  • AnneMarilyn: I remember when I graduated from high school so many years ago and how I felt. I was both excited to go to college and scared. It would be the first time in my life where I didn’t have to be somewhere, unless I chose to. What a strange feeling! Now we are on the other end of that! It’s hard to believe but again a little scary and exciting! LOL But I found out it is more exciting than scary. Now we make our choices again! You will find it wonderful, too!

Ahhhh! Iโ€™ve just blown my FD๐Ÿ˜Ÿ purely because I forgot !!? I usually fast on a Mon and Thurs but the bank holiday disrupted my routine. Will just have to try again tomorrow.

Hi @apple crisp. If you want to ask the techies here to send your email address to me, Iโ€™d be happy to buddy up. Just be aware that my journey has been a slow one.
@annemarilyn – take it from someone who used to go into work for 7.45am, teach till 3pm, work till 5 or 5.30 pm then bring work home on weekdays, retirement is AMAZING! It wasnโ€™t till about 2-3 months after I left that I actually realised I wasnโ€™t stressed. Hope you enjoy every minute.

I have to admit Iโ€™m so struggling with that sugar dragon. Just ate two biscuits โ˜น๏ธ
Iโ€™m off to have a long bath so I canโ€™t eat!

    Day 8, FD, USA

    Is it really May?!

Hi all, didja miss me? ๐Ÿ˜‰ Back into the 5:2 swing of things now that Iโ€™ve returned from my super indulgent beachside holiday where I ate and drank everything put in front of me including daily breakfasts. I never eat breakfast! The scales suggested a 3kg increase (in 10 days?!?!) but as my clothes donโ€™t feel tighter, Iโ€™m putting it down to fake weight. If I can do a successful B2B2B this week as I plan to, I should be back on track.

Lots of posts to catch up onโ€ฆ

@dingping – I never contemplated the etiquette of the pocket lists; how thoughtful of you to consider it! I donโ€™t add myself to the lists (coz Iโ€™m lazy) but Iโ€™m certainly not offended if anyone adds my name. The more the merrier, and it DOES help to know there are others out there doing the same thing.

For those of you who make bone broth, I thought you might find this interesting/amusing. I saw a print advert for a bone broth powder โ€“ vanilla flavoured!!

Thinking of you and your family Diana123; glad the new clothes purchases brought some sunshine to your life at the moment. Perhaps your brother should log into this forum just to see all the positive thoughts people are sending his way.

Ha ha ha FlourBaby!! Thanks for thinking of me and your ENORMOUS peanut butter spoon! Why oh why is PB so good!!! Perhaps you and I should start a no peanut butter club? (need a far catchier name, of course).

Emma1202. I loved your phrase about your โ€œtastebuds arguing with me in my headโ€. That happens to me too and I find the best way to โ€˜winโ€™ over my tastebuds is to focus on how, 10 minutes after eating whatever it is, my tastebuds will have forgotten the flavour. So I mentally convince my tastebuds that I already ate the desired food 10 minutes ago. Well done for your buffet resistance!

Finally, I thought the following was a good sentiment to inspire people thinking about starting 5:2, and a reminder for others as to why we started: there are 7 days in the week, and not one of them is called โ€œsome dayโ€.

Completed week one, two good fast days then tried hard over the weekend. Weighed myself this morning and am so disappointed to find no loss at all! Third fast day today and trying to stay positive. Anyone else have their expectations dashed?

    Hi Treasure and welcome:

Perhaps your expectations were unrealistic, or based on incomplete information? Factually, just because a person starts eating less does not mean they will immediately and/or consistently lose weight.

This will illustrate a common weight loss pattern for those following 5:2: https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/really-no-weight-loss/

    Just keep going!

    Good Luck!

NFD today. Not much going on. Getting ready for our trip back home. Weโ€™ve been here, FL, for a year. Our grandaughter is graduating from HS. It will be nice to see family.
@TreasureQuilt when I first started it took me two weeks to see a loss. I only weigh one time a week. Hang in there.
    Have a great evening.

    USA Day 8

Failed my FD again! Made the mistake of going to the grocery store. Wound up buying things I shouldn’t have and then proceeding to eat them as soon as I got home! I really need some self control. As of right now, I ma through with eating until tomorrow this time! I’ve got to get myself back under control! ๐Ÿ™

Congrats to all of you who have succeeded today with your goals and to all of you I am with you so you can succeed in your goals!

