  • Hi all, yes my eye is healing. There’s a lot of white showing through the red so I’m hopeful that it won’t be much longer. It’s not nearly as grotesque as it had been. On Sundays I teach the high school class at church and I told them at the beginning that I’m aware that my zombie eye is distracting so we’ll just get all the concerns and questions out right at the start. They enjoyed talking about the “zombie eye”. A great group of kids.

I’ve gone to the gym three times this week. Each day we try to do a different set of workouts but the routine is consistent with some strength training stuff, sprints on bikes, elliptical, treadmill, rowing machine. Today I ran on the treadmill for 2 minutes straight. I’ll try to push myself more each time. I have a ticket for several free sessions at the gym but there are only three left. I’m going to have to buy a membership soon.

I also am going to start working again. I retired in September and it’s not easy making ends meet. And Dennis is hoping to retire in April of this year so that’ll be an added struggle. I had an interview yesterday and the interviewer was quite pleased with the interview and I should be able to start soon. And I can work as often as I want, as long as I work at least 4 days a month. What a sweet arrangement! I’m planning on starting with 3 days a week.

Today is my normal fasting day but since yesterday was Ash Wednesday and a fasting day I don’t think I’ll fast today. I stopped for coffee and a bite to eat after the gym.

Cinque, it’s wonderful that your daughter’s family will be moving closer soon. What fun it is to have your kids and grandkids close. There’s just something about grandkids. I never imagined what a joy it would be to be a granny. I wish my mom was around so we could be grannies together. She was a fun grandma and I strive to be like that. One day she took 4 or 5 of her grandkids out for a ride in the car and let them choose left or right whenever they came to an intersection. They were on back roads that were rarely used and were dirt roads, not hard-top. They got lost a few times but they had a great time. My kids still talk about that adventure.

Audrey, I’m trying a version of your chicken in the slow cooker today. I love the smell! The other day I made a beef roast, about 2 lbs for Dennis and me. I had one piece and he ate almost all the rest. There was one piece left. I put it in a bowl, turned to get a lid, and when I looked again the meat was gone! I scolded him for eating the last piece of meat and he said he didn’t. I then looked at my dog and she ducked her head and slunk out of the kitchen! That little sneak. hahaha. I love my little Willow but she’s a stinker sometimes.

Have a good one ladies. Patty

Patty hope you enjoyed your chicken, you made me laugh with your story of the dog and the beef. I put a joint of beef in my slow cooker last week, just popped it on top of 1 onion and 2 carrotts and poured a bit of beef stock on it. Was blooming lovely just fell to pieces. …. will definitely do it that way again, we put some of the meat into the freezer for when we holiday at the caravan….

Cinque hope you are ok? Beena are you ok too?

    Keep in touch ladies

    Audrey

Hello, I’ve been trying to catch up with my community food project, and things have started happening before I have even got my website up to date. Oh dear I wish I could do more, more quickly! But it is all good.
Plus my daughter and honey darling granddaughter fly down tomorrow so I am making sure everything is as ready as possible before a week of utter chaos! The permanent move will be in a few months, this is just a visit!
Yes, being a grandma is SUCH a joy! And I must try your mum’s grandma drive when she is older (there are signs that a new little one is coming along! Shhh it is still early).

Chaos also in your house Patty with that cheeky dog!

Oooh those beef dishes sound lovely!
I am trying to eat up my freezer before I go and buy things for more recipes. It is a slow process! But a beef stew is on my list.

So glad your eye is healing, and the gym stuff is so impressive.
I am so sorry you are being pushed into work, I hope there is some pleasure in it. Life is tricky.

Audrey are your still going faster on the treadmill? Hope so!

Yesterday was fast day for me and it was a fine one. Really enjoyed my meals today. Best wishes everyone fasting, or not fasting!

Cinque, I hope you’re right about a new baby coming along! One can never have too many grandies.

I am so pleased with intermittent fasting. I seem to be losing lbs and inches consistently. And I’m becoming more mindful about what I’m eating on my non-fasting days. I’m finding that I don’t even have to think about it much, I’m becoming so accustomed to eating properly. I’m also more mindful about what I serve to my granddaughters when they come to visit. Their granddad made cookies in anticipation of a weekend visit but I also make sure there are lots of good fruits and veggies available. Believe it or not, their favorite veggies are Brussel sprouts and broccoli.

