Hi Applepie, 3 fast days wow. That’s will power. I feel so much better on a fast day, I need them otherwise I’d go mad! I might skip breakfast on my normal days to reduce my cals overall this week. Nearly through my fast and all well:-)

Hi
BigMarie
Just want to poke in and say meal plans are what have helped me with feed days over the long term. I think some people are just fine on feed days , but for me I need to be in as much control of my fast days and feed days both. First the fast days was every trick in book as long as I did them. So when I started consistenly having successful fasting weeks as planned I started in on the feed days. I added much more fish and a little less pasta and breads at first. Then as time has kept on I eat foods that seem to give a lot of energy on feed days , but sugars not so much. Like oat bran and beans. I can walk for miles and miles on those. I used to need a pedometer to track my daily steps aiming between 10,000 and 15,000. , after that I switched to job that has me walking every work day an insane amount of steps. But that’s when the planning came back. Just to perform my tasks and be competitive with younger co workers iwas eating more energy foods than my TDEE so though I was very active I was gaining weight . ~sigh~
I just kept on with planning util I could find that magic like schedule tailored to me personally.
Currently it’s fast week starts on Friday . Last intake at lunch. So I can can have food energy. But when I get home I only drink tea Or water for 27 hours. I get through mostly by sleeping.
Saturday is a 12 hour feeding window and I eat socially But but only as TDEE . By that time it’s 8-9 pm Saturday’s night and I start on another 27 water fast.
As Monday morning at 1am I clock in to start my work week. It’s a feed day again.
I have another 600 calories fast over36 hours on Wednesday , only because it’s my easiest day.
And there I had it. 4:3
It was such a habit for me and my family to eat Friday nights and Sunday afternoons. That making my commitment to move my feed days to match my work days was unsettling to family members that are used to regular meals with me. But as time goes on they warm up to Saturday’s being the social gathering I attend and it’s all just trivial anyway. But I’m very committed to reaching 100lbsof fat loss as my goal. No matter how long it takes . 100lbs will only make me 1lb overweight. So I have more to lose after that, but I want to keep focused on the achievable and doable steps. Im ok with 25lbs a year, but have lost 68 in two years.
So when I read your post about planning. I just had to share my journey with you.
Wishing you all the best and continued success.
Keep On Keepin On!
Hi bigmarie, I think I am just impatient. But having said that yesterdays fast was hard. I struggled. But I did stay within 500 calories so that is OK.
I am thinking of going back to 5 2 from next week, to see how that goes, and give my skin chance to catch up with my weight loss.
Good luck everyone
Arggh ………. the dreaded plateau!
I love greek yogurt. I don’t buy anything low fat. It’s full fat or nothing for us from now on. Have you tried hot ginger? get chunks of fresh ginger and pour on boiling water. It’s like drinking a ginger nut. I love it! it’s supposed to be good for almost everything, digestion etc etc. I think I might be addicted, ah well, there are worse things π
Happy fasting!
Hello everyone, haven’t been on the forum for a while so just catching up on everyones posts. Big Marie and Apple Pie; I’m glad to read that you are both still working hard and ‘in the zone’. When I started the 5:2 on 12th Jan I weighed 11st, however half way through I traded up to a decent pair of electronic scales which added 2lbs so I’m now thinking I may have been about 11st 2 lbs at the beginning, anyway, I weighed in on Friday morning and I’m now at 9st 12lbs so quite happy with that. I would love to get to my initial goal weight of 9st 7lbs by easter break but I’ve noticed that my weight loss is now attacking my boobs so may just have to be content with where I am. I’m still keeping a watchful eye on cals in non fast days although totally blown it this weekend as cinema and burger king on Friday night followed by bowling and dinner out on Saturday for my birthday and today I thought I’d finishoff my mother’s day chocolates so can ststart tomorrow afresh! ! Looking forward to hearing from you both – Here’s to a slimmer summer π
Great to see you back Shaza and well done on your amazing weight loss!
The scales have stayed the same for me again this week. I started at 10st 12lbs and am now 9st 7lbs. I still have over a stone to go as my ideal weight is 8st 3lbs!! I can’t imagine that but I know I still feel fat.
How true that is bigmarie about slipping back into bad habits. My OH is trying to gain weight so it’s not that easy trying to eat the right foods, with him trying to eat all the wrong foods.