    Day 8 – UK – unplanned FD โ˜บ๏ธ

Had a lovely day even if the weather has deteriorated somewhat……Lovely walk this morning with my usual group and a great catchup over a pot of tea at the end……so much news to share after a 4 week absence!!

Then met with DD for a late lunch which was when I broke my fast from yesterday…….she is getting a puppy in June – a beagle who is going to be called Archie – he does look very cute and she is so excited and can’t wait to get him home – the breeder sends her daily photos or videos showing her the puppy’s growth and she has met him twice now.

An afternoon spent at home catching up and then went to another evening yoga class and did not feel hungry on my return home at 8pm so made a cup of tea and chatted to OH and as it’s now getting late I have decided to close the kitchen door and complete my day at 678cals (higher my usual FD but I’ll take it) and make it B2B FDs ๐Ÿ˜‡

BTW I restarted my frozen kefir grains over the weekend and got a great tasting batch this morning so I’m back on my daily glass – love the stuff – good to know that the grains survive being frozen twice in about 3 months – each time it took about 2 lots of culture to get a good tasting one

@applecrisp – Welcome to the May 2018 – Monthly Challenge – Can I suggest you read the first post by this month’s host on Page 1 which has some great information. Personally I would recommend you stick to the basic 5:2 WOE for the first month or so and keep a food diary for a couple of weeks – it will open your eyes to exactly how many calories you are consuming – it is amazing how much we underestimate……Work out your TDEE using the tools in Resources above for the weight you want to be not the weight you are currently and eat to that on your NFDs and eat 500cal or 1/4 of TDEE on your FDs. As we all know weight loss is mostly due to reducing the amount we eat and very little to do with exercise but If you do no exercise than try some short walks – getting some fresh air and some exercise does great things for your mental wellbeing. We are a friendly group with no judgement and plenty of support and advice given willingly – Ask questions and someone will answer – good luck with your journey this time round
@mjrbcd44 – hang tight and we will pull you back on that wagon ๐Ÿค—
@flourbaby – what would we all do if that RESET button wore out – it is an essential tool in this WOL ๐Ÿ˜‡
@shinything – work trousers felt much looser – what a lovely feeling ๐Ÿ’ƒ
@penz – Welcome back sounds like you had a fab holiday – if your clothes fit and you feel good ignore that Cruella Scales and focus on your FD
@treasure-quilt – just stay focused and you should see a downward trend soon
@ccco – remember that F word does not exist – a bad day does not a bad week make – positive vibes coming your way

I have another yoga class tomorrow morning (I know I know………3 classes in 3 days but I am catching up from my holidays!!!) so planning on continuing fasting until after the class – going for a coffee with a couple of friends from the class for a post holiday catchup and will have a light brunch as I have an afternoon of volunteering after and then going to see “Beast” with my film group in the evening so another busy day ahead…..

I am adding myself to the Pocket list even it is the end of my day just to keep me accountable as TOGETHER WE ARE STRONGER

USA Day 8 Don’t Know what to call today!!

Thank you, AT! I really needed to hear that today! I’ve gotten so frustrated with myself and so out of control! It must be stress eating. When I was younger and stressed, I would go out for a run. I can’t run anymore. (Got too old and decrepit!!) I am religious with my yoga and personal training. Nothing gets in the way of that, it seems! Well, I am into my 24 hour fast and will finish that IF IT’S THE LAST THING I DO! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Have a great evening everyone!

Day 9 country West Australia FD
    Day 8 NFD
Day 7 FD – morphed into a TOOCNFD ( totally out of control NFD!!). It had been a good FD until 5 pm when I went to get a coffee at a little cafe. They’d cleaned the coffee machine and didn’t have a lot left to offer.
I opened my mouth whilst contemplating my options – and a large, warm, delicious home made sausage roll leapt right in.
This took me so much by surprise that I went home and ate everything in sight!!
    Reset today!
@penz, like the quote about ‘ some day’.
@treasure Quilt, last year I had been doing really well with 5:2 and lost weight etc then hit a great BIG road block and sat on a ‘ no weight loss’ plateau for months!! Set me back a bit but it is good to think about all the other benefits of 5:2 apart from simply weight loss.
Your body will thank you for just eating more healthily.๐Ÿ˜

