Hi Femme
Worth trying, works for me. Where in France are you, been there long?

Ok, it’s been ages since I’ve checked in. Sadly, I had a small gain in the first week of July, 0.3 kg. I feel like that dismal effort kicked me into gear and this week despite having taken the kids on holiday to the Sunshine Coast, I have been super good. I haven’t gone over 1200 cals at all, despite the fish and chip shop being only a few meters away. The trip to the ice cream shop was pretty torturous and watching my mother in law pouring another glass of wine, while I sipped my chamomile tea was just SAD. However, when I step on those scales on Saturday morning, stark naked, having taken my watch off and had a pee first of course, I will be rewarded….or I’m raiding the chocolate drawer in the fridge (just kidding…hopefully).
Enjoy your week ladies and gents and good luck to all of us and our weigh ins!
Successfully completed my fast day on Monday and now on my second today. So far only coffee and a small cup of veggie broth, then out for my run. After my run I will have a small banana then I will see what’s what for the end of the day.
Definitely things are easier without all the alcohol temptation that comes from being at live music every night. I am off to Quebec City on Friday for another music festival for 3 days – it will be a little easier to resist there as all the concerts are in outdoor venues and there is no alcohol allowed. (although in Montreal during the Jazz Fest, for the outdoor venues there are vendors going through the crowds selling Heineken, who is a huge sponsor. Only in Montreal 🙂 ) When I return and get back to the ugly reality of work, I will be joining AH and Milena in the pledge.
Happy anniversary Milena, congrats to you and your partner. Have a great day all, and strength to all today’s fasters.
Hi all. My 2nd fast day of the week. Just enjoyed a smoked salmon salad. Will be doing my first exercise class on a fast day later. Have a banana in my 500 Cals to give me strength beforehand. Hope I’m one of those fasters who thrive on exercise. Im such a couch potato! Ive ordered a misfit shine to inspire me to increase my daily steps. Also went to a ceroc dance evening last night. Haven’t been for 4 years and it was so much fun. Hopefully soon I’ll be able to dance for a couple of hours without melting into a pool of sweat. Thanks for all your posts. They help keep me going on the fast days. Hugs to all and think of the fat literally melting off. I’m hoping for another kg this week. But anything is great x x
Good evening to All, Ed here (Herewego15),
Beginning to get up to speed with all the great blogs. I am learning a lot about discipline, weight loss, calories, bad habits etc etc.
Well TTL I have seemingly managed to lose 2 lbs in my first week. My scales are finally getting used to being used so much so there will be a settling in period no doubt (can us men use water retention as an excuse? please?)
What a great forum with a truly global input (crowdsourcing at its best). I wonder where we have not reached yet?
My biggest learning curve is the discipline to establish a clear and simple routine without getting too fazed by all the possible opportunities of reading books, downloading calorie tracker apps, perusing more blogs and anything else that can be distracted by.
Well it is great to be an honorary alpha male and you are all keeping me on the right track so many thanks.
Looking forward to a lovely hot weekend (i mean the weather….not the other kind sadly).
For now…. keep smiling.
Hi. Femme
Lovely part of France, think we are planning to go through there next month, although don has put spanner in the works, having broken hand operated on within six weeks, we now need to wait and see
No fast today, sorry Mike, answered the call, two large glasses of savingnon Blanc and just opened the champagne. Wondering if I can drink five glasses in an hour?
So far, gain 4lb by 3nd July, lost 4 lbs by this morning, think it’s all back on by tomorrow. Bit like the scene in Jurrassic Park, ‘were BACK in the car!’
Btw, New Jurrassic film – brilliant!!!!
Anyway, from tomorrow back in harness. Hope y’all doing better than I!
Good morning, ladies and Alpha males! Just a quick mid- week check in.
I am loving doing 19:5 all week, and staying very low carb still. I did make steak salads Tuesday with homemade French fries included, but that was my only indulgence.
Guys at work ordered pizza yesterday, which I usually fall face down into, but I didn’t! Just popped another piece of cinnamon gum and set to my inventory project. Mind over matter, right?!
So, I think this week will be a great one, as they seem to do that anyways. Looking forward to sloughing off another few lbs before I hit the beach in 10 days!
I am loving this thread. Feels like a virtual slimming club. Becoming competitive too!
