  • Day 25 UK FD800

    Quick post.

Weekend was a bit messy. Friday night is my night when I’m allowed carbs so that was OK. Saturday was a fast followed by low carb meals but lots of booze during a bit of online socialising with friends. Sunday was fast and low carb to recover a bit.

First day I’ve felt like not doing the FD800 but I know I need to stick to my plan. Sometimes it’s hard isn’t it?

Good luck all. Stick at it.

Day 25 (wow – hard to believe) US/DC NFD
Quick check-in and shout out to NorthGeorgia – you go girl!!
and here’s a dumb question – what does ZBC stand for?

yesterday’s FD made up for my unending grazing on Saturday, so ever grateful.

hard to believe the month is almost over. Have to admit one thing – I’ll be glad when Dry January is done. Have just started thinking about a glass of wine. Oh dear!

stay well all. MDH got his first vaccine today. I’m still waiting – but happy he got one.

    Day 25 – Rural Nebraska, USA – FD500

After the unfettered eating adventure I had on Saturday, I wasn’t even much hungry yesterday–thankfully!!–so I didn’t eat much at all, and didn’t even drink half of the one beer I opened. Whew! The scale is still ugly this morning (150.8) but I’m sure today’s fast will resolve that.

Big question. What is/are the mental impulse(s) that make us eat in such an out-of-control way, as so many of us did on Saturday? (@nellen, loved your “garbage disposal” image, LOL!) I suspect it’s different for each of us, but I’m quite certain if I could resolve what causes me to overeat on those occasional days, I’d lose weight, because I’m certainly eating to plan on most days.

I once went to a hypnotist, using a coupon I’d bought for something like 90% off, and it was wonderfully effective. I was turned off, however, by the guy’s hard push to get me to buy future sessions and to get me to spend $2000–well, okay, $1500–no? Okay, $1200! Really? Well, I have a special for $1,000! I was so disgusted after ten minutes of his pushiness that I never wanted to go back. A shame, because for the next week, my eating instincts were perfect, and they were even decent for the second week–all at a time when I wasn’t fasting, and was eating way too much on a daily basis. For me, hypnosis worked. But from what I’ve been able to discover on Google, his company is the only option for hypnosis. If he simply hadn’t pushed so hard, and had said, “We’re here any time you want to come back,” I’d be more willing to do it.

@songbirdme I’ve been thinking your very brief posts recently have sounded discouraged, and now you mention “not losing.” Have you gained? What’s going on?? But! Happy 52nd anniversary!!!!! 💖🎵🎺🍾🌹🥂

@penz Good luck on keeping that new resolve firmly in place! I also did not know about “skein”–I usually use the word to refer to yarn!

@fastingto58kgs Love the image of you drinking coffee while your colleagues are scarfing down huge plates of food; good for you!

@lilymartin Bummer on the dress, but pink slacks with a pretty top sounds like a perfect solution!

@suki2 Glad your MIL is making progress toward returning to her flat, but such a frustration that the hospital lost her hearing aids!

@johnnyr Your comment of “sometimes it’s hard, isn’t it?” is a perfect lead in to one of my favorite quotes posted in this group: It’s going to be hard, but hard is not impossible. Perfect, eh?

It’s snowing, and we’re forecast to get nine or more inches of snow. Somehow, it doesn’t feel the same as Saturday’s snowfall did, and I’m happy to be fasting today. I’ll walk with Leslie, do some tidying and organizing in the basement, perhaps some paperwork in preparation for taxes, and spend the rest of the day warm and snug in my sewing room. I hope you all have lovely and very, very successful days, whatever “success” looks like for you!

    second post

@nellen, you’ll want to rephrase that, as @northgeorgia is a man 😜😁😉 And, ZBC is Zero Breakfast Club. For some of us, we never eat breakfast; others find that skipping breakfast some of the time (all of the time?) helps them control their eating/total calories.

    second post –
@northgeorgia – please forgive. you know, as I wrote that I had a feeling I might be making an error. so of course I was. you go guy!!!

Ah zero breakfast club. that’s pretty much always me, except on the mornings following a fast. I typically eat breakfast, if you call it that, around 11 or sometimes noon. So maybe I just don’t eat breakfast. Coffee – absolutely – that is a must, but no food. In actuality, I am not hungry. AND once I start eating I suddenly become “hungry” so I hold off until I really am.

    Day 25 Minnesota, USA CD

Sorry to have been off for the weekend, but it has been a strange couple of days. I have had a friend and 2 family members getting in touch……long conversations about various problems or issues, and though I tried being as supportive as I can at a distance, it has left me a little exhausted at times. It’s very difficult when there is little to do for someone, except emotional support, when they also need someone there in person. With the Covid situation, I can’t visit. They are out of state.

It seems the stress of this last year with isolation, the stress of the political situation here, and being in the deep of winter is bringing some people to a critical time in their lives.

So much more the reason to attend to our health with good food, exercise, adequate sleep, and as much fun and positivity as we can each of us find. I do try to encourage some of these people to take better care of themselves because each of them have some health issues that I think are contributing to their unhappiness and anxiety. In any case, we are all better prepared for the problems life can throw at us if we are physically healthy.