    Day 9 – Japan – NFD

Rainy, windy and cold weather is putting a damper on my workouts!

    second post
    Oh my!
Back to counting calories ( for a little while ) , seriously this time, and I’d forgotten how quickly they add up.
3 flat white coffees ( which I love ) and that is 225 calories down already – and the rest of the day to go.
Little wonder that the weight loss has been less than hoped for recently. Will have to revert to weak black tea…..๐Ÿ˜…

    Day 9…NSW…Australia…NFD
    3.30pm Wednesday over here
    Hi everyone
    Just checking in!
    Bye for now!

    Day 9, Cornwall UK, NFD

This weight loss thing is interesting. I have been on the large side most of my life. Now I’ve lost 27kgs people in general are much friendlier towards me – especially strangers. Maybe I am more approachable but I don’t think thats the whole story. Us humans are very quick to judge people on appearance. And I’m still overweight. I guess I’ve joined the ‘bit overweight’ club that most adults are in, and am now more acceptable. Feels odd as I am the same person inside!

I’ve been doing 5:2 for over 10 months now so got into a routine. The fast days are going really well at the moment. The non fast days are tricky as I want to eat more than i should. I’m trying to avoid the ‘feast-and-fast’ approach, but its not easy!

    Day 9 – Ireland ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช – FD
    2nd B2B2B

I was so tired yesterday due to restless night due to darn neighbourhood dog barking all night. Don’t know whose dog it was but ALL NIGHT long until 5am, thank you very much as that’s my time to get up ๐Ÿ˜ก So I struggled on my FD with hunger and tiredness. Made it through work no problem (only micro herbs and salads to snaffle there ๐Ÿ˜„), so when I got home I knew I had to be mindful.

I popped a free range chicken into the oven, then straight to the garden to do some essential clearing up, planting etc. By dinner time I was not so hungry anymore, the garden really invigorated me. Did have a dessert of home grown rhubarb, my home made yoghurt, and lots of mixed nuts, and in bed at 9.30 with magnesium oil sprayed on my feet.

Slept so well, and lost weight so I am at pre-weekend reading. Yay. Two more FD’s to go, I hope I can get to a new low weight on this 5:2 journey, would love to see 128lbs tomorrow ๐Ÿ‘

Currently I have the chicken carcass cooking away for chicken bone broth.
@penz Urgh, vanilla flavoured chicken bone broth???? ๐Ÿ˜–
@ccco no such word as fail …..it’s a blip, keep on keeping on …”.by the way, I loved your comparison between leaving high school and retirement. Enjoy it all. You deserve it
@annemarilyn and not long to go for yours. I often feel like you are my 5:2 buddy as you trying an LFD for the first time inspired me to try, you have been to a lot of places in Spain that I have been to, you were in Peru this year too, and hey, you are also a biker chick ๐Ÿ So the very best of luck in your retirement. Enjoy every moment.
@cornish-jane maybe you have also got more confident now that you have lost 27kg and this excudes from you and makes people want to be nice to you? Super achievement already, we’ll done. Oh, I meant to say I loved that you were selling your own plants at a local farmers market over the weekend. Glad it went well. It sounds so idyllic, in the sunshine in Cornwall selling your own home grown wares โ˜บ๏ธ

Right, best off to work. Don’t think a Pocket List has been started yet for Day 9, so here goes

Day 9 – Pocket List – Together we are Stonger
    @daffodil2010 2nd B2B2B
    @lilymartin

    Day 9, Emden Germany, NFD

had a good FD yesterday ~ 325 cal. Tonight we’re having home made pizza, loaded with vegetables.

@annemarilyn as most of us retirees (is this a word?) here, I didn’t know what to expect from retirement. I’m so glad the pressure is off, I can choose what to do with my time, if I want to go out, I can, if I decide to stay at home and read all day, I can too. It’s so nice to not hear “must do” anymore. You will enjoy it, there is so much to explore.

@mychoice7 I like to start the pocket list when fasting, otherwise it’s possible I change my mind doing it. Having someone to fast with me is helpful.

