  • Day 14 – Canada 🇨🇦 – NFD

Good morning everybody and happy Saturday. The scales are up a bit today – 133.2 – no doubt because of a salty veggie burger yesterday. No worries.

I’ll be joining you @brightonbelle with “ a steady weekend FD Monday and then super good week”

Foggy morning but perfect for tennis. Take care all.

    Day 14 – UK – TDEE

After a controlled week and a 2nd FD500 yesterday I was rewarded with the scales showing 57.5kg a drop of 0.7kg/1.5lbs for the week – a total of 1.5kg/3.3lbs dispatched since the start of the challenge 💃 I’m grateful to @stitchincarol for her RESOLVE motto this month and I am hoping to hang on to mine for the rest of this challenge 🤞

So aiming for a good TDEE day which will include my reward of a couple of these 🍷 with dinner tonight, all now calculated on MFP which tells me how many calories I can have for the rest of the day – so far on track as only consumed a couple of cups of tea with some semi skimmed milk

@stitchincarol – my DD used to live down south and I only saw her a few times a year but she moved up here and met her now husband so she is settled in Cumbria too – I love being able to see her every week or two as we are close 👩‍❤️‍👩
@funshipfreddie – nice to come out of the casino in credit!

Lovely morning here but still rather cool – walked to the other side of the village to see a friend who is isolating before her hip replacement op on Monday – spoke to her through her window and dropped her a book – ROAR by Cecilia Ahern – a fiercely feminist story collection that illuminates, sometimes in fantastical ways, how women of all kinds navigate the world today – I thought short stories would be easy to navigate whilst she recovers from the op and the effects of the anaesthetic!

A fab weekend to all and stay motivated in your RESOLVE for this August Aspirations 2021 Challenge!

Day 14 OMAD ( who am I trying to kid…) Barcelona

I’m having gazpacho for brunch EVERY single day. No bread so I don’t feel too bad. I just love it.
I’ve finally got over the robbery – just avoiding the metro and the Ramblas, where most mischief seems to happen. Only having gazpacho, then an evening meal around 9, but alcohol is being taken so I guess that won’t help matters.
@funshipfreddie – lucky win! Don’t plough it back into the casino… I have read that book you mentioned – worth reading. Anything that keeps me on track is worth reading😁😁😁

    Day 14 / Florida 🇺🇸 / NFD

Sorry for this bit of venting coming up, but I’m sure some of you have been in this spot & will understand!
I’m feeling frustrated & need to do as @stitchincarol advises and RESOLVE to go back to basics of 5:2.

I need to clear out all the other “diet rules” bouncing around my brain!
It’s a constant buzz of conflicting “shoulds”:
I should count calories, track macros, cut out wine, eliminate wheat gluten, fast daily for 18 + hours, cut out carbs, follow a strictly Clean Fast, attempt 4:3, eat only OMAD (one meal a day), get in vigorous exercise daily, etc etc etc… It can get maddening!!

All these different protocols are impossible to adhere to at once. And so I end up floundering around between them all. This results in the same couple of pounds bobbing up & down without any actual progress. For months!!

It is now 6 weeks until my Birthday. During this time I RESOLVE to give myself grace.
Stop stressing about the 100’s of different ways to lose weight & change my body…instead I’ll gently accept myself as I am currently, just as I would for a friend. And concentrate ONLY on adhering to just the BASICS of 5:2.

    Keeping it simple! 😃👍🏼

    Day 14 Canada NFD

Yesterday’s post vanished, that is annoying and I will need to be more careful posting!

The recovery is going slowly and the weight is dropping which is nice. Small portions of really healthy food are all I am up for and definitely no vino. Wildfire smoke has been incredibly thick here for weeks and today is looking particularly threatening, high temps and winds have many communities on high alert. I will be thinking of the firefighters throughout the day. Indoor day so will be relying on Leslie Sansone to get the blood moving.

@happymargo that sounds like a pep talk not a rant

    Have a great weekend!

Day 14 – Rural Nebraska, USA – Unknown

I’m currently in negotiations with my inner self as to how much I get to eat today; max will be TDEE, and how much less than that will be determined after I’ve done some mental menu planning. 😉 Yesterday’s eating was a couple hundred calories over plan; oddly enough, when I was busy making a few poor choices I forgot–FORGOT!–my chant. Amazing how quickly we can abandon our own intentions! So I’m moving on, and being more diligent than ever about chanting, “Resolve!” The scale has been irritatingly uncooperative, but am fairly certain I can feel virtuous about what I’ve been eating, and just keep on keeping on.

The need for such restraint today is because tomorrow is DH’s 67th and the boys and I have all sorts of food and fun planned for the entire day, and I don’t want to destroy my progress, nor have to show much in the way of restraint. So, huge restraint today.

@funshipfreddie How fun, congratulations! You gonna spend some of your winnings on that book? I just got it and look forward to reading it.

@brightonbelle Welcome back, and so glad you had such a great time.

@dvw No wonder you’re doing so well with nearing maintenance, with tennis so often; have fun playing!

@at I’m so delighted you’re making such progress, and so pleased RESOLVE has been helpful to you in the process; you’re reclaiming your former strong habits, so I’m sure you’ll manage wonderfully the rest of the month.

@emma-taylor And of COURSE you’re having gazpacho every single day; this is the time of year to do so. There are fewer than 100 calories in a serving; you can go back to a strict OMAD when you get back to London. 🤗

@happymargo The other night, I was brushing my teeth and giving myself a gentle scold for eating more than I should have. “Wait!” said I, “no you didn’t! You had exactly what you planned, and it came to only 457 calories. Why do you feel so guilty???” Good question, huh? Isn’t it amazing what we do to ourselves? Here’s a suggestion that, if you have time for it, may help: every day, post what you plan to eat, and the next day report the calories, and how close you were to goal. Such a public accounting of your success will perhaps make your subconscious see what a terrific job you’re doing, and help stop the yo-yoing and move you consistently down. Think? Or choose any combination of those steps that seem reasonable to you. We’ve got you!

