  • Morning all!
Dave- how did the Elvis turn go? Hope your head is okay today…😰
Jean- it’s good that Charlie is missing Steve- shows how quick he’s bonded & settled in, is it just 3 weeks now?! Not all dogs are good with puppies, they can be a bit rough, but I’m sure the trainer will keep an eye on things! What time is Steve back?
Xena up at 6 as usual- how does she do it, within 5 mins every day? Nick says his dog used to watch the digits on his click & wake them up! Raining here, couldn’t believe a report in the paper that said how many people don’t bother walking their dogs if it’s raining! We’ll still all be out, won’t we!!
Mum’s coming over this afternoon for some games, dinner & Dancing on ice…

    Hi..
Back from my walk only one dog walker and a old guy having his morning walk….just having a cuddle before I colour my hair…Steve home about noon, he is sat in Wetherspoons having breakfast and a second cup of tea, he’s laughing saying how full it is and all the beer being drunk!

    Hedgehog..
Charlie is up at 6am staring at us ( wanting his cuddle) we pretend we are asleep as we move to make tea about 6.45, it’s potty time and straight back up stairs to ask to come on bed for his morning cuddle!

He slept downstairs in Steve’s place last night..just two weeks today we collected him…still early days…definitely no alarm clock here now.
Yes I will be walking in the rain today just thinking what I am wearing..I have winter waterproof trousers they seem the best bet and my walking layers..Charlie has a red raincoat too 😂..hoping it’s not too windy for him…

My neighbours have dogs both sides, small dogs I have seen them out once each, they just yap in the garden…cruel really…another neighbour takes two dogs out twice a day all weathers.

Well must get these roots done..

    Jean x

Charlie went berserk when Steve came home he was so fussy, he wouldn’t leave him alone….he is now settled and asleep with him…so nice to watch….

Good afternoon, head is always ok.I sang Can’t help falling in love,My mate recorded it on his phone, not looked at it yet though 😛.I joined the supporters club and had a chat with the CEO he used to come round and talk to us last season so I told him we have moved to the seats this year,he said he will come and find us.Plenty of football today three games on TV.

Hi all. I’m a newbie to 5:2 and the forum. I’m about to complete my first week on 5:2 tomorrow 😃
I live in Manchester with my hubby. I’m loving all of the dog chat on here! Sadly, I don’t have a dog at the moment, but I absolutely love them and hope that one day time and work circumstances will allow for us to get a dog again. Anyway, I thought I’d say ‘hi’. I hope you’re all having a lovely weekend, despite the grey weather.

    Agloworm..

Welcome I hope your first week has gone well..it does get easier after a few weeks…..get already for the summer clothes with a new wardrobe…pass by and join in it really makes it easier..

    Good luck
    Jean x

    Dave…
I wondered why it’s raining it must of sounded very good….😂

    You are very brave….
    X

Hello I hope I can join your group, I have just joined and am starting my 5:2 journey I have done every diet known but never been able to stick to it, I got the book yesterday and I am determined to maintain a healthy eating plan as i need to for my health, well a little bit about me. My name is Maire which is Gaelic for Mary I am from Scotland, Married and mum to two grown up sons who have flown the nest, my love apart form food is cats. I hope to get to know you all

    Evening everyone

Welcome to the new ladies, this is a very supportive group with lots of experience of 5:2.

I thought I’d better show my face, been lurking in the shadows too long, but I have been keeping up date with all the posts. Not fasted for such a long time, and can’t remember the last time I experienced hunger so getting back into 5:2 may take some doing. Last week I went back to cutting out sugar and treats, has served me well in the past and trying to be especially good until Easter. Hannah and I are also going veggie for Lent, so I may be shouting for help with meal ideas when we’ve exhausted our research.

Too much to comment on since I posted last, but Jean, have to say Charlie sounds wonderful. Did make me laugh when I read about his exploits in the muddy pond, don’t get that with cats or a dog like mine who prefers to cuddle on the sofa.
So, I’m a few pounds up from where I was this time last year, and if I want to get down to the weight I was in the summer it will take some doing. I needed a little break, lots on in work with my new job and all my old colleagues now having left, but now I’m ready to start again. Not sure when I’ll fast, but will try and do a couple of ‘light days’ each week as a start.