    Have a good day everyone!

    Day 8 โ€“ Dubai โ€“ FD#12
    Day 9 โ€“ Dubai – NFD

Just checking in, busy time of year. So good to hear positive stories of those who have retired early, thank you all. That might be me in September!

    โ€œThree months from now, youโ€™ll thank yourself.โ€

    Day 9 – UK – Reading – CD

Not a great FD yesterday. I was tired after a lot of driving on Monday, and its so hard to be good when tired. Entertaining tonight, so that’s not going to make it any easier. Will just go for doing the best I can. I love reading everyone’s posts – just have so little time to reply. Onwards and downwards.

    Day 9 โ€“ Iceland โ€“ CD

The โ€œholiday-feelingโ€ got me yesterdayโ€ฆ not only went way above TDEE but had lots of bad-quality calories too, might have undone the B2B2B slightly๐Ÿ™ˆ Didnโ€™t manage to step on the scales this morning (maybe better anyway) but pushing the reset button now and aiming for a mindful CD today๐Ÿ˜‡

@michelinme โ€“ thank you! I believe it is maybe the third time of B2B2B, it is much easier than expected and it does speed things up!
@treasure-quilt โ€“ my experience is that the weight loss is often delayed 1-2 days, it happens all the time that after a FD I am the same weight as before, but after the following NFD, I am suddenly half a kilo lighter!
@cornish-jane โ€“ 27kgs โ€“ what an achievement! I am on my way there hopefully, very thankful to have you as a role model! Regarding the appearance โ€“ I had a healthy BMI for years until I got sick and my weight almost doubledโ€ฆ after which I seemed to encounter a lot more rude people than before. A small part of it can very well be that I wasnโ€™t always feeling as great as before, but I wasnโ€™t less polite or in other ways a different personโ€ฆ I do not believe that can be the whole explanation๐Ÿ™

Day 9, Surrey (UK), NFD, about to go off to gym. Weight 163lb
Day 8, NFD, Fast Fitness: run in woods
Day 7, FD, no exercise but on my feet all day
Day 6, NFD, no ‘hard’ exercise but lots of walking
Day 5, NFD, no exercise but active day

Wow, I’ve met my pre-holiday target…BMI of 25! YAY! The tricky bit will be keeping it there whilst I’m away. The plan is to switch to 6:1 for the duration of the holiday. There are a couple of travelling days built in to the schedule, and those will be ideal for fasting.

Sorry to say, I’ve not been as disciplined with the exercise. Life getting in the way and all that…but I know that is no excuse, really. Still, lots of energetic walking planned for the holiday!

I won’t be updating now until I get back towards the end of the month, so I shall sign off for now and wish you all continued perseverance…from which success will come! ‘See’ you all very soon, and remember to keep on keeping on!

Day 9, London, UK, FD (2nd of B2B2B)

Hayfever is doing a number on me today, I love this weather, but the puffy eyes and continuous sneezing do NOTHING for me!!!!

Another fantastic sleep last night, I truly hadnโ€™t realised that using a few spritzes of MO as a deodorant wasnโ€™t enough, my yoga teacher says combining MO with the inversion I do (lying in bed, legs in the air, spray soles and tops of feet, rub feet together or use free hand to rub MO up to calf level) also helps with sleep, you can do something similar (legs against the wall, deep breathing) without the oil to aid sleep, Iโ€™m sure Google will help!!

@penz, 3kg in 10 days is nothing, I did the same in a weeks All inclusive in Portugal in March โ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆ.. Breakfast was just an indulgent treat and AI, in my book means get your moneysโ€™ worthโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆ.. (I think I ate & drank 75% of the time when I wasnโ€™t even hungry!!!) sad but true!!!! Unfortunately I canโ€™t join your no PB club โ€ฆโ€ฆ. Iโ€™m already swerving the wine, I wouldnโ€™t survive if someone took my PB away too!!!!!

@ccco, not that Iโ€™m great at following my own advice(!!), but sometimes itโ€™s good to remember that that biscuit, chocolate, pizza, cake or whatever will still be there when you reach your goal. Just โ€˜cause you stopped indulging does NOT mean the crisps/chips factory will shut down!!!!!!!