On a lighter note, and on the subject of hair trimming: my 4 1/2 year old granddaughter sat at DDs kitchen table yesterday with a mirror and a pair of scissors. DD was in the bathroom, DSiL was out shoveling snow, her sister of 8 1/2 was in the living room reading a book. So, she gave herself a haircut. Her hair was to the middle of her back before she started. The pictures I received show a few straggles still long in back, but otherwise various layers and lengths everywhere……some areas only an inch or less (2cm?) from her scalp. DD was quite upset. I was chuckling, though, as it was something DD and DS, both, had put me through when they were children. Seems like a common event in the lives of children.
DD managed to give her a pixie-type cut that at first glance looks pretty. It won’t bear close inspection though. She is lucky they’re classes are still distance learning. That did take all afternoon, so no patio time with them yesterday.

@stitchincarol Enjoy your snowstorm today……if you start feeling the need to nibble, maybe roast some vegetables with drizzles of olive oil, make some veg soup, or something warm but not too dense calorie-wise to see you through it. Glad it is staying down there with you, this time.

Be back later to post a bit more.

Day 25 North Canton OH WFD 3

I am working in the office today so no reason why I cannot complete a water fast, therefore I am going for one.

@northerndawn I can certainly relate. Multiple people in my orbit have been dealing with additional stressors and stresses, and the feeling of isolation makes it worse- I think. What a delightful horror story about your granddaughter’s haircut. My youngest did something similar when she was six, but not as drastic- she tried to give herself bangs but after the first scissor-snip got cold feet. I had their hair in braids all the time when they were that young and I remember vaguely wondering why she had an almost bald spot so close to her hairline. She fessed up a few years later, and was able to laugh about it. This will be quite the tale to laugh at in your family for the next little while 🤣😂😂🤣

@johnnyr it is difficult to stick to plan sometimes but I have noticed the toughest FD usually produce the best results. So I will echo what you said, stick with it buddy.

@northgeorgia I am so happy for you, and I celebrate your progress. Good times they are a-coming my friend

@suki2 great to see your post and you

@lilymartin that MasterChef challenge sounds like so much fun

    @fastingto58kgs polish that halo!

@penz thanks for the suggestions, I am loving the moniker Fab Fasters in February!!!

    Day 25 USA (Illinois) NFD

Off to brunch shortly to celebrate our 52nd. Oh yes, we were but children. DH and I were seniors at University of Illinois and decided to marry at semester break so our grades would go up living together. They did. I got thru with my BS in 3 years – he’s a year older. We actually decided not to chance the weather due here for 7-12″ of snow this afternoon and tomorrow. Maybe I will have to cook our own celebratory dinner with wine! Hmm, do we get some champagne. Maybe.

@stitchincarol – you could have kept the snow out west! Ha ha! Actually, I’m doing fine, a bit over what I like for my maintenance, but will get back to more ‘normal’ with a FD or two. Thanks for caring about me. <3

@i-hate-lettuce – I also picked up on the new words for geese! My favorites are the murder of crows and congress of baboons (especially in light of our own Congress!) although there are many others I enjoy.

@northerndawn – I always love reading about kiddos and ‘self’ or sibling haircuts! Been there, done that in our family too. Aren’t they fun?!

    Onward and downward.

    Great quote @stitchincarol

Most of this battle is in the mind. And anyone who blames themselves for their weight needs to remember that willpower is finite, sugar is addictive and the sugar and processed food industry know these things better than we do. That odd sugary snack that leads to floodgates opening is no mistake – it’s by design. So we need to be kind to ourselves if we falter and hop back on the wagon asap.

    2nd Post

@i-hate-lettuce I’m so glad Mrs. IHL is doing well after her surgery! You both sound like amazingly positive people, and I’m so glad to “know” you! Your determination to take lemons and make lemonade is so very inspirational; and I truly mean that from the bottom to top of my heart. xxx

@songbirdme 52 years of marriage is an amazing accomplishment. I hope you enjoy your day, and also, I hope you don’t get overly snowed in. But, hmmm, maybe you can make the most of it for your anniversary? Snuggle down and find the next great Netflix show for the rest of us. I’d order the champagne….why not?

@basyjames I really appreciate your support….it was a trying three days that as I got done with one conversation, another person would call or FT. You are lucky one of your girls didn’t decide to just saw off a braid or two! That would have been close to what was the end result of little DGDs hair style. She told her mom it was “Beautiful” and didn’t want it fixed. 🤣. I’m also loving the “Fab Fasters” moniker! Yay @penz!

    3rd Post

You are exactly right, @johnnyr My DH and I once watched a 60 Minutes TV program (in US) where they interviewed a food scientist whose job it was to find “Addictive” flavors to add to any and all foods the company he worked for sold. They even went so far, if I remember, to do PET scans of people’s brains to see the reaction in the addiction centers.

I think our only defense against such measures is to try to eat mostly whole, natural foods. But those processed goodies do call to me, sometimes.
So, not to feel guilty, but just get back on the healthy foods wagon, is the best thing, I think. Too much guilt leads to emotional eating, and the feeling of helplessness and hopelessness. We shall overcome!

