  • Hi – first time here. Just wanted to say that I started the Fast Diet on October 21, 2013, fasting 3 days a week religiously since then. I decided on 3 days instead of 2 because it’s just so darn easy! As of today, March 7, 2014, I’ve lost 28 pounds (From 166 to 138) and am down from a size 14 to a size 10 (which is a little big on me now). I’ve never felt better! I am almost 59 years old and didn’t think it was possible, but I have obviously totally rebooted my metabolism. This is not a diet – it’s a lifestyle – and it WORKS! Thank you!

    Fantastic Lili!!!

inspiring post, so well done 😉

    Hi Lili
Well done, you are an inspiration to us all
Going from a 14 to a 10, you must feel so proud.
    Mossend

    congratulations! 🙂

Hi Lilli, wow well done you,
    so pleased for you 🙂

Thanks, everybody! If I can do it anybody can, because I am historically a terrible dieter.

    Bravoooo!!! 🙂

Hi here is my 5:2 experience.
    Heard about the horizons documentary.
Got to see it in May 2013 thought about the concepts and ideas put forward in the program for about a week and thought I can do this.
I am 194cm and was 120 kilo big fat bastard, had a big slab of fat on my gut. I was not happy.
Take B/P tabs, Crestor for cholesterol. Still taking will do bloods in May.
Did take Nexum for a hiatus hernia. I don’t take it now.
I initially started by trying to do a 48 hour fast just to see how I would go. I did about 45 hours just drinking coffee, a macciatio with sugar, plenty of water. The first food after the fast was a chip from Macdonalds as I was out with the grand kids, the taste of fat was overwhelming.
My taste sensitivity was very impressive.
From then on I was into it. I did ADF, 8, 12, 18, 24, 36, 48, hour fasts when ever I felt like it,
I generally did evening meal to evening meal.
If I was fasting and had a social encounter I would break the fast and fast the next day. I never counted calories on feast days, ate whatever I liked, stopped snacking,
Stopped breakfast didn’t need it, had great energy on fast days, would walk 25kms some days.
Would break fast with a beer, a few wines at times they never tasted so good and evening meals were, generally meat and vegetables.
The results were very encouraging 10inches off my gut the slab of fat is gone I can tie up my shoe laces in comfort.
I bought some smart scales and regularly weigh myself. The weight variation from day to day could be as much as 4 kilos, depending on the volume of water I consume.
As at the 12/03/2014 I weigh 98 to 101 kilos as I think there is no definitive weight, your weight is just a range where you are at depending on fluid retention.
During the diet I basically did what ever I liked no rules, the ease of weight loss and feeling of wellness was the driving force.
I Read the book The Fast Exercise and stated to do 5 flights of stairs 3 X Times 3 X Times a week. I now get my maximum Heart Rate up to 180 without sweating.
B/P has now come down to a more normal reading.

    Bibliography

“Fast Exercise by Michael and Peta.

Stopped (November 2013) having sugar after reading.

“Big Fat Lies” by David Gillespie.

“Pure White and Deadly” by John Yudkin.

Have had plateaus thought out the weight loss.
I can cook for for others on fast days, it’s difficult to fast with the grand kid.
This has been a real change for me it is doable just be very flexible do tomorrow what can’t be done today. Eat anything not every thing.
Now have an expresso Machine, love my coffee.
The chat site is very good and supportive.

That’s my take on this whole adventure, I maybe 130 kilos in 2015 so be it.
It’s working now, I think you have to mix it up and enjoy, the diet industry is watching and will discredit when ever it can, there is no money in nothing.

    All the best
    Stewart

Absolutely brilliant Stewart, you’ve done amazingly well. I’ve just started this and don’t have much weight to lose (I’m female and 50 btw) but I’m hoping to reap the health benefits and lose a bit of weight for my holiday in June too. I’m finding it very do-able so far, far easier than counting calories which feels restrictive every day instead of just 2 so I’m just going to keep plodding on and see how I go with it. I’m roping my husband in tomorrow too – he’s 49 and has that middle-aged belly thing going on but isn’t really overweight anywhere else so he’s hoping he can get get rid of that before we go away.

