  • Day 2 – UK – FD B2B Day 2

I am super motivated about this WOL, although it is only day 2 on the Forum… I need advice, is it silly to cram in as many fast days as possible this week knowing that I won’t be able to do any next week as I have visitors and it will be like a holiday. I am finding the fast days relatively easy, as I am so motivated, but I am worried that it will make me give up after a couple of weeks which is what usually happens.

Appreciate any advice from any other reformed serial yoyo dieters out there. Thank you

    Day 2 USA-WA NFD

Day 2: Gloucestershire, UK: 16/8 day (strictly speaking a FD turned NFD!)

@yolina: I say, lucky you…do it while you can. Success breeds success.

    Day 2-US FD

Yesterday turned into a NFD as I caught up with a friend and indulged

Day 2 FD St. Louis USA
2d day of b2b. Home from work today with chest cod and roads flooded due to heavy rains which seem to have stopped but waiting for rivers to crest. Lovely to see the sunshine today though.

@schatxi. Such good news to hear you can go forward with your thesis. I’ve done that a couple of times and it’s eaves as if it won’t end, kind of like a cold. However I hope I’m over my cold, a bit sooner than that. All my best to you.

@happymargo I had the same issues with my DH as well, when I first started he wasn’t on board because he didn’t want to eat alone. But when he saw the results, just like your DH he decided to join up; and did 3 FD his first week last week)!
I over celebrated meeting my goal last week and the scale wasn’t kind, when I told him he said “take heart, we can fast together tomorrow”. I was just blown away! words can’t describe what it means to have the support of your SO when you are doing something like this. My best to you.

Day 2 Florida USA FD For the newcomers, I started the 5/2 as a WOL in 2013 and reached my ideal weight for the first time in my adult life, and in only 4 months. I maintained it easily for 9 months then let stress throw me off course. I deeply regret that. I’m now halfway back to my goal. It helps to be part of a worldwide group. It’s not coming off as easily this time (I’m older and more sedentary from MS) but I am losing steadily. Today I had fruit and cereal with almond milk, tonight I’ll have a bowl of homemade split pea soup and a salad of mixed greens. I’ll have only tea and water in between. Good luck to all the May Challenge Fasters!

    Day2 – UK – NFD

Yesterday’s FD went well but note to self, if you want to up the water consumption daily, you need to drink it earlier in the day. 😀. Let’s just say I had a restless night! So today I’ve had my 2.5 litres already, hoping for a more peaceful night. Tomorrow will be a FD.

    Day 2 – MT USA – NFD
    Very successful fast day yesterday!

    Day 2 – USA – NFD

Please add me to the merry May fasters from around the globe.

    UK
    Day 1 = FD
    Day 2 = FD

My starting weight is 78.6kg. Looking for a 4kg loss so kicking off May with my first 3 day fast, which may end up being a bit longer if I feel OK. Last ate at 9pm last Sunday. And so far so good.

    Happy fasting, fasters.

Day 2 Pacific Northwest NFD …
    Down 1# from yesterday’s FAST

Seriously thinking about doing a b2b2b F but will be traveling North with my husband. Eating on the road … not easy.

Will just watch calories, drink water (make him stop at rest-stops more often).

    Stay strong PEEPS!

    Day 2 UK NFD

Eating sensibly and have gotten my 10,000 steps in

Day 2 Maine NFD, but very controlled

Good morning all from another rainy, foggy day in Maine – 3rd week in row that my days off are gloomy! No complaints – Mother Nature has been especially cruel this week in sections of the US – I can deal with grey.

Yesterday was a confusing NFDwith me. Knew we were invited to dear neighbors for roast chicken dinner, so fasted at work…until just as I was leaving – I popped 2 jelly beans in my mouth. Well, that sugar started an avalanche of hunger dragons! Very mindful during dinner – including a small piece of lemon meringue pie, but no way was I satisfied! At home, Ate a dark chocolate bar – did nothing to calm the dragon – finally, 2 baskets of air popped popcorn w/melted butter &SALT & I was finally satisfied!! Maybe the 2 glasses of wine at dinner contributed to the cravings….but I swear it started w/the sugar in the jelly beans! Lesson learned, I hope. I know I can do better!

@songbirdme – happiest of birthdays & another happy, healthy year!

