Good morning everyone .
Great success stories and promise of nice weather . I hope you both have a great holiday . It is getting much cooler here in Scotland but the sun is shining and the washing on the line . Going to give the carpets a good run over with the Dyson then dust and then hopefully some tie to myself this afternoon .
fasting day for me so I like to keep busy . I might make some home made soup for OH.
Everyone seems so positive today and I love that .
I might try some more clothes on later . I am like a big kid when I can get something else on that was too wee . I get all excited . Only people here can understand how that feels .
have a lovely day , don’t work too hard AND remember to drink water ..Onwards and downwards everyone 🙂
Wee xx
Hi jojo,
No chance of me doing anything apart from working, eating and sleeping until the disseration is done and dusted. I am planning not to do a great deal for a week of so afterwards. Sod’s law says a major translation job will come in, so I’ll have to do it. Not having done any paid work for five weeks, I won’t have much choice. Good job I love translating.
One other thing has to be dealt with before, or alongside, the family tree. I may have mentioned before, as part of the MA we had to do an independent research project. I struck gold with mine as I traced the history of the Glasgow Tenement House (a National Trust for Scotland property) and how it became a social history museum. One fabulous story after another emerged as I researched – with a lot of help from some wonderful NTS people – and wrote up the project. So impressed was my supervisor, she suggested I should seriously think of reworking the project report as a book for a general readership. I thunk, and I’ve decided I’m going to do it. So sometime next year, probably in the spring, I shall be back in Bonnie Scotland. I’ll have to pop over and see you, wee. 🙂
Oh Wee what a lovely thing to look forward too, trying on clothes that before were snug and now are fitting nicely 🙂
Herma that sounds like a wonderful project … that sort of “living” history is wonderful and would be a fabulous read I’m sure 😀
I had some good news today, from March until now I’ve been only working 2 days a week (economic downturn meant my previous position with another company was no longer there and I was lucky and found this work within 2 months) well I got asked to go full time casual starting next Monday with probability of permanency in 5 months with a salary package (yay) … this is wonderful as we’d almost gone through all our savings while surviving on my OH’s injury insurance (not work cover but income protection type insurance as he hurt himself off the job) which although technically equal to his average wage does not take into account allowances etc and my cut down from a trainers wage (facilitating adult learners to achieve their Dip of Bus) to 2 days casual admin work. I’m now going to be part of the hiring processes for their workers (glass house work), training in some areas – I have my qualifications for this too (already taught some of their team leaders to use the basics of MS Word, Excel and Outlook using learning materials that I developed – most were born overseas and English is their 2nd language), organising contracts for new employees (we have seasonal work which is why it’s taken so long to get more time here for me but now the busy, busy time is coming), auditing the personnel files (also I’m a trained internal auditor in the adult education arena). This is so wonderful and although it’s not as high a wage as a trainers wage here it is meaning that I no longer have to dip into our savings and may even be able to start replacing what we had to use over the past 8 months. Sorry for the rambling on in here but I just had to get it out of me, I’m brimming over from the stress and worry to joy and happiness that I just can’t fully explain.
Herm that sounds really exciting . I am loving getting to know everyone and getting a mental image of you all in my head . I wish we could do pictures :).
Aussie , not rambling at all . Really interesting and exciting . You all make me feel so lazy brain wise 🙂
If any of you are on facebook you can find me there 🙂 . I have found so many of my cousins etc on there . My granny had 12 children ( 2 died as babies)and the rest went on to have children and their children had children lol …you get the picture . So I had so many cousins I had never met . I am now great friends with some of them and loving it .
Wee xx
Afternoon all.
As I left the house this morning the heavens opened so I took the bus, but walked home in the sunshine that followed the rain. It has turned into a beautiful day 🙂
Floating wine glasses sound interesting……….
Oma, glad to hear the good news regarding your job. I hope it all works out well for you.
I’ve just eaten a muffin, but it wasn’t one of those disgusting sweet cloying things on sale everywhere that come in around 700 calories 😮 but a much healthier and less calorific (230)version made by my own fair hands. It went very well with my coffee.
Now I need to plan what I’m going to do to work it off!
Hi all you lovely fast trackers!
