  • Hi

I’ve been reading up, and looking into the 5:2 diet for a while, because I really need to lose some weight (3 kids in the last 14 years, quit smoking 7 years ago and never dealt with subsequent weight gain). I have 3 generations of family behind me who have died with diabetes and heart disease, cancers, etc. So I really need to accept that I am far too overweight and have to tackle this for the sake of my children.

Sooo… I had a lung function test about 5 weeks ago, and when I was weighed, I was horrified to discover that I was 14st 2oz. I bit the bullet, started by cutting portion sizes and not eating after 4pm (primarily to help control gastric reflux). Two weeks ago I started 5:2, and have moved up to 4:3 this week. I’m having no trouble sticking to it, as I’m a pretty busy Mum with a child with special needs and a physically disabled husband.

I can SEE the results, and I feel pretty good. I jumped on my doctor’s scales yesterday, and discovered that I am down to 13st 9oz. So its working!

I don’t do much exercise tbh, apart from what is involved in pushing a wheelchair, lifting, etc. So I am due to start at Gymophobics on Friday, visiting 3-4 times a week.

I would love to see a size 10 back in my wardrobe, for pure vanity, but more importantly I want to be healthy again.

There are lots of really positive threads here, you have me inspired!

    Hi @carm and welcome.

    What a wonderfully positive post.

As a mum of young children I’m sure you get loads of exercise! As you say ‘IT WORKS’

Keep us posted on your progress …you’ll get to that size 10. If someone had told me a year ago that I would be wearing size 12 jeans I would have laughed at them!

    keep on keeping on

    xx

Thank you Sylvestra for such a warm welcome!

Today is a fast day, not without its own hiccups. Only enough porridge for kids, so I nearly didn’t get my breakfast (which is all I eat on fast days). But my sweet and lovely 12 year old son made me eat his porridge and had something else, even though he LOVES his porridge on cold mornings!

Now, school run, and hospital appointment for my 14 year old.

    Have a good one!

    Thanks Angie

Yes, he is lovely. I’m dreading the moment he turns into a grumpy teen! (Like his big brother)

    hi Carm!

I have 2 grown up sons and both went through their teens in quite different ways as they are both so different!!

am sure your son will be fine, the grumpiness goes with the territory lol, and you kind of learn to recognise it 🙂

    have a lovely day xx