    Day 26 (what!!! Already!!!) OMAD

Just popping in to say hello. I love the hairdressing stories. When we were kids, my sister and I were close friends with sisters the same age as us. Long hair was a big thing in their family, and one day Helen and I decided to play at hairdressers. I managed to lop one of my friends long plaits off before her mum found us. I don’t actually remember doing it, but I don’t think I was very popular with her mum for a while. But I still think it’s really funny.

OMAD is a bit elastic at the moment. Hold me on tight please. I’m struggling.

    Day 26, OMAD, Australia

Hang on, @EmmaTaylor, I’m doing OMAD today!!!

4th Post 7:54 pm (my time) MN, US

@emma-taylor – yes, hold on, please!…stay with us! Hold on tight to us, and we will hold on tight to you!! We love your travel stories. We love your no nonsense posts. We love your honest posts about some of the challenges that you have gone through! It inspires people, lady!!

    Day 26 – Ireland 🇮🇪 – FD

Holding on tight today too, with @EmmaTaylor and @penz, think it will be an OMAD or maybe my first LFD in years.

Reason being my tum is not right. I am bloated, gassy, achy guts, and my skin is extremely dry and blotches like eczema on my torso. I have been eating a good few avacado’s recently, trying to get healthy fats, however as I have gone from zero a week to nearly three or four a week I have noticed that I feel progressively blah each time.

I am allergic to latex and just read now that avacado’s are related to the latex tree 😱 So I am cutting that food source tout suite!!!!

And because my tum isn’t right I don’t FEEL like eating so will take the day with lots of anti-histamine green tea, ginger, mint, and see how I am this evening.

Far from avacado’s this Irish girl was reared 😀

    Day 26 UK NFD

Oh dear @daffodil2010 that doesn’t sound very nice Hope it’s a short term ailment 🥑

Looks like I forgot to post yesterday ? I’m sure I read all the posts but think I got distracted …anyway good FD yesterday aiming for a steady week and press that trusty old reset button for February

@missybear I’ve never dared cut my own hair but needs must – I swing between terror and a “it’s only hair it’ll grow back “ attitude Do let us know how it went

Day 26 – Lake District UK – NFD

    Good morning everyone

@daffodil2010 – Take it easy, certainly sounds like you’ve had a reaction, hopefully a day of two will sort you out. Every cloud and all that, only a few days to end of month, you could use this to your advantage (but more important, hope it clears up quickly)

@northerndawn – Thanks for your comments, you’re right about us being positive, those who know us well would say ‘stubborn or bloody minded more like’ 😉
Think it’s just we’re both fighters who just don’t give in.

@songbirdme – Congress of Baboons … Yup a laugh out loud moment, thank you. Congratulations on your 52 years, we’re novices by comparison with only 40 so far. Someone from the village recently saw us out walking, holding hands and commented on it, ‘Yup’, I said…. ‘it stops us from hitting each other’ or the other answer is ‘I keep the other hand on my wallet.’

Funny how people react to us ‘older persons’ holding hand etc. But quite a few years ago when son was teenager and brought a girlfriend home, we were all watching a film on tv. Mrs I-H-L, myself, son and his girlfriend plus our younger daughter.
Well they were on the settee and all you could hear was ‘slurpy kisses’ during each set of adverts. Little sis was sat as far away from them on the other end settee as she could get, pulling faces each time.
We could see it was a bit uncomfortable for her, so near the end of the film, adverts came on so Mrs I-H-L came over to my armchair, sat on my lap and had a good old ‘snog’ with moaning and suitable noises, rubbing her hand through my hair (try that now!) When we came up for air, son and GF were wide eyed and embarrassed, daughter killing herself laughing as she knew what we were up to. They were a little less ‘hands on’ after that.

    Take care all

    Day 26 – USA/GA – NFD

Storms woke me up at 2:30 am and I think I finally sorta went back to sleep at 4 before getting up at 6:30. Despite that, yesterday’s FD went well and today’s weight in was 228.2 lbs. Tomorrow is my last planned FD of the week/month, so maybe the results on Thursday will prove fruitful!

Gotta run. Best wishes to all, today.

    Day 26 UK FD800

Managed to do OMAD for my FD800 yesterday. My weight isn’t really shifting yet but with no snacks and low carb eating on my FD800s surely it will soon. Official weigh-in on Thursday.

    Good luck to all today.

    Day 26, London, UK, FD

I seem to have missed a few days, work has been crazy and dealing with stroppy decorators is a nightmare, but at least the fasting wagon is moving along nicely!!

@basyjames, I’m looking forward to your hosting skills in February, it’s my B’day month, but unlike last year’s weekend at a Spa in Spain, this one will be mid Pandemic, limited contact & in lockdown………………………….. I can think of a pretty good ‘F’ word for the February title, and it ain’t “Fabulous February” 😲😂😝

@ccco, I was wondering whether when not on the golf course, you had a part-time job as a spy!! Celebrate those 3lbs ………………….. just NOT with wine 🍷!!!

@i-hate-lettuce, I see you in that nurses outfit!!! Very fetching, as my mum would say, I hope Mrs IHL is well on the way to recovery!! 🙏 Unfortunately I can also see you and Mrs IHL snogging in the armchair😲!!!! Your sons girlfriend may well have been scarred for life, think teens believe kissing ends in your mid-twenties!!!