Thanks for your kind words, Purple, Nicky, Amazon, Aussie Oma,
Gave a dinner party tonight and am having trouble winding down. I served Baked salmon, fennel, lemon zest, and pepper in parcels for main course. Served with asparagus, tomatoes and broccolini. As it was non fast day, had small pieces of baked potato and kumara (sweet potato). Yum yum!
Happy fasting Thursday! I will be. Bay 🙂
It’s 9 p.m. and I shall shortly turn into a pumpkin. I’ve been beavering away all day and can just about see the light at the end of the tunnel. I don’t think it’s a train coming the other way…
Anyway I’m getting there but there’s still a lot to get through. Thankfully, Hismaj, bless him, is a good cook, ‘cos he’s doing it all while I’m doing MA impersonations.
Unless the National Trust for Scotland decide I’m an undesirable alien 🙂 I’m gonna go for the book next year. I’d love to pop round and see weemam, I’m guessing from Glasgow it’s fairly easy to get to most places in Scotland. I’d love an Aussie research assistant – am I right in remembering you are of Scottish extraction, Purple.
jojo, hi, glad it’s working. 🙂
Good morning/evening everyone. Thanks for the great feedback re my work, yes it was worrying but now I can replenish the coffers 🙂
Hermaj glad the light in the tunnel is growing and it’s not a train.
Jojo I’m so glad you’re enjoying the mini iPad … I’ve had a Samsung tablet for a few years now, love it 🙂
Bay, yummmy dinner party, sounds wonderful. I haven’t been or hosted one for years now but most of our friends are in a different head space right now. Having said that I often will invite friends over for a meal and we all have a great time, but I don’t count that as a dinner party as I don’t have a 3 course dinner or anything just main and dessert. I do this several times a year as I love to socialise and I’m not too bad a cook either (which is why our children and grandies love to come for meals here, lol).
Weemam I’ve seen pictures of Scotland, have friends who were born there but never been myself. I have also read many books relating to Scotland, its a fascinating land. One day I will get to go there, when though is another story. Enjoy your autumnal weather and hoping today (tomorrow your time) is a glorious day for you.
Amazon sounds like you had a yummy muffin. Glad you didn’t get soaking wet in that rain. As with Wee I hope you have a glorious autumnal day as well.
I hope I haven’t missed anyone, if I have my sincere apologies.
Today is a non-fast day and now tomorrow will be my weigh day so hopefully even though it will only be three days since last weigh I will have lost a little or stayed the same or at least have the tape measure move down a fraction.
Excellent news, Aussie Oma. You must be delighted. It must have been grim dipping into your savings with not much prospect of a real job. Fingers, toes, everything crossed that it will all work out beautifully and that 5 months from now the permanent post will be ready and waiting for you. It’s already a step up from what you are doing now.
I admire – and envy – your IT skills. There are certain things I’m good at but sadly anything to do with computers is not one of them. I’m queen of the hit-the-wrong-key-and-watch-the-lot-fall-over people. 🙁
LOL Hermaj re IT skills, you did pretty well with the last bit of your post 🙂 and thanks yes it was worrying but now at least the immediate pressure is off so I can concentrate on me and 5:2 more.
After thinking about what (I think it was Weeman) put about Bovril yesterday has got me thinking about getting some so I can take it to work for fast days.
Thankfully today is a non-fast day as to celebrate my new status I’m taking a cake in to work to share with about 10 people and so at least I can have a small sliver if I feel like it (or not as the case may be). I’ll go to our local bakery who are well renowned for their products … I won’t get a cream cake but if I did they use REAL cream and everything is baked on the premises! Luckily they’re open already if I wanted to go down but I’ll just leave a little earlier for work. I’m so very lucky in that my workplace is 5 1/2 km from my door to the car park, as I drive it only takes 6 mins (never worked this close to home before) but today as I’m going via the township (which is 6km in another direction and work is 7km from there) I’ll have to allow extra time plus time for choosing and being served 🙂
Having said all that I’ll need to get off the computer and get organised lol have a wonderful fast/non-fast day … onward and downwards one and all 🙂
Morning/evening FTs
Enjoy your birthday goodies Jojo. And your holiday. Wine in a large bulb shaped plastic glass looks great floating around the pool. Only issue is if the grandkids start splashing around or someone turns the waterfall on…don’t want my wine diluted!
