cross country ski’ yesterday, now that is something I have always thought would be great fun, possibly hard work to perfect the technique, but still looks fun. Have watched folk an odd time when in Norway during winter and the trails they follow just seem fabulous!

@songbirdme – I’m due my annual review and actually looking forward to it! Around a stone and half down on last year, but didn’t start 5:2 WOL until end of July!

@daffodil2010 – Anything that burns calories has to help with weight loss, a lot of current research is pushing short fast walks (20 to 30 mins x 2 or 3 times a day) as a way of burning calories. My short blast up the village and hill is around 300 calories for half hour. My 5:2 week starts on Friday, the last 5 days I’ve burned off 3905 calories on my walks so far this week. Glad you’re getting out though and @jaifaim and others, it can only be doing us good!

    Take care all

    Day 8 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD

Another good FD concluded, but no movement on the scales. But I know I’m not moving enough either. It’s been very hot and humid here since I got home. The last thing you want to do in this heat is hit the gym! But I will; just need to get my head in the right place. Until then it’s ADF…

    Happy Hump Day! 🐫

    Day 8. NFD London.

Well, here I go. 6 weeks in Italy. I’ll be hanging on by the seat of my pants. Wish me luck. If I come back about the same weight I’ll be happy. I don’t like pasta anymore and I’ve never been a pizza fan but there is this place in Testaccio market which does ciabatta filled with offal stews which are amazing. I know that sounds vile to some people but trust me. They are. I’ll try to post to stay accountable.

    Day 8, London, UK, FD

Another FD today, yesterday went slightly off piste, with a handful of cashew nuts, so I guess I’m gently easing myself back into this WOL!!!

@binklebonk, no need to fret, just start your post with reference to the date where YOU are!!! Down there in NZ, you’ll probably be way ahead of us as you’ll be one of the first to see the new day!

@Emma_Taylor, keep 16:8 as your weapon of choice against the gastronomic delights that make Italy so …………….. well, Italian!!!

I’ve a 1pm meeting today, so I guess it might be OMAD today, I’ll need to drown the dragon as I can’t have him roaring mid-meeting!!!! The embarrassment!!!!

I wish I had a camel to offer you!!!!

    Day 7: Gloucestershire, UK, NFD:

Day off today….so dental checkup, dog walk….all done so far. I DO eat (much) more on my days off simply because I have more time!
@binklebonk: Yes, as @flourbaby says…day is the same as the date.

Have a great day everyone xx

    Day8 UK FD

@ciren2 very impressive walking stats ! I do try to keep up with 10k + daily average but find it difficult at this time of year when it’s so wet and miserable 🌫

Always wondered how some of you managed those long detailed posts ( which I love reading) just because I post on my phone assumed everyone did the same Might have to get a pen and paper and make notes one day

Day 8- Atlanta, Ga- USA – FD

Yesterday’s NFD went very well. I stayed below my TDEE and stayed away from the carbs and sugars. I had a sensible dinner too. I’ve planned out all of my meals for the week and I think that helps me stay on track. I hope everyone is enjoying they’re day.

@i-hate-lettuce — My physical after my 35 pound weight loss was really funny. The nurse put me on the scale, went to the chart, then made me get back on it (as if she didn’t see the number right!) so I looked forward to that one 3 years ago too!

    Day 8 Canton OH NFD

I am looking forward to my first NFD of the week. I made a chaffle breakfast sandwich which I am looking forward to enjoying in a little bit, once I hit my eating window.

@songbirdme Fasting blood tests are a breeze now LOL, I remember when they used to strike me with terror. How adaptable is the human body?

@Emmataylor safe travels, don’t obsess too much and try to enjoy yourself. 16:8 has been shown to be a very effective way of staying on track.
A European tour is on my bucket list and Italy will be a must stop for me when we get around to it

Some once said this (can’t remember who) Fasting may not win every battle but it is winning the war!

    Have a great day everyone.