My cheeky dog’s theft of the roast beef wasn’t her first offense. She stole nearly a pound of bacon that had been cooked and was cooling on the counter. She stole 9 cupcakes that my daughter had made for a birthday party. She has been known to drink out of my coffee cup that was left in the cup holder in the car with her. I have no idea how she gets the lid off! And she constantly steals the cats’ food. She’s very sneaky. But I love her anyway.

Book club gathering tonight. I think the hostess is serving lasagna. Glad it’s not a fasting day!

    Have a great weekend. Patty

    Hi Everyone,

Patty I think you must have a wolf for a pet! Thank goodness she is lovable!
I hope you have a lovely book club.
It is so true what you say about 5:2, and it is so simple it really is a miracle.

My daughter always loved those two greens too! Infact broccoli is her absolute favourite. She called them ‘trees’ when she was little.

    Enjoy your lasagne!

    Morning ladies,

I had another successful fast day yesterday, and managed to walk 2 miles on the treadmill, I even got up to 5 kilometres an hr! That is extremely fast for my little legs, any faster I would be jogging and my back would not do that!

I am feeling great with the exercise and diet and although haven’t lost any weight this week I am definitely shaping up. …

Patty when we were small our dog stole the turkey on xmas morning, very funny now remembering mum chasing him up the kitchen, not funny on the day though. ….

Cinque, hope the baby news stays ok, how lucky to have them, moving closer to you.

Good luck to all and have a great weekend

    Audrey

    Fab treadmill work Audrey! 🚢🚢🚢🚢
    You’ll be shaping up beautifully.

I’ve spent the day with daughter and granddaughter. They are off to a family party tomorrow while I stay home and quietly fast!

    Night! πŸŒ™πŸ’«

Audrey great job on the treadmill! 2 miles is a very good distance. Today’s one of those days where I won’t be walking my dog 3 miles. It’s -11F (-23C) here today. Brrrr. I’ll most likely just let her run freely in the yard and I’ll stay inside where it’s warm. It’s a good soup-making kind of day.

I laughed about your dog stealing a turkey. I can just imagine. My sister’s dog once stole a cheesecake off the counter that had been just taken out of the oven. My dog isn’t very big. She weighs about 40lbs and stands just about knee high. She’s long and slender. When she stands on her hind legs and stretches she can easily get things off the counter top. One of my cats is also a food thief. I always have to be on the lookout.

The book club gathering was very nice. Not everyone enjoyed the book. It was a story of a speech therapist who works in a rural area, traveling all over to work with clients in their homes. This is exactly what I was doing when I retired. There were other twists and plots in the story as well so it was quite interesting. The dinner wasn’t lasagna after all. It was baked chicken with macaroni and cheese and a delicious spinach salad. Ice cream sundaes for dessert. I’m going to do a fast day today. It was way too much and I’m not feeling so great this morning.

Cinque, so glad you had a good time with your daughter and granddaughter. When they live so far away the time together is especially sweet.

Well, I’ve a house to clean so I best get to it. The granddaughters spent the night last night. Since I was away all evening and granddad was in charge things didn’t get picked up. His rules, if they exist at all, are very lax when it comes to picking up. But they had a great time.

    Patty

    Patty and cinque,

Grandchildren are the best much better than our own children, we can spoil them rotten then send them home…

It’s very chilly here today too but not as cold as you are patty stay in and warm….

    Have a good weekend ladies

    Audrey

It is a such different feeling, being a grandma, to have such a close relationship without the crushing responsibility, or the relentlessness!

It sounds like a great book club Patty, and good food. I keep trying to remember how awful it feels to overeat, so I don’t do it next time… but I am a slow learner. Next time when you have a book club do you want us to remind you?

Fast day today. Taking it quietly. Making dahl for a meeting tomorrow. Someone can’t have garlic so I hope I can make up for it (forgot that in this recipe it is an essential ingredient in the tarka).

    Warm wishes!

Hi ladies, I think my favorite thing about being a grandma is watching my kids be parents. The other day my daughter, her girls, and I had been shopping. When we arrived home it was dark and as she and the girls were walking to the house from the car I heard her telling them to look up at the sky at the stars. She pointed out the milky way and some constellations for them to see. She was excited to show them and they were excited to see it all and learn the names. It was such a sweet moment. That’s the stuff that makes me smile.

