  • Hi everyone, I started the 5:2 fasting on January 2nd with a full 24 hrs on around 450 calories (fruit and raw carrot). Completed the second day yesterday 6/1 on about the same calories. The second day was easier than the first day and I could have easily continued but we already had prepared a delicious chicken tikka meal in advance. Yummie!
During the fasting day I get a sort of “healthy feeling” (more in mind than body) knowing that you are eating up fatty deposits from the body and flushing out the systems with water. A bit like flushing out the lubricating oil system and fuel system in the engine of a car.
But the most amazing difference was in blood pressure. My diastolic (resting pressure) was down to 78 from 90 previous week. I had to take it several times to believe it and then we checked my wife’s blood pressure to make sure the instrument was ok. It was! I always take around 5 to 10 readings and then calculate the average and it really was down to 78. I know this was listed as one of the benefits of fasting but I didn’t expect such drastic changes. Has anybody else experienced any of these changes? Look forward to your replies.

I haven’t checked my BP but have noticed my heart rate fall while fasting. Weird… but good!

Hi, I noticed the same. A drop in pulse rate during and after fasting. This is normal I guess. It will be interesting to see the results on pulse rate, blood pressure and cholesterol over a longer period 🙂 Mike.