@bert1802 – watching fires in Fl, relieved you’re safe & it’s raining. Good luck on your trip to your Mom’s. So reminiscent of the last minute trips I neede to take caring for my Mom in Fl. I know your family history is complicated – hoping it’ll be relatively stress free for you.

@schatzii – excellent news! Good luck!

Make it a great & productive day all!

Day 2, Surrey, FD. Newbie 29 years old with two kids. Been putting on wait slowly for past 8 years since I got married. Struggled to find motivation but feel that now is my time and this is the best WOL for me having tried several other diets which helped me lose weight but then put it back on and more. 16 stone now. Goal to lose as much as possible. Good luck everyone

Day 2, USA, Missouri Ozarks, FD

Current weight 143.2, below goal weight of 145.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SongBirdMe – may your year be filled with beautiful music !

Lovely day here, looks like we have a break in the rain albeit a short one. Lots of yards will need a mowing, that’s for sure. Everything is SOOO green.

Gotta go do some reading, wishing you all the very, very best. Life is so precious – a local young man (20) was killed in a car accident last night.
Embrace today – and let us never forget to be kind. The last words we say to someone may be the last words they hear.

    Day 2. Wisconsin, USA. NFD

So many inspiring, interesting and funny posts to read. I wish I could read them all.

Yesterday was a decent FD, but I can do better. I ate a bit more than 500 calories at the end of the day. And, I still have to get the cream out of my coffee in the morning. This feels impossible, but I’ve done it before, and can do it again. Thursday will be better.

My family ganged up on me last night. They’re actually very nice people, but my daughter said she’s a bit sick of eating sticks and leaves for every meal, when all her friends get to enjoy things like pizza and hamburgers for dinner. 🙂 Even my husband joined in, so I figured they must have a point. My husband is generally my loyal supporter.

I must be going overboard. I’ve always been a nutrition junkie, but my family has never complained before. My family members are strong, lean and healthy. They have no weight loss goals.

I guess I need to buy a few groceries, and make a few meals that have broader appeal. I might even throw a pack of cookies or ice cream in the cart. I firmly believe every BODY is different. There is no one way of eating that everyone should do. Although, you’d have a hard time convincing me that 100 percent of the populations would not benefit from only eating real food.

We all are responsible for making our own choices. My children are older teens, and I also have a 20-year-old. I know I have laid the ground work, and I’m not interested in micro-managing any of their decisions at this point in our lives. So, message received.

*I guess I am also using this challenge as a diary for my thoughts. 🙂

    Day 2 – SW WA USA – FD 800

@songbirdme – Happy Happy Birthday! Have a wonderful day!

@cmgoa – FYI the day we post always matching what’s on the calenda; so we’re all on Day 2 today. If this is your 1st day on 5:2, the host may note that on the spreadsheet. About fasting – I too was unsure at the beginning, but the more I watched Dr. Mosely & Dr. Jason Fung on Youtube videos & read the books, I became convinced.

    Day 2 – Switzerland – NFD

Happy to report that yesterday’s FD went fine – must be thanks to the good vibes from all the other pocketeers around the world, so thank you all!

I changed my FD meal around a bit, made a low-cheese version of cauliflower cheese which tasted utterly delicious and also spiralised some courgettes (zucchini) to go with it. It was my first venture into spiralising, and I was impressed by how quick and easy it was, and how pleasant the result, with 1tbsp olive oil, garlic, salt and pepper. Not sure it was anything like pasta, but quite the nicest way of serving courgette that I’ve found so far.

Dinner tonight included kale, so I’m doing well on Fad-Food-Bingo. Now where did i put my chia seeds…

Haven’t had a chance to read this thread yet so apologies if I’ve missed anything. Have a good evening folks!

Day 2 – West Midlands, UK – NFD

Day 1 fasting went well yesterday but no kitchen scales so guesstimated; bought some today with a Soup Maker – Any good receipes anyone ?

Off to a Step class at 7

Feeling fine, motivated and happy that I have took this step

    Good luck to all

Day 2 Chicago, Illinois USA – NFD

    Day 2 – Toronto – NFD

Had a good FD yesterday – had a cup of coffee with cream and one sugar (I drink my coffee slowly and throughout my workday with lots of visits to the microwave for reheating lol!), a light lunch of 1/2 a cup of aloo gobi (homemade, north indian cauliflower and potato dish) with a grilled chicken drumstick and a dinner of a 2-egg omelette with half a tbsp avo oil, lots of tomatoes, onions and a green chilly with a slice of 50-cal whole wheat toast and 1/3 tbsp butter. If these measurements sound insane, it’s because I log very precisely into MFP on my FDs as if I was guesstimating calories I’d go over for sure. Clocked in at 508 calories and felt satiated.

