  • I have started the diet on Monday..! Wish me luck! I want to lose 10 kilos. But I have a question: if I eat 1.700 calories (according to my TDEE) on the non fast days, how am I supposed to lose weight? I can’t eat so much.. Good Luck eveybody

    Hi Mary and welcome:

The way 5:2 works is you cut calories out of your diet on your diet days. For you, assuming for the time being that your TDEE is 1700 cal, the weekly calorie deficit created by 5:2 will be 2400 cal (1700 – 500 x 2), or about 3/4 of a pound a week.

However, there is no requirement that you eat your full TDEE on your non diet days. You can eat to your TDEE or less.

Your TDEE is an estimate, so while it gives you a starting point it may not necessarily be correct and may need to be adjusted later. Here are some tips for those just starting 5:2 – #4 explains TDEE more fully: http://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/

    Good Luck!

Thank you so much for your answer.. Could consuming so much less calories than normal put the body into starvation mode? Is there a calories limit? I really want to “waken” my metabolism and not the opposite.

    Mary:

The ‘starvation mode’ is what I call an urban legend. There is no such thing for overweight people starting a weight loss diet – see FAQ, above.

The basic rule is the less you eat, the more you lose.

    Good Luck!
