In keeping with the season (and purloined from an Aussie site, Starts at 60):
Three men die on Christmas Eve and go to heaven.
Before they’re allowed to enter the gates, they’re greeted by Saint Peter. He tells them there are rules before he allows them into heaven.
“In order to get in to heaven you must each produce something that represents Christmas and the holiday season.”
The first man digs deep into his pockets and pulls out a match. He lights it.
“This is to represent a candle of hope,” he says.
Impressed, Peter lets him in.
The second man pulls out a set of keys and shakes them in Peter’s face.
“This represents the sound of Christmas bells,” he says.
Peter also allows him to enter.
When it’s the third man’s turn, he pulls out a pair of red panties.
“And what exactly do they have to do with Christmas?” Peter asks.
“Oh,” the man replies. “They’re Carol’s.”
Morning/evening all,
Merry Christmas.
I’ve opened my presents and I think my friends are trying to tell me something,
A gin making kit.
G&T scented candle.
G&T lip balm.
A bottle of craft gin.
Gin cocktails recipe book.
Oh yes, and a vase and a pack of chilli chocolate penguins………..🤣🤣🤣
Have a good one everybody 🎄😜🍸
Happy,
You are too young for old lady skin so I’m guessing your nearest and dearest are suggesting a pre-emptive strike 😉
It’s the first time for many years I’ve not received any bubble bath/shower gel/body lotion at Christmas so I now need to go shopping as I got so used to receive so many fabulous body care products that I stopped buying them at this time of year 😆
The rolled, stuffed turkey thigh was a success and I’m looking forward to the leftovers tonight.
Lots of Christmas pud and rum sauce left too….
Have a good one everybody 😜
Well it was leftovers here yesterday too. Tastier the second time round I think!
I’ve not seen turkey thighs without the turkey. That sounds like a great idea – lots left over from all those turkey crowns!! I’ll have to investigate for next year as any other roast isn’t quite the same on Christmas day.
Morning/evening all,
Happy,
I love turkey but even a small one is far too much for me. Turkey crowns are OK but the flavour of leg meat is too good to miss.
The turkey thigh weighed 600g before I removed the bone and would easily feed 3-4 people. It needed to be cut into thick slices to prevent the stuffing falling out but that wasn’t a problem, in fact it could be served on one very thick slice as a portion and would look good on the plate.
I used my usual chestnut and apple stuffing which also contains onion and sausagemeat and it was perfect.
I don’t have an issue with leftovers as they get used in batches of curry, chilli etc and frozen.
I’m making a sprout and leek gratin today.
And I may venture out into the world after 3 very enjoyable and relaxing days at home 😀
Have a good one everybody 😜
Amazon,
I haven’t travelled far this Christmas, but have managed to catch up with various friends and family for coffee/ lunches/ a natter.
The problem with visiting is being plied with food and alcohol (everyone I know appears to have massively overestimated how much food they needed) and then being sent home with a doggy bag of goodies!
It’s foggy here today, but I shall have to go out for some exercise… it’s that or stay home and eat cake!
Jo,
I’ve done well on the leftovers front. The only perishables left are some gammon and some cream. The gammon will keep for another few days which is good as I am intending to fast again tomorrow and I’m going out for a very special lunch on Sunday 😀
The cream will be used on Monday if it passes the sniff test. If not, it’ll be the only thing wasted which is an excellent result.
I don’t have anyone else to feed which can be tricky but advance planning helped. I made mini Christmas puddings and bought small amounts of everything (apart from wine 😉 ) and it has worked out well.
I’ve also discovered that I cannot eat anywhere near as much as I used to pack away without a second thought which is a blessing.
Greetings and salutations, all my dear fellow fasters. May 2019 bring you the fulfillment of your wishes, prosperity and health. We are currently enjoying the hospitality of our son and his family, enjoying 30 degree heat, and this afternoon baby sitting the two grandchildren while the parents enjoy the freedom to get to a New Year rave. Last night we watched the 9pm fireworks from the lounge of a harbour-side mansion, after ducking inside from the pool during the 7pm thunderstorm and downpour.
Then tomorrow we are off up country to the Gold Coast, dropping in for social time with P and Mr P en route.
When are you hitting NZ shores, Jo?
Morning/evening all,
Happy New Year to all and let’s hope 2019 it a good one not just for us but for everyone everywhere.