Your dinner sounded yummy, Bay! I frequently have people for dinner and, these days, always serve fast diet type food (low in carbs, high in tasty veg, healthy dessert). It is a great way to promote this wol as an enjoyable option, not a sentence.
I’m clearing my schedule now, hermaj. I indeed have Scottish blood. Even have some from right near Glasgow, and near Stirling, Weemam. Have been to Scotland several times and adore it. That would explain why we joined the expat Scots last week after the vote. ;(
Fast today and I felt sick all night. Will be a struggle… P
Hi everyone
I am fasting today. After the dinner party who needs food.
Go, Hermaj, Dissertating away on the other side of the World.
Wee, it all sounds wonderful.
Oma, congratulations on your new job. What a relief. 🙂
Happy Birthday, Jojo. I will be very interested in your mini iPad experiences. I used my iPad all through our long holiday and it was good for booking hotels and cars and train tickets. And for keeping in touch with the exploits of the 5:2 family. 🙂
Cheers, Bay 🙂 lovely Spring weather here, with showers and warm sun. Good for our new lawn.
It would be lovely to meet up I am 5 mins from the train station.. You would all love Stirling . We actually live on the site of the battle of Bannockburn 1314 . there are about 11 battlefields all around this area . Hubby is really into History and Geography .
I love the laptop . It is my way of relaxing and . Ross our youngest ( the one with CP) went to college (and Uni for over a year )and got his HND in computing 🙂 if I have a problem he takes over my laptop from his house and fixes it for me while I just sit back and watch the cursor move around lol .
I am so pleased you like your present Jojo. Ross gave me a good tablet when he moved … I like it and it is touch screen BUT I like the laptop best .
Bay I am so chuffed for you as we say here , Isn’ it such a brilliant feeling when
your clothes are too big . better than winning the lottery eh!.
I had to throw another pair of trousers out today , just old ones I wear about the house as the were too long and the crotch was almost at my knees lol .
PVE we might be related with your Scottish blood lol .. you never know .
Aussie it was me that said Bovril . I love it ,I always put a wee pinch of salt in it as it enhances the flavour . I am not someone that ever adds salt to a meal but I feel the Bovril needs it .
I tried sleeping about an hour ago and I couldn’t drop off but as it is almost 1 AM I’d better go try again .
Have a brilliant day everyone .
Wee xx
Because I don’t suffer from celiac , I eat oatmeal . Though it elevates my sugars, slightly , I tend to not need or crave carbs for the rest of the day, so typically wether it’s a fast day or feed day, I’ll have an egg with oatmeal. Because the oatmeal is carb, wont eat more carbs or I’ll spike. Oatmeal trickles sugars Into my bloodstream I’m guessing, and chicken egg covers many long term vitamin and mineral issues.
So I’m intrestead in looking into oat flour , which s said to be gluten free, but can be cross contaminated with traces of gluten because the oats and wheat are processed in the same facilities. And if I were celiac . Oatmeal would cause similar discomforts. But I’m interested in going gluten free, and may choose to make some carb foods from oats. Looking into. Tortilla made from oat flour asi believe I could pair ground vegetables into tortillas like mini peppers and pumpkin, both know for vitamin A. The other factor as I looking for online inspiration of homade alternative to tortilla is time. Unlike bread it can go from shelf to plate in ten minutes.
Eventually this tortilla alternative to bread , will be the ability to cut the tortilla into thin very thin strips and be also a replacement for noodles. Not zero noodles, but naturally flavored nutrition dense noodles. Estimating that I can still have beans and the tortilla strips for 300 calories. To cover macro and micro nutrition. I’m guessing this may be a final key in my own cost and budget. As prep scraps can be liquified and put into the oat tortilla. And frozen.
Very pleased these food experiments are proving to keep my sugars in low 100s . As it’s been 5 months since I’ve been able enjoy food without thinking and calculating it.
Here’s a picture of what I’m trying to eventually perfect.
