Thanks for the congratulations from everyone! After 1.5 weeks of marriage, no regrets so far. 😉 Beautiful day in Toronto, and I’m able to do my editing work outside because it’s not too hot. And after gaining a couple of pounds on the honeymoon (well worth it: great food), I’ve lost them and another pound, so I’m down 2.5 for the month. I doubt I’ll make my goal of another 2.5 before July 31, but at least I got back on track after a wonderful week of eating too much, and that’s a miracle in itself. I’ve never been able to do that on any other diet. Down 19.5 lbs so far in total. Twenty to go. Three cheers for 5:2!
Here we are flying through July — congrats everyone!….. my Monday fast yesterday started well, but vaporized after a great meeting with heart specialist [turned out to be temporary concerns after chemo, but got the official all clear following stress test and muga and with ‘optimal’ blood pressure to boot — I partly attribute this as another happy side effect of 5 2]
…..anyways, I got a bit cocky in the celebration department — hence I humbly report no change in weight this week.
I am realizing my goals and motivations have changed after choosing a different surgery for August, and now look at my little joey pouch as future cleavage,… 🙂 so not wanting to reduce it any further in order to help the plastic surgeon do her miracle work!
As of today I am 30 days from surgery so focusing on committing to a daily healthy lifestyle til then. I do still want to reduce 1 more pound by month’s end, then maintain in August.
However, come August….. drum roll please, I will join Milena and Mike in the alcohol free month challenge [my gawd, did I just write that??] and will even extend it til Sept 20 [1 month post surgery]. They also say no chocolate or caffeine for a month after…….sigh…..smart ass as ever, I asked why couldn’t lima beans be on that list!!!???
Hello all, TTL, did you include my pound for last week too, I think I posted before you asked so I don’t know if you saw it or not. Anyway, I have another pound to add to lardy lad after the midweek weigh in, which makes it 3lb total in July, 13lb in total from beginning, meaning I am now 11st 9.5lb and only one pound away from the mighty mile-stone. 🙂 hoping to get to there by the end of the month. Hope everyone is well. 🙂 xxx
Hi everyone, Another 2 lbs for Lardy Lad. My target was 3 lbs for the month, so I have already achieved that. I am hoping for another 2lbs over the next 10 days. I will trying very hard to make that goal. No more instant gratification as I am keeping my goal in sight and not overeating.
I was very green Up when you wrote about St Andrews. I love it even when cold and windy!!!
Have a great week everyone.
Hi All you lovely Thin People, here’s a little thought for the day:
“Just remember, in 20 seconds that junk food will be gone,
The taste will be over and forgotten,
and all that will be left is regret,
JUST LIKE THE LAST TIME…..”
I can relate to this very often in the past, it’s always hard however if we use the past regrets as the trigger at the time when we stand in the queue at McDonalds or KFC (I was at McD’s with the grand kids on Saturday) then it becomes easier. I just thought if I order that burger how many minutes does it represent on the treadmill to eliminate those calories, so I had a nice coffee as the Grandies enjoyed their little treats (are McD’s meals really treats???)
Some great recording in above posts of good weekly reductions, well done all you strong people, you are all amazing, keep up the great work, cheers Mike
Hey TTL and all you little motivational voices. Sorry TTL i haven’t posted any of my reduction donations to lardy lad so far this month.
I have been eyeing the scales, my general trend is to be pounds down, yay, to then weigh after wknd and be back to previous weight, boo. So this month I have mainly been down 16:8, thanks to fitnfast and have found my reductions to be more stable. So far 3lb and 3/4. I am pleased and hoping keep reducing.
When I exercise I have a loop of slim and trim going round in my head.
So lovely getting all the notifications from everyone. Congratulations on the wedding and engagement news.
Best of luck with the surgery phoebe on the lake. I can’t imagine what you have been through. Sending you lots of healing energy.