Cinque, you always make such interesting meals. I had to look up both dal and tarka to figure out what you were talking about. Sounds very tasty. I need to start venturing out into more creative and diverse meals.

The thing about overeating is that it doesn’t seem to register until it’s too late. It’s hard to be mindful of what I’m eating, especially when there’s great conversation going on. On Saturday I didn’t fast because the granddaughters were here and I like to have meals with them. Today I fasted, having one meal at the end of the day with our daughter’s family and one of my sisters. We like to have Sunday dinner together. Roasted chicken and butternut squash, brussels sprouts, and potatoes. Blueberries and blackberries for dessert. I was happy with that meal, colorful, nutritious, and delicious. Monday and Thursdays are my usual fast days and I’ll get back on that schedule Monday morning. Sunday evening here as I write this.

Have a good week all. Patty

    Hi everyone!
Just a quick catch up as I am busy with my granddaughter! Life is hectic.
I love to read your stories Patty.
I hope you and Audrey have been able to do wonderful exercise.
It is lull day for me: no fast day yesterday, none tomorrow!

Patty I agree about that fullness trigger. It means I need to be vigilant about not going over a sensible portion, waiting half an hour, and only having my second helping them, if I am still hungry. And a SMALL one Cinque, for the hundredth time!!!!!!

    Hi Cinque

Glad ur doing ok. Enjoy your time with your family.

I am off to my mums on Sunday for a few days. I try to get there every month or so….

I have been busy exercising and watching what i eat am hoping for a good loss on Thursday. Will let you know.

Hope everyone is ok. Patty hope you are doing ok and the dog is behaving …

    Audrey

Hi ladies, I’m happy to report that my dog is behaving. Maybe it’s because I was home all day with her. We even took a nap together! Actually I was gone for a little while today. Went to the doctor’s for annual checkup. Didn’t take long at all…..the appointment is actually tomorrow! So I’ll go again and maybe even get to see the doctor and not just the receptionist! Although she and I did have a nice chat.

Had a nice fast day today. I had a small lunch of yesterday’s leftovers and a smaller supper of some sauteed vegetables. Dennis was busy making potato soup but it won’t be ready until tomorrow. That’s something to look forward to.

Nothing else going on around here. It’s always quiet on Mondays once all the weekend chaos is over. Glad you get some time with your granddaughter, Cinque. Before you know it they’ll be living close again.

Have a nice day everyone. Patty

    Hi ladies,

I had been very busy last 2 weekends with guests at home. They left yesterday. It was fun to have everyone, but it meant lot more calories than a normal weekend – wine, crisps, cheese. The only saving grace is that I haven’t put any weight, but haven’t lost any either. We have guests again next 2 weekends.

I had been going through all the posts. Patty good to know that your eyes are healing. Audrey, you are enjoying the treadmill, great. Cinque have a great time with family.

I am at work, just taking a break now. Have a great day ladies

    Beena

    Hello Hello,
Daughter and granddaughter are off visiting the childcare they hope Josie will get into when they move back here (My daughter used to work there). I’m waiting for my precious homehelp to arrive, then we have visitors who want to catch up with us all, and then this evening my son in law flies in for an interview tomorrow.
I’m enjoying it all but desperately need to rest and also catch up with some office duties.
So instead I am popping in here to say hi!

Beena, lovely to see your post! Glad you are managing weight maintenance among your visitors. Are you fitting any fast days in between weekends?

Audrey, fingers crossed the scales give you some nice feedback tomorrow!

Patty, hooray for quiet Mondays! I hope you have an excellent checkup on the RIGHT DAY! Ha, it is the sort of thing I do all the time. Must remember dentist appt tomorrow first thing!
I bet your doctor is thrilled at your changes!

    I’m off to lie down!

Heloo lovely ladies. Just got home from the gym and had a great workout. It feels so good to work out hard like that. My sister and I went to breakfast afterwards. That was nice. Lots to talk about.