2 holidays booked, a week in Bulgaria in August and 5 days in New York in October, so need to get myself motivated or I’ll regret it later in the year.
End of long rambling post, hope to pop by more frequently now.

    Take care

    Lynne x

Lynne- welcome back! Not managed to maintain very well either😉 think of you often, hope the girls are okay & the new job is good? The holidays sound good!
Agloworm & Tia-maire- welcome to both of you, & hope that you get on okay- the support here is really good, it’s nice to fast together!
Dave- glad you had a good night, & enjoyed all the footie…
Mum enjoyed herself, except I won at rummikub! Xena has been really good, did lots with her before mum came so she’d be worn out, it worked!
Hope storm Freya doesn’t keep everone awake tonight, especially all you from Scotland, getting pretty windy here…

Not got the courage to watch the video of my singing escapade, still got it though 😀. Welcome to the new girls, another Mancunian on here.My son has been busy in Berlin,he has been to watch two ice hockey games and one football match.

Up early today, Heidi has got the runs so only water for her today,no food.Hope she is alright. She was very quiet yesterday.I go to the diet class later and then return a couple of hours later for exercising.Fast day today so not good that I got up so early.

    Morning All..
A better day the wind and rain has left us…

We are fasting today, a bit naughty over the weekend…chocolate and wine…

    Maire..
Lovely to have you on board and welcome…it’s tricky for a couple of weeks to get in the swing but best way of life ever….like you I tried every diet going, I took two carrier bags of diet books to charity shop as this is the best one going…pop by every day and get to know us it really does help with the support…

    Lynne..
How lovely to have you back..a few have gone missing but always in our thoughts…two lovely holidays to look forward to, a carrot to aim for to loose any extra weight…😂..a few of us in that direction ..I have 7 lbs to loose on Xmas and holiday weight…hope the girls are well…Charlie is very different to my dear Symba, he keeps us on our toes.

    Hedgehog..
Lovely to have your mum over and have a nice game evening…managed to tire Xena out too..raining hard on our walk last night but my gear was ok kept me dry….

    Dave..
Be brave and watch the video…it might be the last song you sing live 😂

Taking Charlie to the caravan this morning to leave his sent about, taking bedding and laundry up, see where his bed will go when we go away….I have a second set of carpets, which we will put down so can throw away later if needed.

Lots of hospital appointments this week and next, so will be about when I can…dentist too, dog training too…a busy few days…

Have a good fast day everyone..

    Jean x

Good morning all thanks for the lovely welcome, well on day two and so far so good going to fast on Tuesday and Friday this week just need to get the OH out of the habit of offering me goodies I told him I was healthy eating and he asked why that I looked great, god love him he needs to go to specsavers just been to the gym and I am going to start back doing yoga and going to leave the car and walk more. going to do a bit of searching for some vegi dishes as I have gone right off meat

hope every one has a lovely day

    Thanks for the welcome @symba7, @hedgehogs, @brads27 and @pashaw

@pashaw – your trips away sound wonderful. I absolutely live to travel! My hubby and I just booked to go to NYC for our 10th wedding anniversary in September. I can’t wait. I’ve set myself goals to get my weight down, with the first being our dating anniversary in May and the second being our wedding anniversary, so I hope that’s enough motivation for me to succeed. Good luck with your goals.

@brads27 – I saw your comment about MCR airport charging for drop off now. It’s ridiculous isn’t it. It’s so annoying. There is a free drop off spot where you can get the free shuttle in, but it takes that bit longer. What’s your son doing in Berlin? That’s a great city!

Hi @tia-maire – it’s nice to have another newbie on here. Today completes my first week on 5:2. Good luck with your first week. Keep us posted on how you’re doing.