Have a great day everyone xx
Aaargh. Fast day went off the rails at lunchtime. I’d been ravenously hungry all morning. If I’d gone dancing yesterday I would have attributed it to that. However did some meditation and energy healing with my partner last night so may be related. Does anyone on the thread have any similar experience?
Anyway, I’ve gone with what my body has yelled at me and now re planning my 2nd fast day for tomorrow. That’s the beauty of this lifestyle!
Hope everyone else is sticking to plan. Ruthy
Hi TTL, sorry a bit late with my weekly weight update but my holiday was extended by a day due to the events in St Andrews, then had an away golf match all day yesterday! Sorry to report a one pound gain from last Monday! Could have been worse as I was on holiday for a week with no fast day, many eat-outs, lots of vino and picnics, so trying to keep positive. Does this mean Lardy Lad is one pound lighter? No, I assume you are saving all the pounds lost/gained until the end of July and the interim weigh-in results are for motivational purposes only!
I have had a good fast day so far today, and need it as I have social events on Fri, Sat and Sun and they all involve eating, so no chance of another fast until next Mon. What a yo-yo month this has been for me – Week 1 up, Week 2 down, Week 3 up – let’s hope the trend continues and Week 4 will be down!!
Pleased to see the Lardy Lad continues to grow! I contributed to the Crisco Kid in June (not sure how much he finally weighed) and hope the Lardy Lad is even heavier! I reached my goal weight in June and delighted to report that I am 3 lb under so maybe the Lardy Lad would like to have this weight added on.
… And I too have reported this post. What a rude intrusion into our thread! I looked up his/her profile and it says Hola amigos. No other action in the forum – just this reply in our thread … So Mundoabdel, if you read this, please p*** off and take your unwanted advertising with you – we are all doing quite nicely thank you on 5:2 – and AT NO COST !!
Morning All,
TTL congrats on your engagement – very exciting time 🙂
I will be posting my 2 week result tomorrow as I missed last week. I just wanted to post this brilliant recipe, it is one of Mimi’s that I found online. I decided to just have a couple of rice cakes yesterday for lunch (58 cals) and then made this for my dinner. I had both portions (444 cals) as part of my 500 day and I struggled to finish it!! Having said that I did as I went for a long swim this morning so needed the energy. Please try it if you like curry & prawns! I made it a couple of weeks ago as well and had half on Monday and the other half on Wednesday (my normal 2 days for fasting). One hint though I added an extra tablespoon of water and cooked the pepper and onion a bit longer. Also I used Alpro coconut milk at 20 cals per 100 as I couldn’t get any half fat coconut milk and it works just fine. Enjoy!
SERVES 2 Calories per serving 222
2 tbsp medium or hot curry paste (Patak’s Tikka Masala paste works well)
2 tbsp cold water
1 red onion, finely sliced
1 red pepper, halved, deseeded and sliced
1 whole red chilli, deseeded and finely chopped
1 tbsp mango chutney
3 large ripe tomatoes, cores removed, roughly chopped
150ml half-fat coconut milk
200g cooked or raw peeled king prawns
100g baby spinach leaves
fresh coriander and lime juice to serve
Heat a large pan and add curry paste, water, onion, pepper, chilli and cook for 4 minutes, until softened, stirring well. Add chutney, tomatoes and coconut milk and simmer for 3 minutes. Add prawns and spinach, cook for 3 minutes until prawns are pink and the spinach has just wilted. Serve with a squeeze of lime and coriander leaves.
YOU MAY WISH TO ADD a shop-bought low-calorie naan bread (allow 120 cals).
Jfitsy. That curry sounds fab
TTL. Thanks for the encouragement. FD2 today and back on track. Have a couple of olives sneaked into my ham salad as a little surprise.
Must have just been a metabolic blip yest. Glad I listened to my body and ate though. That’s partly what this is about. Learning to listen to what the body wants instead of feeding my head and or my emotions.
