    Hi Richard ,

A very interesting blog, you sound very much like me…gone through every diet going. My friend told me “I have know you for 20 years and you have always been on a diet” I wouldn’t say that but I always keeping an eye on what I am eating. When starting the 5.2 last year I took every diet book I had to a charity shop, 2 carrier bags full…we only need one book now!!!

Last year Hubby and I started this diet, lost two stone each, so easy and so pleased…then hubby needed two new knees which he got in October, so off the excerise and the biscuits and wine crept in. We both have gone up in weight to a bit over a stone each…

So we are now three weeks back on the 5.2, hubby lost 10 lb to date but stayed the same this week, I have lost 6 lb.

We hope to get off our original 2 stone off before May but only a goal to aim for… we both would like a bit more off. We are now 66 years so with arthritis, aches and pains, we walk as we can, but do 2 swimming sessions a week.

Hope the little black dress soon fits with the buttons getting closer!!!

Good luck and I will read your blog
    Cheers

Hi Richard – great blog. Really interesting that you have tried other diets – Dukan and Atkins and now find the IF diet has the same effect but is much simpler to stick to. I turned 50 last year and have found my weight going up steadily over the years from 8st when I was 26.I’ve tried to keep it in check going on various diets to get it back to a weight I feel happy with through the years. This year due to stress eating I’ve gone up to 11st 6 putting on 1st 7lbs in a year. (I have a very sweet tooth).Would like to get back to 9st ideally. Started 5:2 a couple of weeks ago. Did 2 days of back to back fasting eating around 600 cal each day with 40 min of aerobic exercise on day 1. At the end of day 2 was feeling dizzy, looked like a panda (bruised looking eye sockets) – think I over did it a bit. ( I tend to be dehydrated and probably didn’t drink enough water). However I lost 3lb over those two days and my craving for sugar disappeared.Yahoo. It’s taken a week for me to feel back to normal.
This week I did my aerobic session the day before my fast day and had an isotonic sports drink afterwards plus cut down on the sweet carbs. Yesterday was my first fast day of the week, drank lots of water had porridge for breakfast and felt ok in the morning. In the afternoon went shopping and forgot to drink and ended up with a sore throat. M&S ready meal in the evening with extra veg. Felt slightly better, but sore throat still niggling. Early night as feeling knackered. Will split the IF days – next one on Thursday.
This morning (Sun) still have a slightly sore throat.
I recently bought some body composition scales as I wanted to find out my body water %- as I thought it is low. It also measures body fat%, visceral fat rating, Basal metabolic rate, muscle mass and bone mass as well as weight. Now I need to get my % body water up and hopefully this will help with the sore throats and dizziness.
Any way onwards and downwards, (with the weight). Best of luck with your new eating / exercise plan. Look forward to reading more of your blog.

Thanks for the replies. After an easy (ish) fast day on Friday I have reverted to type and been very naughty with my eating habits so far over the weekend. Actually, I have done this on purpose to see what effects this will have on the scales. Will be weighing in on both Mon and Tue to see the differences of my weight post weekend and post fast day. Tuesday will become my regular weigh in day…. Will explain all this and my reasoning along with my updated figures in my next blog entry…planned for Tuesday.

Happy dieting and thanks for reading…. Really keeping me motivated knowing people are following my journey

Richard just thought I would reply having enjoyed your blog so far. Started the 5:2 plan 3 weeks ago myself so will be interesting to see how we progress.

I’m really enjoying reading your blog, Richard. Good on you and all the best for the weigh-in today. I’ll be following your progress with much anticipation.

Following your blog…I do think the little black dress is getting a bit closer together!

Hubby and I are three weeks in so following you side by side, although only doing 5.2 at the moment. Hubby lost 10 pounds I have done 6 pounds.

We did this last year and lost 28 lbs each but due to hubbies two new knees, progress stopped the usual biscuits were eaten and no excerise, the usual weight crept back on. So on a big push now to get what we lost off and maybe a bit more before maintenance… Maybe be about 15 lbs each to loose.

Really enjoying your blog….maybe we might do the 4.3… Does it really move the weight more?….you do a lot more excerise than us, we are 66 years, with lots of aches and pains but do two swimming sessions a week.

There are a few people following you, so we will join you on your journey.
    Good Luck to us all
    Jean

Jean – I believe 4:3 will work better and shift the weight quicker but will also be harder to stick to. As I said in my blog 4:3 allows me a week when too busy to stick to it so coming out at the end of the week completing at least 5:2. Im not regimenting myself. This week for example I am out for dinner with friends Friday night so plan to fast for the day but not limit myself to 600kcals in the evening… I guess that will be 5 1/2 : 2 1/2!?!?!

Thanks for reading and good luck.