@bellyblast How delightful that the weight continues to drop for you; you’re going to have some VERY strong habits built by the time you’re completely recovered. Your wildfire smoke has been in our air for all those weeks, obscuring the sunsets in a dramatic way. I hope everyone stays safe!

I am so wonderfully, tantalizingly close to finishing all 156 blocks of my current quilt. There’s still a long process after that of sewing all the blocks together (it will likely take ten to fifteen hours to do all that, and then more hours for borders), but it’s such a lovely milestone to complete the blocks that I’m quite excited, and that’s absolutely on my agenda today. Then it’s some tidying, grocery shopping, and organ practicing for tomorrow, and that will pretty much eat up my whole day.

And through the entire day, I’m going to remember to be Thin Me and chant “Resolve!” as loudly and frequently as I need to accomplish my goals for the day. Will you join me?

    Pocket List – Day 14 🍒
    @funshipfreddie

    Day 14 – USA/GA – NFD

Weigh-in: 224. I’m averaging a pound gain per week since the start of the month. Trying to get my body used to the standard 5:2 WOL and looking what I can cut out. But things happen. I have to learn to control the things I can (home alone) and make small decisions when eating out (water instead of tea or coke; save something for later in the day; etc). And lots of water and fresh raw vegetables and fruit in the summer months while fresh.

Hoping the upward trend reverses and the plateau figures itself out in time. So far this year has been a drop of about 10 lbs, give or take. Talk about a major slow down; my body slammed on the brakes!

    Good luck to you all

    Day 14 USA – NFD

Had a nice meal out last evening, and quite smartly had a good pesto salmon. Yes, a glass of wine was involved, and a few bites of cheesecake for dessert.

@funshipfreddie – congratulations on your good casino win! I guess I am glad I have never enjoyed that pastime as it certainly has saved me money. I looked up that Fasting book on Amazon, and indeed the cover shows the beneficial effects of our WOL!

@brightonbelle – so glad you were able to have a lovely trip.

@happymargo – your resolve sounds terrific, and also one of those necessary steps in our path

@bellyblast – so sorry you’re dealing with all the smoky 🔥 fires, as are we across the USA. Lord willing, the fires will be under control soon. Sounds to me like your resolve will help in all sorts of ways.

@northgeorgia – your resolve sounds excellent.

@stitchincarol – I am confident your 156 blocks will all get done very soon, but taking time off for your DH’s 67 is important too. Enjoy your family time!

    Onward and downward.

@ Bellyblast Haha! I like your view of it being a pep talk. Yes! Gave myself a little shake & a refocus.
Glad you are taking care & healing up! Weight loss is just a silver lining.

    @funshipfreddie Woot-woot! Congrats on the $$ win!
I’ve read Unbelievable Freedom on Kindle & have followed their progress since. Very kind & relatable people. They really went the the weight-gain & loss ringer. I root for their continued success!

@stitchincarol ooohh! Good luck on that quilt. And DH’s birthday celebrations!

And “Thank you” for the kind words & suggestion. I’m definitely not giving up, just streamlining & simplifying the number of rules to deal with:
    ( 1 ) – follow the basic 5:2 to the letter
( 2 ) – check in & keep up with this motivating thread daily.
My birthday is at the end of September. At that time I will evaluate my progress & tweak my plan then.

@emma Taylor I’ve never been robbed. Sounds scary! And replacing all the cards & I.D. would be, as you said, quite a hassle. I hope the rest of your holiday is going wonderfully!

@northgeorgia I feel your frustration. Hope we both get this 5:2 train back on track. I honestly believe if I work the plan, the plan will work. (Allowing for tweaks needed for our individual bodies & situations.). Hang in there!

    Day 14 Minnesota, US NFD

I had a very busy day yesterday and actually fell asleep watching tv, then woke after midnight, so, too late then to post.

I had “the aftertaste of regret” from accepting ( and enjoying) the gummy worms my granddaughters felt they needed to share with me. Gosh, I have such a hard time refusing that yummy flavored sugary stuff when it’s offered to me. And then I found myself going overboard with eating later in the evening, of course. I am planning a reasonable NFD today with protein and vegetables, and perhaps a glass of vino. Protein and veg tomorrow, no wine. And I RESOLVE to have an excellent FD on Monday, and also on Thursday of this next week.

@at – I think I’m going to try your method of entering my planned foods for the day into MFP in the mornings, so I can see what I am actually going to eat and the amounts to keep to. And to “see” any extra calories that I can cut out because they aren’t really worth it to me for taste and enjoyment.

@stitchincarol – I’m excited for you to finish up your quilt….it’s a huge moment of achievement! Happy BD to your DH tomorrow, and just enjoy the whole day. I am confident that you will experience something of a whoosh in the next weeks to reward your persistence. We know that often happens, and sometimes it takes 2-3 weeks of lower calories to really show up on the scale. You aren’t in any rush, are you?

@happymargo – You know what to do, really….you’ve done it before, and it doesn’t have to be complicated. Just mind your calories on NFDs (stay at TDEE), and stay under 500 on your FDs. That’s it. You will lose about 1/2 lb a week doing that, on average. If you want a faster loss, then you have to decrease your TDEE to your goal weight, and maybe do like we all did about 5 years ago, and do FDs of 1/4 to 1/3 of your TDEE. You’ve got this!

@emma-taylor – I am making gazpacho today! Thanks for the reminder of how good and low calorie it is (minus the pureed bread).

With persistence, time is on our side. Stay positive!

    Day 15 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD

Another smallish drop on the scales, 0.3 kgs, after a successful FD.

Thanks for the book recommendation @happymargo, @emma-taylor. And yes, @stitchincarol, I’ll splash out some of my winnings on the book. It’s also paying for my flights to/from the Eastern Cape next week, & for Boo Boo’s 6 night stay at The Cat’s Whiskers, a local cattery. She will not be impressed, & I feel guilty already 😳

    Happy S🌞nday!