Belated morning to you all! Busy start for me as Xena was making up for being well behaved last night! Did get a pile of ironing done & she’s had a good walk & training at home.
Dave- hope Heidi is better soon, & it’s short lived. Will you still walk her? Hope the exercise class goes well.
Jean- hope that they can find out what’s up with Steve & help him. Enjoy the caravan visit is sucessful for Charlie!
Lynne- hope your low days ease you back in…
Aglow- nice to have a break to look forward to! We’re just doing short breaks in the UK this summer, will see how our pup gets on at the dogsitters.
Tia- good for you doing yoga & gym! I’ve borrowed a 5:2 veggie recipes book from the library which was good, but can’t remember the author!
Had black coffee up until now, need to cut down on the keto coffee!
    Stay strong fasters!

My son went to Berlin to watch ice hockey, and also watched a football game, his plane landed about an hour ago so he will get the tram and bus to get home.I went to the diet class at belle Vue but nobody turned up, maybe it got cancelled. Will go back at 3pm for exercising.May find out what’s happening then.

    Hi All…
Still going strong both of us busy…just having a coffee…took Charlie to the caravan he was a bit unsettled we sat for a bit, putting things away…our battery is totally flat, a bit unusual as it’s a new one so it’s on charge at home..Steve doesn’t know whether our charger will be good enough to power it up 😬

We went to see where the dog trainer lives only about 20 mins away so organised for Wednesday …

    Maire..
Good luck for Tuesday and Friday plan ahead….

    Aglo..
Your trip to New York sounds exciting..will it be for shopping…we live to travel…but long trips are possibly over for us due to hubby not being well…might push another in…that’s why we have just bought Charlie our Dalmatian UK holidays for us now…

    Hedgehog..
Do you do a lot of training at home? I am holding off until after Wednesday..so I don’t get confused and for him…..hoping we can get answers for Steve, everything is so slow…leaving the pup behind on holidays..I can see me getting upset about that, especially our 4 days away in July 😬😬

    Dave..
Hoping Heidi is feeling better..sorry I missed that earlier…have a good excerise afternoon..

Chicken salad tonight for us…feeling hungry at the moment…

    Jean x

I feel very hungry now, feel a little sick.Denise is sat next to me having her lunch.Poor Heidi is drinking water.I won’t feed her today but if she is no better will go to the vets,It’s not looking good.😪😪😪

    Dave..
Is it more than an upset tummy?….hope all is well..
    X

Hi @symba7. There may be a little bit of shopping in NYC, but primarily it is to go to see the sights and enjoy the food and drink! I love Dalmatians – that sounds like a lovely alternative if the long trips are no longer an option 😃

We have all finished now…a good day…settling down now for the evening…fasting next Thursday…

    Aglowworm…
I have never been to New York it sounds different holiday…my daughter lives in Louisiana and now in the process of selling her house and moving to Texas, so hopefully I will go there hoping Steve will come at least once or I shall have to go on my own….depends on insurance for him…

    Jean x

@symba7 it’s an amazing city! We went last October too but I was working most of the time. We absolutely fell in love with the place though. I can’t wait to go back and not have to work.

    Have a great evening.

Aglow- went a long time ago, backpacking so had the scary experience of greyhound bus station! The Statue of Liberty was great, but I think you can’t go right up it now? Did the Empire State building, no shopping, we were poor!!
Jean- I’m sure Charlie will love the caravan when you go, being outside, things to see…I do some training with Xena every day, reinforcing what we do at the class, & teaching a few new tricks. She does need to keep busy! We’ve been in touch with another dog sitter so we have another option for her, hopefully can meet them soon. Hubby wants to do a few short breaks again like we did last summer…
Dave- hope Heidi picks up soon- we’ve used the paste you can get to bind them up rather than pay vets bills if she’s not too bad & you have a pet shop near you- LogicFirm was the one we used.
Had a good FD; not as much coffee as usual, had 2 chocolates left over from my birthday so well under cals & carbs, & 1lb off today!