The annual checkup went well. I had bloodwork done to see if my glucose and cholesterol are down. They weren’t terribly high before, barely above average but I’m hopeful they’ll be down since I’m eating better and exercising more. I will probably have the results by tomorrow. Today I have my annual mammogram screening. Do you do annual screenings there in the UK and Australia? I don’t know that I would do it if it weren’t for my sister having breast cancer.

Audrey, I did a fast yesterday with just liquids. I did it because I was going to have the blood work done. I didn’t like it a bit! I was so hungry after my appointment that I immediately grabbed something to eat. It’s impressive that you can do it and have a second fast day afterwards. I’ll have to stick to my low calorie fast days.

Sounds like everyone is having some great visits these days. I’m always happy to have visitors and I love being a visitor. We all like to play games or cards when we get together. Or just sit and visit.

    Enjoy the day! Patty

    Hi patty

In the UK we go for screening every 5 years. I do have regular blood tests though for thyroid and high colestral. …

Had a good day today, walked for 5 km on the treadmill, very tired after, non fast day for me so just had pasta bake and garlic bread yummy…

Off to mums on Sunday, for a few days, do will not be in touch as often…

Got Thomas and zoe coming on Friday not sure if Thomas is staying until Sunday will wait and see….

Good luck to all my friends

    Audrey

Hello everyone my name is Denise and I’m in the United States I am over 50 and today was my second fast day I’m doing one fast day of week and I have lost 20 pounds I started in December and I was at 267 now I am at 247 I hope to get down to 160 I know its gonna take a while but its okay my fast today has went really good I’m just now getting hungry but it’s good and I’m a grandmother of three and I have a dog a cockapoo who is like a child herself
and I have been married 32 years and I’m just glad to be on the site trying to recover that waist of mine it’s in there somewhere I’m going to find it good luck to all of you

Hi Denise! You’re the first one I know who’s from the US, like me. Pennsylvania in fact. Glad to have you here with us.

I started the fast diet in late December. I’ve lost 20lbs as well and am down to 178. I’m fasting 2 days, Mondays and Thursdays. I eat about 400-500 calories on those days, usually lunch and a light supper. I don’t really count calories on my non-fast days though I should. The only reason I don’t is because it’s too much bother. But I do eat cleanly and have a pretty good idea about how much I can eat. I walk 3 miles every day unless it’s too cold (it was -11 last week and that’s too cold). I go to the gym 2 or 3 days a week.

I’ll be 59 very soon and have 2 grown kids, 3 granddaughters, a dog, and 2 cats. Been married 35 1/2 years. I have enjoyed this thread a lot, the ladies are great to chat with. Now I’m putting trips to UK and Australia on my bucket list!

Good luck with this new lifestyle of intermittent fasting. I think it’s excellent. I suggest going on Youtube and watching Dr. Mosley’s documentary. It helped me get a better perspective on his fasting rationale.

    Have a good afternoon. Patty

Thank You patty I will go on YouTube. Very glad to meet u. Im on east coast also.

Hi Denise, lovely to have you join in! 🌻
I’m at the far end of the 50’s with one grownup daughter and one darling toddler granddaughter, both (along with son in law) visiting this week. Hence very short post!
I live in Melbourne, they’ve been a couple of years in Sydney, but are moving back here in a few months. Nick has come down for a job interview this morning.

Fast day today. Dentist this morning. Catch you later. πŸš€

    Hi Denise

    Welcome to our little group.

It’s bedtime here now. I live in Cheshire England. Hope to get to know you more…

Weigh in day tomorrow girls will let you know how it goes

    Audrey

Thank you all for the warm welcome and have a question right at the end of my fast I really get cold but I’m just wondering what that could be
Goodnight everyone I know it’s night time over there used to live in Germany for 4 years

    Hi again Denise,
A lot of people get cold while fasting. I think your body is used to using the quickly available energy to keep you warm. When that isn’t available it works harder to use stored fat, and keeping you nice and warm goes down its priority list. Hopefully it will adjust before long.
It may help to warm yourself up before you get cold, by dressing warmer, exercising or having hot drinks.
Once you get cold: a shower, or better still, a bath, will warm you quicker and more thoroughly than extra clothing or a heater. If you can’t get in warm/hot water, get hot water into you, with soup or a cuppa.
    Hope that helps.