    Day 15 – Canada 🇨🇦 – NFD

Good morning. Scales up a bit today – 133.4 – I indulged in licorice all-sorts yesterday and it’s showing up today 😬. Oh well. As you say @stitchincarol I’ll just keep on keeping on.

Great news @at, I admire your determination 👌.
@northgeorgia – a 10 lb drop is fantastic. You should be very proud of yourself.

    Take care all.

    Day 15/ Florida 🇺🇸/ NFD

Usually I’m a member of ZBC (zero breakfast club.) Normally not even hungry before 10:00 or 11:00 AM at the earliest. But today a group of friends/ neighbors are meeting up for a birthday celebration out at a yummy local restaurant.

When my DH wants breakfast there, I happily enjoy just the coffee & sharing his company. But I think for this group of ladies, out to cheer on the birthday girl, just sipping coffee might feel weird. Hmm?

I think I’ll do as @at and @northerndawn have mentioned…. I’ll pre-enter my breakfast choices (plus food for the rest of the day too) into my Lose It app. This will help to hold me to healthier selections & stay at or below TDEE.

That’s why we come here, for the kind support & great ideas!!!
Enjoy the rest of the weekend

    Day 15 USA – NFD

Happy keeping at maintenance – yeah for that. I had an abundance of mushrooms in the fridge, so we had mushroom swiss burgers (open face, no bun) with salad last night. Sure tasted good. Had a lovely peach with a scoop of ice cream for dessert. I always sleep well with a little ice cream for a night time snack..

@happymargo – I’m with you about ZBC not really being hungry. But I do enjoy eggs, even if I eat them more like a brunch. Enjoy your time out with the girls!

@dvw – many people say licorice is a “hate it or love it” kind of taste. I do enjoy it, but thankfully I seldom buy it.

    Onward and downward.

    Day 15 – USA/GA – NFD

    Mid-month reflection.

Weigh-in: 224 lbs. I broke down and did an estimated calorie count of what I ate yesterday. It was a short list; in the back of my mind I think I still equate low quantity with mindfulness, but I’ll demonstrate how that isn’t an effective system in a moment.

It was ZBC yesterday, so I didn’t really eat until later in the morning. After grocery shopping, I had a small sandwich on a pretzel bun and a few Doritos. Then I remembered there was a serving of leftover chicken/shrimp/rice/cheese sauce/tortilla chips from the Mexican restaurant, and had that. Cola to drink, naturally. I had a couple of slices of frozen pizza later in the afternoon, and a bowl of cereal at forbidden hours (8 pm). Some occasional snacks: grapes, an apple, an egg, nuts, hummus, on the good side, Triscuits, cheese, and pizza rolls on the not so good side.

Now, before I did this, I calculated some of my regular favorites. I also divided the calories by 100 to make it easier to count (almost like a Weight-Watchers system, but not to that extreme). For me, 2,000 kCal should be the TDEE of around 180 lbs or so, so for now, my goal is “20 points.” I saw that my banana-oatmeal breakfast is 4 of those points, which I didn’t have yesterday. I made a short list of those “favorite” foods I tend to eat, then proceeded to journal out yesterday’s intake. I estimated everything to the nearest quarter point (an egg = .75 points; those two slices of pizza? 5 points). I knew I probably ate “a little more” than I should have with the excess snacking and late night cereal. But did I guess I consumed between 3,000-3,500 calories in a day where i skipped breakfast? YIKES!!!!

The mystery of the 2021 plateau may be solved. The FDs are just low enough to average out to my current TDEE of around 2200 – 2300 calories. I have just made a spreadsheet of estimates, where I plug in my two 500 FDs. I have added 3500 calorie weekends, a 3000 calorie Friday, and the other two NFDs register 2500 calories in order to make an approximate 2300 calorie TDEE average for maintenance at the 225 lb weight level. My gosh, what was I eating per day when I did 4:3???
I don’t even want to look.

Fridays and Saturdays may be difficult for me. It appears if I find 500 calories to cut out on Sundays and weekday NFDs, I could get within 70 calories or so of the 2,000 TDEE average. That comes with its own challenges, as often folks at work want to eat out once a week. Another scenario which puts me right at the 2,000 TDEE average is reduce Sundays, Fridays, and the NFD work-lunch day to 2,500 calories, and the other NFD to 2,000 calories (keep Saturday at the crazy 3,500 calorie level for the common weekend overdoing and “oopsies” during the week). That will mean on the day I take my lunch, I need to really analyze what’s in the box.

It also means I need to migrate away from convenience grocery food (sorry, the frozen pizzas were on sale!! I don’t normally buy those), and think about healthy NFD suppers I can cook in advance. I also need to find and do weekend projects that keep me away from the TV and the refrigerator — I have plenty to do.

2021 has been a disappointing plateau after the great success in starting the WOL in 2020. However, thankfully, it’s been just a plateau and the battle for mindfulness has a new strategy. Quality over quantity; satisfying and filling meals over empty calorie re-stuffing throughout the day. Getting a handle on how many calories are in that “little something,” vs how few calories may be in that “bigger something.” This WOL helps instigate change for healthier habits, but I have to go the extra mile and implement those habits on NFDs, too.

    Day 15 Canada NFD

After an incredibly eerie day yesterday where the smoke turned the sky shades of green and then amber and it was impossible to see, we have patches of blue sky this morning. Off for my first walk outside in 2.5 weeks. Not interested in food but nibbling on healthy snacks throughout the day, finally feeling like I am moving towards recovery and so happy to be doing that lighter than I started. Resolve is a fitting motivator for me @stitchincarol.

    Have a great day

Day 15 – Rural Nebraska, USA – MFD

Just saying hi; haven’t read a word of any posts because we’re busy with DH’s birthday

    Have a grand day, everyone!

    Day 16, NFD, Aus

Our lockdown has just been extended another fortnight. FDs just don’t seem to be on my radar at the moment. Last year’s lockdown mojo and healthy exercise routine seem impossible.

    Focus. Resolve. Mindfulness. Repeat.