    Evening everyone,

Aglowworm, I’ll be looking for tips when you get back from your trip, think my daughters are planning to go on a major shopping spree, but want to see all the sites as well.

Dave, hope Heidi’s better and that your son is enjoying Berlin, another city I’d like to visit.

Jean, hope the Chicken salad hits the spot. Not started back on the salads yet, still a bit chilly.

HH, Xena still seems to be a character, they’re more work than our children sometimes. Well done with the lb off.

Tia-Maria, sounds like hubby is well trained, if a little short-sighted. I’m looking a vegi dishes at the moment, trying to cut out meat for lent so could be interesting as I’m usually quite a carnivore.

Just one meal, though not that healthy, and a couple of pieces of fruit with a couple of coffees. Today was more about feeling hungry and not instantly seeking out food rather than fasting or trying to be super healthy.

Hoping to manage to not eat too much more tonight. Maybe a small piece of fruit or another hot drink. Trying not to listen to the fridge talking to me.

    Night everyone,

    Lynne x

I feel really sorry for Heidi, she keeps sitting in front of me and just staring at me,she is hungry but we have starved her today only gave her water. She looks about brighter tonight and picked her ball up.When she isn’t eating we throw her ball and she fetches it back then eats her food Will see how she is tomorrow.

    Morning All..

Back from the cardio clinic..what a miserable specialist he needs some training in patient care!!…he is sending him for a heart scan at Scunthorpe and an artery scan at Grimsby..two more days out!!…just to check him out…

Back home the boy was fussy to see us…I forgot and set our house alarm, he must of been asleep as it went off when he looked out the window as we came home….😂

    Hedgehog..
Well done on moving a pound…..it will be nice to find another sitter to have some back up….we are just going round and about this year with the caravan, trying to find woods, country parks and walks for Charlie, the awning will have to go up, we don’t always do that but need to now.

    Lynne..
It’s best to start carefully get your head on board again, it can be hard if you have been off plan a while, I found it so in the past…I am not a great lover of salads but needs must…trying to cut back through the week too…after saying that we have had two breakfasts today, we were up so early 😂😬

    Dave..
Hoping Heidi is brighter today….I think they say scrambled eggs or rice to settle them…it’s a worry..

Fitbit log for last week…Charlie and I…walked 45 miles…a bit up on the previous week.

    Jean x

Heidi has had chicken and dried food, scoffed the lot so will see how she is later.I don’t trust Fitbit stats,I have a Fitbit versa.it says I have done 3811 steps today.Had a quick walk with Heidi and shopping.I read an article about fitness trackers and most are miles out.I myself have done a test using a Fitbit, android app and a pedometer, all three were different so I don’t use my Fitbit for steps anymore, just has a smartwatch. Was lucky at Sainsbury’s got the last three cobs😁.The best tracker is probably one that uses GPS.Sunny here today but chilly.Scunthorpe seems a long way to go for an ultrasound, but a day out.Hope Steve is ok.

    Dave…
Fitbit is movement not only steps…I have walked and counted my steps mine is spot on…it’s basically saying shift and get moving and don’t be lazy!
    X

Yes I know about moving,it’s always reminding me,I too have counted and it’s never spot on.I should try it on swimming see what it like then.

HH Thursday the 18th April I will probably be going to Ipswich to watch speedway, the day before good Friday.

    Dave…
I have never tried it swimming…hope Heidi has settled down…
    X

I will count my steps when I take Heidi out soon, see if this Fitbit is more accurate than my other one.

I did the test, stepwise it was 25 out but I think it’s well out with the number of miles. To be accurate with miles you would need one that tracks by satellite, don’t know what they have on iOS but android have some, they even monitor when you are going up hill or down dale.

    Dave..
I am happy with what I have…used it for years..this is number 4….better than sat on the couch doing nothing, getting fatter and fatter……it makes me get up and move…still I have Charlie now…😂

When I first got it I was doing about 5,000 a day or less ..I was lazy….

