Good morning everyone. xxxx
Thankfully it looks to be a sunny few days after all the rain. Everywhere is absolutely soaking again. .. a very wet year from the start.
I am still holding on to the 2lbs gained .. hopefully being out and about now it will go. I eat when bored like many others.
Dave .. how is it going for you.. Do you think you will lose next weigh in.
Nana.. What are up up to today.. out on your bike?.
Sym.. Are you well now.
H H … Well done sticking to Keto on your break.. ..Hope all goes well with Mums paperwork today.
I am making a running to do list everyday of 6 extra things .. like cleaning cupboards etc this week 3 things I hate doing are still carried forward lolol hopefully done today.
Have a good day everyone… “Don’t count the days. Make the days count.” Xxxx
It sounds like some of you are bracing for a very hot summer. We had our own little heatwave yesterday with the temperature reaching 19C. No coat!
Neil, you are doing SO well. It’s fantastic to read of your ongoing downward trajectory with so few bumps in the road. I had to look up, ‘The Hangover’ and noted that Bradley Cooper was in it. I’ve just seen a movie with him in – A Star Is Born. I really enjoyed it and before that, I didn’t even know what Lady Gaga looked like and I couldn’t name any of her songs. I’m so out of touch. I thought they were both very talented actors and singers.
A few months ago, I was recommending, ‘Colin From Accounts’. It’s an Australian series. I just wanted to say, don’t bother with series 2.
Quacka, B2B fasting! I’ve never tried it. I hope it goes well. Does your OH do any fasting?
That dentist is still practicing. He goes off the radar for a while and then pops up in another suburb. He trained in Perth and is now in his late fifties. The dentist that said he had fixed lots of his mistakes told me, ‘he’s a nice guy but he just shouldn’t be practicing dentistry’. That dentist ran for the hills when I needed someone to testify on my behalf. The name of the Thai facility is Bangkok International Dental Centre (BIDC). https://bangkokdentalcenter.com. I understand it’s a big leap but it’s always good to have options.
We watched Dr M’s, ‘Just One Thing’ the other night. It was about the benefits of a 30 second cold shower – or any cold water immersion. Has anyone tried that? It’s still so sad to think of his untimely death.
Day 17, FD, Aus
After the day you’ve described, @missybear, you deserved that bottle of wine!
Ha ha – I could so picture those random Dali-esque mosaic ideas, @flourbaby. What about the edge of a kitchen bench as well??
I love that phrase “the cascade of consumption”, @excelsior12309 – I know it all too well. And you’re right, silverbeet is not a beet at all! I’ve never thought of it like way before…. English is such a funny language!
Afternoon all
I’m not sure what it was, perhaps the rare day of nice sunny weather, but I had a real burst of energy yesterday. I rode my bike to and from work, did half an hour of gardening after getting home, cooked dinner, then did another 90 minutes of gardening. Hopefully this keeps up.
Good morning everyone from a very warm Melbourne with mad thunderstorms forecast.
Gday, sympathy for your weather, I am girding myself for a dreadful summer, but I am pretty sure a dreadful Melbourne summer will be easy compared to your area.
Suzy, yes! The year is flying by!
And yes, I also agree that our digestion changes as we age, getting less and less robust. We do need to enjoy how good it is at the moment as it is never likely to be any better!
And another thing I agree on is salads for summer! I find those salad vegetables so cooling, I don’t want them on cold days.
Enjoy the dance festivals!
Quacka, sympathy for the cost of the crowns, but I think that when I got mine they were more expensive and probably not as clever and long lasting as they make them now. (Before I had even heard of dental l tourism like Thin’s).
I hope your B2B fast day went as well as the first one. On a roll!
Neil, yes it sounds like a bump not to worry about. best wishes for a good week this week.
Best wishes everyone!
Day 16 UK FD800
Chucking in an extra FD800 to keep me going – and bc I didn’t have / make time to eat earlier. A FULL day, but with lovely zoom chat with young friend and a couple of hours teatime visit /catch up with an old friend too – reaffirming the importance of balance in my life.
Today’s omad supper is pretty similar to yesterday’s bc that’s what I had in to eat up. Next veg box has arrived so i’m feeling the pressure! Corn on the cob, stir fry enlivened by cauliflower along with the tofu/pakchoi/mushroom/leek of yesterday, and more apple/plum compote with vanilla soya yoghurt.
I’m beginning to wonder how on earth i’m going to fit it all in by the conference deadline xc perhaps by working tomorrow night? Esp as I’ve got a haircut booked int he morning right up in the city at Leather Lane! But since these are like gold dust – and in the interests of balance – I’m not cancelling. I’d rather work late and make sure it’s all done, then chill and recover on Friday. I’ll get there – then enjoy visiting with DD next week and a silent retreat the following week 🙂
onwards! Lovely to skim read everyone’s posts – @northgeorgia I see you are down by 4lbs this week, go you! Hold strong lovely people, we’ve got this!