And another part of my brain is saying ‘be gentle on yourself’ which is code for ‘do what you want!’

    I love gazpacho, @EmmaTaylor. Enjoy!

And I need to re-read @NorthGeogia’s and @stictchincarol’s posts for good reminders about what i s required for a successful WOL.

    Day 16 – Ireland 🇮🇪 – NFD

Planning a mindful day, the weekend was fairly successful food wise, and although not planning an FD today it might end up being one, depending what happens at lunchtime.

You see, at lunchtime I am popping home to my house to see if a registered letter arrived for DH. If it has, and we are not there, it will go to our village post office for collection. If it has arrived, I am to ring DH immediately and he will leave work immediately.

Why? His birth mom is writing him a letter and enclosing photos and sending it directly to him by registered mail. The excitement is so much. He will get to see what she looks like, her full name, her address, her handwriting, see photos of his half brother and sister….things he knew nothing about less than three weeks ago.

So obviously I am on standby to be his emotional crutch because he is going to need it. His birth mom told the social worker that she could see the family resemblance in the photos he had sent her. DH was so happy to hear that. Now they will start communicating directly.

So absolutely nothing 5:2 related in my post but I plan to be mindful.

Have a great Monday. If no letter today then the same routine tomorrow and I wil make today the FD.

    Day 16 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD

@daffodil2010 – exciting news! 🤞 that letter arrives today!

@northgeorgia – isn’t it an eye-opener when you start totting up those calories?! Even a guess-timate, like you did. Unfortunately it’s a necessary evil, at least until you reach your goal. And I think for most people, to maintain too. I like your simplified point system. Maybe you could invent your own app? Anyway, I’m sure your new strategy to beat that plateau will be a success 🥊

Very quiet here! @i-hate-lettuce must be off that boat by now?!

Aspirational August Part 2 – have a great week everyone.

    Day 16 UK FD

Ok August pt2 – the reset !Need to get my act together and get back on the straight and narrow so <500 cals FD today and DTF and want to get back to my exercise 💪

Oh @daffodil2010 please keep us posted 🤞

It can be a real shock can’t it @northgeorgia – I try to accurately record but can’t help slipping into bad habits and being a bit “forgetful” why I don’t know but another thing I’m aiming to get better on
Have a god week all, I’ll kick off the PL

    Day 16 Pocket List 🦁
    @brightonbelle

    Day 16 – UK – FD

Hi all, I’ve been MIA the last few days. I’m sad to say I REALLY struggled on my 2nd FD last week – the hormones got the better of me and I just felt way too ‘off’ to fast, so only managed a 6:1 last week. Have also had a very social weekend for the first time in a very long time, seeing friends & family across two days so no chance of doing a weekend FD either.

I’m trying hard no to berate myself and slip into that cycle of all or nothing thinking…. 5:2 is a way of life right? So I’m back on the wagon today with a FD…. back in my comfort zone of chicken soup early afternoon and a veggie chilli this evening! lol 🙂

I woke up with a real stomach ache this morning where I clearly ate too many rich foods this weekend, but the somewhat positive is that the scales have only gone up by 3/4 of a lb since my last FD. I’ll take that.

I’ve not put my goals out there yet but there’s no time like the present – I want to be 6lb down by the middle of September, which is our anniversary. That will take my comfortably into the next stone bracket down.

@happymargo – I’ve just seen your post about going back to basics and having all those other thoughts etc circling in your head. I’m right here doing the same. I’ve already talked myself out of a 4:3 this week or B2B fast days today and tomorrow to ‘make up’ for the indulgence over the past 4 days!

    Day 16 Pocket List 🦁
    @brightonbelle
    @babs_b

    Day 16 – USA/GA – FD

Weigh-in: 224 lbs. After my epiphany, I’ve managed to stay 224 lbs all weekend long. I think I stayed within or near my “20” points yesterday. I’m 2 lbs lighter over last Monday. Come on, 220. I haven’t seen you since July 18. Hoping you’ll pop up again this week. The 210s will be mine. I’m resolved.

Got to run! Good luck to everyone!

    Day 16 Pocket List 🦁
    @brightonbelle
    @babs_b
    @northgeorgia

    Day 16 Minnesota, US FD

This week will be quite busy and I hope to post daily, but some days may be short posts. DD and her family are on vacation until next Sunday, and I will drive to her home daily and check on things, feed and water her cats, water their flowers daily and their large vegetable garden a couple times. We are all still in a drought here, so watering is necessary and time consuming. also have my own garden to tend, and a couple of appointments this week to travel to. Somewhere within all of that, I’d really like to get back to my long (or at least a half an hour) daily walks. The air here is less smoky and the mornings are cooler than even a week ago.

@bellyblast – Enjoy your blue skies and your walk. This summer has been so strange with all of the heat, drought, and eerie, smoky skies! Not to mention irritating to the respiratory system. I’m glad you’re feeling up to getting out.

@at – I have my FD foods all pre-entered in MFP today. I already feel like that will keep me on the right path for a very good FD.

@northgeorgia – The self knowledge and enlightenment that comes with this WOL is one of the greatest benefits of doing 5:2, in my opinion. I have learned, for instance, that this will be a “forever” journey for me, with both successes and struggles. But if I wasn’t doing this (and I am basically maintaining over the last 3 months or so), I would have gained, I KNOW. So, maintenance is still a win, as far as I’m concerned. I know I will gradually lose more as long as I stick with it and put in the effort. It’s worth it to me for my health. It sounds like you are finding your way to success.

@daffodil2010 – What an emotional and exciting time for you and your DH. Hugs to you both, and to his bio-mother as well. I hope this is a time of grace and blessing for all of you.

@stitchincarol – I hope you enjoyed your celebrations!

@songbirdme – I have plenty of mushrooms that need to be cooked and your swiss steak sounds like a good dinner for tomorrow night!

Day 16 USA – NFD (CD I hope)

Hope everyone’s Monday and new weeks are successful and mindful! We have several appointments this week, today DH getting his dental implants in. We pray all fits and he can eat more comfortably. It’s been quite a while in the process.