@edzeko why do you want to work on removing the cream from your coffee? is it to save calories? I have a coffee with a splash of cream on my FDs (and sometimes even a packet of sugar!) and find it works for me. Just curious.

    Day 2 Oman NFD

    Can I join…..sorry…thought I’d signed up already!

    Day 1 was FD

    Day 2 | Alaska | NFD

So yesterday was my first day on the 5:2 and my first fast day. It went really well. I skipped my coffee in the morning because I couldn’t bear it without cream and I drank water and green tea all day. The morning was a bit miserable as I am a breakfast eater but I had an apple at 11 and from there the fast was totally doable.

I went to my boot camp class at the gym last night which is HIIT with 35 second intervals of different cardio and strength exercises for an hour. I did pretty well.

Was very impressed to be 3.6 pounds down today, even if it is just water weight and also being my first day after a indulgent weekend, I know it will most likely creep up during my NFD, it still felt good to see the results of my efforts.

There’s so many acronyms being thrown around – Ive figured out many but what is TDEE?

Good luck to all the fasters.

    2–MA, USA, FD
Day 2 of fasting this month. Trying for 4 days this week, but haven’t decided exactly which days yet. Adding myself to the list of those fasting.

    Day 2 – UK – NFD

After a successful FD yesterday, today I am nothing but hungry. Have logged everything into MFP so am eating plenty but the tummy is rumbling. Am managing to ignore it. Just. For those of you who have B2B FDs, I don’t know how you do it.

@happymargo – my OH is so on board he only buys pasties and cakes to eat in front of me that he knows I don’t like!

    @allsmiles

Thanks for asking. There are two reasons I would like to stop putting cream in my coffee on my FD:

    1. I am always listening to “experts”. Some say a bit of cream will NOT negate fasting benefits, some say it will. I don’t know who is right.

    2. I have tried putting a couple of teaspoons of cream in, and that invariable leads to two more, the next day a 1/4 cup, and the next a cup of cream, with 1/4 cup of coffee. Kidding. Sort of. I love cream. 🙂

    Day 2- London UK- FD

So yesterday ended being a write off, but I got up determined to do FD. I’m not sure if I’m doing right as I have had 3 smaller meals but no snacking, which is really difficult for me! I didn’t realise how much I do it. But a Coffee no milk sorted out that one. Couldn’t do B2B either. Looking forward to my dinner tomorrow already but I won’t snack.

    Day 1, USA-OK, FD

Hi! This is my first time participating in a forum. I’ve done the 5:2 off and on and am trying to be more diligent about it. Beginning weight is about 127 lbs and goal is to lose 10.

Hi all day 2 UK Co Down FD

@songbirdme – happy birthday – hope its a good one – I love German wine too!

@Schatzill – Yay!! go you – there will be no stopping you now!

@happymargo – so glad your OH has seen the light and has come from the ‘dark side’ lol

@and.exhale – so agree about spiralised courgette – never really liked it before but would now say I prefer it to spagetti.

@rjw – I loved step classes ha ha when they were first all the rage, are they making a comeback?

@amada-new – I have a big birthday too at the end of this month – 60 on the 24th feels like I am talking about another person lol.

@edzeko – what about suggesting on your FD’s your family prepare and cook whatever they like. You can go for a walk, read, have a bath but have some me time. Then on your NFD’s you can prepare healthy real food for them – win win! Use this challenge as you see fit – if it helps!

@at – as grateful as I perhaps? Sometimes it soothes the soul reading the positive messages – especially as the world out there can seem dark and cruel, this thread re-sets the balance.

    @arvandee – happy anniversary!

As some of you know I think visualising is a great tool and I was just wondering if someone offered you 1 million pounds to stay on track for this month – do you think you would do it? Probably! So if you are tempted by something you think may sabotage your efforts I want you to think of that million pounds. What are you thinking of saying yes to that would cost you, ok not a million pounds but is it really worth it? It is so true what they say you can’t put a price on health. Just a thought?

