  • I’m curious to know about lowering LDL Cholesterol in women. My LDL levels are +160(US) though my HDLs are very high and my Triglycerides are quite low. My goal with this eating plan is not the weight loss though a few lbs and/or some measurement changes would be a bonus. Today is a fast day for me. This is week 2 and my second fast day this week.
I don’t weigh myself until Monday but I lost 1% of body fat according to my scale this week. Not sure if that’s just a +/- thing with my scale though. Too soon to tell. I am 63 years old and in decent shape and wish to stay that way for a long time. So if anyone has any info re: women and lowering cholesterol, I’d love to hear about it.
This is so new to me that it’s hard to really know what’s up…I do know that giving my gastro system a break feels good though today I’m hungrier than usual. Next meal is coming soon enough. I get quite a lot done distracting myself from my hunger. That’s certainly a positive thing!

Molly- I don’t know if this is accurate info, or not. Weight lifting uses up some of the cholesterol by using it to rebuild muscle after the stress lifting causes. Going to give it a try. We’ll see.

I will have my cholesterol re-checked in April. That will give me around 12 weeks doing the 5:2. I’m very curious about the result. A friend who has been doing this recently had her cholesterol checked and it went up! I don’t know the specifics but that was not very good news. She had a high cholesterol to begin with and now it is higher. I’ll post the details when I know more.

    Hi and welcome:

Usually when you lose weight your cholesterol will decline. After losing a lot of weight, it will go up, and decline again after weight loss stops.

Recent research indicates all cholesterol is good, and cholesterol levels after age 50 are meaningless: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRe9z32NZHY

    Good Luck!
