  • On my fast days I’m increasingly suffering from badly-inflamed gums. Why would that be? When I don’t eat for a long period of time, the gums become swollen and they bleed, as well as hurting a lot and giving me headaches. Are there particular foods I should avoid, apart from the obvious ones like fruit juices and candies?

Working in dentistry for 14 years my guess is that your inflammed bleeding gums could be due to a gum condition. The best plan of action is to see your dentist who can diagnose any problem. They will probably advise a visit to the hygienist and maybe some prevention measures. If you have sore inflammed gums some foods can irritate. Good luck.