Evening!
Had a lovely, relaxing break, the place was beautiful! We had one walk in the woods, it was right next to a nature reserve, weird because I don’t think it was mentioned in the description at all! Weather a bit damp after that. Stuck to keto, even though hubby was tucking in to biscuits & birthday chocolate…back down to earth now, taking mum to get the paperwork signed tomorrow for her will & POA…
Day 16 – Rural Nebraska, USA – WFD#2 perhaps
The scale is very close to what it was last week after my second WFD, so I’m encouraged to continue my WF; if it’s simply too challenging (I’ll be around the house most of the day, after all), then I realized I could simply turn it into a regular FD500, so I should be golden either way. I am, however, thinking of taking along our scale–since we’ll drive the 2.5 hours to our conference tonight instead of at o’dark-thirty in the morning–just so I can see the lovely number, LOL!
@funshipfreddie It’s really fun to read how deeply you’re enjoying mosaicking and to have seen the evidence of how beautiful it ends up being, so it makes complete sense that you bought the tools necessary to work on it at home as well! Are you going to leave the pot at class and start something different at home, or what? Oh, and thanks for the explanation of “wind-up merchant.”
@michelinme Wow! PARLIAMENT? I’m certainly impressed, LOL! And to skip the meal there to go home and eat what you know to be uber-healthy? You deserve kudos for that, and feeling thinner is a lovely consequence; sounds like you’re on a serious roll!
@penz Glad you found two recipes worth your attention! And your beet salad sounds lovely–but you have beets still in the ground after winter? They haven’t already been planted and grown, have they?? AHH–just read @excelsior12309‘s comment that it’s Swiss Chard and I know that grows in cool spring weather; I just assumed it was a color of beet, LOL!
@flourbaby I couldn’t read that Financial Times article without subscribing for a bunch of money, but the title pretty much summed it up, I’m thinking! And good job on swerving the treats in the work kitchen. Deep breaths, and focus on every quote you know to find your RESOLVE. And then remember that attitude is simply an internal excuse to fail: all it takes to find your resolve is for you to stand up tall and be scornful of the idea that you don’t possess the necessary strength in you already because you are a STRONG WOMAN. 💪💪💪🥰
@missybear There are perhaps some people in the world who would not give in to wine at the end of such a day as you had, but it strikes me that you were simply exerting your control to produce something relaxing and pleasant after all the frustrations you had to deal with. And I’ll bet it WAS relaxing and pleasant. And now you’ll be DTF. Sounds like a perfect moment of no significance. 🥰
@excelsior12309 Thanks for looking up silverbeet for me! I’ve read over and over that the lockdown has had long-term consequences for the psych consequences of kids; your experience seems to be another affirmation of that.
@northgeorgia Ahh, thank you, but the birthdays were for our two sons, now 28 and 33.
@brightonbelle Yup, it’s the NFDs. Always, the NFDs. For me, it was a deep look inside asking why I gave in to temptation so regularly–frequently, actually. It was asking if I really wanted to be that woman who had no spine to stand up tall and say “No, thank you.” But it took me many, many months to arrive at the spot of success I’m now enjoying. You’ll get there; you have before and you will again!
@merryapple I hope your first day of physio–NZ’s term for physical therapy, right?–went well, although I suspect that was also significant pain involved. Also yes?
I doubt I’ll post tomorrow or Friday since we’ll be at the conference, and I have no idea what Saturday will sort out to be. I just keep taking deep breaths and doing the next thing; that’s all anyone can do, right?
Have a grand one, everyone!

USA. Day 16. FD
I definitely am adding mindful eating to my eating plan. I have been reading about it and it makes sense. I lost weight recently and due to recent stress, I gained it back and then some. 👎

