oatmeal portion

Hi,
I am wondering if I understand the measurement correctly: 1.4 ounces in the US is equivalent to half a cup of dry, steel cut oats (a tad less of assuming British ounces). But that’s the equivalent of two servings, or 300 calories! Can someone please help? Thanks.

Serving sizes on packs are deceitful and often much less than what an average person would consider a portion.

Oat is quite energy dense, however, the data I found for my favourite steelcut oats is a bit different: a portion is 40 g and it has 150 kcal per portion.

Obviously if you add milk, butter, syrup and so on, the calorie count will rise.

Are you sure you are looking at plain steelcut oats and not a ready made microwaveable porridge which usually has milk powder and sugar added?

It is a challenge for some to come to this way of eating after dieting for years and years with many rules to follow.

Eat less of the steel cut oatmeal, if you are concerned about calories. There are no rules about the portion size of the food you eat.

On Fast Days (during the waking hours), you are to eat 500 calories. What and how much you eat is up to you.

I buy from a bulk bin. I just checked McCanns, which indeed says 1.4 oz is 1/4 cup.

I think the initial website I checked was just plain wrong or it meant cooked, not raw.

Thanks. I have rarely dieted. But an injury kept me from exercising and a big dose of stress suddenly had me packing pounds. Gotta get rid of it!
