  • I think of myself as being pretty fit and someone who eats healthily but nevertheless, I have concerns about how much fat I am carrying and therefore I have turned to the 5:2 diet for a solution. My BMI is at the upper end of ideal; I run, swim and strength train on a regular basis; I avoid foods containing saturated fat however, three different methods of calculating body fat suggested that my body fat percentage is around 22%. I couldn’t believe the result of the first ‘calculation’ that is why I tried different methods of calculating body fat. The results from all three methods fell within a range of the aforementioned figure that convinced me I needed to do something about it.

I am currently reading through the ‘Fast Diet’ book and together with my wife, I intend to start the diet w/c 26th May 2014. I have a set of scales that measures body fat (one of the three methods I used) and whilst I appreciate it is not one hundred percent accurate, like it points out in the book, the scales should tell me if my body fat is going in the right direction. So,onward and upward.

    Hi and welcome:

Your body fat is quite low and you should not expect 5:2 to reduce it rapidly. But it will go down over time.

Here are some thoughts for those just starting 5:2: http://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/warnings-to-newbies/

    Good Luck!
