  • Hi all, Ive been on the 5:2 diet for 2 months now (just starting my 3rd month) and Ive been doing quite well in sticking with it, I do two consecutive days (Mon, Tue) as I find that fits best with me, and so far Ive lost over 15lbs

    I have just noticed in the FAQ that it says;

    “It is best to avoid refined carbs on fast days ie anything white or rich in sugar. That means pasta, rice and potatoes, as well as the more obvious things like donuts!”

    I quite often have Pasta or Rice on my fast days (generally one of my 2 days each week).

    So, question is, Why is it best to avoid these on fast days?

    Hi j0rdan:

    It is because refined carbs like pasta, and ‘pure’ carbs like rice, cause blood sugar spikes and tend to make people more hungry after they are eaten. Many people find one evening meal high in fat and protein works best because they are less hungry.

    Here are some tips, and in the thread is much information on the importance of fat in the diet and the reasons to reduce carbs: http://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/

    Good Luck!