For the wine drinkers – I was at a restaurant some years ago which had wine glasses with a small measure marked on the side (125 ml). I asked if I could buy one but they very kindly gave me one to take home. I use that anytime I pour a glass and find it helps. Be warned however you don’t get much for 125 ml lol!

    Still day 2.

Was going for 72 hours, but I need to be sociable with my other half, so fish with ratatouille will be served after 48 hours. 600kcal of course. Will fast again tomorrow, and Thursday. Cycled today too so hopefully burnt a few more than normal

    Day 2| uk | FD

First FD nearly done. It’s not been too bad as busy at work. Was planning on doing a run tonight but didn’t manage it. Went for a walk instead.
    Weigh in tomorrow eeek!

    Day 2 – UAE – NFD
@songbirdme May your birthday and every day be filled with the warmth of sunshine, the happiness of smiles, the sounds of song-bird-4you, the feeling of love and the sharing of good cheer.

    Day 2 US FD
    Day 1 NFD

    Day 3 NZ FD

    @okeydokey thanks for spreadsheet
Info and all your hard work. I’d take the same results in May but think it might be tougher second time around. Feeling very focused Still .

Thanks for all your work @okeydokey ,I started five days before April so not top loss in reality. Well done done to everyone who joined in and did whatever they did in regards to loss or maintaining….lets hope we can all achieve something in May …… eeeek 😁

    Amazing work Okeydokey,

Would you happen to want a job being our Excel spreadsheet expert here at the law firm?

    Please????? I hate doing that……………

Seriously, thanks for all your hard work. And congrats to all who maintained, lost, or if neither – gained knowledge and inspiration to help them navigate the May challenge.

    Linda

    Second post,
Nearing the end of a successful NFD. I resurrected the Hairy Dieters Cookbook and cooked a delicious jalfrezi, calories counted, healthy food for OH and me.
@songbirdme I hope the remainder of your day brings you great happiness. Happy birthday!
@schatzii, brilliant news. Good luck with all your hard work.
@fraub your jungle walks sound really exciting – makes my trek through our local forest park look tame!
@belfastsink those rare rays make the beers/wine in the garden are all the tastier! Haven’t these last few days just been wonderful!
@okeydokey an amazing job altogether. Thank you so much again for your hard work, support and optimism. You’re a star 💥💥

happy birthday @songbirdme! hope you had a lovely day!

Just taking the time to re-read posts for inspiration. I just got home from work and grocery shopping, and now I’m saying to myself, “Well, I could just eat some cheese and crackers, and make up for it later this week.” But, I’ve made it this far in my fast day–5 p.m. here–and I don’t want to give in! I’ve planned a salad for dinner, but still have a few hours to go before meal time. Maybe exercise is the best bet. Hoping that taking the time to read your posts and write this for myself will keep me going strong.

    D2 / GA, US / NFD

Yesterday (FD) was much easier than I envisioned. The only problem was morning. I was trying to hold out until 10 a.m. to eat breakfast but I was too hungry. Made it only to 9 a.m. But once I had my lunch, it was smooth sailing. I stopped thinking about food and I wasn’t hungry. Had no problem eating what I had planned for supper either. The key – for me – is to not even think about it as a FD. I just plan the meals and forget it. At least it worked 1 day. LOL Will see on my next FD.

Today (NFD) was also good. I’ve had no problem eating within 8-hour window and not binging despite a brief period of thinking “oh boy, what fantastic treat will I have on my NFD”. I just kept it at my normal routine eating.

I hope everyone is doing well. Stay strong!

    Day 2 MN USA. NFD

    Day 2&3 NFD NZ
I broke my FD yesterday at about 45/46 hours and had a controlled remainder of the day.
Today will be a 16:8, I’m off to the gym for a weight session, I was really keen for a bush run but it’s been pouring with rain since last night and there’s no sign of it letting up. The track I like gets really slippery when it’s this wet and I don’t want to risk an injury that will stop me running even more days so inside to the gym it is.

My new job has me on my feet all day, after a decade of office work it’s taking a bit to adjust, but I’m hoping the added 16hours a week of incidental exercise helps push me along toward my goals this month.

I made a delicious tempeh dish with a light sauce and cauli rice stir fry last night. I’m debating eating the leftovers for lunch/breaking 16:8 today or Greek yoghurt with berries and seeds….something to contemplate while I lift heavy things this morning.