Keep it going everyone. We’re getting lighter and lovelier every week! X x
JFitzy, the curry sounds great. I’ll have to give it a whirl! Shame the OH doesn’t eat shellfish – but then we tend to eat different meals on a fast day anyway. 🙂
2nd FD of the week here and so far so good. I’ve logged in to have a little boost from the fellow little voices! So far I’ve had a cuppa soup and a 0% fat yoghurt so plenty of cals left for dinner tonight. I’m planning on cooking a small portion of a low fat jambalya (full portion is 444cals so I’ll do a 1/2 portion).
Ah! It was a fast day today and I FORGOT! I started out well, planned my 500 calories, but then because it’s the end of term, all my classes brought in sweets and I just chowed down, forgetting! Got to lighten up my evening meal now to compensate. At least it shows that I’m getting used to the fast days, I’m not obsessing over when I can eat!!! Xxx
Morning all from sunny and warm Wellington NZ, 13 degrees this morning (Friday) and there is actually some warmth in the sun, looking really good for golf tomorrow.
A round of golf has taken on a whole new perspective because my exercise tracker says it burns 1300 calories and the hills around some of the holes are actually feeling a little easier to walk too. So even if I score a double bogey I just think “Oh well, I can compensate that with a few extra calories” and I move on.
I received an email today from FD saying that nasty post on our “Tiny Voices Forum” has been removed, so well done everyone who reported it. It’s good to know we are taken notice of.
I reached a big milestone today when I had a sneaky weigh in, I reached the 6kg (13lbs) reduction level on my graph for the month, feeling very pleased with myself. I’m amazed how easy this has really become.
As advised earlier I’m still maintaining alternative day fasting (7 FD’s per 2 weeks) plus the alternative days (except 1) have all been below my TDEE calorie level. This coupled with a minimum 4 x 30 minutes per week on the home traedmill (1,000 calories total) has been quite a lifestyle turnround. The only aspect I’m finding hard is boredom from what I’m eating, so next month I must find some good new food recipes to introduce some variety from the steamed vegetables etc.
Anyway, let’s finish with a thought for the day:
“IF YOU THINK YOU CAN OR YOU THINK YOU CAN’T, YOU ARE CORRECT”
This says that “Thoughts in your mind determine your outcomes” so when you think “this fasting is too hard” it will become too hard. Replace that thought with “this fasting is so easy” your mind will believe that thought and you’ll feel so much better.
Keep feeding your mind with psoitive stuff, take away the negatives, (remember “reducing weight” instead of “losing weight”) and your days will become so much easier to enjoy and each week when the scales tell thier story you’ll feel so proud of yourself because YOU have achieved that result.
Plus your positive attitude will start to rub off on everyone around you. Not only will they comment on your new skinny figure, you will find new people will start to come into your life because of your positive attitude.
Hope all that makes sense for you guys, just try it, I think you’ll like the changes you’ll experience. Keep up the great efforts everyone, only 7 days to the end of the month and your goals are very achievable. I’m really proud to be in this little group of lovely people, thank you all for letting me in. Cheers, Mike
Action Hero that is EXACTLY what i needed to hear! i am doing a fast day today and i am getting so down for some reason but i just need to be positive and know that i can do it!!
Congrats on your milestone!! that is amazing!! keep going! i have fallen off the wagon a bit this week, i’ve been sick and not going to the gym but once you get into a routine everything seems to fall into place! so back to it today!!
Thanks Lolo,
Talking about “routines” if you don’t already have one, get yourself a little daily diary book, even small enough to carry around with you and make a habit of entering your daily scheduled activities, part of which are regular gym sessions, if you write these down as a time/date then you are making a commitment to do it, that time, that day, no excuses.
If something pops up any particular day and it overlaps with an already scheduled gym session you then have to make a decision to replace and reschedule or decide which one is more important.
