  • Hi, I’m 57 years old, 5′ 2″ and weigh 77.1 kg or 12.2 stone. I bought the book and started the 5:2 diet shortly after I’d seen the TV program back in 2012 but felt a bit disheartened because my weight hadn’t budged after 4 weeks fasting. Not sure what I was doing wrong, maybe overeating on my non-fast days, or perhaps that I don’t follow any exercise regime? Anyway, I lost interest after that, but as my weight is slowly but surely creeping up I really need to do something about it and am determined to make a good go of it 2nd time around. I’m enjoying reading through some of the posts and hoping to be able to post my own regular weight loss updates and encouragement to others.

Hi tryingtodiet, good for you trying it again. I probably started out at exactly the same time as you (August 2012 – the day after I saw the documentary). My best advice to you is put your scales in a cupboard and don’t even think about looking at them until you start to notice your clothes getting a bit looser. I never really expected significant ‘weight loss’ beyond some visceral fat that I suspected I was carrying (like Michael). It took me 2 months to notice that my trousers were a little more roomy & decide I’d better weigh myself. As I never took any start measurements I can’t be sure exactly what I’d lost but it was between 14-18lb.

Some people just don’t lose weight right away, some people might lose weight but don’t shrink right away. Whichever you are, you won’t know until you’ve given it a good couple of months. Just get comfortable with the lifestyle and find what works for you and worry about weight loss later.

    Good luck with it.

Tryingtodiet my advice is stick to it for 12 weeks, and see how it gets from there. I find that the novelty of thing wears out about month after starting something new so lots of people quit then. Good luck! 🙂
