  • Hi Everyone
I’m LittleRedPhoenix, don’t mind LRP for short. I’m new to this diet, started today. I’m in the middle of my very first Fast Day today ๐Ÿ™‚

Read the 5:2 book a while ago and have now decided to give it a go. I’ve been doing LCHF which has been very successful so far, but finding it too restrictive – I hate being deprived of certain foods. I love long distance running, but really need to shift the weight I’ve gained over the past 18 months as it’s really had an impact on my running form. I’m also not at all comfortable being heavier than I was. I would like to lose around 16 pounds but lately have been finding it so difficult with motivation and sticking to my diet. Hoping to find some incentive now that I’ve changed my type of diet and looking forward to being part of the 5:2 Community. Really, really, REALLY looking forward to Feast Day tomorrow ๐Ÿ™‚

Welcome to 5:2 LittleRedPhoenix and I hope your 1st day went well yesterday? I am hoping though that you woke up this morning not particularly hungry and didn’t just tuck in to breakfast out of habit. It would be a ‘school boy error’ to think of your non-fastdays as ‘feast’ days – please don’t fall into that trap.

Best of luck with the rest of your 1st week ๐Ÿ˜‰

come anmd join our blog little red,

    “My progressโ€ฆexciting!”

in the early weeks you will see massive losses but dont expect them week in week out 5 2 is all about your behaviour choices

    tell us what LCHF IS

Hi davidrob, I think LCHF is Low Carb High Fat, so I can totally see why LRP is looking for something that isn’t going to insist on them swearing off particular foods for the rest of their natural life. Ugh, life’s too short to live without a few carbs.

Thanks for the welcome Guys and the info – very useful. I have survived my first fast day ๐Ÿ™‚

TracyJ – I’m glad to say that I wasn’t particularly hungry this morning AND I didn’t tuck into breakfast. The thing I like about this diet is that a non-fast day is not too far away, so I don’t feel the need to stuff myself like there’s no tomorrow ๐Ÿ™‚

davidrob – LCHF stands for low carb, high fat. If done correctly it’s very effective and the food you eat is very tasty and satisfying. It should be all fresh produce and no processed foods whatsoever. You need to make sure you’re getting the right amounts of carb, fat and protein though, as it’s easy to make the common mistake of eating too much protein and not enough fat. The diet recommends a moderate protein intake with fat being your main source of fuel (good fats that is). It’s a great diet, but I started to find it too restrictive and expensive. I will still be eating a similar diet e.g fresh meat, fish and veg, but at least on this diet I can waiver a little. If you want more detailed info let me know and I can recommend some some decent sources.

TracyJ – cross post there, Yes, I agree, I like my pasta every so often along with many other high carb foods ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hiya,

Yep totally agree with this: ” a non-fast day is not too far away, so I donโ€™t feel the need to stuff myself like thereโ€™s no tomorrow”

The fastday manra has been posted many times before but not for a while, so here goes: “I can have that tomorrow”. Most of us have no difficulty at all toughing it out for one day and that’s all 5:2 is ONE day, twice a week ๐Ÿ˜‰

There’s also some little reminders of the dangers of non-fastdays though: Once you pop (eat) you may find it near impossible to stop. Once you let that hunger genie out of the bottle (eat something) he really doesn’t want to go back in. Drown those cravings in water and go for a walk is my best advice when you hit these non-fastday hurdles.

Thanks TracyJ, I will remember that. Another thing I’m liking about this diet is the Community. The fact you can link up with those also doing 5:2 and give each other support, tips or general chat. It really does make a huge difference.

Hello LRP, my very first day today, glad you managed to get through it yesterday. Well done!

So far today I’ve consumed 198 kcal and am feeling absolutely fine with plenty kcal still left for later ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi alionaear. Hope it all went well today. It’s now nearly bedtime so not long to go now till a non-fast day. Like yourself, it’s early days for me too. Good luck with it ๐Ÿ™‚
