Hi all,
Just thought I’d let those interested know that this diet works, works well, and is surprisingly easy to stick with. I am in my 10th week, feel great, and have lost 15kg so far.
For those who want more stats they are below, but before that, over the decades I have tried most diets going and, after initial success, all have ended with the inevitable return to starting weight – and then some. This fast diet has been the easiest to stick with and there is no reason it won’t be for life.
I started on the 4:3 because I am impatient and hard some lard to move, 9 weeks later I am still on the 4:3 and plan to switch to the 5:2 when I hit my target.
So to the stats: Male, age 57, height 180cm, lightly active.
4:3 start date 22/6/16 – weight 101kg, waist 45.5inches
7/7/16 – weight 95kg, waist 43.5inches
16/7/16 – weight 93kg, waist 43 inches
31/7/16 – weight 89kg, waist 42 inches
7/8/16 – weight 88kg, waist 41.5 inches
21/8/16 – weight 86kg, waist 39.5 inches
So far I have lost 6 inches (15 cm) of girth, and 15kg (33 pounds) of lard. I have gained a spring in my step. Sorry about the mix of imperial and metric measures, but that’s what happens when you start with one and then your country decides to go metric – yes I am an antipodean, guilty as charged.
My target is 75kg which will bring my BMI into the normal range. On the current trajectory I should hit this in 6 to 8 weeks. Once this is achieved I will switch to the 5:2 diet and coast through to the my end of my life extended days.
As mentioned above, I started with the 4:3 and found that fasting on Monday, Wednesday and Friday works best for me. The bonus is that the weekends are free to eat as I please with friends and family. Truth is that even on the eat days I have tended to calorie restrict without counting – both my appetite and stomach seem to have shrunk.
Hurdles? Not many. Friday nights have had the occasional blow out – end of working week drinks and meals with friends, but that’s life. When I get hungry on fast days, I change the activity I am doing to one that requires more concentration, and the craving soon passes. Alternatively I have a “change of state” and remove myself from food, i.e. go for a walk or bike ride away from the fridge and pantry!
Anyway, I just wanted say thank you to Michael and team for popularizing the fast diet – it works and has given me a new lease on life – no small feat for a jaded aging white male!