Happy fasting!
Applepie, 8st 3lbs sounds very light, watch you don’t fade away! I’m now at the stage where friends I don’t see every day are now commenting on my weight loss. I’ve only lost a minimal amount recently but still going in right direction. My goal was to get to 9st 7lbs by next Friday and Weighed in yesterday morning at 9st 12lbs which is still great but doubt I’m going to lose 5 lbs I just over a week. My original scales put me at a starting weight of 11st but it turns out they were about 2lbs out and I really was 11st 2 so I’m still chuffed all in all. Last couple weeks I’ve had quite a few dinners out and a birthday cake or two and mothers day chocolates so amazed I haven’t put on. I still weigh, calculate and watch calories on non fast days so try to stick between 1500/1800 so that I don’t feel like I’m wasting my time on a fast day. Next fast is Friday, can’t wait to give my stomach a rest from processing food all day.
Enjoy the rest of your week π
Shaza π
Hi Bigmarie, I’m also fasting today. I usually stick to Tuesdays and Fridays but this Friday is the date I gave myself back in January 12th when I started the 5:2 so I’m having a last push this week and fasting Monday Wednesday and Friday so see if can lose my weight target – been very cold as usual today and may just have an early night to bring on tomorrow morning a bit quicker!
Shaza π
Hi All, It was over 30 degrees here yesterday. The hottest March day since 1927 … lovely!!
Bigmarie I always refer to my non fast days as normal days. Normal now being nothing like the pre 5:2 days that made me fat in the first place. Maybe the term feast days isn’t such a good idea?
Shaza good luck on reaching your goal. I have acheived my initial goal of 9st 7lbs. I am now 9st 5lbs. 21lbs down. I feel so much better not carrying around all that surplus fat.
350 calorie fast yesterday, liquids only today. Bring it on!!
I will show them!
Hi Applepie, my weight target was also 9st 7lbs as I wanted to lose exactly 1.5 stone. When I first weighed in on my crappy scales they put me at 11st then I changed scales half way into the 5:2 to good electronic scales so I could measure the weight loss more accurately but they also put me 2lbs heavier so I’m now saying I prob weighed in at 11.2 so I’ve changed my target weight now to 9st 9lbs. Currently at 9st 11.5 so not sure it’s doable for Saturday morning but got another 2 fasts to do and will watch what I’m doing today and Thursday.
I must admit that I’m still writing down everything I eat and add up calories on non fast days, I don’t class them as feast days as I don’t want to undo all the good of a fast day and now when I have a treat, I really appreciate it instead of before when I would just eat anything and everything without thinking then wonder why I was putting on weight. Was shopping with my daughter the other day in Tesco and came across some dumb bells, I lifted the equivalent of my weight loss so far just to ‘feel’ what the weight actually felt like, couldn’t believe how heavy it felt – Thank goodness that weight is gone!
Shaza π
Shaza, no food, just water, ie black coffee, green tea, hot water flavoured with ginger chunks etc. Absolutely no sugar or diet drinks uck! I allow myself a mug of bovril in the evening, it’s a real treat at the end of the liquids only day. I am doing it today, it’s a great feeling, giving your digestive system a rest.
If I can do it, anyone can!
Bigmarie, stick to it, you can show them! !! 4:3 is hard work, I did it last week for a final push to get to my goal weight on the 12 weeks I’d given myself from starting the 5:2 – just fell one pound short of my goal but plan to continue and fast Tues and Fri this week as it’s true what you say, the pounds can pile on again in no time, but I’m refusing to let that happen now, come so far!
Shaza π
Shaza, sorry you couldn’t do the liquids only day. I think it sounds a lot more daunting than it actually is. I honestly don’t get hungry on that day, not do I wake up hungry the next morning.
I found this link fascinating. I couldn’t stop reading till I got to the end. See if it helps. Originally posted by simcoeluv.

I almost always go to bed early on my 3rd fast day in 1week. I also plan for my meal when I break the fast so I have something to look forward to to stay motivated. I don’t do vigorous exercise on the 3rd day unless its right before eating, because sometimes my exercises or activity can trigger hunger pangs. So if I plan my activity. Just a bit before eating it’s how I manage my pangs.
