  • I’m 54 and after watching Michael Mosleys documentary I decided to go for it. I have completed 3 weeks of 5:2 and feel no different. I haven’t weighed myself at all as I wanted to go by inch loss and how my clothes fit, but I’m still the same as before I started

    Hi Looneytunes and welcome:

You don’t say ‘how’ you are doing 5:2. Are you counting calories? Are you staying below 5/600 on diet days and below TDEE on non diet days?

Here is some information that might help. Numbers 1 and 2 might help you out a bit. If you want to share more information, then we might be able to help more: https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/

    Good Luck!

I am following the 5:2 to the letter from the Horizon documentary. I don’t follow my TDEE as it says to eat as you feel. I am less hungry on non fast days though.

    Hi Looneytunes:

I would suggest that you count calories for a few of your non diet days to see if you are staying below your TDEE.

Unfortunately, one of the big weaknesses of the program and book is it gives people the impression they can eat as much food as they want on non diet days. That is not true. If you have been gaining weight, you have been overeating (eating more than your TDEE). When you start 5:2, eat less for two days but continue overeating for the other five, the result is either very slow weight loss or no weight loss at all.

You have to eat less than your TDEE on average to lose weight. Unfortunately, there is no other way.

The thread I gave you pretty much covers it all.

    Good Luck!

That’s disappointing news as when I started 5:2 it was so I didn’t have to diet the conventional way of counting calories every day. I am not a huge eater anyway and as I stated above, I even eat less now that I am on 5:2.

    Thank you

    Hi Looneytunes:

5:2 is working for tens of thousands of people. However, if you don’t feel it will work for you, feel free to continue on the course you have been following.

    Good Luck!

As long as I don’t have to count calories every day using 5:2 I will be happy to keep with it as it was my chosen way of losing weight and improving my general health.

    Thank you.