Morning all. Well after a 2lb reduction in week 1, nothing in week 2, no weigh in last week I am delighted to report I have gone down by 5lbs yeah. I was getting very frustrated as I am exercising like mad so it has at last paid off. So that is 7lbs down in total for the month so far and my July goal was 8lbs so determined to smash that target! I go on joliday next Friday and intend to be and will be down into the next stone Have a great weekend one and all here is to a great last week of July. Can we get Lardy Lad to 8lbs !
Hi, all! Wow, everyone is doing so incredibly good, and here I am, back from my vacation island and I refuse to even contemplate getting on a scale!
I ate like there was no tomorrow. So I am starting what I intend to be a 3 day fast, eating only a good dinner. And a little exercise. With a completely torn apart tendon in my foot, I can’t do much. Then I remembered that what and when you eat loses the pounds. I only lost after I started fasting and STOPPED exercising!
So, one more 4 hour drive to get home to deal with my mom, who went into the skilled nursing facility while I was away, and back into my skinny jeans! And onward to a smashing August! Sorry I only contributed 2 pounds this month!
Remember FitnFast that it aint over until the fat lady sings, and we have a week to go before we get the serenade. It is funny how differently each body responds. For me, now that I am back to nose to the grindstone (aka work) my amount of exercising has plummeted. I stupidly got on my home scales (which are rubbish) this morning and they reflect a 2 lb gain from Monday. Hmm… I take heart in the fact that I am not so sure they are accurate. It also has given me the push to ensure my Monday weigh in on the gym scales doesn’t give me the same bad news.
Thanks for the positive words and thoughts AH. I am facing a weekend of serious discipline and will power (not one of my strong points). My friend is a working musician in a bar band, so staying on the pledge is a big challenge. I have already mucked it up for this month, but I will be part of the August challenge and will also join in the August pledge with more determination.
afternoon all! Very quick post from me as it’s crazy busy at work today – I haven’t been part of this challenge this month but I am pleased to report a 1lb loss for me this morning since last week. It’s right near the hormonal gain week too, which is incredible that I have managed a loss. I’m off to get my engagement ring resized down to the correct size tomorrow (not due to weight loss, just H2B not knowing what size I was!), so if ever there was an incentive to keep going on the 5:2, it’s now – with the wedding coming up!
Well done to all the ‘losers’!! Have a lovely weekend all. 🙂
Here are a few vacation pics; this is the only way I could think to link to them. Thanks for the monthly motivation that (usually) keeps me on track!

Hi, how’s everyone doing? Are the contractions beginning for the upcoming birth of Lardy Lad? I’m on a last push for the month, had hoped to lose 6lbs, currently sitting at 4. Pleased that weight is going down OF COURSE but it seems very grudging compared to how fast it went on when I quit smoking… but still, I’m the lightest I’ve been for a while. So pretty content really!
Also tbh, while I am mindful about what I am eating and eating loads of veg, protein, fat but not too much and few carbs I just cannot bear to count calories. I totally admire those of you that do, but it seems to bring out the joyless part of me and life’s too short for that. As long as I keep losing,(sorry, reducing AH) I will give that a swerve I think. My pedometer is good though, I definitely find it encourages me to walk about a bit more!
Best of luck to you all this coming week, look forward to booting that lardy ass out the door!! Kate Eve xx
Hi TTL, what a great HONEST post you have made above, it does feel better sharing the regrets after the little indulgences that we know will make that negative impact. You ask for some more “affirmations” however I think a little bit of Coaching advice might be more effective for us all because we have all eaten that same piece of cake that you enjoyed.
You opened your Post with the word “succumbed” which infers that you probably knew the consequences before that piece of cake was even eaten that it would “sit heavy” and also show on the scales. Our choices in life are all about the PAIN or the PLEASURE how those choices impact. If the PAIN of a decision (eating a cake we know we shouldn’t) is not sufficient to over ride the PLEASURE of the actual cake then we’ll probably always eat the cake. What we have to do is make the PAIN so great and the regret of doing it so intense that the PAIN will always over ride the PLEASURE of the cake.