I’ve been busy socialising, I went out walking with my best friend on Friday, met the lovely Wiwi and her man for lunch on Sunday and yesterday met up with another friend for a nice walk in a deserted Kew Gardens.
I went to bed at 11.30 last night as there’s no point seeing in the New Year on your own (not self pity but fact) and I wanted to be up at 3am to watch Andy Murray play in Brisbane. I’m very pleased I got up as he has made a promising start to the season.
Having had a busy few days leading up to New Year I’m content to be relaxing at home today, watching tennis and maybe catching up with a few people by phone/facetime and possibly seeing a friend who came home yesterday from two weeks away.
Fasting at the end of last week didn’t work out as my willpower appears to be on an extended Christmas break 😉
Having said that, the trousers of truth still have room at the waist so the damage appears to be minimal 😀
I shall start again tomorrow, full of carbs, sugar, alcohol and enthusiasm 😆
Have a good one everybody 😜
Happy New Year All!
Christmas and NY unexpectedly turned into a mad social whirl. Very nice to catch up with so many people, but far too much food!
I’m now back at work, so no pretending it’s still Christmas… I’m trying to bolster my resolve to fast today. It’s been a very long while since I’ve needed to, but I’m 2kg up!! 🐷🐷🐷🐷
Morning/evening everyone,
My socialising has finally come to an end and today is my first FD of the year, a day later than originally planned but I’m the queen of B2B 😉 so all will be well.
I bought a fair amount of fruit before Christmas and by yesterday most of it was still sitting there waiting to be eaten. I’ve made a big fruit salad so my FD menu for the next 2 days will be fruitarian which made me think of my first ever FD when I had just eaten a huge bowl of fruit with yoghurt while reading the Fast Diet book and decided to start immediately and ended up eating lettuce and tomatoes for my dinner 😆
Happy,
Glad to hear you had a great time over the festive season after a somewhat tough year. I hope all is well with you and that your new job turns out to be everything you want it to be.
As for the 2kg, a few good fasts and you’ll be back to fighting weight!
I’ve been having a lot of problems with my hip which necessitated no exercise, heat packs and anti-inflammatories/analgesics. I’ve been able to walk but anything else has aggravated it and it has been a real nuisance ☹
It has finally settled down and I’m hoping to return to the gym (which I’m really missing) next week. I thought about going today but have decided to err on the side of caution and give it a few more days.
Purple,
I suffer really badly with being cold on FDs and my main aim today is to keep warm especially as it is only 3C here at the moment and forecast to go down to -4C tonight 😱
Time to get moving,
Have a good one everybody 😜
So it’s my first FD since before Christmas, and the first day since then that I’ve not consumed alcohol, bread and/or cake, Christmas pudding, mince pies, chocolates etc.
I thought it would be really difficult but so far so good and having got to this time of day I know it’s a successful FD.
Same again tomorrow 😀
17 hours to Perth sounds fab. Last time I went I had a 5 hour plus wait in Hong Kong so it was over 24 hours in total. Next time I go to Australia I’m going to plan it so that I arrive and depart in Perth.
Usually a minimum 23 hour trip Sydney to London (and then return!) for me. Mind you, it’s a lot of extra money, doing a single hop to Perth, to cut out a few hours. I find I just get “in the zone”. As a friend points out, it beats the 6 week ocean trip it was for our grandparents 😊
30 hours Sydney to Boston was the one I found a killer 😐
Funny how used to fasting we are now, Amazon. 😊 The scales gave me a reward this morning after yesterday’s fast. It works! 😂😂 P
Amazon, ditto! I had a few walnuts at about 4.30, but before that I was so busy with work I didn’t have time to think about being hungry.
It’s certainly a relief not to eat any added sugar and hopefully break that craving!
I’m not holding out for a massive result on the scales on the back of one day, but a little drop would be nice 😊
Happy travelling Jo!
Just emerging after a night slept NZ hours and functioning.
It’s a rude awakening as I am doing taxes for OH which requires a clear head.
The UV scale is at such an extreme here, that my poor European- influenced organism needs to stay in the shade for at least another day.
A few thoughts about long haul flights- I really like the London-Hong Kong- NZ route, even if on the flight to NZ there was the 4 hour stop in Hong Kong. It’s two 11 hour flights, which are not too daunting. The direct Perth flight is 16 or 17 hours, and that is just too many hours of sitting in the plane. To get to Wellington from Perth is another 10 hours, so you haven’t gained much except a helluva long plane journey.