Ok, panic over โ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆ the reset button canโ€™t wear out, itโ€™s made of that everlasting stuff, whatโ€™s it called??? Faith & Hope!!!!!!!!

    Day 9 UK FD

A pretty good CD yesterday – stayed under TDEE even tho after supper I simply had to have a chocolate mug cake. Thank goodness for good store cupboards – I made a teeny one with coconut flour, cacao & grated lime & served with ff greek yogurt and frozen blueberries – less than 350 calories & Yum.

Great sleep after 4th night of MO, didn’t stir at all from falling fast asleep until the alarm, woke in exactly the same position just like a drugged whale! Anxiety is still turned down so low that it’s barely bubbling.

Thanks @borealis I’m going to try today an extra FD and aim for a B2B – done once before unplanned and it was fine, the second day was much easier than the first. I’ve got plenty of salad to eat up, with carrot & ginger soup in the freezer if I get cold. And a hospital appt all afternoon which should take my mind off food – ulp!

Hope you all have a good day.

Day 9 a wet Belfast FD
70 lengths of the pool and 2 1/2 miles done with the dog so I can safely sit down and finish my book on this horrible day.

@penz – Sounds like youโ€™ve still got a post holiday high. Glad you had a good time. Vanilla bone broth… ugh! love your โ€˜some dayโ€™ quote
@at – good to see you back in fine form. Iโ€™ve ditched the water kefir for Bulgarian milk kefir. I donโ€™t like the taste of the kefir from the grains, but the Bulgarian one is delicious. More like yoghurt.
Interesting observation @cornish -Jane. There was an article In the Sunday paper about people who had been through a sex change and the difference in the way people treated them. Apparently the men who had changed to a woman couldnโ€™t believe how they were professionally sidelined and their work dismissed. How fickle people are. Your 27kg loss is an inspiration.
@fatfingers – well done on achieving your goal. Have you considered doing 16:8 daily? We were in Australia for 9 weeks and I managed to come home the same weight. Hope you enjoy every moment.

    Day 9, USA, CD

Good morning everyone! Hooray to all of us for being here! ๐Ÿ™‚ Yesterday wasn’t really a FD and it wasn’t really a CD, it was just a low calorie day. I wasn’t hungry so I just rolled with it. About half of those calories are due to a Grande Starbucks Breve Flat White, which really hit the spot. ๐Ÿ™‚ Another drop on the scale gives me 6.5 pounds down for May. It’s probably just incidental and unrelated, but I started taking Acytl L-Carnitine and L-Carnitine after reading about positive effects on aging and the brain. The jury is out on whether it helps with fat loss. Older studies say no, newer studies say yes.

@cornish-jane, I can completely relate. Being significantly overweight is like being invisible. It’s a strange feeling after being reasonably attractive in my youth to walk about completely unnoticed, like I’m wearing Harry Potter’s invisibility cloak. ๐Ÿ™‚ Sometimes I wonder if that’s why I gained so much, because it gave me some space.

NFD today. Final day to finish packing. It will be interesting how I do tomorrow for my FD as Iโ€™ll be flying. My goals are to stay on my same pattern while Iโ€™m gone. Wish me luck.
    Everyone have a great day.

    USA Day 9 FD

Thank you all for your kind support! I messed up but now I am in my 17th hour of a water fast and am determined ! I will get back on that wagon! If 24 hours goes well, it will turn into a 48 hour water fast, my first!

I am watching everyone who is traveling while doing this WOL. I haven’t travelled yet but will soon. I am looking to see how everyone handles this!

I have already done my personal training and am now heading out to play with my golf group. ๐Ÿ™‚

OnlyHermes: Congrats on that 6.5 lb. May weight loss! Wonderful! I may still be struggling but I hope to join you there! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Day 9, NFD, USA

2nd day of B2B2B. Yesterday went well, wasn’t hungry at all until I got home and thought of FlourBaby, and into the peanut butter jar I dipped!! (Albeit with a small teaspoon – that’s ok, isn’t it!)

Wow, @CornishJane, great to lose so much. And interesting your thoughts about how people are now ‘seeing’ you. I also feel invisible at times, @onlyhermes, but had put that down to my age, not my weight. If/when I get to a fabulous size, even with my crow’s feet and grey hairs, I wonder if I’ll be noticed again? Here’s hoping! ๐Ÿ™‚

Day 9 NFD North Canton OH

Quick post as I have a full day ahead. Missed you @penz.