Took one week off the 5:2 as was in sunny Crieff, Scotland visiting my parents over the Easter hols. Now I feel that Iβve fallen off the wagon, have still been counting calories but most unpleased that I have just scoffed my way through pudding, wine, CIDER!, chocolate all the while quoting βIβm on my holidays!!!β. Today, first day back at work and feeling a bit slugish (no surprise) and so far have managed to polish off a large portion of canteen chips for lunch, some chocolate fingers (only allow myself 4 at a push at 108 cals if Iβve been good all day and have the calories in the bank!), 4 mini lindor chocolates (leftover from my easter egg so had to eat it up!!), then I had sausages, potatoes and cauliflour for tea β but did I stop there β NO, have just finished off the last doughring (hate having to buy packs of 5βs).
So, please everyone, tell me to belt up and get back into it because I seem to be on the road to destruction β Iβve only put on one pound since coming off the wagon which is probably down to the fact that I start using the βmapmyrunβ app for walks and have been swimming with the kids and playing tennis over the last week.
I SO SO need to get back into my βcomfort zoneβ and back to normal. My usual fast days are Tuesday and Fridays, Iβve pretty much reached my goal weight apart from maybe one pound but donβt feel ready for the maintenance 6:1 just yet and quite like the way my body feels during a fast day (and the smuggness I have a work while the rest of them scoff their morning cheese scones π ).
Shaza π
ok Shaza,BELT UP π
just think that lb you put on stick to it this week it’ll be off. I fell off the wagon at xmas and just got back on it today my first fast day and have to say i do feel good not over indulging or shall i say stuffing my face out of boredom or just because i fancy it even tho not hungry.
I m quitting smoking as well, so i am having to use the willpower deep down in my boots to do both at the moment. People at work are saying oh you cant do both. However YES I CAN and I WILL do both. I just need to keep reading the threads you guys post. it does help. i am 11st 3 and i want to break into the 10st barrier its always a huge barrier for me to get below 11st i dont know why? The 5:2 is the diet that has done it for me before xmas it was 10st 12 and i was so pleased, need to get that feeling back. I actually punched the air the day it was 10st 13 i know it was a lb below but i’d got thru the red tape, now that has sealed up again at 11 .3lb i want to do lb a week more will be a bonus but slowly slowly catchy monkey xx
How is it going bigmarie? Hope you are well, we miss your posts.
I am now 9st 1lb. I have lost 25lbs since 5/1/15. I have passed my original goal of 9 and a half stones. My goal now is to get to under 8 and a half stones. I know that my weight is not right yet, I don’t need scales to tell me, and my waist to height ratio is not in the healthy range. So onwards and downwards.
I will show them!
Hello bigmarie
I started the 5:2 on March 10th this year and am very encouraged to read your progress on this forum. I started as 72.5 kg which is nearly 11 stone and 6 pounds in March and have been finding the fasting days not too difficult which has amazed me! I can even do quite a lot of strenuous exercise on a fasting day – weight training session, hours and hours of gardening, walking, running. Keeping busy helps.
My 11th fasting day was yesterday – I hadn’t thought to count my fasting days before reading this and I ate a little over in the beginning because I was incorrectly told that you could eat more calories if you did exercise! Oops!
So Day 11 yesterday and I weighed 69.7kg this morning which is just under 11 stone. Fantastic!
Hi all, thought I would join you on this thread, as it is really motivational to read losses from people of similar weight to me. I started at 12 stone, and went to 11 8 with weight watchers, but felt very deprived and down about it all, it seemed such hard work and took from christmas to april!
I have been fasting for just over two weeks (5:2), and I am now down to 11 4. I think this week I’ll aim for (4:3).
I want to get to 9st 7, and thought it was impossible as I haven’t been that for years, but thanks to the fantastic motivational stories on here I think I can do it!
Keep posting guys, and I’ll show them too!
Bigmarie are you adding emotions to your posts? Others have said that makes them disappear.
Shaza how are you doing? I haven’t lost anything for about a month. I find it a lot harder to lose in the summer. So much socialising going on. I am down to 8st 9lbs so can’t complain.
Hope everyone else is losing nicely π
Hey everybody! It is really lovely reading all of your posts they are extremely encouraging ! I don’t think it has really been mentioned (and I apologize for asking if it has) but how many inches have you people lost? I do not weight a lot but I have a lot of my fat stored on my stomach (which is really bad for health EEK) and was just interested in results in that retrospect?