    Day 8 Oxfordshire, UK FD
    Day 7 NFD
Yesterday started well but then it was monthly book club meeting and the buffet supper although tasty was not great for calories. Had a bad night’s sleep too.
So today is another day. Broke my fast around 1pm today with boiled egg and toast and marmite. I’m trying a new calorie tracking app my DH recommended because it also tracks vitamins and minerals in more details than others I’ve used. It’s called Cronometer. I’m only using the free element, but if you pay you can set it for fasting and TRE. It’s making me be more accurate about what I’m putting in because on my old app I could just enter store meals id had previously. Not sure it’s helping yet though.
@i hate lettuce – I’m fortunate enough to be able to walk our dog off the lead in our local area, so I can get marching. At the moment I’m averaging 336 cals. an hour (5.6 cals a min) so my aim is to increase to 6 cals per min which hopefully will help. This would equate to around 6500 steps over an hour.
@at thanks for thinking of me on my fast day, both Monday and today went/going well. It’s the NFDs I really must get to grips with this week.
@i hate lettuce – DH & I use Hairy Dieters recipes a lot. Although not a fan of pasties myself, I find their recipes are all very tasty and help keep me on the straight and narrow.

    Day 8 Canada NFD

Slowly shrinking! I am a slow loser and have also been focussing on health and making all things a lasting WOL. The not drinking really improves my sleep which is so important to feeling well, 10 hours last night 🙂 I am also exercising and practising yoga daily, combined with eating well it is all working a treat.

@at your cake sounds amazing, I love to cook and am getting better at making and then not devouring the product. It is a windy day here today so it might be a gym visit for me
@ccco the healthy way of life means changing some old habits so I’m going for progress not perfection, good luck making those changes
@ciren2 you do loads of steps regardless of the count
@mapti mental fatigue is real, how good for your brain must it be though
@songbirdme I have had 5 surgeries since 2017 and so many fasting blood tests, I have to contain my smile when others in the waiting area are groaning about being hungry as it sure isn’t a problem for me
@jaifaim hope you bounce back to full health soon
@i-hate-lettuce xc skiing is fantastic, definitely technical which I really love. Always something to learn. Would love to ski in Norway, that is a sport that the country all love and is so popular…..one day. Well I imagine you are going to get a gold star at your review
@emmataylor I think the ciabatta sounds amazing, I am a big fan of Italian food. Have a great trip

    USA Day 8 NFD

Yes, Bellyblast, making and keeping good habits is hard. Even though I wrote out today’s meal plans, I already faltered, so I readjusted the plan to reflect the mistake and still will be able to come up with the same calorie count.

Hope everyone is doing well! It is so very cold and windy hear, so I am snuggling up and staying warm. At least some of yesterday’s snow has melted!

    Day 7 & 8 – Cork, IE – FD on both days

Hi everyone, I am definitely having a glitches with this platform as I didn’t get any notification emails in the past 36 hours and I was wondering why it was so quiet! I logged out and in again and voila, all the updates have arrived 🙂

@funshipfreddie, @flourbaby, @ciren2, @matpi, @bellyblast thank you all so much for sharing your experiences and advice on lost posts! I have now started a Word doc and will write everything up before copying across. I really like the idea of it retaining this document as a journal. No more lost musings (for what they are worth) 😀

@rabbette glad you like the idea of the bathroom squats! It’s so simple and effective. It also helps remind me of the cumulative impact of small daily efforts so I don’t get de-motivated if I don’t have instant results.

I am very impressed with myself that I have maintained the 800 limit for the 8 days so far and found it relatively easy. I have no problems with the TRE, it’s just making smart food choices when I have to do the food shopping in the supermarket 🙂 I did have a lovely dinner this evening of hake and vegetable hash browns while before I was much lazier in my food choices. I live alone and it’s a pain to cook every day for one person. While there hasn’t been a significant weight loss on the scales yet, I am feeling slightly more compact in some areas such as my legs and upper waist which I will take as a win. I have some lovely clothes that I am looking forward to getting back into once I lose a stone or so. I am always envious of people who lose 10lbs and drop 2 dress sizes. I literally have to lose 2 stone to drop a dress size as I carry my weight all over. The only benefit of that is that I don’t necessarily look as heavy as I am.