I will catch up later cheerio all!!!!!!!

    Day 9. WI, USA

Yesterday’s FD was good. My increased appreciation for food, and my desire to slow down and enjoy the small food I am allowed to eat on a FD seems like such a useful and powerful part of this WOL.

Like many people, I always seem to be in a rush. I am less grateful than I should be, and I take many things for granted. Last night, as I was cutting up my plate of raw veggies into small bites, talking with my family, and eating slowly so that I could make it last, I realized that this WOL is a gift in more ways than one.

    Day 9 – North Carolina – NFD

Good morning everyone! Just checking in!
Will be back later to catch up on everyone’s posts.
    Have a great day!

Day 9 USA (UT – last day here) NFD

Checking in here today, fly home to Illinois tomorrow so today is my last day with DD and 2 GDโ€™s. Water aerobics class this morning that really kicks my butt! I will do my best to keep up with the class.

    Onward and downward.

    Day 9 UK NFD

Another successful fast day yesterday & today I am back on track with my exercise. I’ve set myself a new exercise challenge & it has kick started my motivation. ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ’ช

Remember folks you are all beautiful and perfect and each and every one of us matter. Unfortunately, we can not change other people’s behaviour but we are in control of how we let them affect us. So I say continue with this WOL, enjoy the health benefits and keep our heads held high. ๐Ÿ˜

Sorry for the mini essay but it makes me sad to see and hear people put themselves down. It also made me realise I need to be kinder to myself.

    Day 9, UK, NFD

Its been a good day and almost turned into a FD due to my busy schedule in my garden ๐Ÿ˜‚ . I deliberately didn’t want to do a FD today since my regular FD is tomorrow, and that’s more than enough since this WOL is definitely working, my clothes feel looser ๐Ÿ’ƒ .
As for my bird feeder … I think its slowly getting noticed by birds, I caught a glimpse of a little robin having a nibble and just now a common wood pigeon had a nice long lunch, almost finished all the food there ๐Ÿ˜€ . Its a joy watching them ๐Ÿ˜ .

@treasure-quilt scales not budging in spite of fasting and doing things right happened to just about everyone, don’t despair. In fact its quite normal, just keep going and you will see the results ๐Ÿ™‚

@ccco could it be that you are trying too hard? Maybe back to basic 5:2 would help? Remember, this is supposed to be not a diet but WOL, therefore sustainable :), and it works.

@cornish-jane I agree with @daffodil2010 that it might be that you are more confident now and those vibes come from you, some people are judgemental about the appearance but many are not. I think its more about our own attitude that we sometimes don’t even realise, so remember to be kind to yourself ๐Ÿ™‚ and I too loved that you were selling your own plants at a local farmers market, tat is wonderful ๐Ÿ™‚

    @fatfingers and @kaywesterman have a lovely holiday ๐Ÿค—

Well said @edzeko that this WOL is a gift in more ways than one, couldn’t agree more ๐Ÿ™‚

Have a great day everyone โค

Day 9 Stevensville Maryland USA CNFD

Very busy here at work today. Just wanted to pop on and read the wonderful post.

I am forever grateful to have found this WOL. Have a great Wednesday everyone.

Day 9 – SW WA USA – NFD

Yesterday’s FD turned out about 800 cal or so. Still down a tad this morning. Trending in the right direction. Will plan on a mindful NFD today.

@cornish-jane – yes, people’s perspective & our own is very interesting. When I walk by a store window for example, I glance to see if I “look fat” or “normal” or “close to normal”… Also, I notice my posture and my walk.. Sometimes when I see others who are heavy, I find myself telling myself “that’s where I’m heading if I don’t take charge”. I know I feel better about myself as I get more in the “normal” area. Today, for example, my outfit looked slimming in the mirror so it’s a “normal” feeling day. I personally try to look people in the eye and nod or greet as I go by, no matter who they are, so they know I “see” them. I think most of us like to be seen. As @ccco mentioned and others, add in getting older & that’s another factor for “not being seen”. You’ve probably heard the joke about hoping you don’t need the lifeguard when you’re an older woman, because you may not be seen. Not sure how to word it so it sounds like a joke.