Yes thank you drank a little boullion and just put more clothes on its better thank you so much

Whew done. I fast from 8 p.m. to 8 p.m. but I don’t over eat before or after thanks everybody for the encouragement today

I’ve heard that post menopausal women have a slower metabolism, dry skin…other annoying and embarrassing symptoms. Personally, I haven’t experienced any of these. Perhaps because I never read the pamphlets. Also I’ve heard that we gain weight easily compared to younger women. But that’s just not true. If we think that way, we are merely victims of our “certain age” ideology and have no say or control over our own bodies. I know for certain that I gained a massive amount of weight simply because I ate too much…and chose to sit in an aptly named, “Lazy Boy” instead of getting up and moving around. If I blame the TV or hormones…or sunspots, then I’ve already conceded my defeat. Any reduction in calories will have positive results. Personally, I’m not going near the scale until my fat pants start to fall off. Scales are deceptive and have caused me to give up when I was actually making good progress. Please hang in there!

Good morning all. I like knowing that it’s also Thursday morning for Denise as we’re in the same time zone. I believe right now it’s Thursday afternoon for Beena and Audrey and Friday morning for Cinque. Not sure about you, Piano Gal, welcome to the thread.

I haven’t noticed being cold at the end of a fast but I do notice feeling warm, almost like a hot flash, when I break a fast sometimes. I also don’t fast for 24 hours, I go 16 hours usually on a fast day. From evening meal to late lunch.

Piano Gal, I agree with you about weighing. It can be disheartening and weight alone is not a good indicator of one’s health. One of my sisters weighs herself every morning. She gets discouraged and frustrated quite often but won’t stop. I once joked to her that she should get a scale for downstairs so she can see how much weight she loses by walking downstairs every morning. She said that’s just silly. And I said, so is weighing yourself everyday. But she can’t seem to stop. She even takes her scale with her when traveling. When I hurt my eye and went to the hospital the first thing they did was weigh me. The second was check my vision. Last, an actual physical examination of my eye. This week I went to the doctor for a checkup the first thing again was weight. I also had them check my height because I know I’m losing inches and wanted to know how many. I used to be 5’4″ now I’m 5’1 1/2″. Quite a significant change. But there’s nothing to be done about that.

Many of my pants will most definitely fall off if I don’t wear a belt. It’s encouraging. I’m also encouraged by the number of people who remark about how good I’m looking and the fact that I have so much more energy and a more positive attitude.

On that note, I’ll get up off the computer chair and get some things done. Have a great day all! Patty

Morning all, its still morning just here patty.

I have weighed in and lose 2.5 lb…. very happy as I had put 1lb on last week , I still don’t know how that happened. ….

Dashing off sorry, got lots to do, got zoe coming tomorrow for the day then off to mums at weekend. …

    Audrey

Audrey, I was thinking we were 8 hours different for some reason. Have a great weekend at your mum’s. And great job on the 2.5 lb loss! That’s awesome. It’s nice to be surprised like that. P

Good morning everybody well my fast went good yesterday I was cold so I did cover up and drink some warm water and last 5 hours it was kind of rough just being cold but I ate some soup last night and a small piece of Turkey and I think I ate like a cracker couple of crackers so I’m going to eat today but I’m going to still try to eat very clean and go from there hope everyone has a great day and to anyone who is fasting today God bless you

Hi all, am in the middle of a fast day and I think I’ve already eaten more than my 500 calories. Dang! But that just means I’ll not eat the rest of the day. Tomorrow I’m finally heading to my son’s for a visit. The last 3 times we planned on going it didn’t happen for one reason or another. It’s an 8 hour trip so I can fast again during the drive. I will only stop for fuel and to let the dog have a run. No need to eat when all I’m doing is sitting all day. I’m so looking forward to seeing them all. Especially Lauren. Can’t get enough of the grandkids.

Had a great work-out with my sister at the gym today. Afterwards we stopped at a consignment shop to drop off some clothes that are now too big for me. WooHoo! Then we went to lunch-my downfall since working out with no breakfast made me very hungry. Had roast beef with horseradish sauce, sauteed onions and peppers, and a delicious chipotle sweet potato soup. Oh so good. I’ll have to do some research to see if the meal was indeed over 500 calories.

