  • Hi all,
I’m Gemma and new here so thought I’d say hi!
Me and my husband went on the fast diet early last year, about 3 months before our wedding, mainly for weight loss. I wanted to loose (in my dreams!) 2 stone and i managed to loose 13lbs. My husband lost about 1.5st.
After wedding we let the diet gradually slip and before i knew it xmas had past and it was the new year and i had put back on 7lbs!
So I’ve bought Michael’s book and we’re now back on (my husband more so reluctantly!). I have found the book so interesting but scary at the same time – i question most things i go to eat!!
This time round I’m finding it (suspiciously!) EASY! I have had no problem / hardly any hunger / good will power on fast days having just breakfast and dinner, whereas normally i used to get quite shaky / light headed if i ate lunch late.
I’m 5’8 and currently 12.7st. I’d love to get to 11.7st but i am quite ‘big boned’, lol, so not sure how realistic that is. My husband is 6’1 and around 17.7, again he is also stocky but I’m more worried about his health than weight/appearance. Usually I’m the one with zero will power so hopefully with my new found enthusiasm this time round i can get him on board more!
Finally on a random query – other than eggs for breakfast what other interesting meals can you all recommend? Although eggs for breakfast have kept me going all day it causes me awful indigestion/heartburn all day! It is definitely eggs as it happened yesterday and i had only eaten a plain omlette 🙁 suggestions would be most welcome!
Anyhoo thanks for reading and I’m looking forward to getting involved on the forum!

Hi Gemma, welcome to the forum 🙂

It sounds like you’re doing really well! I don’t have breakfast on fast days, I find it easier later on if I leave it as late as possible before eating anything, so generally around 2-3PM, but I like porridge as a filling ‘brekkie’ even if later :)I like oat so simple packets (golden syrup!), because then I know exactly how many calories I’m using without any weighing etc, without milk they are 135kcal a pack, and although they are packet and instant, there are no artificial colours/flavours/preservatives etc, another favourite is a banana, sliced down the middle with a teaspoon of peanut butter spread down the middle and sandwiched back together (I can’t tell you how good this is!)which with a medium banana and a teaspoon of skippy peanut butter is around 135kcal 🙂

Good luck on your 5:2 journey!

    Kits

    Hi Kits
Thanks for the tips – the banana idea sounds amazing! (I’m thinking of a non fast day treat with added ice cream lol!).
Before I was doing no breakfast, very small lunch then dinner, but after reading the book properly I now want to go long stretches to try and get most benefit. I’ve just had eggs again but taking some antacids into work with me! I like the porridge idea, if I still have no luck with eggs will give that I go next week 🙂

You’re welcome, yes I’ve just had my first fast day that I waited all day until dinner to eat, went pretty well 🙂

You know you can do a similar thing to what I said above and freeze them and they taste like ice cream. You cut the banana into chunks, hollow out a bit of the middle of each chunk, put some peanut butter in the hole, and then if you like, dip then in some melted chocolate. Let them cool then freeze, they’re amazing, you can even put them on little sticks like bananasicles 😉

I think I spend too much time on Pinterest. I’m not sorry though, these are amazing 🙂

    hi and welcome Gemma!

wishing you and hubs all the best, you know what to do, am sure you’ll do fab, let us know how you get on and happy fasting 🙂

    Hi Gemma,

SNAP. I’m just about to start my second time around and got married last year (July) putting on loads of weight afterwards. It sounds like its going really well for you but interestingly my husband actually finds it really hard to keep weight and put it on which initially I admit I scoffed at but he finds it really distressing.
I’m now at the stage where I need to do it for health reasons but have the joys of getting on the scales before I start on Monday which I’m not looking forward to.
Keep going and it will be great to follow your journey and see how you are going

    Claire x

thanks again for all your encouraging comments 🙂