One good way is by little rewards for achieving our results, like a reward for every pound of weight reduced. Now this mustn’t of course be a food or alcohol reward, it can be anything that is PLEASURABLE to ourselves, maybe a movie ticket, a new piece of clothing that we like, shoes, something that we want, however we know we can’t have that reward until that next small goal is reached, that next 1 or 2 pounds of weight shed by next Saturday or earlier. This will be the PLEASURE that will over rule the PAIN of our actions. So by eating a cake we know that doing so will probably make our reward 2 or 3 days further away before we are allowed to experience our next little PLEASURE.
Now I know this sounds a bit like training a child or even the family pet, however it’s all about breaking the habits of a life time. We are all on a journey that is breaking the habits of all the years when we haven’t worried about the PAIN of our actions, the cake was always far more pleasurable than the discomfort of the extra inch around the tum.
So this is a massive change for us all, maybe 30, 40 or 50 years of indulgent pleasures (habits) that all of a sudden we are told we shouldn’t have because it’s not in this months eating plan. We will all fail now and then however if we make our little rewards more pleasurable than the pain of indulgence then each time it will become easier not to eat that cake and the rewards will flow into our lives.
Write down all your rewards as you achieve them, look at your list often, this will reinforce your achievements and make you feel good about yourself.
Maybe our thought for this week should be:
“I AM THE BEST ME THAT I CAN BE” Tell yourself this 100 time a day and feel the difference.
Have a good week everyone, 5 days to go until we kick old Lardy out the door, let’s make this week the heaviest week of Lard so we can all have our rewards next Saturday. Cheers, Mike
Weigh-in for me today and sorry to report no loss, but no gain either. Not surprising as only managed one FD last week, and went slightly over TDEE on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with social occasions. I now need to lose 2 pounds by Friday if I am to record a one pound loss for the month – sadly I will be nowhere near my (what I thought modest) target of 4 pounds loss. It really gets tougher the closer you are to your target but I am determined to not give in! Thank goodness for this forum which provides focus and a wee bit of healthy competition! On FD today with liquids only so far and evening meal of chilli salmon with cauliflower rice planned for 6 pm – em, the hunger pangs I am experiencing right now might bring that time forward a bit!! I plan another FD on Wed – and I’ll need it as off for my birthday treat to a luxury golf resort in East Lothian on Thursday/Friday where I expect to exceed my daily allowances with gourmet dining on Thurs and a Full Scottish breakfast on Fri … However I will also have 2 rounds of golf so that should offset the excesses somewhat – thanks AH for the info about a golf round burning 1300 cals, I thought it was somewhat less than that, so that’s good to know!
TTL, as I am away until late on Fri 31st with no access to scales I will post my end of month results early on Sat 1st. Sorry that this will delay your final LL calculations – however our Canadian and U.S. friends will be 5 hours or more behind UK time so will probably post late (our time) on Fri.
Also TTL, Thank you so much for your leadership throughout this challenge – it is very time-consuming reading and responding to posts every day so thanks for giving up your valuable time and keeping everyone feel involved. I have loved reading every one of your posts (even the grumpy ones when the weather has got you down!) A job well done!! ** CYBER APPLAUSE **
Hoping all you Little Voices do well over these last few days of the monthly challenge and pull out all the stops to get Lardy Lad nicely plumped up before we send him into the ether!
Hope to see you all over on the August challenge on Saturday. Fitnfast, hope you are still up for leading us through the new challenge!
Keeeep Loooosing ! (Apologies AH, but I have always liked to sign off this way)
Up
Hi Upa, now I’m really jealous, I just Googled Golf Courses in Lothian Distict and came up with about 25, looks like more courses than houses LOL. Whish one are you playing at? What’s a “full Scotish Breakfast”, sounds like a sheep could be involved !!!