I was doing well but snaffled some truly amazing chocolate brownies today. There was no need, hate how I can justify it to myself at the time only to be full of self loathing after. I’m like “hey I haven’t seen my friend for a while so must be time for brownies” must retrain brain to associate social treats with berries.
Loving all the Jazz festival talk. I play sax and have a fest end of August, how nice would it be to feel slimmer on stage….gotta keep visualising it.
Strength and nutrition to you all 🙂
Hi Milena, Sorry to hear of your husband’s injury and op. Unfortunstrly, we normally go to my dsughter’s in August, or we could have arranged to meet. Let me know when you are coming and maybe it will be possible to get together,.
4 lbs gain 3rd July and off again by 8th. When I indulge at a lunch out it takes me ages to lose the gain.
For me it is just not worth it. Hope you are having a good day today.
Hi Femme, what a great idea! Will let you know how we get on, all depends on the boy. Luckily nothing booked, and we have a window from mid August to 8th September.
Im used to gaining whenever I socialise, but it comes off fairly easily, so I dont worry anymore, as long as the trend is down. Blue, as long as they were amazing, enjoy, life is too short for bad wine and second-rate food, counter balance with a walk or extra fast. Never feel guilty about something wonderful!
Speaking of wonderful, the curry sounds great, pink – enjoy!!
Hi all. Pink dodo – that curry sounds great. I’m going to have to try the cauliflower rice at some point.
I managed my fit steps class but was pretty flat afterwards. Had my planned egg on marmite toast but there was a little homemade biscuit temptation. Still under 600 Cals for the day so another successful fast day. Weighing in tomorrow. Trying to keep the scales to once a week so I dont get discouraged. Good luck to everyone for the fast days and weigh ins. Will let u know progress tmrw x x
Hi, all,
I had a gain of one pound in the first week of July, but then I lost it and another pound so I’m down one for July. Now off on a vacation for a week, and my goal is to maintain until I get back, and then work on the next four. (P.S. Total is 19 lbs so far since the end of April. Happy camper.)
Hi all,
I am new to this 5:2 thing having started on 30 June. Weight loss so far is 2lb. I am thrilled as I usually run to control my weight but an injury 8 weeks ago has had me off running and the weight was piling on. I have also had the ‘flu and so am more sedentary than usual. So the fact that I have *lost* weight in recent weeks is a big thing for me. Also, I am really not one of those people who loses weight easily. I have had my thyroid removed and have struggled since then with my weight. Even losing a pound is usually very hard for me.
I really enjoyed reading your posts and have decided to jump on board to keep my motivation up and know that there are others struggling along with me!
Hi Guys and Gals, greetings from a very cold New Zealand, middle of winter here and lots of snow on the mountains with the ski season in full swing. It means time at gym and on home exercise machines is an effort but I’m managing a session a day so all still going to plan.
It’s Friday afternoon as I write this so the week has been positive and I’m hoping for a second good reduction for the efforts put in. I’m basically doing alternate day fasting (7 fast days per 2 weeks) for this first month of July plus a 20 minute daily exercise session. On a fast day with exercise calories calculated means a net calorie intake of 400 to 450. It feels tough some days after exercise but I’m sure I will benefit at the end of July. From August I plan to revert to 5:2 fasting to continue until Christmas until I reach my 78kg goal weight, a planned total reduction of over 15kgs (33lbs)
Take care everyone and continue to be strong and positive on your journey to your new you, think about all the good comments when your friends see you next time after the weight has disappeared and the new clothes fit again. Weigh in on Sunday and don’t forget there’s a chocolate fish at stake. Onwards and Downwards…..
Fast day today. Strawberries for breakfast and coffee mid morning which normally would have taken me through to dinner but I cracked early afternoon and had a bowl of oats. I’ve only got 90 calories to play with for the rest of the day. I think it will be an early night for me tonight! My TDEE is 1600 cals, so I should be on 400 cals per fast day.
Quick question, if I do an exercise class on a fast day can I earn any extra calories or do I just have to suck it up and plan my day’s eating better? Thanks. My weigh in day is tomorrow. It’s keeping me motivated to stay on track today.
Ps. I’m so fancying that cauliflower rice and curry now!!
Hi Guys and Gals, me again, just made a nice coffee so thought I might put my Coaching Hat on for you lot while you are sleeping up there in the North.
