Another starter

  • I did my first fast last Friday today is my third but I think I may be going wrong and taking the word “fast” too literally. Until now Breakfast on fast days has been a bowl of commercial muesli mixed with nuts,(1/2 of what I normally take) coffee with milk but no sugar. Snack mug of coffee, lunch Ry-vita and a glass of flavored still water. Evening meal commercial salad bowel with dressing but no meat or other additives. supper Ry vita and glass of mineral water. Up-until now light gardening or cycle ride, today a light work out in the gym. Can I take a slice of ham or chicken with the salad, which I must admit is not my normal food.

    sounds like you are fasting pretty well to me 🙂 and am sure a slice of chicken or ham with the salad is ok as these don’t have many calories!

    Hi Cusham,

    I would take a piece of chicken breast or some other meat or fish with your salad, about 100gr. The protein will help with your weight loss.
    The ryvita is carbs, I would keep off this on a Fast day.

    Muesli is good to have, I usually have 28gr, with some fruit or 28gr porridge made with milk and water again some fruit/berries.

    @cusham adding some meat to your salad sounds fine. Basically you can have what you like but just make sure you stay within your 500 (women) or 600 (men) fast day calorie limit over the day.

    My preferred way (and it’s a personal thing) is to eat dinner on my non fast day and then have only water and black coffee until dinner time on my fast day when I have a meal of no more than 500 calories.

    There is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way to have your fast day calories – there is YOUR way which is the way that works best for you and fits your life style. The only fast day ‘rule’ is to have NO MORE than the 500/600 limit but you can have less than this if you wish.