Especially with cinnamon and pumpkin.
http://static.tastykitchen.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2012/09/spicy-tortilla-chips-2-410×266.jpg
A potato chip alternative chip. That is nutrient dense.
My lad would like chilli and cinnamon. ..hey, I’m fasting (12.10 here) and you’ve got me looking at recipes Samm!
Mmmm..the Moroccan eggs on that site look good. ..I’d forgotten them.
Back to another glass of water.
Just had a thunder storm here. Don’t normally get them until November. Feels positively summery.
All the best with your experiment. P
Morning all.
Another beautiful sunny morning.
I don’t like Marmite or Bovril but I love Vegemite. I don’t think it would make a good drink though, so I’ll stick to my herbal teas and the occasional coffee with a splash on fast days.
Jojo, have a wonderful time in Spain, don’t worry about the food, just eat a little of what is available and enjoy it. I hope you come back feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.
Fast day for me today.
have a good day/evening everyone.
Way to go Bay, hope you find some gorgeous new clothes 🙂 such a lovely way to celebrate your losses 😀
Thanks Wee, I couldn’t quite recall who mentioned Bovril, but I remember it from when I was a child in England, brings back nice memories.
Amazon, when we first came to Australia we tried with Vegemite and no, not the same, doesn’t dissolve like needed (a bit lumpy iykwim)
PVE no thunder here but it IS overcast at the moment, but heading for high 20’s over the weekend.
Oh SAMM so much information, we’re so lucky that you share with us, however any recipes will have to wait until I’m more settled on my routines on 5:2 so I’ll bookmark those for later 🙂
Thank goodness I don’t have any celiac issues.
Another good day today thus far. Took cake in to work to celebrate but managed to only have a tiny sliver and gave everyone else larger pieces, brought remainder home for OH to consume.
Amazon hoping your fasting day goes fast for you 🙂
Happy birthday jojo.
It is two years tomorrow since I gave up working. Where did the time go?
So noisy here today. Roofers hammering, power tools out the front as the falling down wall is demolished and power tools in next door’s back garden!
I’m looking forward to the sound of the painter working 😆
Happy Birthday Jojo! And have a great holiday! Finally have internet in the Land of My Fathers so can keep up with the 5-2 news. Hope everyone is having a good day – fasting for most no doubt. We’re out for a meal with friends tonight and going to a coffee morning tomorrow, and out again for neighbourhood drinks in the evening, so are postponing ours until we are home on Saturday. I think I will need to get in an extra one after this week! I know what you mean about the bra Jojo. It doesn’t feel right only having two rows of hooks instead of three…..
Smiffy x
Hi jojo, What you have prepared for your daughter sounds suspiciously like my Naff Vegetable Soup, i.e. made with ingredients cleared out of the fridge before we jet off somewhere. Yours sounds like a nice healthy one for cold days, Probably a pretty colour, too. In summer it tends to be some shade of green, not always very appealing, but usually tasty. Enjoy Cadiz, oh BTW, wouldn’t it be fun to have a bunch of ladies formerly of ‘traditional build’ turning up in Scotland. 🙂
Hi Smiffy, Great that you are no longer incommunicado. All this talk of bras reminds me that pre 5:2 I could just about do mine up on the first row of hooks and often ended up with a nasty red weal under the boobs. For ages now, I’ve been able to do it up on row three with not a red mark in sight.
The dissertation is under control. I’ve had a couple of good days and there’s not too much further to go. I’m so lucky that Him Indoors is a good and willing cook. It’s given me a couple more hours a day to carry on working.
Happy birthday Jojo. Best wishes for your trip too 🙂
Feeling fine now, thanks HM. I struggled with fasting for a while, then a tradie arrived to put a camera down our sewer line. Gripping stuff…great distraction.
Drove up to our holiday place on the coast last night (eating lettuce, falafels and tomato as we drove). I felt great, headache gone and slept well. The sun is now up, glistening on the ocean, as songbirds warble outside. They have a much more gentle sound here than the cockatoos and kookas at home. Cheers all. P
Good morning/evening five2ers.
PVE glad you’re feeling better. We have nesting birds near our bedroom window (I’m sure one has a baby as it is VERY noise as the sky lightens hence why I’m up before 6am on my last regular non-working Friday).
