  • Week 3 – it is so lovely to read everyone’s successful weight loss. Feeling positive today and am going to fast on Monday, Wednesday and Friday this week – there I have told you all, so I will have to do my best to achieve it!!
    Just had delicious Bolotti and Kale soup from M&S for lunch – really worth a try, only 138 cals for half the pot (serves 2) nice and filling and hopefully should keep me going until tonight.
    I have lost 5lbs and am pleased with that but want to push on whilst the momentum is there.

    Hi everyone,

    This is my second week and I must say I’ struggling today! I’ve got an awful cold, but I have stuck to eating little and with my dinner (salmon and vegetables) i will have have 547 calories. I’m going to go to the gym tonight but take it easy. Well done to everyone with their weight loss. My next fast day will be Thursday so I will weigh myself on Friday!

    How is everyone coping today? 🙂

    I am done with my dinner so just went to brush my teeth. And plan to knit and knit and knit until bed time. Teeth brushed and hands busy – I hope this stops from picking up things to eat 😉

    Hello all – I started last week and today is my third fast day. 🙂 I haven’t measured myself yet but am feeling like things are already fitting better which is nice!

    I’ve been going with nothing to eat for the full day until dinner, that way I can spend all my calories on something nice and filling. I haven’t tried it the other way (eating throughout the day) but I feel like that would be harder for me.

    Just popping in to say hi to everyone – hopefully we can all keep each other motivated!

    Keep it up Lusherx but don’t stress your body too much because it won’t do you any good.
    In my experience when I’ve had a cold I tend not to lose anything so I’m fighting to stay healthy even though my husband has a bug at the minute.

    So much for the omelette! I had chicken casserole, home cooked with skinless chicken,stock cube, water ,carrots, swede, onion and garlic with fresh thyme. Oh and thinly sliced potatoes on top! I’m a carb junky for sure.ive no idea how many carbs that was and I had two helpings, but it’s still better than bingeing. Thanks Lusherx for the tip. I’ll try fasting until the evening meal at 5.30 for my next fast day on Wed or Thursday.

    And I’ve now got the book so I’ll be an expert yet! Lol

    Sorry, it’s LacerX advised to try fasting with just one meal, so thanks for that tip. I’m going to try that. Lusherx good luck for the rest of the week and hopefully Friday will bring you good news when you get on those scales. I’ll be doing god same on Friday.

    Fast has went well today although still getting tummy pains whenever i eat anything i think i could be constipated my calorie counting app reminds me daily that im not eating enough fiber so ny plan this week is to buy some foods that are packed with it and hopefully get me back on track. A little tip i want to share is marshmallows well marshmallow twists or flumps these tasty little treats are only 9cals each and i usually have 2 on fast days they really help with that bland taste in the mouth juat that little bit of flavour to keep me going til dinner

    Thanks Mamie may! I’m going to be gutted if I haven’t lost any weight this week if you say you don’t lose any when you’re ill! I managed to go for a run and will go for another one on Wednesday. Hopefully I’ll be better by then. Have a good week everyone!

    My fast yesterday just didnt happen, I started feeling really ill mid morning, really bad stomach pains and headache, so … I ate yesterday, but kept it low. Attempting to fast today, feeling much better. I dont know if i’d picked up a bug or something, but I was feeling so unwell yesterday and just wasnt up to fasting. Back on it today though, and then my usual fasting day on Thursday!

    Hi everyone. Yesterday didn’t go so well for me. I had a toasted cheese sandwich before bed so I ate over 800 cals. 🙁 I was so annoyed with myself. But I am fasting today instead. Sorry you were feeling unwell yesterday Dragon Fly. Hope you get on well today. I am going to stick to it today no matter what!!!!

    Hope you feel better soon Dragonfly! I bought a black americano from coffee and was going to get a ham and cheese toastie (I’m not on a fast day) but they had ran out. I think it was a blessing in disguise..!! I’ve got a salad and fruit for lunch and for dinner I am having prawns with vegetables and some noodles. Looking forward to it!

    My fast yesterday went well! Feeling good and positive this morning. Love the feel of a good fast when I wake up! So motivating!

    Fasting today also. Might be kinda hard as I am really busy today. I am a pilates instructor and have 6 clients today. Also I instruct yoga and Kettlebell classes and both of those start today. Need every calorie I put in my mouth count to keep me filled up and energized!