@snolflake56 – yes, “retirees” is definitely a word. Guess I’ll be joining that group shortly.

@fatfiners – congrats on pre-holiday goal met. Enjoy your holiday!

    @onlyhermes – 6.5 lbs already in May! Woo-hoo!

@daffodil2010 – glad I’m your 5:2 buddy. Thanks for the review of somethings done in life. I’m thinking of “retiring” from full-time teaching as the Next Chapter. I do plan to work part-time for a while with more time for further adventures. Where shall we explore next?

    Together we are stronger!

    Day 9, Gozo, Malta, cd

Today was a cd. I spent the day babysitting and ended by giving a bath to my grandson to help my daughter whoโ€™s two months pregnant with her second child.

I tried not to nibble and partially succeeded.

Good night ๐ŸŒ™๐Ÿ˜ด everyone. Onwards and downwards

    Day 10…NSW Australia…FD
    6.50am Thursday

    Hi everyone

Wonderful, sunny day in this part of the world – though getting quite cool at night as we head into Winter! Unlike most of you with Summer on the horizon.

Enjoying reading all your wonderful posts – inspirational, informative, supportive: keeps my spirits on a high. Thank you all!

Enjoy whatever you are getting up to and bye for now!

    Day 9……Florida….NFD

I thought Iโ€™d pop round and say Hi to everyone. Arrive home from my vacation this afternoon. As of now, Iโ€™m preparing to get back to life. Time away was fantastic but Matilda has run amok to long and my body is in sure pain from the lack of supervision, I failed to provide for her.

Tomorrow starts a new day….. actually Iโ€™m going to say tonight as I will be starting my 16 hour fast at 8pm tonight.

On the plane ride home, I seriously thought about what efforts, Iโ€™m going to do in order to regain control….. After much thought….. It seems as if, I will be going old school and do the original 5:2 program……

I will give you all my official starting weight in the am. I know Iโ€™m up quite a bit from my April 1st weight of 127lbs….. but if I could guess Iโ€™m up 5lbs or so but my body shape has really taken the biggest hit. Iโ€™m no longer getting rid of fat but rather holding onto it like a day old sponge in need of a good tossing.

    Well, Iโ€™m off now…..

See you all in the am!

Day 10 country west Australia CD
yesterday’s FD went really well. I managed to keep to 500 calories ( just). Even passed up on the whole piece of dark choc my DH offered and had just the tiniest piece about the size of my fingernail!!
Seeing the scales heading south – YEE HA!!- has really spurred me on.
I find that for my success with this WOL I really do need to keep posting daily ( accountability); read others’ posts – inspirational and I can so relate to others’ experiences both ‘ good’ and ‘ bad’ – and it keeps me much more focussed.
Sadly I also need to crunch the numbers on MFP to see how my calories are going.
I don’t know about anyone else but when I am guessing how much I am eating I am WAY out of whack.
When I first started this WOL and it worked really well, I found the FDs easier but was able to control NFDs because I plugged in the numbers and it kept me on track.
Gradually over the past year I have stopped counting calories because I dislike doing it and I thought I had a handle on portion sizes etc.
However since really crunching figures for every morsel …….. the old saying about fooling yourself some of the time comes to mind.
I don’t plan to do it long term but have committed to count calories for May and see how I go.
@bert , welcome back old friend. Good to hear from you.
@at, @penz, @ Flourbaby and all the other ‘old friends I see’, it sort of seems like I have returned home!!!!
And this time I plan to stay around for the duration!
    Have a good day all.๐Ÿค—

    Day 10 – Japan – NFD 82.4kg

Today is my Father’s 86th birthday. He is betting the odds since he lives in the US. He is quite slim but recently was complaining that he has to now wear 32″ jeans. That is the size I’ve gotten down too. He has had a problem with high cholesterol for decades. However he has managed to age into his range. It is normal for people over 80 to have higher total cholesterol. He lives out on our family farm and isn’t ready to go to a retirement home. One of my sisters is pushing on him to go to move into a retirement home. He told me that he hates doing daily chores but always feels good when he is done with them and that is why he likes it out there. Personally I agree with him.

It is good to hear from Bert1802 too!

