  • Hi All,

I just started the 5:2 last week, I still haven’t seen the documentary but a friend raved about it and I thought I’d give it a try – only after I read the book from start to finish!

I’m 34 years old and was slim (UK size 8-10) up until I turned 25. Having lived on my own for a while and being super lazy, I lived on takeouts and meals out for over a year. My weight slowly crept up and before I knew it I was over 12 stone. I’ve tried Weight Watchers a few times and whilst I lost weight (I once got down to 10 stone) it eventually crept back on.

I was 12 stone, 8lbs when I started the 5:2 last week and after one week, I currently weigh 12 stone, 4lbs. I’m absolutely delighted with myself! I found the first fast day really hard, purely because I wasn’t very busy in work but the second day of last week seemed a lot easier and I didn’t even notice it yesterday. I started with a personal trainer four weeks ago, working out twice a week, and I found that I had a lot more energy during our sessions last week. Even my trainer noticed the difference. I fast on a Monday and Wednesday and work out on a Tuesday and Thursday.

I got a bit of a fuzzy head on the fast days but I believe I’m not drinking enough water throughout the day. Apart from that I have no other complaints. I was really surprised to find that I wasn’t ravenous after a fast day, I expected to eat my way through the contents of my fridge but its not the case at all.

Fingers crossed the weight loss continues! I don’t plan on weighing myself again for another two weeks, I’d rather not get caught up on what the scales say as it has disappointed me in the past.

Hi ShellM – welcome to the forum and well done on your first week’s progress. The fasts will get easier so bear with them, and I am sure the weight will come off and stay off. I am in a similar position to you, I lost a lot of weight a couple of years ago and then thought I was invincible and ended up just eating all the weight back on again – so I’m on the 5:2 to lose the weight again and keep it off.

    Good luck and happy fasting!

Hello ShellM and welcome form me too!

wishing you all the best on 5.2, lots of support on here and always someone on had with advice 🙂

let us know how you get on and good luck! 🙂

    Welcome ShellM,
Sounds as if you have jumped in with two feet – well done.
Have you taken your measurements and worked out your TDEE? You will find it under How? at the top of each page.
You really won’t need scales as your clothes will tell you how well you are doing 🙂

Hi ShellM welcome from me too.
Well done on your first week, this is a great forum lots of friendly people + guidance.

    Keep believing :-).

    Keep us posted X

Thanks everyone, best of luck to you too.

LindyW, what is my TDEE? I’m working with a trainer who took my measurements, body fat, fiscal fat and BMI readings – is that more or less it? After the first four weeks with him I lost inches – 3 of my chest, 1.5 from each bicep, 1 of my waist, 1 from my hips and 1.5 from each thigh. My body fat came down by 2% and my BMI came down 1 but I didn’t lose a single pound – however what did I expect when I wasn’t exactly eating all that healthy!

How has the weight loss been for everyone else? Are you all working out as well? Anyone any experience of working out on a fast day?

    Hi ShellM

sounds like you have a good plan there lol, and I can relate to your working out and loosing inches instead of lbs 🙂 though I don’t train as much as you do lol, I know I am getting smaller, I am not exactly big but I have to be careful all the time!!
I started out at 9’13 and now down to 9’6, give or take 1 lb there and then 😉

    good luck and keep going!!