@excelsior12309, I have the same problem with a few foods. Once I start, I can’t stop. Usually, that happens between the hours of 3 o’clock ad 6 o’clock. I call these my witching hours.
@missybear, it certainly seems like you had quite a day yesterday! Your vacation seems to be in the nick of time. Sounds like you badly need it.
@funshipfreddie, I truly understand what you said about being retired. I keep a large calendar in my kitchen to keep me straight. That works most of the time, except when there is a weekday holiday. The missing day (because everyone is home) makes me feel like every day is one day off!
I hope everyone is having a great day! 👍🏻
Day 16 UK NFD
Thanks for looking the beets/chard up @excelsior12309 I was puzzled and had planned to investigate but you’ve saved me a job
Dentist was fine thanks @funshipfreddie Just a Quick Look at x- rays , work planned for January but that’s a way off yet
As @flourbaby commented your schedule is exhausting @michelinme 🐝
Hey I wouldn’t worry about it @missybear the odd 1/2 bottle of wine isn’t going to have much of an impact, sounds like one of those days
I’m trying this week to look more closely at my NFDs My thinking being I can easily do 2 FDs a week so if I could just get the NFDs in order I’d have cracked the code ! I’m working more on portion control and mindfulness rather than Calorie counting, we’ll see 💭Planning on a FD tomorrow though
Day 16 – USA/GA – FD
Weigh-in: 236 lbs. @stitchincarol Happy belated birthday! I would go back and read that delicious menu, but I might start salivating, and that’s probably not good on my 3rd FD 🙂
I think I should be able to pull off another FD500 today and tomorrow.

Day 16-No. VA USA-NFD
I had a good FD yesterday, probably more like 800 than 600, but still OK. Avoided large basket of candy at work. I am good at that as long as I strictly avoid it. Eating one starts the cascade of consumption!!
I brought a large bottle of fizzy water to drink all day and that helped. It was a huge psych day–everyother child or teen or family was messed up, thought they were messed up, wanted psych meds, didn’t want psych meds, etc, etc. Unfortunately there is such a demand for therapists there is quite a shortage, and for actual MD psychiatrists, it is nigh impossible. So general pediatricians end up managing a lot of medications. I cannot do the therapy, though. That is a different skill set.
@missybear, I am sympathetic, and certainly understand the uses of a lovely glass of wine at times…both stressful and celebratory.
@flourbaby, I am glad you avoided the evil Jaffa cakes. I have had them, but I don’t understand the appeal, to be honest.
@penz, your salad sounds interesting. Had no idea what silverbeet is, but now I know: we call it chard or Swiss chard here. Not a beet at all, really, is it?
@funshipfreddie, perhaps soon we will see an image of your front door entirely in mosaic. Will your development where you live allow such a work of art?
@michelinme, you are a superwoman!
Down we go, all!
Good morning everyone it’s wet here but not to cold. Supposed to be bowling today only practice but will see what the weather is like first. I think it may have stopped raining but will find out when I take Chloe out. It’s funny but if it’s freezing or raining Chloe seems to stop at every corner for a good sniff while I want to get round and back to the warm and dry house. Her absolute top speed is about 1mph I have to drag her around unless there are kids behind us then she moves fast, dosent like kids when they scream.
Day 16 Wales 🏴 NFD
Things didn’t go smoothly yesterday. It began badly when DH’s injection pen for daily medication broke and it was a frustrating lengthy process to get it replaced. Then banking issues. Then we discovered the newly purchased cooler case for transporting medication wasn’t maintaining temperature so a rush to get that sorted before our trip. So…..confession time…..DH and I shared a bottle of wine last night. Oh well, that’s life! More life admin stuff to deal with today but I have promised myself there will be no more wine before the weekend.
Have a good day all. Onwards…..
Day 16, London, UK, FD800
Like @penz, I’m not quite sure how I missed posting yesterday, I can’t let the mountain of work bury me, I need to stick to normal routines, so here I am for a quick check-in.
Doing ok, but feeling discombobulated enough to consider the biscuits in the kitchen at work………………….. I only swerved them because they’re disgusting Jaffa cakes!!!🤢🤮😰
@funshipfreddie, I guess you’ll be mosaicking every blank surface you can find!!😁 I love the idea of random patches of Daliesque mosaic in unexpected places – room corners, dripping from window sills, peeking out from permanent fixtures, am I making sense???

@michelinme, I’m exhausted just reading your post, you really are a busy-bee!!🐝 It’s great when you’re too busy to eat ………… unexpected FD!!!🥳🥳🥳
@stitchincarol, what a celebration meal!!! It sounds lovely and great that you had kitchen helpers as well as great company!!
@jaifaim ……………… It’s time to put those birthday celebrations behind you & get yourself back on the wagon!!!……………. Don’t make me come over there to get you!!!😏😜😜
Onward & downwards folks!!!