    Day 10 North Wales FD

    Starting the pocket list
    @molij
Have a good day everyone ๐Ÿ’ช

    Day 10, Cornwall UK. FD

Yes to all your interesting comments on how people react to you as you gain and lose weight. @borealis and @onlyhermes you have very similar experiences to me. The gaining weight to protect yourself is particularly true especially for children who gain weight. And not relying on others too much for your self confidence.

@daffodil2010 – my microgreens are nearly ready to eat! I may add a little seaweed fertilizer to keep them going to 4-leaf stage. I think i need a mini production line as I eat a lot of greens!

@flourbaby – the magnesium oil is helping a little with sleep so will keep going. My feet did not sting at all but they are tough from beach walking! I’m trying it as a deodorant – the skin tingles – and I asked my OH to tell me if I smell but no problem so far! It will be great if I can ditch my chemical cocktail / normal deodorant.

Day 10 – Ireland ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช – FD but could change this evening into NFD ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Good FD yesterday slightly over 500 calories. Sometimes I count calories and sometimes I guess, but as @lilymartin rightly said, when you guesstimate it’s often way over. I guess that’s true for me. It’s boring counting calories though..Ho hum.

Anyway, down another quarter pound. Still have not seen 128lbs yet. I have been going back over my notes and it seems that the goal weight I aim for each month or so, when I get to it, wahoo great excitement, and then I plateau on that weight for at least 4-6 weeks while I eagerly try for the next goal weight. It’s sure baby steps. Right now all I see is 129-130 with ultimate goal 125.

But, let’s get things in perspective here – I am delighted to be maintaining at 130ish rather than the 170 I started off with โ˜บ๏ธ Not long to go now.

Today is supposed to be my 3rd FD of a B2B2B…however, DH is off today and for the next 4 days (he works a 2-12 midnight shift as an engineer at Dublin airport) so we don’t get to see each other awake much during the week. He has suggested a “Date
Night” tonight and I am tempted. I am out with my girlfriends tomorrow and then DH’s son will be moving in with us full time over the weekend.
    Hmmmm……๐Ÿค”

I will definitely fast until this evening with nowt but a chicken bone broth for lunch and lots of liquids. Then we’ll see. ๐Ÿ˜‰

@dykask Happy 86th birthday to your Dad and fantastic that he can get around and do chores. I was talking to my 82 year old Dad last night and he had to make the big decision to back out of all his lawn bowls teams and competitions. His knee and his right hand are too sore and he is the oldest man on the club bowling team! It’s sad for him, especially as last year he was on a number of winning teams. I say it’s great to see the elderly getting out and about and doing their thing. Long may it last.

I will stick my name on the pocket list but may fall off ๐Ÿค“๐Ÿค“

    Day 10 – UK – Reading – FD

Morning all! You made me laugh @daffodil “I will stick my name on the pocket list but may fall off”. Yup, I know that feeling. It’s supposed to be a FD today, but OH’s son stayed over and I’ve already had porridge for breakfast. So set up all wrong today. But let’s see. Sending positive thoughts to everyone on the pocket list. Onwards and downwards.

    Day 10. Belfast CD
DH is off today so we will have a day in the garden trying to repair the holes that puppy has dug up.
Sorry @ccco I was so busy yesterday I only saw your request this morning. You were there in spirit!
@onlyhermes – congratulations for your weight loss
@sarahbob I totally agree. Kindness begins at home
Welcome back @ Bert1802 youโ€™ll be back on track in no time Iโ€™m sure
I too am resurrecting MFP @lilymartin. Hopefully recording the cals will stop me grazing
Happy Birthday to your dad @dykask. Keeping active is the key to success for sure.
@Daffodil2010i would go for the date night. Together time is so important.

Back to slaying that sugar dragon and calorie counting again. As many have said, we often underestimate what we eat. Aiming for a mindful day

Have a good day everyone. Keep your eyes on the prize

    Day 10, Cornwall UK, FD

    2nd post

I meant to say that a small patch of eczema on my hands has cleared up after using Magnesium Oil – I never thought to use it on my hands, but my hands get covered when using it on my feet and armpits! It may be a co-incidence, but a happy one!

@debster251 – good luck with your dragons. Stay busy in the garden!

    Packet list for today