@northgeorgia, I find that when I stop recording my daily weight and what I stuff into my mouth, I completely lose the plot and the weight piles on without me really noticing!!! Recording & posting here are key for me.

Yes @johnnyr, I always believed those ‘Thai sweet chilli coated peanuts’ are coated in some illicit highly addictive drug because once the packet is opened it’s handful after handful until they’re gone😱 ……………………… to be honest, it’s the same for Wotsits & winegums😜!!!!

@emma-taylor, hang on in there, we’ve got you🤗!!!

    Keep the faith folks!!!

Can you believe it – Day 26!!! Whoa.
Yesterday I was ready to burst into tears. I have been trying desperately to get an appt. for a vaccine – we live in MD at the DC border. All my friends in DC are vaccinated – me? there is absolutely nothing. It is beyond frustrating.
thanks for letting me vent. But grrrrrrrrr
tonight I have a pasta cooking class – what the heck was I thinking.
so clearly tomorrow will be a FD
    stay well all

    Day 26 USA (Illinois) FD

Snow has inundated us, and it’s still falling. Good day for a FD especially after some indulgences of late. DH is removing some of the snow now so I can keep my birds fed. They just are voracious in a storm!

@i-hate-lettuce – I had to chuckle at you and Mrs. IHL during your film! No wonder your kiddos were enjoying it all. LOVED the “keeps us from hitting each other” and “hand on the wallet” scenarios too! When our kids were home, we always felt like them seeing us kissing reminded them we do still love each other. Even if they did hear us disagreeing!

@nellen – understand your frustration at the vaccine. We’re in the 65+ category and are supposed to be next in our county. Just when we will get it is still up in the air. The state of Illinois is a bureaucratic mess at times.

Likely will post again later on as is my wont on FD’s to keep checking back on our link.

I registered up here in Baltimore, where we are running out of vaccine and some of the sites are not making appointments at this time, until they get more. Governor Hogan is supposed to give a press conference this afternoon at 2 pm on the vaccine. Maybe he can give us some hope, especially since the Brazilian version of the virus has now shown up in the mid-west. I fear the South African version will be here in due time and then we will have everything! I fear like we are under attack like in a war! 🙁

I Hate Lettuce, I love the story about your son and his girlfriend. Neither my son or my daughter ever did that. They were more into making sure we didn’t know what they were up to. Both are happily married now, so I am pleased.

SongBirdMe, we must have been posting at the exact same time, so I made sure we are both on the Pocket List. 🙂

FlourBaby, I think I am too old to be a spy but it would have been an interesting career choice!

Daffodil2010, my skin isn’t doing so well, either. My face has blotchy and bright red. Beside the fact I changed my face cream to which I may be allergic, due to our times, we are spending so much time indoors in dry heat. That can’t be good, either. I didn’t know that avocados are related to the latex tree. Most unfortunate but there is still olive oil! Yum!

Day 26 – Rural Nebraska, USA – NFD

My FD went well yesterday, even with trying something new. It was snowing and not only looked cold, but was cold, and the lack of food made ME cold, so I had my FD soup at four o’clock or so. I was a little worried that by 7 or 8, I’d be hungry again, but I was just fine the rest of the evening, so I may try that again.

@northerndawn, I imagine you were a great deal of help simply by being on the phone with your friends/family for such long stretches. Hopefully they’ll find a way of finding strength and resolution to their issues. As to the haircut, I did that twice as a child, the first time when I was not yet five–and only one week before my eldest sister’s wedding for which I was to be the flower girl. My mom decreed that I looked too awful to be in it; my sister insisted I looked fine, and as the bride, won the day, much against Mom’s best judgment! 🤣😂🤣😂 I DO look quite “shorn” in the photos!

@EmmaTaylor Isn’t it funny how our strength comes and goes? You stay on this wagon by sheer determination, knowing the rest of us are holding you tight, and you’ll soon have your strength back!

@daffodil2010 Who knew that about avocados being related to the latex tree! Hope you feel better quickly!

@i-hate-lettuce What a terrific story!! I’ll enjoy sharing that one, and am still laughing!

@northgeorgia What a GLORIOUS number you had on the scale today!!

@nellen Aww, deep breath, girl, the vaccine will come to you, and just keep taking deep, cleansing breaths to be calm and content as you wait. And a pasta cooking class? Oh my, oh my, but that sounds lovely!!!

@songbirdme How much snow have you gotten? It’s a sunny day for us now, but we’ve somewhere around 10″, give or take a couple…but another inch is forecast for tonight. Gee, it must be winter!

Because the roads are so bad, today’s blood drive is cancelled, so instead of being at the drive from 12:15 to 7:00, I have an unexpected day home. That’s nothing new, staying home, but blood drives are no fun anymore since I have to wear a mask all day long, so I’m excited to have the day off. Back to the sewing room I go!

Day 26 North canton OH NFD-OMAD

I am climbing up on that OMAD wagon as well @EmmaTaylor, see we are all holding each other up here

@flourbaby oooh birthday girl! Ok, the pressure is on, I have to come through now 😁😁

@i hate lettuce I can imagine the look on their faces!!! I can barely keep it together over here.

@nellen there is hope. From what I hear, all hands are on deck now. Hopefully there is more transparency into the process and production will speed up so that everyone that wants a vaccine can get one.