Whether it’s clocking right or not..I am doing 14,000 to 18,000 steps now, so it’s very much higher…

I used to use map my walk but it used too much of my phone battery but only in kms..I shall have to give it a go again with this newer phone…

    Each to their own..

    X

Busy day- out to vets early with Xena, just for kennel cough vaccination as the dog boarder needs it done, then training- she was a star this week & made up for last Saturday! Been shopping while she had a sleep, then another quick walk…pancakes soon, anyone else having them?

Yes I am having pancakes 😋Jean if it gets you moving it’s a plus.HH you will have to give me a weather report if I go to Ipswich 🏝️

    Hedgehog..
Well done Xena…is she one of the oldest now…is she doing agility in the next class?..I have done some training with Charlie only basic but he did well, taken that off you….also had him off the lead on two walks only a little bit, it was quiet…

Hope he behaves himself tomorrow at his two training sessions….😬

No pancakes here…but I do like them maybe at the weekend….I did buy some Nutella..

    Jean x

Dave- will let you know the weather- a shame you’re not here for longer…hope Heidi is okay now.
Jean- Xena is the youngest in the Tuesday class, it’s for ‘juniors’. She can’t do agility until she’s a year old because of the strain on joints. We’ll do Hoopers though which is similar, & she’s going to do some more scent workshops, she enjoys that. Hope Charlie is good tomorrow!

Heidi has had chicken for her morning meal and she as salmon in her dish now,but not had it yet.I bought some of what you recommended HH. Got it from Amazon,it’s coming tomorrow.Took her out three times today but she hasn’t done anything. She is asleep at the moment.

    Morning (!) all
Sorry I’ve not been around this week yet – it’s turning out to be full-on busy just now.
Had a bit of a long weekend off being strict, but back on the wagon now. And my OH is cutting back too after standing on the scales at the weekend (a rare event for him!). So now the boy’s plate is the fullest at evening meal!
Hi to the newbies – and lovely to see you back, Lynne.

Right – the reason for beingn up at this ridiculous time – work…better get on with it!
    Mx

    Hi All

It looks like we’re back (for quite a while) to grey weather. We are in Manchester at least 😥

Does anyone else find it harder to make those healthy choices when it’s grey and wet and cold outside? I know that the weather really affects me.

I hope everyone is doing great. I realised to my dismay that my well-planned 2nd FD for tomorrow couldn’t happen because I’m going out for a curry for a mate’s birthday. My 1st FD was yesterday and I think I’m going to have another FD today – sticking to under 800 cals. Fingers crossed I can do it. I think I can.

Any tips or advice greatly appreciated. I hope you all have a great day!

    Morning All…
A drizzly morning… our one to one dog training session today and puppy class tonight..he is keeping close nearly walk time…

We were really worried last night with Charlie…he had had a very busy day walks and playtime….I think he went in a really deep sleep he stretched out like a banana, then he moved to go in a ball, I think he was still sleep, like sleep walking..he was real wobbly on his legs and jumped off the settee and fell, he was so wobbly and couldn’t walk and eyes glazed ( looked like under anethesic) I think he frightened his self..we sat up with him for a bit…then we made him stay in our bed room..he seems ok this morning. 🤞that’s all it was.

    Minols…
What an early start for you..busy head and lots to do…coming up to your busy period….take time for your self…nice the big boy joining you 😂

    Aglowworm..
Things do get in your way sometimes, just try and work round it…yes it is more difficult this cold weather, soups seem to be more about, hot meat and veggies, a spoon of gravy…really don’t look into food too hard, just cut down and keep off the carbs on a fast day…it’s a way of life not a diet, don’t make it hard for yourself…so many people do.
A few people drink oxo or bovril for a change, it has salt in it to keep away headaches, drink plenty water ( says me who doesn’t!! Naughty)

    Enjoy your curry..