In my other life I’m a Business Coach and I work with Business Owners in their businesses helping make improvements in everything they do. One thing we focus on is “Language” and taking out negativity in how we speak/write and communicate in general.
This Forun is a classic example how to make life easier by changing a couple of things in our lives by changing our communication style.
Many of us talk about “weight loss” and how to “lose weight”. If we all replaced these couple of little words and replace them with “reduce” and “reduction” then that little voice in your head will react differently.
Everyones subconscious mind is programmed not to lose things. Think about how hard it would be if you tried to consciously “lose your car keys”. Your mind would tell you not to be so stupid, you don’t want to really lose your car keys, do you?
Could it be the same when we tell ourselves we want to “lose some weight”. What does that little voice say to you when we think that? Remember your subconsious mind is programmed not to lose stuff, we have all been told from the time we were a child, “don’t lose your….(whatever)”
Soooo, if you can replace that “lose” word when you are planning or talking about your weight and start saying “my weekly goal is to REDUCE my weight by XXX” you won’t be fighting your subconscious mind and that little voice in your head telling you not to be so stupid because you don’t lose stuff really, do you….
Let me know your thoughts, get into the habit of using different words (21 days to break a habit) and you will remove one little barrier in making your goals come true.
Hope this has been helpful to some..
Cheers, Mike
PS: Another negative word we all use is the word BUT, relace it with AND then see how your communications change for the better.
Hi Amella, as a general rule, you’re not supposed to add any calories on fast days because of exercise, as your body needs to get to fat burning and reparation mode and it can’t if you keep upping the cals throughout the day. But (or AND) you are I believe “allowed” to have 500 cals no matter what your TDEE – if you want. Some women have 600, and some people just do water fast. An extra 200 cals a week won’t make TOO much difference in the short term if it’s easier to manage, after all fasting is supposed to be a long term way of life, so whatever gets you through! Xxx
Thanks Pink. I just thought fast calls had to be a quarter of daily TDEE but if all women can have 500 cals, that’s great! I agree it is a way of life, I’m still learning (and struggling a little) to incorporate it into my routine. I’m sure I’ll get there!
Action Hero, I loved your post and will work on REDUCING my weight and my negative phrasing. I had a friend who would make you say something positive about yourself for every time she heard you say anything negative. No talking “smack” about yourself she would say.
Just a thought for a cyber award, then see what others suggest.
Everyone “donate” a dollar for each pound they lose each week (maybe open a paypal account, or a funding source account?). Then whoever is the biggest loser that week (or month?), either gets the pot or gets half and donate half to their choice of charity?
Just brainstorming here!
Hi all
TTL. My weight “reduction” for this week is 0.2 kg or 0.5 lbs. that makes it a total of 1.1kg or 2.5 lbs for the month so far. I think this is a retention blip. I will keep an eye on the scales next week ready to tweak my normal days if the same thing happens. I’ve been getting used to bring a kilo lighter every week so far and it has been very motivating.
My misfit shine arrived yesterday. I was worried my normal days would be less than 2000 steps. So I was pleasantly surprised to have done nearly 6000 so far today. Looking forward to increasing the fitness. Hope all weigh ins gain us a feeling of lightness with the weight transferred to Lardy lad. Speak to u all next week. Ruthy x
Hi TTL, thanks for all the positive thoughts, you and I are in a very similar spot. My weight this AM was 140 on the button, I’ve lost 3 lbs so far this week, which is brilliant. I don’t post very much, but rest assured I’m reading everything and I’m loving this thread. I can’t wait to join you next week back in the 9 stones + place, I haven’t been there in 3 years, since my daughters wedding, and I promised myself then that I wouldn’t go back to the 140’s but I didn’t really have a strategy, now I feel I do. I might not have mentioned before that I live in Savannah, GA, but I’m originally from the Liverpool area, so I love the international presence here.
Action Hero, you’re freezing and I’m roasting! Going to be 96+ this weekend in the southern U.S. So trying to ignore the cool beer is going to be the challenge this weekend, but you guys have strengthened my resolve. Thanks for the positive reinforcement everybody, stay focused.
Diz
Anyone else finding this 5:2 lark is affecting their memory – or it is just old age?
Bloody dangerous anyway – nowadays I rarely feed my men – I refuse to cook meals when I’m not eating – hand feeding my ill cat had had its moments – when feeding roast chicken its only the calories I worry about but the cat food is another matter.