@daffodil2010 that is beyond awful! I also did not know avocados were related to latex; I am not allergic to either but good to know. Intermittent Fasting has been great for my skin though, I have better skin now than I ever did in my 20s or 30s

@ccco this is a war and we are under attack – by a virus. Its a microscopic but deadly adversary that does not care who you are, who you know, or what you think. It needs a host to survive, and it’s survival instincts are stellar, which is why it’s mutating rapidly.

I must confess that like many others I thought a vaccine meant we are in the clear; remember my grand plans to dine out after my second shot? Yeah, I scrapped them really fast. After all the sacrifices I have made thus far, no meal is worth the ramifications of getting sick or getting others sick this late in the game XO

I’ve been reading along but traveling over the past few days, so haven’t had a chance to post an update here. It’s such a rare treat to get out of one’s own corner of the world these days!

Yesterday morning, on return, I weighed in at 55.8k, which is the first time I’ve seen a 55 at the start of my weight for a while! I had a really lovely day of bushwalking and swimming, too, then blew my FD 800 by scarfing an enormous amount of holiday chocolate at the end of the night. Doh!

My end of month goal is 55.3k, for a 3k drop over January. So close!

    Day 26 Minnesota, USA MFD

Very cold but sunny here. The sun is always cheering. I’m not feeling up to par today. I seem to have either an allergy to something or I’m getting a cold. I’m hoping one or the other. I still can taste and smell, so probably not Covid. Just a lot of congestion.

@northgeorgia I’m so happy for you…228 lbs ! It won’t be long now until you hit that 225 mark!

@flourbaby I’m also looking forward to @basyjames hosting February! 🙂She’s a pro at it!

@nellen I’m thinking I’ll be waiting a long time for the vaccine, as not yet 65; but I hope you can get it soon. As they told my DH: though it prevents serious disease 95% of the time, you can still get it, be asymptomatic, and pass it to others. But It will give you peace of mind to get it, I’m sure.

@songbirdme Good luck with the FD today!

@ccco Yes, they just announced on our news that Minnesota has a case of the Brazilian variant……A person who just came back from Brazil and lives in the Twin Cities. My guess is there are already many cases in various cities, but we haven’t been sequencing as much as the UK and Europe has to find the variants. Let’s hope and pray it’s not too much more dangerous than the “normal” one we’ve had circulating. I hope you can get your vaccine soon!

@daffodil2010 Is eggplant also related to the rubber tree? For some reason, it sticks in my mind that it is. Hope you feel better soon!

@stitchincarol It sounds like a great day to stay home, relax and do what you love best!

@basyjames Wise words. Maybe you can order a lovely meal to be delivered, like @at does from time to time? To give yourself a treat.

Good luck to all fasters and mindful eaters!

    Day 27 – Ireland 🇮🇪 – FD

I really did not feel like eating yesterday with my bad tum, and with the itchy skin and blotches I do reckon I have developed a sensitivity to avacado. I must look up if there are other related foods to that….I know I always feel a bit dodgy if I eat tofu, and I am not much into “exotic” fruit, hence I don’t really have a huge variety. Thanks @basyjames, @brightinbelle, @stitchincarol for your kind words…..not nice discovering something that’s supposed to be good for you could actually make you ill.

@ccco I agree with you red the bad skin, I think it’s too much central heating, having to wear a face mask all the time….and maybe a tad of stress. Keep strong.

I was so cold all day yesterday however, I had forgotten how a good LFD could make you cold…I did half half a cube of oxo in a mug at lunch which warmed me up and I was rearing to go for the afternoon.

Going to continue in same vein today with an OMAD supper and early night. Hopefully the insides will be better tomorrow.

And yes @i-hate-lettuce, I have certainly considered that this might be the silver lining for me to end the month better than I started. I laughed out loud at your snogging story, hilarious 😆
    Happy hump day 🐫

Day 27 – Lake District UK – NFD

    Good morning everyone

Must have been very mild last night, no wind and quite thick fog this morning.

Going to wake ‘The Den Brewery’ up and into action this morning.
Beer stocks are slightly down and its not too cold out, I have enough grains etc for a couple of brews so time to get one going.
So todays effort is going to be an IPA, around 5.1 % ABV, light coloured, low bitterness and plenty of citrus hops.
By the time its conditioned in the bottles (I like to leave them for 8 weeks, but that doesn’t always happen, depends on the tester at 6 weeks) should be a nice easy drinking pint for after a morning working in the garden in spring.

Loads of birdlife around this morning, lots of geese on the move, a flurry of sparrows when I went outside to open up the Den, blackbirds chasing each other around claiming territory, daylight lasting a bit longer already!

Hope those feeling a bit ropey or fragile improve quickly, we’re ticking away the winter days already.

    Take care all.

    Day 27, London, UK, NFD

I’m looking forward to a LCHF NFD today, lots of lovely cheese, pickles, cured meats, Greek yoghurt & salady bits!!

@nellen, you have my sympathy ………………………. Not over your long frustrating wait for a vaccine, but for having to endure a pasta making/cooking (& eating I assume) class😱!!! ……………………….. Stay positive, that vaccine is in your very, very near future🙏!!!

