  • Hi. So I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer last March and had my Thyroid removed in July. I have gained 15 pounds since then. I am pretty active. I run 3 miles 4-5 days a week, do aditional cardio inbetween, and do weights. I cannot seem to get rid of this fat around my stomach area. I started this diet last week, so this just completed my second week, and I have not lost anything. On my off days I still eat very healthy. I am frustrated and am looking for some answers about how long it takes before you see results. I am 5 foot 9in. and weight 143. I want to get back to 133. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You don’t say if you are male or female but as thyroid cancer is more common in women I’m going to assume you are female.
The average weight loss for women on 5:2 is about 1lb per week. If you don’t have much weight to lose it will take longer. Looking at your height and weight, you are not technically overweight despite weighing 10lbs more than you did previously.
The medication you are taking to replace thyroid function will also have an effect. Have you discussed this with your specialist? It might be an idea to do so.

@amazon, yes I am a female. I did talk about this with my oncologist and he said it would take time. I am 33 years old and this is the heaviest I have ever weighed. The thing I hate the most is the belly fat. I have never had this fat or whatever it is around my stomach area. I have always been on the slim side. This is really killing me that I have to look like this. Any advice?

As I said, it will take time to lose the weight. You could try fasting 3 times per week, keeping below your TDEE on non fast days, and cutting down on processed carbs and sugar, focussing on leafy veg, lean meat, fish etc.
Having gotten through thyroid cancer you can do anyhing but you’ll need to be patient.
Look round the website and see if there is any advice in the Medical conditions section too.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.