Day 16, NFD, Aus
How did I miss yesterday?
Yum! That berry/beet salad looks lovely, @stitchincarol, and I think I’m going to give that caramelised onion pasta dish a go. We were going to have a salad with dinner tonight only to discover we were out of lettuce. So instead, I’ve pulled some silverbeet from our garden, and will toss that (shredded, raw) with walnuts, feta, and ribbons of beet. No need for any dressing because the feta and beetroot will moosh together to form a dressing of sorts.
Oooh, what home project are you going to tackle, @funshipfreddie?
I’m 7 steps off my 10 000 so I better do a few laps of the kitchen!
Day 16 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD
The 4 hour mosaic class went far too quickly yesterday. I’m totally hooked! So I bought tile cutters (nippers) etc so I can get creative at home.
@iona72 – one of the joys of retirement, not being sure what day of the week it is 🥴️ I recently put out my rubbish for collection thinking it was Friday. When I went out a couple of hours later & it was still there, I realised it was actually Thursday, duh? 🙄
@flourbaby – the Negombo Waters look blissful! I’ve been trying the cold showers after the regular warm one. I’m up to about 6 seconds; which is about 5.5 seconds longer than I imagined I’d do 😂
@merryapple – Ugh?! That must be so frustrating! How did the physio go? I hope it’s improving 🤗 69.1?! 🎯💪
Happy Hump Day! 🐫🐪
I’m going to winge about the weather again, back to back days of 40 degrees here at the moment and in the lead up we’ve had 35 degree days for the last week. Air conditioning on all day and fans all night – unheard of for mid October. What’s it got to be like in January and February which is usually our scorching temperature months.
Good Morning everyone
Hi thin. Honestly, I have never even considered going to Thailand but have heard several good things about it. I guess the only reason is that I haven’t done any overseas travel before. I have two holidays booked so I hope that once I do them I will be more confident in going overseas and then I would definitely look into it. Would love you to give me the details please. It sounds like you had a very good experience so it’s good to hear from someone who has actually done it!
That criminal dentist in Perth – well let’s just say I know what needs doing to him! Unbelievable that he thought he could get away with and then worse that the dental board were lax in doing anything about it. I hope he’s not still practising.
Yep Neil, don’t worry about the 200g. There are so may variables that affect our daily weight and one of the biggest is how much water we are retaining, all related to a million different things like our food and drink, our medications, the weather and even just sometimes I feel like our body just says I’m doing this today!
I had a good FD yesterday. I’m doing another one today so my first B2B since restarting 5:2. I don’t think it will be 500 cals but I’m hoping to stay under 700. That will be 500 for dinner and 200 for lunch. I can do it
Hope you all have a lovely day xx
Day 15 – NE England – NFD- DTF
I have been thinking all day that it’s Monday, but it’s not!! October is whizzing by, winter looming -urgh.
I have done ok with eating today, I had breakfast which is unusual for me but felt quite hungry and had a busy morning out, so figured it was better to eat something sensible at home rather than be tempted whilst out.
Scales were the same this morning, hopefully by the end of the week I will see some progress.
@michelinme sounds very hectic hope you get the batch cooking done, its very satisfying isn’t it!
@funshipfreddie my day feels like a blur too.
@excelsior12309 some days it’s difficult to get as much walking as I would like. I am hoping for a good day tomorrow but some rain is forecast.
@stitchincarol great report, thanks.
Day 15 UK CD
Just back from parliament where I was on trustee duty, talking with MPs, Lords & interested others about EDI in the Church of England. I ducked out of the meal out bc tired and didn’t want to get home really late, but also bc I knew I had supper stuff all chopped and ready to go – motivation!
Yesterday’s FD morphed to FD800 but I’ll take that. I felt thinner again this morning tho forgot to weigh myself. Full on day juggling several projects before rushing into town for event. SO tired but slower start tomorrow morning as I can finally finish emails and focus on conference prep – pressure is mounting!
Today’s food – v late lunch with cottage cheese & avo plus minestrone soup; supper was a leek/mushroom/pak choi/tofu stir fry with sweet chilli sauce, corn on the cob, and a plum/apple compote with vanilla soya yogurt. Still avoiding carbs and keeping my rainbow of fruit and veg. Tomorrow I’m batch cooking a butternut squash & sweet potato dahl, handy way to finish up my last veg box ahead of the next delivery, and ready to take some down to DD next week.
@stitchincarol thanks for sharing your feast & recipes! It sounds a lovely evening 🙂
@northgeorgia – well done on the b2b FDs!
@ccco don’t worry about putting on a little weight – you have been through such a lot and your body is working hard for health
@excelsior12309 thanks for your encouragement 🙂 I feel chaotic but somehow getting by. I suspect it would be easier if i’d taken time out to write it all down, but I’ve just been ploughing through. 3 more days of full steam ahead!
@iona72 isn’t it great when clothes feel bigger?! Well done 🙂
@missybear well done on yesterday’s FD. I’d forgotten how cold I get when fasting – clearly the body is burning fat to keep us warm 🙂
Right – off to bed!
Morning all
Sorry Thin, but when I hear dentistry in Bangkok, my mind immediately jumps to “The Hangover” movie series.
I had my first bump on the scales in 3 months this morning. I was up 200g, but I’m not too worried about it. I’m assuming it’s just leftover from the excess softdrinks I had over the weekend. I’ll see how I get on next week before I start panicking.
Have a good one everyone
Good evening, it son goes dark, the clocks go back soon as well. Denise loved the sausage and mash in onion gravy so wants it again this week. I’m getting used to cooking every night now, I don’t mind doing it at all. Think it’s going to be wet tonight.
2nd Post – Day 15
@stitchincarol – I think our posts over-lapped – wind-up merchant (plural wind-up merchants). (UK, colloquial) One who enjoys winding others up in the sense of making fun of them or playing practical jokes.
Maybe the post was intended for another thread..? 🤔
Day 15 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD
Logging on for accountability. Today is a blur?! 4: 30 pm already, & I don’t feel like I’ve done anything constructive. Except for mosaicking, dropping off laundry & having lunch. And feeding the cat about 6 times. Her stomach is like the Tardis 😅
@brightonbelle – I hope your dentist appointment is as hassle-free as mine was. I almost nodded off during my check-up 😴 Until the bill arrived 😳
Half-way through the month already! Onward & downward 🎯 💪
Day 15 – Rural Nebraska, USA – WFD
I’m just under 160 this morning after four NFDs, proof I didn’t go too nuts since my last WF, and I’m pleased. Looking ahead, DH and I both have a conference on Thursday and Friday, for which we’ll leave after choir on Wednesday; there’s no way I can be strong enough to WF on Thursday, so I either have to be content with one this week, or I have to do two days in a row. I’ve done that before–once–but the idea is daunting. I’ll spend my driving time between lessons today psyching myself up.
Okay, birthday dinner report. The appetizer was bacon brushed with maple syrup, cut in half, then wrapped around halves of brussels sprouts and roasted until tender. We went back and forth as to whether it was truly lovely, decided it was very nice, but not necessarily worth repeating. The soup course was a puree of sweet potato, carrots, and parsnips, someonion, chicken broth, and a bit of cream. I’d thought it would be glorious, but it was simply…not. We added more salt, more chicken flavoring, vinegar (several times) and finally decided it was as good as it was going to get. The elder son actually loved it, so I sent him home with the leftovers.
My plan was to serve the plated salad simlutaneously with the main course, but both sons overrode me, and said, no, let’s just slow down, eat the salad, then cook the pork chops. So the salad. It was GLORIOUS. Here’s the recipe: https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/berry-beet-salad/ I used canned beets, and we all adored it, and will keep it in our permanent rotation. It strikes me as a perfect Christmas salad for you southern hemisphere people, because the colors are so gorgeous, and the fruits are in season for you. The only changes I made were that I used canola oil rather than the walnut oil (didn’t have any and DS28 is perhaps allergic to walnuts besides) and didn’t add feta because none of us wanted any–we were all getting full, LOL!
Then DS cooked the pork chops and they were perfect. I had bought bone-in, which I’m sure adds to the flavor. https://bakeatmidnite.com/blackberry-pork-chops/ I ate only half of my chop, and the leftovers yesterday were equally excellent.
I made the caramelized onion pasta, using a GF ravioli I happened across at Trader Joe’s, and it was really yummy; I’ll do the caramelized onion sauce again: https://iamhomesteader.com/caramelized-onion-pasta/ With little butter/oil and only a cup of cream between the four of us, it was even not decadent.
Green beans rounded out the plate.
Then, dessert. https://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/apricot-almond-layer-cake-231811 I made the apricot compote and the candied almonds on Friday, and baked the macaroon layers (what they call them, but I think it’s actually macaron layers) on Saturday, then it was a five minute job on Sunday to whip the cream and assemble the whole thing. Gorgeous. Yummy. And surprisingly good, possibly even better despite being a bit soggy, on Monday. A perfect dinner party dessert because most can be done ahead of time, and there’s little time that’s required on the day of the dinner.
The boys arrived just after three; we started with appetizers at 5:30 and were done with dessert around 8:30.
And best of all, while I certainly had wine with dinner, I introduced a mocktail I’d discovered to everyone, and DS33 and I both loved it and had two: 8 ounces juice (I had tangerine juice on hand for it), 4 ounces Owen’s ginger beer (I specify the brand because there’s a distinct “evergreen” flavor to it that I find intriguing and delightful), and 2 ounces lime juice, all served over ice. Total: 160 calories. I happily sipped away on my two over the course of two hours, never missing the alcohol.
And that’s my report. You didn’t expect me to sum it up in four sentences, did you??? 🤣🤣🤣
@brightonbelle Yeah, I read that @marsbar post…what even is a “wind-up merchant”??
@molij I look forward to hearing your report when you’re able, and pray the surgery went very well!
@merryapple My heart aches for how frustrated you must be with your bum hand. Is it still painful, or is it primarily an issue of being useless for the time being?
I have a crazy busy week to get through (for those of you who remember my quarterly “Leaguer” obligations, I’m working on that again) and it won’t be much better next week, but then I think–HOPE–it settles down to something steady. In the meantime, I’m going to do my absolute best to talk myself into being excited to do a WF from Monday night to Thursday morning…perhaps I’ll hold out a Starbuck’s latte as the Thursday morning reward for following through, LOL! That would be a gentle way to break the fast.
Must get going. Have a grand one, everyone!