@daffodil2010, feel better soon, I hope you haven’t got what I think I’ve got coming……………………………………….. that infrequent, unexpected, unwanted, seemingly random return of TOM😱!!!!!!

Things are definitely looking up when @i-hate-lettuce is already planning spring gardening and having the home brew reward ready & waiting🙏!! I don’t think home brewing is for me, I don’t have the patience to wait 8 weeks for anything, let alone booze😜!!!

I hope the vaccine roll out speeds up everywhere, I’m not even on the list, but my brother is frontline & lives with my mum, so the prayers continue in earnest!!! The anxiety spikes are probably doing no favours to my hormone rollercoaster, it seems as though the news is getting worse & worse & worse!!! 😭😰😟😢

Stay strong everyone, we shall overcome, and we will!!!

“To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe.” – Anatole France

    Day 27 – USA/GA – FD

Well, I succumbed to temptation yesterday, so not a great NFD. I snacked away at work (although I did choose to eat most of a pack of beef jerky and a small piece of chocolate instead of opening a bag of cheese crisps), and at dinner was invited to have some leftovers at mom’s house and then followed up at home with a serving of macaroni & cheese and some homemade potato chips that didn’t quite work out over the weekend — I wanted them to disappear, so into the stomach they went, swept down by a small apple (oops, fiber today?) and a cup of chocolate ice cream. OMG, stop! Too late. Bad bad.

So today, my weight shot up to 230 lbs, which isn’t abnormal, but makes it less likely I’ll reach December’s goal of 227 before the end of the month. I really don’t plan on doing a 4:3 this week, so whatever shows up on the scales tomorrow will likely be the last opportunity for my lowest weight this month. But, I’m OK with that. I feel good to have gotten off the 1 1/2 month plateau, so just got to keep to the normal pattern and not regularly hijack my NFDs. I’ll see how well I can maintain my Thursday – Sunday NFD weight and configure new targets for 2021 from that point.

Good luck to all us pocketlisters today!

Waited all afternoon yesterday for a telecoms engineer as we’ve had no landline for a few days. Didn’t want to start anything I couldn’t finish in case they disabled the internet. I got out a needle felting kit Xmas present and let my frustrations out on that. 🙂
They didn’t arrive. Still waiting. 🙁
Good FD yesterday, (595 cals) followed by a great night’s sleep. Aiming to repeat that today.

    Day 27 US/DC FD

Good morning all. Happy to report that my pasta making class was a blast – so funny and so fun. AND the 5:2 gods were with me – my pasta was as thick as play dough so there was no way I was eating it. (although I was eating spoonfuls of ricotta – love that stuff.) So, I had a ton of fun, with my family spread far, and didn’t eat. Not bad, huh.

thank you all for letting me vent about the vaccine chaos here. I am just going to have to wait. Maybe I’ll end up reading a ton of books to keep my mind off it all.

@northgeorgia – you’ll get there. we are all in such admiration of you. the plateau days are gone, it will start falling off. don’t worry too much about each day. (I know, I know – easier said than done.)

stay well all. thanks for being there

    Day 27 UK NFD

Things are looking up and we have the 6nations in a couple of week @i-hate-lettuce

Like the sound of your LCHF spread @flourbaby – I just need to wean myself off the bread & cakes – at least I’ve finished the last of my Christmas baking cakes now so pinny away and no more temptation

Starting to set my goals for Feb Need to start getting serious ….onwards

    Day 27 USA (Illinois) NFD

Very good FD yesterday, and keeping at my maintenance.

@stitchincarol – we got about 5-6″ of snow with lots of higher levels in drifts. All beautiful and white even into the almost full moon night last night. We have a drive to Madison, WI for some car things today, and I hope it is all clear.

@brightonbelle – it’s fun to look forward to sports events, isn’t it? I really don’t care much about Super Bowl, although we will watch, but my college basketball team is very good right now.

    Onward and downward.

Day 27 North canton OH CD

Scale still hasn’t budged, but I have lost tons of inches around my upper body, my tummy and my hips, my thighs and arms have also toned up. So progress has been made and I am not mad about it. The scale may eventually show a change-who knows with Cruella.

@northerndawn I have an epic meal planned and I am making it myself. We have ordered a lot of takeout since March last year, and no matter where it comes from, it just does not taste as good and it is not a treat. As much as I want to support our local businesses, I have decided not to do those anymore.

@i hate lettuce I got OH a beer making kit for Christmas and he loved it! I can’t wait to sample some homemade brew.

    Onward and Downwards!

    Day 27 UK FD800

Weigh in day tomorrow. Not expecting too much loss. I think running is making me hold onto water weight?! Either that or I am not working as a human should. I am fasting about 16 and 22 hours most days; staying roughly around 800 kcal (sometimes a few more, often less); not snacking at all; eating reasonably low carb to very low carb; not eating pasta, bread, etc. So… if those scales don’t move soon I’ll scream!

Take care all. I’ll try and catch up with what y’all are up to asap.

Day 27 – Rural Nebraska, USA – FD

Had too leisurely a morning (is that actually a bad thing?) and before I could post anything here, had to leave for my dental appointment. Then, as long as I’d ventured out (the first time in days!), I went ahead and drove into Omaha after the dentist to get some fabric that had to be purchased there and run a few other errands. Now it’s 3:20 and I have a little window of time before a piano student shows up and then it’s time to cook supper. So much for the slow and leisurely days I’ve had until now, LOL!