@penz – I have an Aussie friend up at the Gold Coast who has said the lockdowns and border crossing issues have wrecked havoc in their lives. Hugs to you dealing with this new outbreak and situation.

@northgeorgia – prayers that your epiphany of eating (and TDEE work) is successful for you. The whole concept of points and WW dieting is something that has always puzzled me, mostly because I’ve never done WW. Here’s to your new resolve! 🥂

@northerndawn – enjoy your swiss steak – I used up our mushrooms (well, many of them) doing burgers topped with sautéed mushrooms and Swiss cheese. DH loves any kind of burger, probably would eat them 5 times a week, so I try to find new ways that are tasty.

@stitchincarol – so glad you and your family birthday party went well!

    Onward and downward.

    Day 16 Canada CD

I am really not interested in food at the moment so am at about 1000 cal a day, with everything that has gone on I am now down 3.9kg since July 1:)
@babs_b glad you are back. This is not an all or nothing WOL and 6:1 last week is way better than 7:0

Take care and good luck to those fasting

Day 16 – Rural Nebraska, USA – FD

DH’s birthday celebration was so much fun yesterday. We started out at a shooting range (I just read in the car, figuring a little dad/sons time was called for) then we went to a liquor store that has a bar area, and each got a drink and then wandered the store and spent a LOT of money, LOL, then went out for raw oysters on the half shell, then went to the apartment of DS24 (who lives in Omaha) and had the glorious 4-layer cake he’d made (this is the kid who’s in culinary school, and it showed) along with champagne, and played some pinochle, and then took scooters to a cigar bar and sat outside on the patio while DH and DS29 had cigars and whiskey until almost ten o’clock. And the entire time, we talked and talked and talked and talked. What a glorious thing when you can socialize with your children and love every minute; that was undoubtedly the best birthday present of all.

And the scale is up more than I’d like, so it’s a very good thing today is a FD.

@songbirdme Pesto salmon sounds quite lovely!

@happymargo How’d the breakfast go yesterday?

@northerndawn Am I in any rush? Not really…but this resolve is only going to hold out for so long if I don’t get any results to encourage me along, you know? And I’d like to be at least twelve pounds down by Christmas, when we go to California for a week with my gathered family. That’s a completely reasonable goal of only three pounds a month between now and then, but so far, nothing is happening, which has been my approximate story for an entire year now, and pretty soon that completely reasonable goal of at least twelve pounds will be a very ambitious goal unless pounds start dropping off. So, I’ll see what results I get this week, and then figure out what I need to “fix.” And your comment, “with persistence, time is on our side,” is a good thing to remember when my resolve begins to get a bit wobbly. Have fun with your VERY busy week this week; watering two different gardens will be time consuming.

@funshipfreddie Flying to the Eastern Cape next week? Oh, do tell! Is this a vacation, then? What’s it like there?

@dvw Move day is this week, right? Today? Tomorrow? I hope it all goes perfectly, and nothing gets broken or marred in the process!

@bellyblast Your eerie skies comment brings home just how impactful the fires are for you. And only 1000 calories a day? Wowza, honey, no wonder you’re losing so much weight. Does your doctor know how little you’re managing to consume?

@northgeorgia What a strong epiphany you had, and to have maintained your weight all weekend proves your resolve is strong. We’re rooting for you!!

@penz Aww, I’m so very sorry you have another fortnight of lockdown! I’m very, very glad, however, that you are not sick–so there’s that! As you are gentle to yourself, can you also be firm? What I am thinking is that scallops are a lovely FD meal: low in calorie but oh, so very indulgent. Could you do that plus a steamed veggie or two?

@daffodil2010 I’m so excited for you and DH; what a wonderful moment receiving that letter will be! And what strength you’re showing to wait until lunch to know whether today or tomorrow is a FD!

@brightonbelle What exercise will you choose?

@babs_b I’m with you on having a not-very-happy stomach this morning; hopefully today’s FD will make us both feel far, far better.

    Day 16 – UK – TDEE
    Day 15 – NFD

How did I miss posting yesterday……anyway went slightly above TDEE yesterday and aiming for TDEE today.

Drove over to DD and had a bracing beach walk with the dogs, blustery winds and overcast…..very atmospheric – then a scenic drive to little place in the middle of nowhere with fantastic views for an alfresco lunch – lovely time spent with DD

@emma-taylor – good to hear that the pick pocket incident has not put you off enjoying your holiday in Barcelona
@happymargo – keeping it simple works – basic 5:2 for many of us this month too
@bellyblast – looking after yourself during recovery is good – slow but sure does it
@stitchincarol – what a lovely family day enjoying each other’s company – best birthday present no doubt for your OH

I have been enjoying reading all the musings and self explorations – August must be the month for getting to know our triggers and what works for each and everyone of us

No classes today, just did not feel like doing any so listening to my body…..

Tomorrow should be a FD500 for me – will plan and enter my evening meal to see what I have left for the day

Going to watch the last hour or so of the cricket – India could still win this but hopefully England will be able to hold out for a draw 🤞

Day 16 North canton OH FD

What a dreary morning it’s been, no sun and lots of drizzle. Resolve will be firmly needed today.

@at sorry for the confusion, I meant work fires not literal fires LOL.

I did not log on at all over the weekend and now I am way behind on posts, will try to catch up.

In the meantime, keep track, be mindful and exercise resolve 🙂

    second post

@at Your day yesterday with DD sounds absolutely lovely!

@basyjames I hope the sun has come out by now!

For almost a year now, I have been posting my daily weight on a chart I created. When I’m not doing so well with mindful eating, I sometimes neglect to post, but mostly I’ve followed through. This morning, I went to post my weight, feeling icky about the 152.6 as I remember a 150.8 on the 6th of the month. But as I wrote it down, I noted that three weeks ago, I was 155.8; two weeks ago, I was 154.4; one week ago, I was 153.8.

