  • I read something or listened to a broadcast on fasting before chemo (or maybe it was radiation) makes it more effective because the cancer relies on sugar and it is therefore wekened when fasting drops blood glucose levels.

My old friend’s wife is about to start chemo and I can’t remember where I read this onformation and can;’t locate it again.

Does anyone have a link to this sort of info that I could send them please?
I seem to recall there was a judge in California who tried it and it made a difference when she fasted and when she didn’t, was part of the article.

    Hi Matrika,

I’m pretty sure you will have read that in the 5:2 diet book.

Fingers crossed for your friend’s wife.

    Hi Matrika:

See my 7 Sep 14 posting on this thread: https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/

Dr. Longo is doing the research. I have communicated with his research team on the matter. He also has posted some U Tube videos that you will find if you google his name.

    Hi Matrika,

As I said, you will probably have read about the research first in the diet book and that is certainly where the anecdote you refer to (the judge) can be found.

    Thanks simcoeluv. 🙂

I found a few articles written for general consumption too…sent them on, my friends are Japanese so the full on research is a bit complex.

    Appreciate the link.

HappyNow, No, I believeit was a scientific conference or research paper but thanks for responding to the question. 🙂

    Sorry about all the typos!

    Hi Matrika:

    You are welcome.

Also, here are some popular articles on the ketogenic diet and cancer treatment: http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2013/06/16/ketogenic-diet-benefits.aspx; http://www.cbn.com/cbnnews/healthscience/2012/December/Starving-Cancer-Ketogenic-Diet-a-Key-to-Recovery/

If your friend’s doctor is interested, I believe if they contact Dr. Longo via the USC website and explain the situation, they might receive additional information on the process and state of the studies.

I wish your friend much good luck!

    Thank you so much simcoeluv.
I sent on the links and they are very grateful as am I. 🙂

I had chemo this time last year. I had been on the 5:2 diet prior to being diagnosed with cancer.. interestingly my tumour grew rapidly after I had hit my target weight and stopped fasting.

When I had chemo I tried to discuss the advantages of fasting prior to chemo with my oncologist as I had been reading about Dr Longo. He was not interested and I felt foolish for bringing it up. I saved this link http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2014/06/140605141507.htm

But what I will say and probably be criticized for is I believe more than anything that meditation is incredibly important for healing.

Also during chemo I put on 2 stone in weight due to the steroids increasing my appetite plus a lack of exercise. I am now on the 5:2 diet. Whereas before I lost a pound a week I now only lose half that amount. I have had a complete hysterectomy and put this down to a lack of hormones. I have been back on the diet since last September and have only lost 13 pounds.