Today I put oil in the frying pan for son’s fishcakes, then decided it was better to oven cook them – good to see the 5:2 habits kicking in – of course 15 minutes later the smoke alarm went off – fortunately there was only a wee bit of oil in the pan, obviously there had been a fire, it destroyed the pan but other than a smoke filled kitchen (by smoke filled – couldn’t see a thing, smoke pouring out when the windows and door was opened, drew a crowd!).
Might be old age – just asked son if he had seen the deodorant advert where the ordinary looking men dance again the good looking ones. Apparently he was with me when I saw it in the cinema the other night!
And I’m now off to look for the keys to the Lotus – apparently I had them last!
Did well yesterday until I went to the Antiques Centre at Abernyte – the chef had specially made pistachio cupcakes, after I complimented her on a traybake she had made for an event maybe nine months ago. All the cafe staff were delighted I’d popped in, she had been asking for me all morning, and of course they needed a verdict = rather nice.
Did really well today until OH asked me to get him a chicken bake from Greggs – bought two. Don’t think I’ve had a greggs pastie for 10 years -why today then?
What’s the booby prize BTW?
Drum roll please…..2.4 pound loss this week!! Hooray!
So, for July so far
Week 1. 126.5 lbs GAIN = 127.4 lbs
Week 2. 127.4 lbs LOSS = 125 lbs
So, I can contribute 1.5 lbs to Lard Lad.
Feeling so great now after having a bit of a struggle day yesterday.
I just love reading everyone’s posts. I find it so fascinating that even though we are spread across the globe and all have our differences we have an interest in common. I don’t talk about my fast diet to anyone at home, so it’s so nice to be able to compare stories, tips and struggles with other ladies..and gents. You are all so inspiring. Ps. Good to hear about everyone’s slip ups too! Makes me feel human.
If I am to avoid gaining/staying the same I really need a good fast day today to make up for FOUR over-indulgent days. Tuesday I was at a social golf event which was followed by the traditional “Strawberry Tea” of white wine, sandwiches, cakes, strawberries with thick double vanilla cream, coffee followed by … more white wine. Wednesday and Thursday OH and myself attended the Scottish Open Golf Championships at Gullane (eat your heart out Mike!) Each day started with a bacon roll then later a picnic of sandwiches, quiche and chicken legs. Usually my picnics are legendary but tried to keep things modest with lean sandwich fillings, no bottle of wine, crisps, biscuits, cakes. However later when I counted the calories, horrified I had consumed way over my TDEE of 1500 Cals (bread accounted for most of that plus the ice cream I couldn’t resist when I saw the van!) Yesterday I intended as a fast day and did well until I sat down to watch Andy Murray’s semi – out came the bottle of wine – and it was finished by the end of the (short) match. Wasnt Federer supreme? Andy played well but Fed just served so well and his groundstrokes were stunning – I am not a Fed fan but he deserved his win. Anyway, decided what the heck, I’ve blown this fast day, so instead of having cauliflower rice for dinner I made it into cauliflower cheese which I teamed up with breaded! chicken and corn on cob. Thirdtime, I need a cyber slap on my fat bum!!
Even though technically my weigh in day is tomorrow, I stepped on today to make sure it was heading down (which I felt it was anyways), and am down 1.6 lbs. So put that down for my contribution this week. I think the guys are gonna crush me! But this is the kind of race where you don’t really mind not being first, cause you still get a pretty cool prize!
No more reduction for me. I did succumb to fish and chips on a school trip yesterday so I suppose I should be pleased! Just the one pound this week then, total 1lb for July, 11lb in total, now at 11st 11.5lbs. My new goal is to get to the stone mark in total (14lbs)! Going to be so good for the rest of the month!! Well done everyone else.Xxx
Wow i go away for 3 weeks and now i see so many new people thats fantastic and some great losses! Well i gained 5 pounds on my trip i know i need a smack on the wrist but i did have a fabulous time. So came home sunday night very jet lagged and now feeling more like myself as far as the tiredness but confess to not following the plan all week as i had to go to a couple of birthday dinners etc but i did weigh myself Friday morning and i am down 1.5 pounds so by monday hoping to be down a little more. Probably water retention but hey i will take it. I have another function to attend tonight so i will try to behave so hard when the food is laid on for you.