    Glad your feeling better dragonfly 🙂 and dont be to hard on yourself Yvonne im sure the time will come that we all will break a fast today is a new day and 800cals really isnt that bad. Feeling great today after yesterdays fast i love waking up with that feeling of achievement. I love how mindful i am now about food and how food that i would never look at before seem so delicious before 5:2 i would always have a sandwich for lunch or sausage rolls. To be honest now i feel sick when i think of sausage rolls. On non fast days now i have brunch instead of breakfast and lunch. Just had a bowl of special k with half a chopped banana on top and it was really tasty. I wont eat again now until dinner and my night time snacking has completely stopped 🙂

    Well yesterday was a horrible fast. I was shattered because I’d had less than 5 hrs sleep and in all honesty I think I’m better off having normal milk and only having 200kcals to eat throughout the day.
    Almond milk tastes ok in my tea but it’s the wrong colour and it’s not nearly as sustaining as normal milk. I still only “ate” 250kcal so I treated myself to a proper cuppa before bed. Far more satisfying.
    Today is a non-fast day and I’ve learned the benefits of a ‘large’ breakfast, skipping lunch and a ‘light’ dinner. Scrambled eggs, bacon and a slice of toast and I’m not feeling the slightest bit hungry yet.

    Hey everyone, good to see continued motivation and determination. I’ve seen a lot of posts about milk and how soya/almond milk doesn’t taste the same etc. I’m lactose intolerant, but don’t like soya milk. There’s a brand called Arla, who do lactose-free milk. It’s still cows milk, so has the same taste, but the lactose sugars have been removed. It has less calories than normal milk or soya. It’s available from all supermarkets so easy to find.

    Luckily, I fasted successfully yesterday! It was my third fast so far and was not too bad. My husband even decided to fast with me, although just for that day “to see what it was like”. 🙂 I made a dinner of shredded brussels sprouts, onion, kale and pancetta sautéed together with an egg cracked on top at the end. It was really yummy and since I used chicken broth instead of olive oil to sauté, it came in around 350 calories. And I got to eat a lot of it since it was mostly low cal brussels sprouts.

    Next fast is on Thursday. Also – I’m in the states (west coast) so I’ll be chiming in after most of you. 😉

    Hi everyone, failed my fast yesterday so doing one today instead and so far it’s going well – slim soup for lunch and tea, plus some celery sticks, bovril, water and camomile tea to drink and I’m going to finish off the day with a low cal hot chocolate drink. I need to make up for being rather naughty over the weekend so will need alot of luck on my side if I’m going to lose anything this week. Didn’t lose anything last week due to being poorly and not managing my fasts so if I’m still the same I’ll be going for it next week. Only 4 weeks until we go away to Glasgow and would love about 4 lbs off by then.
    Next fast is thursday or friday x

    Hi everyone,I also started 5:2 on the 5th and have finally plucked up the courage to join you!! I am finding the fasting days easy and are just having a couple of cans of soup but its the other days that are difficult – still got Christmas chocolate to eat! I’ve lost 4lb so far which I’m pleased about but still got 17 to go….

    I’m so happy with this diet! This is the first diet I think I will finally be able to lose the weight that I need to lose. I started on 1/5 and as of today have lost 9 lbs! It’s great seeing results so quickly.

    Hi everyone, am enjoying reading your posts so far. I also started on the 5th and have lost 4lb so far. I’ve been surprised by how good I feel on the diet as I was worried I would get headaches or feel faint but it has made me realise I can cope with hunger. I started at 11 stone 6 lb and am aiming for 9 stone 7lb. I am going on holiday in May and would love to be 10 stone by then. I am losing weight more slowly on this diet than others I have done in the past so I am trying to be patient!!!

    I’m in a similar situation to you Sparkle_lg ! I started as 11.7 stone and am aiming to get down to 10 stone. I started last Monday and have done 4 fasts so far. I had lost 4lb when I weighed myself on Sunday so I will weigh myself again on Friday. Good luck!

    Well dont i feel awful now 🙁 after my comment earlier about how im loving not craving the naughty foods and how my evening snacking has disappeared well i spoke too soon because i have just ate chocolate and crisps 🙁 im not gonna lie it was a bit of a binge. Its not a fast day and im only a tiny bit above my TDEE but i feel like absolute crap 🙁 why did i do that why?? I had a stirfry for dinner and a muller light yogurt after i was full and satisfied i done some house work bathed my little boy and put him to bed. Sat down with a coffee to watch some tv and the cravings kicked in i honestly could cry 🙁 my plan to remedy this is to fast 3 times this week i fasted yesterday will fast tomoro and friday hopefully that will undo some of the damage

    Oh Kirstya86 relax and breathe. It’s the beauty of this WOE that you can climb straight back on and no harm done. I felt like crap the day after I had chocolate and crisps (literally, it made my stomach hurt and I got horrible gut cramps) and although I hadn’t gone over my TDEE I still made sure I was eating good things like high fibre and protein throuh the rest of the week.
    It was probably only your mind doing the craving rather than your body but I know I haven’t craved chocolate since because of my adverse reaction. That can only be a good thing, can’t it?
    Good luck with the rest pf your week and don’t sweat a hundred or so kcals because other days you probably eat less than your TDEE.

