  • In an ideal world id like to stick to the same fasting days every week but recently its been abit all over the place due to weddings/parties/holidays etc.

This week im attempting to fast on a saturday? how difficult do people find a saturday to fast?

I don’t like doing weekends but I have done when necessary (too much going on in the week to manage 2 days otherwise etc.). When I do do a weekend I try to make sure it’s a day when I can sleep in quite late (takes care of half the day) and have plenty to occupy me once I am awake – preferably out of the house and involving light exercise.

My usual fastdays are Monday and Wednesday because they are the 2 days where I am working very late and/or going to the gym (swimming) on my way home. I just find it easier to go ‘nil by mouth’, except for water, on those days until I get home. It does also mean that I get both fastdays out of the way quickly in the week.

Monday Wednesday and Friday, although I allow a higher calorie intake on Friday. I also fast entirely till dinner time (6:00-7:30) and the weekends are off, I start fasting from after dinner the day before so sunday Tuesday and Thursday I don’t eat or drink any calories past 6:30-8pm, the time of the last dinner. This fits into my schedule perfectly, can still enjoy the weekend whilst fasting the days I work/ exercise in the evening.

I find it easier to do a lunchtime to lunchtime fast then I never go a full day without food. Sunday evenings are always busy preparing for work etc so I have a healthy lunch, miss my evening meal which isn’t bad at all. I always sleep better when I am hungry and weirdly enough never wake up hungry. I can cope without breakfast but am always starving by mid morning but I can cope with that as I know I can eat again in a few hours. Wed/Thurs is my second fast day as work is always hectic midweek. I meditate in the bedroom when my husband and daughter eat dinner as it distracts me, I have even been known to cycle very hard for 5 minutes to keep my mind off food.

Definitely like fasting on a Monday as psychologically I like the idea of a ‘new week’. I haven’t tackled a weekend yet, I would definitely find it harder as I tend to socialise around food on the weekend. However, I think keeping busy in the key, & doing lots of things which isn’t around food… Like going to the theatre or cinema etc 🙂 Good luck!

I am doing the 6:1 to maintain now. I prefer to use Saturday as my Fast Day.

I weigh myself once a week – on Sunday.

I find that what works for me is to bookend my weigh-in with fasting days.

So, I fast on a Saturday – with the incentive that I really want a loss on the scales the next day. And then I fast on a Monday – hopefully buoyed up by a loss the day before!

For me, the flexibility of 5:2 is important. Sometimes it just isn’t possible to stick to these days (especially if I take one of my meds…it is difficult/impossible to fast the following day)…and I love the fact that I can simply alter the days….I did Tuesday this week and am planning on the ‘usual’ Saturday.

I think any day from Monday to Thursday works for me as going to the office helps to pass the time fast so I sit down with the family to have dinner.

Friday to Sunday would never work for me… haha!!!

A very interesting range of answers there.

    Thank you all xx

I like Mondays and Thursdays. Mondays because I like the sense of detox after the weekend. I try not to do 2 days consecutively (I did that in the beginning and it ain’t no picnic) and Wednesdays are market days in my family. Market day equals pastry day so that’s not the best time to fast. Friday night rings in the weekend so I don’t want to be fasting. Which leaves Thursdays. It also devides the week nicely in half so I get less weight fluctuation.

I did like Mondays and Wednesdays but then Wednesdays became a permanent squash playing day, have changed it to Mondays and Thursdays, but if that doesn’t fit in, it changes to Mondays and Saturdays – definitely do like the idea of fasting one day in the weekend so if Friday night is a big social night, i can have a detox day soon after….