Thanks for the inspiration Stewart and good luck with the rest of your weight loss journey.

    Karen

Great feedback from Lili and Stewart – an inspiration to us all. Chapeau !

Well done you 2 – they are fantastic results!!!!!

Karen – you can do it. Good luck!

Stewart – awesome job! I didn’t mention that I went for lab work recently and my numbers had dropped very impressively – total cholesterol down 75 points, triglycerides down 60 points, and LDL down a whopping 80 pints – so you should be off your meds in no time! Well done!

Wierd thats day that I started 5:2 what a great day hey?! Welldone you! You must be so happy to be a svelt size 10 now. Im down to 14 hopefully will be joining you soon in that size 10 🙂

I’ve lurked on this site long enough—it’s time to share our stories. One year ago, I was a chubby (who am I kidding? I was fat) 55 year old man—5’7”, weighing 214 pounds—with a waistline that was approaching a ‘very tight’ 37 inches.

Over the years, my weight had crept up on me. For the first time in my life, my feet actually ached after a week’s vacation walking the streets of a foreign city. It was time to do something. I had seen Michael on a television show and thought, “that looks incredibly easy!” I was ready to give it a try. For the first month, I was on my own—my partner didn’t join me. We eat well. We both cook and love to entertain. The first week was hard for me—I won’t tell you otherwise. That first day, 600 calories seemed like it was gone in an instant, but I persevered. The second day, it was easier. By the second week, I decided to save my calories for a meal in the evening. I drank coffee in the morning, water (a great deal all day at work) and made a meal each evening. The Forum here provided some great tips on meals. (thanks to whomever mentioned ‘cauliflower rice’!) After the first month, the results were already apparent. My partner decided to join me. It made all the difference in the world. We fast on Mondays and Wednesdays. We do not fast when we’re on vacation. On the days when we’re not fasting, we eat as we always have.

The results? After the first six months, I had lost 40 pounds. My partner had lost almost 30. At seven months, I saw my physician. During ‘weigh in’, the nurse kept trying to enter my weight, but the computer sensed that she was entering it incorrectly and kept sending her an error message to re-weigh me. I had lost 50 pounds! My blood pressure had plummeted to 100/65 from 135/100. My cholesterol had dropped, as well as had my triglycerides. My doctor was impressed. He was even more impressed to know that I had done it, ostensibly, without increasing my physical activity. I’m not sedentary, but I don’t go to the gym for workouts. As of today (about one year to the day that I first came here), I’ve lost about 55 pounds. My waist in my new pants (the down side of this program was the expense in acquiring new clothes!) is a very loose 33”. My partner has lost about 40 pounds.

The truth be told, it’s been incredibly easy. Mostly, I suspect, because we’ve done it together. This is a program that is sustainable for us for the rest of our lives. We’ve survived vacations and holidays and the weight has stayed off! We’ve reached plateaus and kept on track. Many of our friends, having seen our results, have now embarked on the same journey.

Thank you all for your inspiration, guidance and tips over the last year.

It is good to hear of success as well as challenges. Congratulations to both your and your partner for shedding a significant portion of your bodies and for spreading the word on how this eating plan can work.

Success! just weighed in and I have lost 6.5 kg since January 7th! 3.5 kg to go and I will be back on a healthy BMI 🙂

Congrats to all! Johnnytango – you have quite a story. That is awesome! I love my fasting days – I feel so much better not overeating. And I checked out the cauliflower rice. Yum! Definitely on the menu soon.

Update for me – I seem to have plateaued at a 28.5-pound loss, which is perfectly fine, but ideally I’d like to lose about 5 more. I’ll keep at it. However, I am down another size, to an 8, which was not something I was even aspiring to because I really didn’t think it was possible.