Well, HUH! That 150.8 may be escaping me, but I appear to have lost three pounds since the end of July!

I feel MUCH better, and my RESOLVE has blossomed again into full bloom. 💪🥰🤩 So, I will continue to “keep on keeping on” “working the plan, because the plan works”; “perseverance is the secret of all triumphs,” and “I want to smile when I step on the scale in the morning.”

LOL! Is that enough quoting for one paragraph?? 😂🤣😂

    Day 17 – Ireland 🇮🇪 – NFD

Yesterday became my FD due to no letter in the post. I come home again at 12.30 today to check the mail but will have to scoot back to work for a Teams Meeting (honestly, who thinks a department wide Teams call between 13:00 to 14:00 is a good idea…it’s lunchtime!! Work/Life balance huh!)

Lucky it’s only a 10/15 minute drive to work. I have a nice tuna and beetroot salad prepared, so mindful mindful we go.

@stitchincarol, that birthday bash sounded like so much fun. Delighted to see that you have lost 3 pounds since month end.

Hmmm @northgeorgia, I like your epiphany, I might look at things myself and work it out…a handful of raisins here, a few walnuts there, a couple slices ham, a rice cake….if they are not logged they could be keeping me on this 2021 plateau….and most of the time they are NOT logged.

    Happy Tuesday.

    Day 17 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – FD

@penz – will this Covid ever end? I just heard from a friend in New Zealand that they’ve just gone into a Level 4 lockdown. 7 days for Auckland & 3 days countrywide; so far.

@stitchincarol – the Eastern Cape is one of South Africa’s 9 provinces, south of where I stay, ie Kwazulu-Natal. A good friend of mine stays there, in a small seaside town called Gonubie. She’s also originally from the UK, but we met in ’87 in South Africa & have always stayed friends. We usually meet up a couple of times a year, at least. It’s her birthday on the 22nd & I think this time, 18 months, is the longest we’ve ever gone without meeting up. The Eastern Cape is the 2nd largest province in the country, the poorest, & its two biggest cities are East London & Port Elizabeth, which has now been renamed Gqeberha; & I still won’t be able to pronounce that if I live to be 100 😅 Nelson Mandela was born & is buried in the Eastern Cape.

    Day 17 – UK – NFD

Yesterday’s FD was a success so I feel like I’m back on track again. (Not that I veered off *too* far). When I got home from work I prepped the chilli and hopped onto the bike for 15/20 mins while it was cooking. The scales this morning are down 0.5lb from yesterday morning which I am really surprised at – I figured I’d have gained a fair amount over the weekend and was really expecting to see it go on this morning where it wasn’t really there yesterday morning but apparently this isn’t the case. (I feel like I need to whisper all of that incase the scale gods hear me!!).

@at – your day sounds lovely! I thought of your resolve last night again when my eyes looked towards the kitchen after I’d finished my dinner and the habit of something little / sweet started to enter my mind, but I told myself the kitchen was closed and that was the end of that.

@stitchincarol – your loss across the 2 weeks is brilliant! Also, what a beautiful sounding weekend you had 🙂

@daffodil2010 – fingers tightly crossed for the letter’s arrival today. Your DH (and you!) must be on tenterhooks at the moment.

@funshipfreddie – I have family in SA but have never been out to visit. It’s on my bucket list for sure – my gt Aunt lived in so many different places out there, from Cape Town to East London, Jo’Burg and very rural places. As a kid hearing her stories it sounded phenomenal!

    Have a good day all!

    Day 17 – USA/GA – NFD

Today’s weigh-in: 222 lbs (for the 19th time this year), but feeling more temporary this time. It will be a mindful day, which is good because it’s going to be nerve-wracking. Not just with things at work, but with the weather as Tropical Depression Fred is already spawning up tornadoes 50 miles or so from here. We’re under a flash flood and tornado watch most of the day today, but should hopefully be gone by the afternoon drive home.

Going to try to get ahead of the heavier bands and leave early this morning. Take care!

    Day 17 – UK – FD

Another grey day with intermittent drizzle here but that did not stop me getting out for our regular group walk and the rain stayed away. Funny how our minds work as I know that if I wasn’t meeting others there is no way I would have gone out for a walk…..but out I went and enjoyed a low level wander with friends and a cup of tea afterwards.

Aiming for a good OMAD FD today…..all planned and logged into MFP with cups of tea during the day taken into account so I RESOLVE to stick to my plan for the day!

What an amazing day of cricket Day 5 of the test match England v India 🏏 turned out to be – just had to watch the highlights yesterday evening – India deserved to win that match – came back from the brink of defeat to snatch a win – not sure what happened to England but they just appeared lose the plot from late morning……

@funshipfreddie – I’m joining you on a FD today and keeping in mind your quote today!

So happy for you @stitchincarol. Wonderful progress indeed, and it just goes to show you that this WOL works if we persevere through the tough times. How many times have we all struggled here with mojos, plateaus and the like, and more often than not- everyone that sticks to posting eventually finds success. So please keep posting!!!

@northgeorgia great analysis of your intake, and a great example of why food journaling is so important in active weight loss. We have a tendency to underestimate our calorie intake, which usually stalls progress. Wishing you safety with the weather

@babs_b I understand your inclination to whisper LOL great job

@at workout buddies can be a lifesaver

@daffodil2010 what a blessing for your DH to be reunited with his birth mom.

@funshipfreddie re: Covid. I had an interesting conversation with my elderly neighbors about this. They said there were 3-4 waves of infection with the Spanish flu over 2 years, and they projected that with increased global travel we were probably going to have the same or more with Covid. Obviously this is not scientific but the patterns appear to be similar. The first wave of the Spanish flu was relatively mild, and it affected the elderly and the immunocompromised, the second wave was more deadly, killing 20-40 year olds – which is right about where we are now…

Day 17 – Rural Nebraska, USA – TDEE

I ended up keeping that stomach ache all day yesterday. It wasn’t awful, but it was certainly enough to interrupt a usual day’s activity, and I went to bed with it. Moreover, I fasted decently…and woke up at exactly the same weight. That never happens, as fasting is usual good for a 2+ pound drop. I’m shaking my head in confusion this morning, but shrugging as well; I’ll just keep on keeping on. And at least I finally feel fine this morning. 🤷‍♀️

@daffodil2010 The wait for the letter to arrive must be agonizing! And those bits and bobs of food add up way faster than one would think possible; you’ll be wise to log every last bite that goes in your mouth and see what picture is painted.