Jojo I think your soup sounds wonderful, I’m sure it will be enjoyed during your absence 🙂
Smiffy glad to see you here again now that you’ve got some internet available to you.
Hermaj sounds like you’ve got a keeper in hismaj 😀 just like I do with my OH.
Amazon even the painters need to make a little bit of noise from time to time depending on the job and what needs doing (I say this from experience as my OH is one lol).
Hi SAMM, Ply and anyone else I’ve not said hello to today 🙂
Well my new weigh in day is today (my last weigh in day was a Tuesday which will not be sustainable long term so I’ve changed to today, Friday, from now on). I am truly shocked, in a happy way, at my weight this morning, after all it’s only 3 days since last weigh in, but to still lose 1.2kg is unheard of for me and that is after a large (for me) evening meal yesterday! Not sure what my fast days will be next week but will decide by Sunday.
Well done AO 🙂
Have you considered weighing every morning and recording the lowest in the week? A great morale booster, especially if you record it…from memory you do on Excel? I find daily monitoring proves to me how much my weight fluctuates naturally (about 2 kg + and -).
I think we Aussies are all up early with the birds nesting and Daylight savings not started yet! Have a good one. P
Hi all lovely fast trackers,
Have a wonderful holiday, Jojo
Great day today. Sun is shining, birds are singing, dog is asking for a walk, AND I weighed in at 59.5 kg. 🙂
Lowest weight since beginning on 5:2 in January.
Like Purple, I weigh every day and find it very interesting to see the fluctuations. Tried on lots of clothes yesterday and bought some lovely long shorts. I need a new bra in a smaller cup and am now officially a size 9 in trousers and size 12 in shirts. I still cannot quite imagine that I am that small. Pinch myself!
Have a happy day. Bay 🙂
Thanks PVE I have considered weighing daily but I would then obsess so I don’t want to go down that path at the moment (I know the fluctuations which is why today was such a pleasant shock). I was truly AMAZED that I lost so much, I thought maybe stay the same or lose 2 to 300g but this was awesome! The best bit though is that I lost cm’s too (overall 8cm!!) all since Tuesday. Yes I track on Excel, I’ve got it set up so it works out my total loss so far as well as weekly differences, it then gives a graph (on a separate sheet) of where I’m heading/how I’m going.
Woo hoo Bay that’s awesome. Go you!
I’m not good with the fluctuations, if I saw a slight increase I would get down (yes I know it would only be temporary but just now it’s not the right thing for me … maybe once I’m into 2 figures and I’m fully adjusted to the changes in my wol).
Soo happy for you though Bay, that’s fantastic. Looking forward to the day I can get into my size 14’s which are gathering dust at the moment (I have got some lovely clothes in size 14 but can’t get anywhere near them yet, size wise). I put all my smaller size clothes (fitted 18’s, all 16’s and 14’s) over to one side in my wardrobe. I only have 2 or 3 fitted 18’s, 5 or 6 16’s and the rest are 14’s and there are more of them than the other 2 put together. This way I should be able to last clothes wise until I’m into 12’s (or less … will see how I’m going at this point).
My OH is an Excel expert, so he made me use his setup…I had done a pen and paper version 🙁 He also did a spreadsheet listing all our commonly used foods, their kilo joule per 100g and a calculator so I could log it all in. Gee whiz! I grudgingly admit it was handy for a couple of months, but I kept stuffing the calculator bit up. I very quickly went off on my own system. Ah well.
I don’t obsess re daily weights. Like Bay, it’s a good daily reminder how to maintain my weight. 🙂 P
PVE not saying I’m an expert but it does what I want. Saves me having to try to figure out (a) how much I lost this week and (b) how much I’ve lost overall. It was just a simple calculation. BTW if your OH had protected the sheet and just allowed certain cells to be entered into it wouldn’t have been possible for you to stuff the calculator bit up. As my OH is computer illiterate I enter his data for him (if/when he wants it done).
Glad you don’t obsess re daily weights, unfortunately that’s not something I can deal with right now. I’ll revisit this in a few weeks once I’m into double figures 🙂