Ugh! I put 2 lbs. back on! 🤨
Quacka, with your new life that includes travel, have you considered dentai tourism?
The cost of dentistry was getting exorbitant in Perth and I had a very bad experience with a dentist. He claimed he’d been performing a root canal over three very expensive visits but it later came to light that he hadn’t even attempted it. This fraud and incompetence ultimately cost me my tooth and an unpleasant legal battle – just to get my money back, no punitive damages. The result was that I needed an implant at a quoted cost of $10,000.
The dentist got a slap on the wrist from the dentistry board and a written ‘caution’ against his name for three months – which they ‘forgot’ to post and I had to remind them about. Amazing how the body supposed to protect the public rallies around their own in the face of overwhelming and damming evidence – a bill for a root canal and an X-ray showing it wasn’t performed. By coincidence, the dentist that revealed all this told me that he’d spent many years ‘correcting that guy’s mistakes’.
A neighbour suggested a facility in Thailand. I was naturally skeptical but researched it thoroughly. The implant (involving two trips to Thailand) and a two week family holiday in Thailand cost us $3000. After that, our family travelled to Thailand for most of our dentistry – crowns, fillings, mouth guards, etc and we even planned Bangkok stopovers on other family holidays just to get our exam and cleanings done there.
I can’t recommend it highly enough. It’s a huge, modern, spotlessly clean, dedicated facility and every floor houses a speciality like crowns, implants, dentures, and so on. There’s even a hotel attached to it where you can stay for bed and breakfast. In my case, they wanted me staying close for four days after the procedure in case of complications. I was given strong medication for pain relief – but needed nothing.
Most of the dentists and specialists are trained in the US, England, Canada etc. If you need a specialist scan, you simply go to another floor and, when you get back, your dentist is already reading the results. (In Perth I needed a separate appointment across town and had to wait two weeks for the results, plus pay the dentist for another visit).
What sold me on it (after speaking to several Australians who’d been there) was the professional, detailed and prompt response I received when I made the initial enquiry. All the worst-case scenario costs are quoted ahead of time. I was given three cost options for materials used for my implant. They recommended that of the three implant visits needed, I should have the tooth extracted in Perth to save the airfare as the second stage can’t be done for six months after that. That gave me confidence that they weren’t just money-grabbing.
Most of their clients are foreigners travelling to Thailand to access the service. Every patient must pay a ‘sterilisation fee’ at every visit and packages for all dental instruments required are opened on your chest.
My implantologist is Canadian-trained. I’ve been very happy with the result. I realise I was coming from a very different perspective, one of utter shock and disgust at the profession and its governing body, whereas you’re just expressing dismay at the cost. But if you’re interested, I’ll give you the name and contact details of the facility and you can start your own research into it.