@funshipfreddie How fun that you finally get to go visit her again, and in time to celebrate her birthday even! And that quote is wonderful.

@babs_b What a rewarding FD you had yesterday, to power through the temptations without caving, and then to have a loss this morning; well done!

@northgeorgia I hope Fred weakens and you are safe from damage. I love your optimism, and hope it and your new resolve and insights are rewarded with lovely scale numbers very, very soon!

@at That’s so true that without friends to nudge us on, we can fall so much further from the goal; that’s what makes this group so helpful!

@basyjames The parallels of Covid with the Spanish Flu are so similar; that must have been a fascinating conversation with your elderly neighbors. And, thanks for the pep talk; I will indeed keep posting!

Today is piano lessons in Omaha, but the schedule is changed for today, so I’ll have time to do the sewing I didn’t accomplish yesterday. My fingers are crossed that I finally sew the final blocks AND can get them laid out so I can start sewing together the quilt top. Have a wonderful day, everyone, full of resolve and strength to accomplish whatever it is you’ve laid out for the day.

Day 17 NFD country west Australia
    Day 16 FD
Been MIA for some weeks but trying to do 5:2 with varying success.
Lovely sunny day after 2 weeks of wet wet wet weather with leaden skies and chilling winds.
Have come from 9ºC last week to 21ºC today.
Have DS in Sydney going in to his 8th week of lockdown. He is doing OK but would prefer the freedom we have in WA.
    Hope everyone else doing well.
Will catch up on posts soon.😴

    Day 17 USA – NFD

Tried doing OMAD yesterday quite successfully even if it was a fairly big meal. Scale no change. Good.

@funshipfreddie – I also have friends Down Under in Australia who are dealing with lockdowns, borders closed, etc. One needs a second jab next week, and will have to get a clearance to get it. I loved your description of SA areas and territories. I know that visiting your lovely country needs to go on our bucket list. Wow, is it ever getting long!

@babs_b – scale “ears” indeed! Hopefully yours didn’t hear anything.

@northgeorgia – thinking about you and remnants of tropical storms. My late brother was Fred and granddaughter #2 is Grace. Hugs to you!

@at – I really like your advice about filling in MFP with what you plan to eat on FD’s or CD’s. I’m thinking that’s a great plan!

@basyjames – what an interesting conversation re: Spanish Flu of a century ago. I think many epidemics and pandemics may have had similar paths.

@stitchincarol – great thoughts about keeping on. I have also had FD’s with no scale loss the next day. Is it likely what is in the digestive tract or salt intake? That’s what it seems to be for me.

@lilymartin – good to see you back. Feeling sorry for you, your weather, and also your son’s dealing with lockdown in Sydney.

    Onward and downward.

    Day 17 – 2nd post

Meh, I did OK today. About to go to bed. I had two people who were to start work soon; had no issues, and both decided to resign before they even came to work. One just sent me a very insulting resignation letter a few minutes ago blaming me for delaying the hiring process (I’m not Human Resources, I tried to explain, and they have a process they follow). He was supposed to start tomorrow. It’s so strange people will go through the interview process, understand the schedule and job duties, nod to acknowledging the hiring process could take between a week to three weeks, and yet forget everything when it’s time to actually start work.

OK, I’m done venting. Tomorrow is another day LOL

    Day 18 – Ireland 🇮🇪 – NFD

Feeling good, weight still staying the same but I feel fitter and am able to do more of my metabolic workout than I could previously. The weight WILL go, as long as I feel good that’s the main thing.

For example I am sleeping so well, it’s so different to a year ago when I would toss and turn. A good nights sleep sets up everything well for the day.

I got the orthotics on Saturday, I had to break them in fir a few hours each day as they are quite different and felt strange in my footwear, but 5 days on and I am beginning to find relief at last. I was told I also had collapsed arches so the insoles are supporting my arch and my heel, and although hobbling a bit in the morning when I get up, the rest of the day I feel good, and pain not so much 😄

Still no letter…it’s nerve wracking, I will stop talking about it as I don’t want to put a hex on it. Today is my DH’s adoptive mothers 7th anniversary…..wouldn’t it be strange if today was the day the letter arrived??

Ha @babs_b I know all about the scale “ears”…. I also fear my car “ears”….. I don’t really like the car as it lets me down too much and when I am moaning about the car I also fear the car will hear and go break something else on me 😆

So sorry @northgeorgia for your staffing problems, here is certainly a good place to vent

    Happy hump day 🐫

    Day 18 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD

Big-time PFDS, & 71.3 kgs today! So just 0.3 from my goal 😃

@songbirdme – SA really is a beautiful country; so much potential. If only we could get rid of the greedy, corrupt politicians, & bring down the crime rate & unemployment. I doubt very much I would have stayed here if I’d had kids.

@babs_b – I’ve also lived in various parts of the country – Pretoria, Johannesburg, Sun City in the North West & Thaba’Nchu in the Free State. I’ve never lived in Cape Town, though I’ve visited several times. The weather there is very unpredictable, & people say you can experience all four seasons in a day. Pretoria is known as ‘Jacaranda City’, & is amazing in October when the Jacarandas bloom. It’s as if the whole city turns purple for several weeks.

@daffodil2010 – where’s that letter?! I think we’re all as frustrated as you are 😞

    Happy Hump Day! 🐫 🐪

    Day 18 OMAD (😳) Barcelona

@daffodil2010. – it must be nerve wracking waiting for that letter. Your DH must be desperate to hear from his birth mother. I have to ration myself when I watch that Long Lost Families programme because it makes me cry so much. In a good way. I can’t imagine what it must be like to find a family you didn’t know about. I wish you the best.