@songbird Women’s Christmas or Nollaig na mBan seems to vary by location in Ireland. I am from Cork County and never celebrated it whereas I know a lot of women in Cork City do celebrate and there are various events held every year to mark it. I lived in Spain for a few years and on the 6th they celebrate Los Reyes, the three wise men. It’s fab to see all the different beliefs and traditions around the same date.

@at how was Andrew Scott last night? He’s a great actor and it sounds like a fun night.

@emma Taylor Enjoy Italy, it sounds amazing.

    My motivation for today :

    “Nothing changes if nothing changes”

    Day 8 USA (Illinois) NFD

Fasting blood test and Silver Sneakers done this morning. All well.

@caroline-esty-akporokah – hope you’re managing to be as judicious as possible about your eating. Check in soon!

@ciren2 – how true: good eating = good weight

@bellyblast – do you feel like your yoga practice helps with weight loss?

    @angrypony – how’re you managing?

@matpi – any type of foot pain is indeed a pain! I have had heel spurs and plantar fasciitis, neither of which I felt like were any of my own doing. Well, maybe walking the stone streets of Rome in not the best shoes for the PF… dunno.

@daffodil2010 – LOVED the story of FitBit success on the bumpy roads of Ireland! (DH & I got FitBits for Christmas). Before that I used SamsungHealth from my phone, and it would register lawn tractor mowing work as a jog!

@funshipfreddie – as frustrating as no scale movement after a FD can be, you know you’re doing the right thing. When I was really trying to lose, I found a 15 minute power walk on a FD seemed to help a lot. Short time, good result.

@binklebonk – after a while you will begin to realize that a NZ or AU post can be the next day while USA might still be on the previous day. That’s all good.

    Onward & downward.

    Hi everyone
    Sorry for not being around.
Been so busy but reading all the posts.
Sorry for not reply to you all individually but am in bed shattered from my FD which was much needed after yesterday’s wine and chocolate!

I have managed to check out at 465 cals today and so far only had liquids since 11 pm last night and it’s now 11.40 pm. I have been so busy at work I find it easy until I get home. Then the challenge begins.

I have not been to the gym today as Saturday FD was hard after a high intensity workout.

I did a 45 spinning class and 35 minutes circuits class which felt great. I can feel my clothers loosening already as I could barely fasten them before going you all.

@songbirdme thanks for the encouragement to check in x

I am trying so hard to be judicious with my food but yesterday I began making naughty choices whilst going over my TDEE. But logging everything is helping me not to pig out. I lost track after the wine and chocolate.

    Day 9 – NZ – NFD
I was totally planning a fast day today, but when I got to work I was absolutely starving. So when I went to get things from the shops, I bought a quinoa and chickpea salad and ate half at about 10am and the other half about 1pm. Felt find in the afternoon, so am about to have a (lightish) dinner – meat and salad.
The quinoa salad didn’t have a calorie count on it (it was a serving from a cafe, not pre-packaged), but it wasn’t oily at all, so I don’t think it would have been too calorie-ridden…
    Maybe I’ve managed a CD at least…
    Sara

    Day 9: Gloucestershire, UK, NFD:

Well, I had a day off work, ate for England….again…and am exactly 1kg heavier this morning.
I was planning to go to work without breakfast in order to extend towards a fast-day, but…..I haven’t. So, another fail!
Before bed I spend time reading Jason Fung’s Diabetes Code book, which SHOULD scare me onto the right path, but by morning….
@bellyblast: You have a good attitude, slow and steady wins the race, and is sustainable.
@binklebonk: At least you managed to save the day….once I go wrong, I think….well, that’s it then, in for a penny, in for a pound!

Better go now, time for work. I heard heavy rain during the night, and now a strong wind is blowing outside.