Well everyone sounds so busy, it is hard to keep up! We are half way through outstanding October; must award stars to @missybear for the loose jeans and to @iona72 for the exceptional activity level! I aspire to your dedication!
@molij, I hope you will be able to post us to let us know how you are doing.
@flourbaby and @brightonbelle, I agree, we should be pounding the living daylights out of the reset button. It sounds like @northgeorgia is going to join us hammering the reset button!
@michelinme, I don’t envy you your work burden, but you have a plan. You seem quite organized and capable in spite of the craziness!
Down we go everyone. Two more weeks of October glory!
Day 15 Wales 🏴 NFD
Successful FD yesterday, I was a little bit hungry at times and got very cold towards the end of the day but I slept well and I’m now delaying breakfast for as long as possible.
@molij if you’re up to reading forum posts, hope all went well with your operation yesterday. Wishing you a speedy recovery 🤗
@iona72 looking forward to a winter of slack and baggy clothes 😉
@northgeorgia good to see your enthusiasm to get back on the wagon but remember you have been ill, listen to your body and ease up if you need to, straight back into 5:2 with 4 days of 500FDs is ambitious, take care 🤗
Keep on keeping on everyone.
Day 15 UK CD
Wow am I really the first poster ? Good solid start yesterday not entirely sure about today yet but planning next FD Thursday
Bit of a random post from @marsbar2 ?
Got to get going as have a dentist appointment, catch up later 👋
Good morning everyone.Xx
its another grey day here. Where did lovely autumn days go too.
I have put 2 lbs on the last few days .. probably the amount of mince pies I have eaten I love them with a cup of tea. lol So that’s it now.. no more for a while. Weight soon goes on with a few extra treats. Thats why I like to weigh every morning.
Sym.. That sounds a wonderful life for the lady on the cafe boat. Lovely to support her while enjoying coffee.
Nana .. You will soon get those lbs off riding your bike.
Dave.. Its a lovely feeling to feel lighter.
H H .. Enjoy your days away… Hope the weather is kind for you.
Enjoy your day everyone whatever you are doing.. Happy Tuesday.. Xxxx
Thank you Iona.
I can feel my goal of losing 14lb by the end of the year slipping through my fingers but there’s nothing I can do about that.
I shall be in in a better place this January than I was last year at the health review. I was hoping to have lost rather more weight but I would be very happy with 2 inches of my waist instead.
Onwards and downwards fast friends.
Hi Quacka, I’m joining you on a Tuesday fast. I skipped breakfast this time so I could eat a bigger lunch (I made a salad with chickpeas, feta, onion, beetroot and pickles)
As I posted before, I didn’t go overboard on calories this weekend, but those excess sugar and carbs always seem to make me retain a lot of water. I can see how much extra I’d be lugging to the scales by how much I’ve been weeing over the last two days of not eating any sugar or heavy carbs. I’m sure my workmates must think I’m either sick or wagging work.
Ouch on the dental work, it’s no wonder people avoid going to the dentists until it’s absolutely necessary with the amount they charge these days.
Hi everyone
It’s Tuesday FD for me today. I didn’t fast yesterday as I had a visit to the dentist in the middle of the day and thought I was going to need something major done but it ended up being a clean and a plan for three crowns to come. $1700 each thank you very much.
It’s almost 1pm and so far so good
thin, you’re right about the produce in WA. There were a few nice things but mostly really hard to find decent produce. Also I couldn’t believe there was no fresh seafood – all frozen! And what??? A peeled egg in a packet! That sounds gross.
G’day – lucky you realised about the weights of those bags of Pepitas! Illegal and totally rude to rip people off like that. Hope you sort them out!
Cinque – hope that reflux settles soon. I’m thinking of you
Back to work for me. Take care xx
@annette52
Speaking from experience, try not to be frustrated by the plateau, it’s your body adjusting and good things will happen if you stick with it!!
Day 14 – NE England – IF 16:8 – DTF
Quick check in before bed. It has been a good day, lovely sunny, crisp, cold weather.
Eating has been controlled and step count is high!
@missybear great news with the jeans, I’ve had to buy a new belt for mine! Annoying that I bought them last year, hardly wore them and now far too big.
Don’t get done for speeding you two😂. The electric bikes round here do about 40mph. They fly past you. I feel thinner but not getting on the scales until the 6th November.
Day 14 Wales 🏴 FD
Busy day and just realised I haven’t checked in today. Something good is happening, I put my jeans on this morning and noticed they feel baggy in the bum and upper legs 🥳
FD going well, starting to feel hungry but it will soon be time for dinner so that’s fine. Hope my fellow Monday fasters are doing well 💪