    Walking soon..
    Jean x

Jean- hope Charlie is okay, sounds like you say a deep sleep then startled…another busy day for him!
    Dave- hope Heidi picks up…
Minols- poor you- I looked at tge time of your post! Hope you get everything done, & good news if OH is joining you!
Aglow- cold dreary weather is hard on a FD, I agree! Soup’s good…much easier on a bright day when you can have salad & get out more!
Tring to re-do a huge list of doctors for the website I help moderate, being a technophobe doesn’t help! A slow old job, especially with Xena’s ‘help’, bringing me toys & playing up! Off for a walk now, nothing planned, fasting day for me.

Back from my walk met a a new puppy, Charlie seemed back to normal…he wouldn’t have his harness on for some reason, he’s been not keen for a few days…he got his way this morning but I prefer it on…

    Hedgehog…
So you are a whiz kid on computers…I just get there but not too bad for my age 😂…have a good fast day…ours tomorrow, trying for a low day….I have not jumped on the scales for a sneaky look so no idea where I am…

A bit of Lidl shopping and to training…hope we get some good ideas…

    Jean x

@symba7 and @hedgehogs – thanks for the encouragement.

By the way, I notice you all use first names, rather than usernames on here, so: Hi! I’m Gerry 🙂
(I’m not sure why I’ve always spelt my name the ‘boy’s way’, but I just have and it’s stuck!)

I’ll do my best to pick up on yours as I go along!

Jean – that does sound scary. it’s awful when dogs – any pets really – are in trouble and they can’t tell you what’s wrong. I’m sure after a night of care and if he’s looking ok this morning he’ll be fine.

Soups and warming food are definitely the way to go. I had a cup of stock cube yesterday which helped to warm me up. I’ve been fine on FD so far, but I do get cold, so warming things definitely help me.

I’m off to take my students on some fieldwork visits today, so hopefully that will take my mind off things.

I hope you all have a great day. g

    Hi all,
Welcome Gerry and Tia Maire 🙂

Dave, glad that Heidi is back to normal, obviously just an upset stomach.

Jean, sounds like Charlie was in a deep sleep, bless him! You need to persevere with the harness, so its the norm. Good luck with the training and class.

Minols, that was a very early start! I hope you manage to get work sorted and under control.

HH, hows the website work going with your little helper 🐕

Im fasting too today, well Im doing 3 x 800 days, to try and get back on track. Ive been too relaxed on the snacks and drinkies recently, so time to reign things back in.
Ive just had porridge. Neil is out at work until late, so I’ll make myself something for tea, based on the salad thats in the fridge…lol
Ive got a few days off, not working until Fri, but I do have some extra shifts next week, to cover holiday, so thats ok.

Weather yuk again, so its a day indoors, pottering around for me.

    Kay x

Sat at the gym(exercising class) waiting to go in,took Heidi out and she didn’t do anything,so not sure how she is,she looks brighter so time will try.Her medicine came this morning but not given her any until I know for sure she needs it.

    Hi All…
Training session went very well lots of tips and ideas..it’s balancing between a pet and working dog…working well on the lead with sitting and staying…and emergency staying…going through doors under command…so it’s up to me to train now…then when he is 100%, we can go back to the next stage.

It will be interesting tonight on puppy class, it’s a shame it’s the same day…see what they have to say and how she trains.

    Gerry..
It’s nice if you want to use your name, I have been on here for three years so I don’t mind. Your field trip sounds exciting hoping the weather is kind to you…are you a teacher? My daughter took a heads job this year.

    Kay..
You sound as if you have been busy with your new job, hoping it’s going well..hope you get a low day in…nice you have some extra shifts in…

    Dave..
Hope the class goes well this afternoon….and Heidi is picking up.

Just got back from walking..Charlie walked brilliantly on his new short lead, I walked him to the gate were we usually walk changed to his extended lead along the old road and river bank, on return it was off lead for a bit, back on extended then as we approached the gate he went on his short lead again..I am so pleased with him…he didn’t like sitting on the wet floor but I won’t push him for that today.

    Jean x
    .

Aching,it was pretty hard today but did it all. Been a good boy and had fish for tea.Heidi seems a little better so that’s a blessing.Feet up tonight and watch the football, hockey is on but not until 2am.
