  • after years of dieting (I’ve tried them all) I started the 5:2 in April 2013 initially did well then plateaued towards the end of 2013. Started again last week did Monday, Wednesday and Friday til 5 pm lost 3 1/2 11bs. This week put on 2! My problem is I do not got to the loo (if you know what I mean) on fast days it seems the lack of breakfast seems to throw everything out. I tend to have 100 kcals at lunch then 400 in the evening with the family. I drink green tea and loads of water on fast days still nothing I am wondering is this diet simply isn’t for me? currently 5’4 and 11st 9lb would like to get under 11. Help please

hi Ehawkins and welcome to the forums

I am sorry about your metabolism problems, I am afraid I don’t have any real advice, this might seem a bit obvious but do you eat enough roughage food?
also maybe have a word with your GP?
am sure someone will be along with more helpful suggestions for you, good luck anyway and all the best 🙂

Chamomile tea can be helpful getting things going. For me I a have a kiwifruit or 2 every morning and don’t count it in my fasting allotment because of it’s very positive effect.
Angie is right we need to keep up the roughage–especially from greens. Juices don’t do it because the fibre is broken down.
A friend takes metamucil–which is a natural ‘shifter’
    good luck

Kiwi fruit now that’s a new one on me. I’ll try it , was diagnosed with IBS in feb last year starting taking mebeverene seems t help initially then stop!

    Hello and welcome.
I never weigh the day after a fast day, because I found that it took a couple of days for my body to adjust.Weight loss is just one part of the picture.

I would say to you, give it 6 weeks.Measure bust/chest, waist, hips, thighs and upper arms once a week. Weigh yourself once a week and try on clothes all on the same day.

You should find that an increase in drinking water should help. I just found that my body screeched to a halt on my fast days of Monday and Thursday. I weighed, measured and tried on clothes on a Saturday morning.

I have also found that when I plateau, I am shrinking.Often it is not from the scales but from clothes or the tape measure that I can see where it is going from.

Give it a go. There is no reason why this way of life cannot work for you.Keep us posted and we will help and support you where we can.

I forgot to add that if you can increase your exercise, that will really help.It seems to get things moving.

I doubt if it matters whether you go on your fast day, but if it worries you then the answer will be more fibre on other days. These things tend to settle after a few weeks, anyway.

I weigh on Monday mornings so I can’t ignore any weekend weakening!

Have you tried probiotics? I don’t mean the yogurts/drinks you get from the supermarket (useless!) but there are good ones you get from specialists – I don’t know if we are allowed to mention brands on here, but Optibac do a good range for specific problems such as yours, I have found them very helpful. Might be worth a try.