Afternoon everyone,a cold one here both inside and out as we’ve had some new windows installed. Window installers have just left so our heating is now put on and our woodburner is going well.
A lovely few days away last week which we spent doing our favourite things which are walking, eating and reading.I had gained two pounds when I weighed myself the morning after we got home.
No Wednesday lunchtime meet up for me this week as I’ll be attending the funeral of one of my late mums friends.
Will probably be going out on Geraldine for a ride tomorrow weather permitting, also OH has now got himself an electric bicycle so wants to try it out.
Hope everyone is keeping well.

Day 14 UK FD
This is my busiest week of the year in the run up to conference, plus really behind and slightly chaotic with all other project stuff. Partly bc illness over summer, partly bc time out for DD’s support. I’m going to put my head down and plough through this week then come up for air, but post daily.
I forgot to weigh myself this morning but expect to be up ff weekend of relaxed NFDs -no going wild but I didn’t count calories and enjoyed mindful indulgence. This week I’m going to have 2 old fashioned FDs and 3 FD800/CD ahead of a more relaxed weekend. Last Friday I reminded myself how simple it is to stick to a 500 calorie FD when I commit and don’t let myself waiver. So I can obviously do it again today!
I’ve had a couple of urgent meetings thus far and am online training this evening so need to have supper by 6pm. Depending on project work it’ll either be supermarket ‘fresh’ minestrone soup and a defrosted dahl or soup & stir-fried tofu/veggies. I’ve had over a litre of fizzy water/electrolytes plus decaf black coffee and marmite tea: I’ve got this.
Okay, cracking on with reading/responding to meeting papers, prepping for tonight’s training and picking up most urgent emails. Then if time, listing outstanding actions in my notebook for prioritise/schedule when next at desk.
@northgeorgia @flourbaby @brightonbelle i can hear your resolve from here – good luck with your week, you’ve got this!
@stitchincarol looking forward to details of your fabulous feast 🙂