Calories per round of golf is based on your weight plus time taken and whether you carry clubs or pull a cart. Have a look in My Fitness Pal if you use that facility and you can get a closer result for your statistics.
Have a great birthday and weight status quo for the month is better than an increase so don’t beat yourself up, you have obviously done a lot of hard work in previous months.
Hi All
Weigh in done, nothing lost but at least nothing gained. My issue was, of course, falling off the wagon and having 2 drinks under my belt makes me eat like a lumberjack. I am actually amazed that I maintained. I still have a few days to push for that last 1/2 lb to meet my 4 lb goal. I will do another gym weigh in on Friday. For the August challenge, I am going to be more realistic and say no drinks Sunday through Thursday and go easy on Friday/Saturday.
Mike, I also agree your post is great. My worst enemy is my lack of will power and if I am able practice what you say, it will really help me going forwards.
Yes TTL, a huge round of applause to you and for your kind and inclusive daily posts and all the organizational work. I really enjoy being part of the monthly challenge and appreciate the efforts you and Upa have both put in.
Well Hi AH, I thought I had done my last post until Sat morning but feel I must respond to your questions. Firstly re the golf course I am playing for birthday – hope this isn’t free advertising for them but, – it’s Archerfield between Gullane and North Berwick – a high end of market club which up to last year hosted the Scottish Ladies Open. It has two quality courses – The Fidra which is part links/pine forest and the Dirleton links (husband and myself are playing both). Although a private members club it is open to visitors to play and stay over in their sumptuous suites in an old mansion house. BTW – there are many fabulous courses around Edinburgh where I live but the houses do outnumber the courses just a tad!!
How strange is this – just today before your post I downloaded Myfitnesspal! Just getting my head around it – seems quite a powerful tool – time will tell – but I will certainly be looking into regarding customising for figuring out my calories burned per golf round!
Are you ready for this? A full Scottish breakfast entails : starter of porridge (traditionally made with full cream milk) – you can have fresh fruit to add to this; next course is choice of – my favourite, Kippers (smoked herring – very salty but delish however will repeat on you all day!), Kedgeree or Smoked Salmon; Next course is what we call ‘the Fry-Up’, but hotels grill some of the contents : eggs done however you like (poached, coddled, scrambled … or, at worse fried!), pork sausages, bacon, black pudding (yum, my favourite), haggis, potato scone, mushrooms, fried tomato, baked beans, toast. The only sheep involved is in the contents of the haggis (which is mainly minced lamb’s offal (lungs, heart, liver), oatmeal, onion and spices cooked traditionally in a sheep’s stomach – sounds disgusting and is an acquired taste. There are other additions which can be had but these are the basics. This can be followed by a fourth course of the ‘Auld Alliance’ of French croissants with Scottish Heather Honey. Let’s both put that lot into Myfitnesspal and see what huge amounts of calories we come up with! Think might need more than a hilly golf round, carrying clubs to burn that lot off!!
Have you ever been to Scotland? I’ve never been to New Zealand but believe there are many connections!
Thanks again for your many informative and insightful posts. Also, very well done on your huge weight ‘reduction’ so far. Full RESPECT for your self discipline – not many of us ladies could do alternate day fasting – You are an inspiration to us all!
Keeeep Loooosing!!
Up
I’ve been hiding but I’m still here. I am really hoping not to add anything negative for the month but I won’t be contributing to the loss. I’ve been sticking to the two-fasts-a-week program perfectly but I’ve been overeating too much on the other days, I guess, because I’m up four pounds from where I started the month. Hoping to get a couple of those off by the end of the week by eating sane portions and avoiding sugar on the non-fast days.
Hello all, well done on successfully completing another month on this wol. 🙂 I have another pound for lardy lad. That makes 5lb in July, 15 in total, making me 11st 7.5lbs. Goal is 10st, so a few months left!! I’m assuming I won’t shift any more this month, but you never know. I have loved being part of this group, thank you TTL for leading, and look forward to August. 🙂 xxx