We went London-Dubai-Perth last year and the combined time was only an hour longer than the direct flight. I reckon that the airlines are competing for the LONGEST non-stop flight at present for the prestige, and for me, it’s not worth it.
My philosophy is that it’s time stopping while flying and it’s not worth trying to influence circumstances outside our control.
It’s so much faster than when we travelled with very small children. My oldest daughter as a baby screamed from Karachi to Hong Kong on one flight as she was not well. That was one leg on the France to NZ trip. I remember 40 hour trips!
Even that was better than those sea voyages, you mentioned, Purple.
I am still too jet lagged to fast today, but tomorrow the ADF takes off again.
It was great to meet up with Amazon. We really do know each other quite well, don’t we? on this thread and meeting up requires no getting to know each other time.
Here endeth the lesson.
xx Wiwi
Hi Wiwi,
Glad to hear you’ve arrived safe and sound, and you are absolutely right about us knowing each other quite well without having met face to face. It’s great 😀
Happy,
I have twice had to talk myself out of eating anything since my previous post, and it’s craving rather than hunger.
I’m nursing a mug of hot tea with a splash of milk which is doing double duty, quelling the cravings and warming my hands.
It’s chilly this evening, brrrr!!!!!!
I’ve not been on the scales since before Christmas and am in no rush to see the numbers as my clothes tell me everything I need to know.
Welcome home Wi. 😊
I agree, we all know each other so well, conversation just flows when we meet up in person.
We enjoyed a very pleasant catchup lunch with Barata and her OH this week. No breaks in the chatter, even between the “boys”! 😉 Thanks B.
I hope the weather is being kind to you up north. It has cooled down here at last, at least in the evenings.
Wi, I never stand in the sunlight during summer. It causes far too much skin damage to our inappropriate complexions.
😏 P
Belated Happy New Year to you all.
I’ve been hovering in the background, reading but not contributing as it’s been so busy.
Finished the first few days back at work and now for a relaxing weekend, having 2 of the grandies stay over night tonight so they’re coming out to tea with us at the local pub.
I gained just a little over the Christmas/New Year season and am happy to report that it’s all come back off these last few days after the celebrations finished.
Looking forward to removing quite a bit more this year 😀
Glad everyone is okay and that the travellers had/have safe travels.
Chat more another time (so much to do still now that work’s back in full swing).
Cheers,
AO
Morning/evening all,
A cold but bright and sunny morning here.
I got through my FD yesterday with the aid of a spoonful of peanut butter and am looking forward to an easier day today (fingers crossed)
Hi AO,
Well done on getting rid of the Christmas excess. Onwards and downwards 😀
Have a good one everybody 😜
Morning/evening all,
Jo,
Take the time for a drive to Fremantle, it’s not far and merits a look, and if you are self catering a walk round the market will be worth it.
If your husband is still under the weather you can cheer him up with a visit to the Little Creatures brewery and buy him a beer and some lunch. It’s a fab place.
Kings Park is my favourite place in Perth, it is beautiful 😀
Have a good one everybody 😜
Hi everyone,
FD today and all is well so far which is a good thing as I lost the plot over the weekend and ate so much I’m sure I undid all the good work achieved by last weeks FDs.
I had a really nice walk this morning and timed it perfectly as the sky has darkened and the wind picked up since I got home.
I’m trying out a Hugh F-W recipe from his Much More Veg book, a red cabbage, celeriac and apple stew which looks and smells good. Roll on dinner time.
Have a good one everybody 😜
Hi Purple,
It is a follow-up to his veg book but there is a huge difference in that he hasn’t used eggs or dairy and there’s no refined flours, bread, pasta or noodles either.
I’ve only tried a few of the recipes but have enjoyed everything so far, and I have a list of must try dishes.
The recipes all have a list of ingredient swaps which is very useful unless it says “if you don’t like fennel use celery” the only two vegetables I don’t like 🤣
Well I’m going to be fasting tomorrow. Today just didn’t feel right. I finally succumbed to the head cold that’s been threatening since Boxing Day, and slept really poorly last night. Being tired and feeling a bit rubbish is just not conducive to fasting. At least I managed to avoid added sugar at the weekend, so that’s something 😊