On a fasting note, nothing too horrendous is going on here. Breakfast/ brunch is still mostly gazpacho or melon, then nothing until about 8 pm. I used to constantly be looking for things to eat all day long but now I forget about eating for long spells. I think I might try two ‘gazpacho’ days a week when I get home. OMAD every day, but on two days, having a carton of gazpacho for my meal – about 500 calories but filling. And I’m going to knock my cream with coffee in the mornings on the head. I know it’s stopping me losing weight. I’ll have cream in my eating window.

    Day 18 – Ireland – NFD

Hi all…. Just checking in and saying hello to you all! I am well and applying myself to eating well, practising self care, getting out on long spins with pals and back to my club and very grateful for everyone in my life both physically and virtually!

I will be posting as often as I can from today.. my dads birthday and I read a note earlier which I wrote this day last year which has inspired me to seize every single day 💪

I’m sorry I have not read recent posts but look forward to catching up on them tonight. 💕

    Have a lovely day all!

We rise by lifting others 💕

    Day 18/ Florida 🇺🇸/ OMAD < TDEE

Big THANKS to all my Fasting Friends here that recommended inputting my food into MFP (I use “Lose It” app) in advance. It really works!

I was afraid it could make me spiral down into a stressful diet mindset … But the opposite has happened. Turns out I like knowing what meals I have to look forward to. No stress, no worry. I just relax until it’s time to eat.
And, staying at or below TDEE has suddenly become much easier!

BONUS: because I’m journaling my food, I’m actually making healthier choices.
I don’t want to see a slew of junky snacks written down, so the overly processed factory foods have not even appealed to me over the last 5 days. I’ve really enjoyed more fruits (apple, cherries, peach) and veggies (spinach, arugula, cauliflower, yam, carrots.) They’ve edged out pretzels, crackers & chips.

So a big Thank You to this awesome group for helping me trouble-shoot & come up with a workable plan!

    Day 18 – USA/GA – NFD

Weigh-in: still 222 lbs. Nice! I do plan to eat out with coworkers today, so I’ll need to be mindful after getting home tonight. Tomorrow will be a FD.

    Second post for Day 18

@stitchincarol Your DH’s birthday celebration sounded perfect.
Also, your description of tracking weights revealing progress you may have missed was brilliant. You guys have got me to return to logging in my Lose It app (with success!) So now it looks like it’s also time to track again in Happy Scales.
This is the beauty of group support!

@northgeorgia These current staffing issues must be so frustrating!
Around here too, we were talking to a friend who was lamenting about people being interviewed & hired then either never showing up or training for 3 or 4 days before vanishing. No show, no call. That seems so crazy to me!

@at Great job facing the weather & getting in your walk. Definitely helps push me out the door when I know others are counting on me to show up. The socializing & friendship makes it worth it too!

@basyjames Interesting conversation with your neighbors about the Spanish flu. I’m looking forward to Covid being in our rear view & saying, “Remember that time when…?”

@daffodil2010 I’m curious about this “metabolic workout.” Is it something you follow on YouTube? I’ve been enjoying the gym we just joined, but would like a video or series I could follow at home too.

@funshipfreddie Had to look up jacaranda…Wow! They are gorgeous! I imagine all those trees blossoming together makes the air smell lovely too.

@emma Taylor You’ve got me running off to look up recipes for gazpacho now!

    Day 18 – UK – FD

Yesterday’s NFD was all ok and I’m back to my 2nd FD of the week today. I had a shocking night’s sleep last night (though not FD related!), so just trying to feel a bit more human at the moment. I didn’t stand on the scales this morning, I really hope the scale ears won’t remember what I said earlier in the week when I stand on them next!!

@daffodil2010 – blimey, that wait must be agonising!! I’m sure it’ll be well worth it when it arrives and wouldn’t it be a case of serendipity if it arrives today?! I’m with @emma-taylor on this one, I have to limit the amount of Long Lost Families I watch because of the emotional rollercoaster it sends you on – it’s a lovely one, but still.

@funshipfreddie – That sounds amazing! I can’t remember where my Aunt was at the time, but she lived somewhere very rural and apparently often had pythons slither in the front door, through the house and out the back door. Hearing that story when I was a kid was amazing!! I think I’ve only seen 3 snakes in the wild in my entire lifetime here in the UK – 1 was an Adder and 2 were Grass Snakes. That was enough for me!!

@northgeorgia – I feel your frustration with the hiring woes. It’s not until you run your own business or go higher up the tree in an organisation that you realise the true cost of recruitment, both financially and also the mental ones from all the effort! I hope you managed to find some better suited candidates.

@happymargo – I’m looking forward to Covid being behind us too, we really are living through history at the moment aren’t we?

I can’t see a pocket list for today so I’m starting one – anyone joining in?

    Pocket list day 18 🙂
    @babs_b

    Day 18 – UK – TDEE

A lovely restorative yoga class this morning to finish the current block of classes with coffee and pear and vanilla cake with the group afterwards 😋

Weather remains cool and overcast here but at least no rain…….Facial booked for this afternoon….bliss…

@daffodil2010 – lovely positive post – 🤞that letter arrives this week

This month I have been challenging myself to be more mindful and trying to regain good habits and thanks to @stitchincarol ‘s RESOLVE mantra I have managed to stay on track for the first half of the challenge – now to continue and see if those kgs that have been creeping on can be dispatched………
Back to Basics for this August Aspirations 2021 Challenge for me
    * 2 x FD500
    * Drink at least 2L of water daily
    * Daily form of exercise for 5 days each week
    * Use of MFP to help keep track of calories consumed and therefore relearn portion control
    * Reduce intake of 🍷🥂 to only 2 days each week

“If I quit now, I will soon be back to where I started. And when I started, I was desperately wishing to be where I am now”

    Day 18 UK NFD

Thanks for the back to basics list @at ,mirrors my aims exactly

    Happy 🐫day all