Since I’ll be on the road tomorrow I won’t be able to check in. Have a great weekend everyone. Enjoy your travels and time with family and friends. Patty

    Hi all,

I won’t be in touch as often for a while, my back is playing up Dr wants me to go into hospital for some tests…..

Have a good weekend, Patty enjoy your trip bet you have ,ore fun than me!

    Audrey

Audrey, I’m so sorry to hear about your back. I hope they don’t tell you that you’ve been overdoing the treadmill. Or that you need surgery! Back ailments are the worst! Everything we do, every move we make, involves the back. Will you still be able to go to your mother’s for a visit? Hope all goes well. Patty

    Hello everyone, 🌺🌺🌺
Oh Audrey! So sorry your back seizing up again (is that what it is doing?). It was going so well. Good luck with all those tests. You have a busy time. No fun with a bad back.
When you get to your mums, tell her Melbourne says hello!

Denise best wishes for a good non fast day! I like to make them as healthy and normal as possible. Then when an occasional feast happens it is no problem.

I had a fine fast day yesterday! And hopefully a nice non fast day today.

Hi Piano Gal, welcome here! It is sometimes a relief to blame ‘hormones’ for everything! πŸ˜‰
No matter what the reason, the wonderful thing is that 5:2 makes the difference for so many of us. Whether we are mad weighers or not, calorie counters or not, able to exercise or not! We all work out our own way.

Best wishes to you and lovely to have you here.

Good luck with the rest of your fast day Patty! ( that roast beef meal sounds just wonderful). Hooray you are FINALLY getting to visit your son. I am sitting here worrying that something else might happen to stop you, but you have had your three, it is time to go!

Good wishes everyone, fast day or non fast day, have a good one!

    Thank u all

Oh my oh my, my daughter-in-law phoned today to inform me that my son was just diagnosed with mononucleosis! But I’m going anyway. It’s not that contagious. Apparently he’s had it for a month or so. When they said he had the flu they’re now thinking it was a symptom of the mono. Brother! When he was growing up he was NEVER sick. So I’ve started packing and will leave in the morning, no matter what!

Cinque, how do you get the little pictures and stickers you add to your posts? Is it a special app on your computer? They always look so cheery. A very nice touch.

Have a great weekend all. P

Oh that is bad news Patty. I hope he can take all the time he needs to rest up. Too many people with what I’ve got (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) started with glandular fever. So it is important not to push yourself back to work too early!

Best wishes for a good trip.

When I am writing on my ipad I have access to all those little things, and it is so easy to put them in. They are great fun. I am on my computer now so all you get is a smile! πŸ™‚

Another big busy day here! But a nice quiet evening. Bliss.

    Hi all,

Just a quick update from my phone, don’t have much wifi so hope it sends. .. I am due to go for an xray shortly, they don’t seem to know why my back is in spasm. Also they have got me on some pretty strong tranquilisers so am pretty much spaced out.

Will post again when I am able to

Thanks for all the best wishes, obviously not going mums now!

    Audrey

Audrey I am sending best wishes πŸ’πŸŒΈπŸŒΊπŸŒ»πŸŒΊπŸŒΈπŸ’
Thank goodness for the tranquillisers and fingers crossed they work out what is happening and how to fix it.

It is bed time here. Hoping that when I wake in the morning there is good news. πŸŒ™πŸŒπŸŒŽπŸŒŸ

    Hi all,
It is a long time since I managed to log into the website, even though I had been seeing all the posts in my email.

Welcome Denise to a fabulous group of friends.

Audrey, sorry to hear about your back. You had been doing so well. Hopefully, it is just a spasm of muscles and you should be back to your treadmill in no time.

Patty, hope your son gets better soon. Have a great trip and enjoy your weight loss.

Cinque, how are you doing? And yes Cinque I am managing my fast days on weekdays. And I am fitting in some exercise as well. I had been having pain in my right shoulder since Xmas, and it is impingement. So I can’t do any weights. I am running and walking as much as I can – as the weather allows.

I have guests this weekend again. I am planning on pasta bake and sloppy joe.

Keep up the good work ladies. Will catch up with you soon

    Beena

    Hi everyone,
wondering how you are Audrey. Constant pain is such a drag. I hope there are good things happening to keep you going.