    Kirstya86 I feel for you. No one was worse than me for evening snacking. I would sit in front of the tv most nights, after a BIG tea, with a large G&T, crisps, nuts and chocolate. Alcohol is so cheap here in Spain, it is so easy to get into very bad habits, and I did. I’ve not had a G&T since starting 5 2 but I have had a small bag of crisps, and a couple of squares of chocolate some nights. Why not? It’s not a sin. And I have still lost weight. As Mamie says you are probably under your TDEE other days so it will all balance out. So you went over one day, you stumbled slightly, you are human. Overall you are racing ahead, go girl, we can do this!!

    Thanks Applepie and Mamie. Feeling a lot better about it this morning and a bit foolish for my over reaction. I am well below my TDEE every other day so its fine thats what 5:2 is about after all. I had a slip its over now move on and continue. I doubt it will happen again soon 🙂

    Ah Kirsty you are being very hard on yourself! I think everyone should be focusing on how well they are doing. Having been a yo-yo dieter for the last 10 years I know how disappointing it is when you feel like you’ve sabotaged yourself but the important this is to not let it lead to a catastrophic response (that’s a wee term from last weeks Horizon diet show) which is where you just say well I’ve ruined my diet now so I may as well just have a total blow out. The great thing about this diet, well I think anyway, is that it is so flexible- you can just swap the next day for your fasting day, or add another one in.
    I’m fasting today and looking forward to it- I think it makes me put in a better day at work when I’m not allowing myself to be clock-watching for lunchtime coming!!!

    Hi, I’m also fasting today and had a bit of a chocolate binge last night as well – oops! Back on track today though and am determined to see the fast through. I work in a school kitchen so find it hard not too nibble, on the plus side though I don’t get chance to eat my first meal – a can of soup – until after 2 so it makes my fasting day seem shorter. Go for it everyone who is fasting we can do it

    Weighed in this morning and I’m now at a 14lb loss, second fast day of the week today so hoping I’m a little lighter tomorrow.

    This week has been a complete nightmare with fasting, not been able to do it because my stomach has been giving me so much trouble. I’ve been eating regularly, but keeping it as low as I can, so dont feel too bad, but I’m missing the comfortably empty feeling!

    Slightly better today so am going to attempt my scheduled fast tomorrow, but I’m not being too strict if I can’t manage it. I’m not sure what is causing my tummy trouble, but its not nice at all.

    Wish me luck tomorrow, I seriously need to get at least one fast day done this week. Determined to see more weight loss on Monday!

    Awww Mamie dont be ashamed or disappointed you cant compare everyone is different 🙂 my sister and i used to diet together all the time even tho we ate the same things she always lost weight quicker than me. I would weigh myself after a week and be thrilled to lose 2lb and ring to tell her for her to tell me she lost 8lb lol

    Ha! I wish I’d dieted with my sister, skinny minx that she is. I know everyone is different and I need to be patient and let my own body do its thing but patience is a virtue I’ve never had in abundance.

    Evening from sunny australia. Well weighed in this morning and have lost another 0.8kg total weight loss 4.7kg. So now i am officially half way to my goal weight.
    Found out this week that i am most likely going to be made redundant, stress always makes me loose my appetite so this has probably helped with the weight loss.

    Hello from Wiltshire (although I’m Cornish) .. I have about 38lb to lose and (same old story) have had success with various regimes over the years but always end up around 13st – it seems that this weight is like a magnet and my body likes being that weight but I hate it! So I am hoping this 5:2 will be more a lifestyle change rather than a ‘diet’ per se. I started it on 12 Jan and am fasting Mon and Thurs (so today is fast day number 3). It’s not been so bad really – well, not as bad as I’d anticipated. I have skipped breakfast this morning and just had a cup of tea with a dash of skimmed milk. I will join colleagues in the cafe at work in a minute for lunch and someone’s just told me there’s curry on the menu today – aargghh! I will have to avert my eyes and just get to the fridge where there’s a low cal lunch waiting for me. There are always going to be these ‘tests of willpower’ I guess! I did lose 5.5lb after the first week but of course I know that should now slow down (pity, as otherwise I’d hit goal by about March 🙂 ).
    Nicky08, sorry to hear about your job. Keep positive and even if it happens, that old saying ‘when one door opens, another opens’ has proved true in my experience.

    Hello and welcome to the newbies 🙂 i was waiting to weigh in on saturday i had ordered new scales from Amazon thought they would arrive tomorrow but they came today i wanted to see if they worked so i jumped on and to my surprise i have lost another 2lb taking total weight loss so far to 11lb so shocked i have lost after my binge on tuesday night just shows fasting really does work even if you have had a bad food day. To lose this much in under 3 weeks really is amazing i keep waiting for it to slow down but it hasnt yet 🙂 if i can lose 2lb every week i will be over the moon 😀

    I made it through my first day….really easy. The trick was, as everyone said, stay busy. I like that we pick our fast days so I can make it my busiest days of the week.
    I got on the scale and it dropped one pound!!!