Day 14, London, UK, NFD
I’m with you @brightonbelle, I’m giving that reset button a good hammering this morning!! I appear to be doing 2:5 except the 2 weekend NFDs descend into EFS days rather than CDs!!😫😭 I understand the concept of 5600 cals per week, but I think I’m rebelling!!! I’ll try again from tomorrow to get through October with Outstanding FD800 results, I just need to find the resolve, determination & discipline I had the first time around on this fasting carousel!!!
@merryapple, I really hope the physio gets you back to normal ASAP!!!☝🏽
@funshipfreddie, last summers hols in Ischia included a visit to some thermal springs – https://negombo.it/en/
they had hot (38 degree) pools next to cold pools and I was completely addicted to jumping (ok, gingerly walking) from one to the other!! The effects surprised me as that cold shower business (still) sounds like torture ……………… my hand just refuses to turn the knob to cold!!🥶🥶🥶
I must dash, I’m still buried under deadlines and new tasks and general ‘stuff’ to deal with!!
Stay strong folks!!💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼

Day 14 – USA/GA – FD
Weigh-in: 240 lbs. My plan is to have four FD500s through Thursday 🙂 We shall see!! I’m excited to jump on the wagon again 🙂

Day 14-No. VA USA-FD 800
Everyone sounds busy this past weekend. @ccco, evenings are also my times to decompensate…so I understand how you feel. @funshipfreddie, I think, has suggested having some vegetables like carrots or celery available to nibble on to distract us from mindlessly eating stuff (in my case, it would be cheese, for example). @penz, a 500 day is a good day. I have not had a good 500 cal. day in a while! @brightonbelle and @northgeorgia are back on the wagon today! @merryapple, so sorry to hear your hand is causing problems. I am hoping your PT will help gradually strengthen things. How was scaling the mountain with terriers?
Down we go, all.
Day 14 UK FD
Right reset button pressed ! Was very happy with weight on Thursday after getting back from hols and then seem to have lost the plot over the weekend So I’m not getting on the scales until Friday and in the meantime getting back to normal 2 FDs , eat sensibly the othe days and up my exercise – back to basics !!

Day 14, FD (ish), Aus
Today’s planned WFD morphed into a 500 cal day, so not too bad.
More tmw, when I look forward to reading @stitchincarol‘s post-birthday feast report.
Day 15 NZ FD 69.5kg 🏃🏼♀️
The day is nearly over here. I had lambs liver for dinner with vegetables . I’m hoping the Omega-3s and iron will be good… My whole hand is twice as bad as I thought it was going to be ☹️ I have my first appt with the physio tomorrow and so the rehab road starts……
Have a good day esp those on the Monday FD💪
Day 14 – South Africa 🇿🇦 – NFD 70.6 kg
Had the easiest FD ever. I spent most of the afternoon playing cards with neighbours on a sunny patio. Food appeared at some stage, but I wasn’t tempted, or coaxed into eating anything & I just had coffee 😇
@northgeorgia – nooo?! $15 for blank paper?! Buy a regular notebook for around $3 & write ‘Food is Totally Overrated’ on the front. You’re welcome 😜
I have to attend a Body Corporate meeting this morning, estimated to last around 3 hours 😒 So I’ll probably be breaking my fast only after 1 pm.
Have a good week everyone

Good Morning / Afternoon / Evening 😉 whatever time it is where you all are. Hope you are all doing well and having successful FD’s
Just a quick check in to say HI and good grief how quickly is this year flying by?
FD’s were good last week. Doing Wed & Fri this week as we I have my Dad for dinner tomorrow – my usual FD and I have quite a day today with mini me , so I can see it would not work out well to do a FD today. I am learning to pick my battles with fast days. Its easier to be in a good space when doing them.
Thanks Cinque & Neil for the IBS info. I havent really made many changes on my non FD and I cant imagine my FD causing it but I do think that as we get older , our bodies start reacting differently to some foods – probably because of how food is manufactured or grown more than anything else these days. I also do love a bread roll or sandwich more for lunch boxes when the weather is cold – I cannot face salad in winter, so it could also have been that, as it was during a cold snap the carbs were preferable and I over did it .
Anyway, must do some work. Leaving work early today for the first of 3 dance festivals for Mini me. Have a good week all and happy FD’s .