Hi Beena, I made my favourite pasta bake this week for my visitors. Such a good dish!
I hope you have a lovely weekend full of good people, good conversation (and there is no doubt there will be good food!).

I had to look up impingement. I feel for you. I am sure that is what I had badly when my daughter was a toddler, and I have had it the last few weeks. Not bad enough for a visit to the doctor, thank goodness, but bad enough. Luckily it has faded over the past week. May yours heal too!

Just turned 60 and been struggling with my weight for my whole life (I was a fat kid) but I did find it even harder after the menopause. I started 5:2 4 weeks ago and I am finding it really good – I have actually lost 8 lb in this time and it has been comparatively effortless. The 2 500 calorie days have been a challenge in terms of working out what I can eat but actually nobody at work has noticed that I am doing this (!) because I have just modified what I normally have. Lifestyle change too in that I am getting to the gym; I am very limited there due to a knee injury but at least doing something. I am also basing a lot of my 5 days on what I have on the 2 days but adding in extra healthy calories as protein, good fats and some complex carbs. I am not good all the time and having some alcohol but there’s always another 2 day coming up πŸ™‚

Yardy that’s wonderful. Good to have others on that journey.

    Hi all,

I am home, not much change still in back pain, full of tranquilisers so very sleepy. Put 5 lb on! Having a break from 52 at the moment need to try to sort back problems out…

    Audrey

Sending best wishes Audrey! It is so unfair.!!!!! but try not to comfort eat, if possible! I’m really anooyed about that 5lb too, with all your lovely walking and work. Have you annoyed one of the more vindictive gods? I’ll send some extra good magicky Australian wishes to banish them back to where they belong. Kapow! There they go!

Hi all, just got home from my weekend at my son’s. He’s definitely not well. When I arrived on Friday his fever was 104!!! It was up and down the entire weekend, anywhere from 100-103. He looks miserable. He’s been to the doctor several times and will be going again this week. They’ll be testing for possibly Hodgkins Lymphoma. Yikes. He’s been sick for a very long time. Right now they’re thinking it’s mononucleosis but want to rule out others. My daughter thinks they should also test for Lyme disease.

So sorry to hear you’re still in pain Audrey! It’s so stressful to be in such pain. Especially in the back since every move we make necessarily uses our backs. Poor girl.

Sorry to hear about your shoulder, too, Beena!

Welcome to Yardy and congratulations on losing 8lbs already! Like you, I find the 5:2 fasting to be a wonderful way of eating. It feels so right.

The other day when I was cleaning out all the “stuff” I’ve accumulated over the years I found 7 diet/nutrition books. Wow! The only one I’m going to keep is Dr. Moseley’s FastLife. There is something positive in all the others and I can use what I’ve read in each to form my own healthful way of eating.

I fasted today on the 8 hour drive home. Stopped at my daughter’s to pick up the cat she was watching for me and she fixed a nice supper of steak and asparagus. Not a huge meal but just right for the end of a fast day. Got home and found that Dennis had made a rabbit pot pie! I’ll have to save that for tomorrow. Looking forward to a trip to the gym tomorrow. I did manage to get a little exercise while I was away, jumping on the trampoline with my granddaughter. Can’t do any of the tricks she does but I can bounce! Have a good day all. Patty

    Hi Patty,
What a huge worry for all the family, and especially for your son. Fingers crossed they find out what is going on, and it is something that can be easily fixed.
So glad the family is all looking after each other (with beautiful food!) enjoy that rabbit pot pie when you are ready for a good meal.
    Keep bouncing!

Talking of books with tips and insights around dieting -I found this article on my fb feed this morning. Have any of you read this book? I found it wonderful in the 80’s when I read it. Probably the main reason I never went on a diet (but I guess 5:2 is technically a weight loss diet so there you go!)

Audrey, sending good wishes in a steady flow! Hope the pain is easing!

Hi Yardy, sorry this is a belated welcome (had guests here, including an 18 month old, it is a wonder I can get words out!) it is lovely to have you here!

Hi Cinque. Thank you for the welcome. I am still hanging in with this. Fast day on Monday, another planned for tomorrow and currently tucking into some salad and salmon that I poached last night (bargain reduction from Morrisons). I have a specialist orthopedic surgeon appointment next week to hopefully learn more about what is has happened to my knee.