It’s gorgeous weather here i’m in Ontario Canada for those who don’t know was 30 c yesterday felt hotter with the humidity going to be another scorcher today. Well have a fun weekend and happy fasting !
Hi TTL, reporting in for the week, Sunday morning weigh in and it’s a nice 2.3kg (5lbs) reduction for the week making 4.0kgs (8.8lbs) for the month so I’m more than happy with this.
It’s been a very focussed month so far, I have stuck with alternate day fasting with regular daily exercise, mostly 20-30 minute sessions on a Treadmill plus a weekly game of golf which represents a 6km walk so all going well.
Last evening I had my first “craving” for a decent meal with a good steak with stir fries and green beans in garlic and feta. It hit the spot nicely and satisfied the cravings so back to my proper fast day today.
Well done everyone on what I have seen so far this week with good reported weight reductions, keep up the great work and remember we are all amazing people with the attitudes that will change our lives. Take care all, Mike
Hello Everyone!! things are going great and not so great!! lol after 2 fast days i lost 3.5kg down to 85.5kg but since the weekend I am not so sure and today being a week since i started i think i will let you know my proper week 1 weight loss tomorrow!! (I did not weigh myself after the weekend)
Everyone is doing amazing! And i can feel that i am not so hungry on my non-fast days but having a 4 day break between fasts (i fast monday and wednesday)I feel like by the time sunday comes I am back to normal eating large portions. So this week I am going to try and do 3 fast days, maybe putting one in on Friday or Saturday, or at least do a half fast day so i stay used to smaller portions.
I will put an official update tomorrow 😀
I’m fasting today too. I suffer from headaches usually, and today sadly I woke up with one, which means it’s only going to get worse. I’ve already drunk so much water, I’m peeing on the hour every hour! Any one have any tips if you also suffer? I’ve heard magnesium is good too so have been knocking that back! Today’s food is mainly snacky at lunch today, apple, babybel, miso soup, French fries crisps, then I’m having a quorn sausage sandwich tonight with loads of brown sauce and salad. Usually so much healthier but today I just fancied all of these things! I’m already excited!
pinkdodo, I read (and tried successfully) drinking 2 bottles of Gatorade. Supposedly, you need the electrolytes as well as the water?
Anyway, I had a battle of wills with a piece of chocolate birthday cake yesterday and all of last night..and I won! I kept thinking, that cake doesn’t have intelligence and power…YOU do! You have the power to just walk away. Remember when you had that new dress on today at the party, and everyone was just floored at how good you looked in it? Doesn’t that feel better than that piece of cake will taste?
It was so hard but I did it! 5 day count down to the beach, and I will get to 150! Only 1.4 lbs to go!
Great work on the weekend, guys! Also, I have to keep reminding my daughter not to weigh herself every day or she will get discouraged by the scale going up and down so much. She said it keeps her in line when she sees the gain, that she is more motivated to do better. I guess whatever works for her. She is down since she started IF.
Weekly weigh-in for me today. Result down 1 pound, which would normally be ok but given I was up 2 pounds last week this represents a 1 pound nett gain for July so far! Having a good fast so far today having had liquids only and will have trout fillet with stir-fry veg for dinner within the next hour. Looking forward to comparing notes with Thirdtime and Kate Eve when we meet up tomorrow!
Mike 5 pounds loss in one week is amazing – well done, you are definitely on track for the monthly prize! Fit congrats on avoiding the chocolate cake. Pink hope your headache is gone – you are doing right by drinking plenty water (peeing every hour is a sign of good hydration), however not so sure about these French Fries crisps, brown sauce and bread sandwich on a fast day!
I started last Tuesday at 136. This morning 134.2, so another 1.8 to add to Lardy Lad. I have found that bieing on this challenge has really helped me, in that when I think of maybe having something extra to what I have planned, I stop myself indulging and think of the Challenge, and it has worked!!! I have had a really good week and plan to have another successful one this week. Happy fasting everyone.
Some bad news for me yesterday. I injured my foot a few weeks ago…it was swelling a bit and hurt so went to podiatrist. He did an Ray and thought he saw a fracture on the ball of my foot area but wanted an Mir. Well it turns out not to be a fracture. It is a completely torn through tendon! So it looks like no more running or Zumba for me, and surgery in my future. Really bummed.
But I won’t let it sidetrack my fasting.