Since it’s a FD500, however, being on the run is always good, and everything is going well; haven’t eaten anything yet, and have a lovely FD supper planned, so I should managed to stay on course for today.

@litprof Are you saying you went on a trip and came home having lost weight???? I’m thoroughly dazzled!

@i-hate-lettuce I too have been thinking it’s time to brew another batch…it’ll be several days or even weeks before DH and I manage to put action to thought, however. How big a batch did you do today?

Aw, @northgeorgia, don’t you hate those days when you can’t control yourself? I’ve had PLENTY of those, and many just recently, so you have my full sympathy! Thank goodness today is a new day, eh?

@basyjames I have a thought as to why you’re not losing weight, based on all the information you’ve given us. You’re exercising like a mad woman, building muscle, and losing inches. Muscles weigh far more than fat does, so you’re losing, but the scales are only reflecting the added muscles. Don’t you suppose?

@johnnyr I have the same thought for you: have you taken measurements?

It’s a gorgeous sunny day, and the snow forecast for last night fizzled into nothing more than a dusting, so the sidewalks and streets are looking fairly decent. It’s COLD, however: 21/-6 and the low tonight is supposed to be 8/-13. Brr! Thank goodness for a very warm winter coat, LOL!

    Have a grand day/evening, everyone!

Day 28 QLD (AUS) FD 800

@stitchincarol, I did indeed come home from my quick Hobart jaunt lighter, amazingly enough!

But yesterday was a wonderful drive up the coast to the beautiful beaches where some friends from Melbourne have been holidaying for a lovely catch up – first time we’ve seen them in a year – and the scales are catching up with all these festivities.

It’s so great to see old friends again, so I’m focused on enjoying happy times after such long separations. But! Time for some healthier eating FD800 days to start making some good progress again. An extra half a kilo on the scales this morning to add to what I’m trying to lose.

    Day 27 Minnesota, USA FD

Quick check in and then going to bed early. Not much of an appetite today with congestion, so took advantage of that and kitchen is now closed at a little after 8 pm my time. Very good FD achieved.

@johnnyr I agree with @stitchincarol….my guess is your measurements tell the true story, or some clothing that you use to find snug is now loose? It has to happen – you have to lose the weight if you have been following the plan as your outlined. Patience and persistence will reward you.

@basyjames DH and I have not really gotten much take out over the past year. Once in awhile when DD and family come over for patio time and they bring it. I agree that it actually never seems to turn out as good as the remembered experience of sitting in the restaurant and dining there. I look forward to doing that again so much! Soooo much! Maybe by Fall. Fingers crossed.

    Day 28 – Ireland 🇮🇪 – FD

Taking advantage of the massive mojo boost that actually feeling ill has given me and going for another FD today. It was an OMAD yesterday, I took the salmon salad bowl provided for lunch and brought it home for my supper. OMG, it tasted so good. Early night.

So I have had two days of proper fasting, no lunch, under the 500 calories, and for the first time in a very long time, I found it easy. So will keep it up.

I used to keep a food diary, which I updated every evening with everything I ate and drank, exercise done, how I felt, what I weighed…….I haven’t kept one in two years…..and weight has crept up……time to get logging again.

@flourbaby I would be most upset if it was TOM after 9 months, I want 2021 to be the end of it. It doesn’t feel like TOM though.

But it does feel like food sensitivities. So I researched other food that comes under this Latex Syndrome. I was SHOCKED as a lot of these foods I have recently added to diet to increase detox and blood flow…apple and celery green juices…a whole bunch of celery and 4 juiced green apples every couple of days…the proteins in these are similar to the proteins in latex 😱
    Others include:
    Avacado
    Banana
    Pineapple
    Kiwi fruit
    Mango
    Passion fruit
    Fig
    Strawberry
    Papaya
    Melon
    Soy

Remember I said yesterday I didn’t much care for exotic fruit and tofu? That’s my body being sensitive to the darn things 😨

Have I been poisoning myself the last two months 😆

Potato, carrot and tomato also there, but although a regular part of my diet not in huge quantities.

So if you don’t like a particular food don’t try to acquire the taste….it’s probably your body telling you to steer clear.

Have a great day everyone…..WE ALL ROCK 💃

Day 28 – Lake District UK – FD

    Good morning everyone

Glad I had my brewing day yesterday, it was reasonably mild but dry so could crack on nicely. The brew went well, very efficient, took the spent grain down for a neighbours hens as usual, they’re still laying so half a dozen eggs came back!

@basyjames – hope the kit goes well, it could be the downhill slide, I started with a mate and a kit in the early 70’s, brewed my own on and off ever since. Went from kits very quickly to ‘all grain brewing’ and as it its now known ‘craft beers’.

@stitchincarol – I brew 15 litres at a time, basically I enjoy the brewing as much as drinking the stuff. So brewing ‘short’ batches I get to ring the changes, experimenting with different brewers yeasts and hops. Also I bottle all my ale, so 30 bottles a time is quicker and easier than doing 45!