Australia Day 3 NFD sorry I didn’t check in yesterday – it was a NFD too but I am pleased with the choices I am making on these NFDs..
oh and my starting weight was 91kgs.

    Day 2, Cumbria UK, nfd
    Today’s weight= 149lbs 2oz
    Goal weight for May= 144lbs
Planning on doing a back to back for days 3 and 4.
    Xx

    London | Day 2 | FD

Welcome any newbies (and non-newbies) to the May forum!

It was a tough FD for me today. This was my proper fast since the beginning of March (I think!). Also lots of cake and pizza at work – colleague’s birthday! It took a lot of will power to stay fasting just on sparkling water and sugar-free gum. Towards the end of the day I had to break one of my resolutions of this wol – I had a diet coke! It had to be done.

I had a mug of miso soup when I got home. That took the edge of the hunger pangs.

I’m planning another fast tomorrow – sort of a b2b I guess. After breakfast tomorrow, I’ll fast until breakfast the following day. I’ll be at a conference in Leeds all Thursday and Friday with a banquet in between – so unlikely I’ll get another FD then.

I’m conscious that I haven’t written about my 5:2 weight loss journey on this forum yet. Please bear with me – after this conference I will have a mega catch up and write a long post.

I saw a question about my ‘username’ by a couple of people while was having a quick glance through the posts 🙂 – let me clarify that:

Pissupoosa in my language literally means crazy-cat!

    Pissu (crazy/mad)
    poosa (cat)
(if you ask my OH he’ll verify that my personality fits this literal translation, lol!)

Anyone know/remember the cartoon series ‘Topcat’? I think it was a British programme – but not sure. When I was small it was one of my favourite TV shows and in Sri Lanka (where I’m originally from and grew up in) Topcat was dubbed in sinhalese (my mother tongue) – and it was called ‘Pissupoosa’ 🙂 there was a catchy tune to go with it too I remember.

So there, that’s the story behind my name (my real name is Sasala).

I only realised later on that pissupoosa it can be broken down differently – to make pissup.. (and …oosa) – which has a completely different meaning in England :-p

Right, I’m off to pack my bag for the conference. Good night everyone and all the best for FDs and NFDs xx

    Day 2 – 2nd Post

Eventually broke my fast at 1300hrs with a light lunch, then spent the afternoon baking for the club I volunteer at on a Wednesday PM. I had a great evening yoga class – a restorative practice to pause and let go……

Had a light supper on return home but despite knowing that I’m not hungry I keep wanting to go explore the kitchen so I thought I would log on here and have a catch up and hopefully be distracted from the thought of food…..At the moment I am under TDEE and want to keep it that way after a great FD yesterday……..😇 and not be 😈

@bert1802 – hope you stay safe from the wild fires – 5-10miles away is not that far! so good news regarding your rainfall
@therealwil78 – good idea to nip those few little lbs creeping up in the bud – we can support each other on here and gain strength from all that support
@happymargo – been thinking of you on your first FD for a while – hope the positive vibes stayed with you and kept you strong. I am very lucky that even though the OH does not join me on my 5:2 WOL he is very understanding and supportive and there is no non-support or sabotage!! In fact he can be helpful, when we go out for a coffee and cake I often only eat 1/2 my serve and he hoovers up the other half😉
@schatziii – great news re your thesis
@johnnyr – good to see you joining us again
@lola907 – TDEE (total daily energy expenditure) if you click on Resources at the top of the page here, then click on BMI Calculator there is a page with great information on and you can calculate your own – word of advice when choosing activity level best to underestimate as most people tend to over estimate this!
@okeydokey – great report for the end of the month – Thank You for your hard work – you can now relax a bit………Great job by yourself and @fordprefect with your weight loss last month x
@lany36 – how is the new job going? sounds like it will add to your step count for the day!!!
@pissupoosa – loved the explanation for your username!

Thank you my global friends for the support over the past hour reading and posting here – it has got me over that “hungry feeling phase” – off to brush my teeth then bed with a good book I have been reading Elizabeth Gilbert’s EAT PRAY LOVE – a good friend passed it on to me – not my usual read but am enjoying it – anyone else read it??

Tomorrow is another day – hopefully another controlled day (CD) for me!

Good night or Good Morning or Good Afternoon depending on where you are in the world!!!!!!

@chubbybiker Thanks for clearing this up. I apologize for the confusion. I’m glad we have cleared this up and can move on to more success in May! ✨✨🎉
