  • Hi guys I need help and fast!
    Firstly I’m 5ft (very short)  I weight 10stone 5lbs.
    For the last 3 weeks I have been on a VLCD Exante diet and have lost 10lbs – I have been doing the diet mon-Friday and maintaining Sat & Sun.
    Im becoming really hungry so I want to start 5:2 but I don’t want my weight loss to slow down too much, 3lbs a week would be happy I want to get down to 8 stone 12lbs for my holiday (or abit lesss but unlikely) in 5 week.s
    My TDEE is 1608 with little to no exercise. I plan on having 1500 on non fast days and exercising around 300 calories off. I also walk to work 20 min there 20 min back 🙂
    On non fast days im going to use my VLCD products so it wasn’t a whole waste of money and have 500 calories.
    Does anybody know if this method will work? I have a low metabolism and im worried if I stick to the 1608 I will only lose a 1lb a week I know that’s the safe way but it really is too low for me.
    Advice, and experience would be much appreciated 

    Everyone is different, TDEE is a guideline because everyone is different, but its a good guideline.

    I think weight loss can be shown as maths so here goes

    5:2 is eating just under 80% of your TDEE, therefore your calories for the week are 8844

    Your have chosen to go under you TDEE for five days, and slightly over your fast days allowance

    1500 x 5 and 500 x 2 = 8500

    so far so good

    11256 – 8500 = deficit of 1756

    one pound of fat is 3500, therefore you will – mathematically – lose half a pound a week. With exercise could be a pound.

    To lose 3 lb a week without exercise, you would have to ditch 10500 calories out of your 11256 TDEE (1608 x 7).

    Including exercise, 300 calories worth a day – over TDEE usage – would still mean ditching 8500 calories out of your 11256.

    I imagine doable (actually I can’t even imagine it). Might be doable for a week, but you will be VERY VERY hungry. You will not die, you will lose weight, but it would literally be a fast day for seven days. That will be the hardest 3 lbs you will every lose. And that’s one week. And I think it may be folly to do unless you do it under medical supervision. And it may lead to serious health issues.

    So to answer your question – can’t be done, if the aim is to be less hungry and if you wish to follow 5:2 principles. 5:2 isn’t a diet, its a way of life, its restricting food for two days so that life can be normal, or fairly normal for the time it take to reach your gold, and its fasting for one day a week to maintain that goal.

    Is there a reason why you need to lose weight so quickly?

    10lb in three weeks is doable, as you have seen, though I imagine some of the 10lb is water, and that can’t be lost again and again. When I started I lost not one ounce in the first three weeks, though did remarkably well for the next six. I’m now in my 14th week, and the best advice I can give is that I have learned patience. My weight is moving, averaging 1.5 pounds per week, but already slowing down.

    Every person on this forum will have a different tale to tell. I am sure some folk have lost 3 lbs a week for many weeks, I might guess they are not in the 10st category. And for us shorties, it can be a battle.

    How old are you, how much do you want to lose, and why do you want to lose it so quickly?

    Thanks for getting back to me, all in all I don’t really believe in the calorie diflict calculations as I used to have 1,200 calories a day and used to lose 3lbs a week.
    I already burn off 200 calories walking to work and back 3miles which is -200 calories already before the gym.
    By doing it this way I probably eat the same as I did a week on a 1,200 calorie a day diet just gives me more leeway on other days and two are very restricted.
    I’ve read a story on a girl on 5:2 that does this method in the 9’s and she lost 4lb in the first week, everybody is different some people loose loads on diets like slimming world and clean eating but I never have it has to be a big calorie restriction as ive tried everything else.
    I guess what I was looking for is people that have succeeded with doing the same as me I always look for stories off other people even though I know bodies are different and I know what works for me so I probably shouldn’t

    I’m losing 3lbs a week but I started at 18.2lbs at 5’5 tall age 48. I’m assuming there are two reasons I am losing so much, the first possibility is because I’m so overweight and although I’ve never lost weight this fast before I am also the heaviest I’ve ever been, or was 7 weeks ago when I started.

    The second and obviously more obvious is because, although I’ve no idea of my orevious calorie consumption it was obviously massive compared to what I eat now. I was a HUGE carb junkie and so wasted empty calories on lots of sugars hidden in those carbs. I eat 500 on my fast day, one meal at 8pm. I usually eat between 7/8pm then nothing again before bed. So I do a long 24hr fast, break it for dinner then don’t eat again until the day after around 1/2pm depending when I am hungry.

    I honestly think that you are looking for a ‘miricle weight loss’. The moment you go on holiday and start drinking and eating, and watch that alcohol because you will get hammered on a couple of drinks if you restrict your TDEE to a much lower limit each day. You will gain a lot of weight on holiday very fast.

    Good luck, but I think you have left it too last minuite to lose all that weight in such a short period of time. And please be careful with your health. I hope whatever the outcome that you have a fantastic holiday and I’m sure you’ll look lovely in your clothes.
