  • Is anyone else doing the fast diet primarily for health benefits rather than weight loss?

I definitely do not want to lose weight as my BMI is 18. I am fit and active and very well, but I want to improve the outlook for the older me in terms of ageing.

My normal energy intake is about 1375 calories a day so I am wondering should I aim for less than the recommended 500 calories, i.e. to equate to a quarter of my normal intake?

I also only do 6:1, just started last week. Thursday is my chosen day.

Would love to have some feedback
    Thanks!

    Hiya Caterpillar girl,

If you’re already at a good BMI then you do want to be sure you don’t accidentally lose any weight and the maintenence threads would be a good place to check out, just incase you find that you start doing that and want to see what others are doing.

However, if you don’t actually need the calorie reduction then you can lose the actual full day completely if you want and just fast for as long as you can once or twice a week but definitely more than 15-16 hours. It’s the length of fast that delivers the IGF-1 benefit rather than the calorie deficit. So if you fast for more than 16-16 hours once or twice a week you should get many of the benefits without needing to drop your actual calorie allowance on those days (just eat later).

    Good luck.