Only mistake I made was while I was in The Den and garage I decided to crank up the BBQ and have a pizza. We have a gas BBQ, but it’s butane gas not propane! Forgot butane doesn’t like the cold and the gas flow isn’t good, it got up to temperature but dropped off, changed cylinder to a new one, it was worse!
One half cooked pizza out of the fire into the frying pan, crisp the base, under the grill to finish off. Was well rescued by Mrs I-H-L, but will leave the BBQ for the warmer weather!

    Day 28, London, UK, NFD

Another NFD today, well, I have a mountain of cheese & charcuterie to get through, I thought I would finish most of it yesterday, but it’s filling & satiating, this could become a WOL😱!!!……………..😜😂😝

@Brigtonbelle, the spread was huge, moreish, but super filling, of course there was one thing missing, no, not the crackers or bread ………………………………. The VINO😭😭!!!! I can only survive in a limited carb house, I don’t have the strength to choose cheese over chocolate, cucumber over crackers, water over wine or anything over a Wotsit😝!!!

@johnnyr, it’s time to ditch the scales and whip out the tape measure!! Or maybe get those scales that measure your water & muscle (& fat😤) percentages. Whatever you do ………………………………………. “Don’t PANIC”!!!!!

@daffodil2010, I’ve never had problems with avocado, but a lot of the fruit on your list used to make my mouth itch and blister when I was little. My mum used to put a sprinkling of bicarb on them which worked a treat and I had fizzy/sherbet like fruit!!! Tomatoes🍅 could only be tolerated once cooked (or sometimes raw with a sprinkle of sugar👀), now I scoff baby Pomodoro’s by the handful daily, I guess I grew out of it!!!!

The weather is pants☔, so I guess it’ll have to be walking with Leslie today, if I can motivate myself to shift my rather ample bum!!!

    Onward & downwards folks!!!!💪💜

    Day 28 – UK – FD

Apologies for my absence over the past week but I’m still keeping on but have to admit that I did succumb to the 👿🍷last weekend but did not overdo it 😇 (@FlourBaby OH wisely did not push the reminder at the weekend – he said he would keep me DTF but the weekend was mine to decide 🤣🤣)so I managed DTF and had a couple of glasses on Friday/Saturday and had a dry TDEE on Sunday before a good FD on Monday once more!

Had some lovely walks on the weekend – 11+km solo walk on Saturday – 12.5km on Sunday with a friend and another 11+km on Monday with another friend – making the most on the good weather before the rain hit us again this week – back to my daily or twice daily zoom classes this week 💪💪

@northgeorgia – you are our MOAM with your weight loss – great job on getting well into the 220’s!
@ccco – well done you on that low weight of 134!!
@penz – so glad your puppy is all recovered!
@nellen – great job on “down to 134 lbs, the lowest I have been since I first did 5:2 in 2017!!! ”
@songbirdme – our poster girl for this WOL 👩 I do envy how you remain in maintenance without any struggle – whilst I too remain in maintenance I do struggle and have to work at it still…..my love of cooking – good food and wine certainly does not help!!!! Happy 52nd wedding Anniversary to you both 👩‍❤️‍👨 and definitely break out the champagne if you like it 🥂🍾
@suki2 – good that your MIL is making progress
@stitchincarol – as you say definitely ” encouraging to be below 150 again!” your MOJO is back!
@clemmi – as others have said do stick to it – it does work!!! drink plenty of water 2-3L per day and have you tried logging all you eat and drink for a week to ensure that you are not underestimating your intake?? having said that we all experience a plateau every now and then 🤗
@snowflake56 – if you are reading the posts sending you a big virtual 🤗 and as others have said you sound sad in your post – hopefully you are OK and no recurrence of your previous health problems – I will miss your posts and you are one of our small group in maintenance here and if you are up to it just pop in every now and then to say hello x
@stitchincarol – your evening out sounded so lovely – it made me realise that OH and I have not been out for around a year now and I do miss our regular visits to some lovely restaurants that we are lucky to have in our region……..will only feel able to go out when we are both vaccinated which most likely will not happen until the summer for us…….
@i-hate-lettuce – it makes me so happy to read about your ongoing recovery and your positive posts – such an inspiration to us all 🤗 Hope Mrs IHL is also recovering well
@basyjames – I was so glad to read your post on Day 22 about your restaurant” at home with OH for your 20th year wedding anniversary as I remember your separation last year and the difficulties you experienced – so happy that you both managed to work things out and recommitted to each other 👩‍❤️‍👨
Be great to have you as our host once more and I will be happy to set up the spreadsheet for you x
@missybear – I too long for a haircut – I keep mine short as when it grows it goes very “bouffant” and I just don’t like it – with the extension of lockdown it is now 8 weeks since my last cut and I am even considering using OH clippers on the longest setting 😱 loving the children mishaps with hair styling other children 🤣
@daffodil2010 – sorry to hear about your health issues – strange re symptoms with avocados but apparently around half of all people with latex allergy have allergic reactions when eating particular foods, including avocado, banana, chestnut, kiwifruit, passionfruit, plum, strawberry and tomato. This is because some of the proteins in latex that cause latex allergy are also present in these fruits. Such a shame for you – take care
@brightonbelle – I’m like you regarding cutting my own hair or even worse letting OH loose on it 😱
