  • Hi Jo
We went on the TSS Earnslaw, a lovely old steam boat, when we were in Queenstown a few years ago. We also did an eco cruise at Milford Sound. Lovely stunning country. P

Ah, the white van drivers! Agree with you on that one, Jo. And the commercials on tv, which is why we pay to have MySky, where we can record and fast-forward (and replay when the old ears didn’t catch some of the words 🙂 )

Hope it is fine for you tomorrow. The only time we have been to Milford Sound, it was wet and cloudy, no view.

Sun out now, lake at Te Anau is gorgeous.

Bought a nice meditteranian salad for dinner, now decision- red salmon or boiled eggs?

    Morning/evening all

At 2°C it is 5° warmer than yesterday. For the first time I don’t know how long the South East was the coldest part of the UK with temperatires as high as 13 in parts of Scotland.

And as I type the 🌞 has just put in an appearance 😎

Pet hates are just personal dislikes and not real hatred (apart from celery 😉 )

I’m glued to the sofa watching tennis 🙂

Have a good one everybody 😜

Well I got what I wanted the Federer and Nadal Australian Open Mens Final while the Williams sisters battle out the Womans which would be a tricky situation on the court and bugger all at home using the resources on this site is always a pleasure this little gem is no different.

Definately in the Federer corner on Sunday.!!
    Peace Love & Happiness

    Good Day Guys,
How Kiwi do I sound? Just arrived back from Milford. Incredible journey there and back, the road is stunning, lots of interesting sites, TrueLy breathtaking scenery. I took about 200 photos today but quite a bit of editing may be required. Might end up with 30.
The weather was truely amazing sunny, hot and clear skies but we took fleeces and waterproofs because we were warned it would be cold on board. We were the only ones on deck as the Sound is like a wind tunnel when you are heading out to sea. Most of our fellow passengers were Chinese, not many had waterproofs. The views are incredible and the guide was very well informed as well as amusing. Great picnic lunch too. I swapped my chocolate, cheese and cake for olives, apple and a bottle of water.
Weigh in today was the same as yesterday. I will try one more fast tomorrow as we are headed to Queenstown. Looking forward to our trip on ‘The Lady of the Lake’. Last bit of driving tomorrow, thank goodness, I need to walk, walk, walk! Flying back to Wellington on Tuesday.

G’day, Jo. Practice needed in Kiwi-ism 🙂 So pleased you had a great experience, weather being a variable beyond our control. Enjoy the old girl – we have a painting of her on our wall.

Williams are doing battle, but bed calls.

    Morning/evening all,

The first morning for quite some time that there is no frost. Apparently it is going to rain…….

I have a lovely lazy birthday yesterday watching tennis, reading and pottering around at home. In the evening I went out for dinner with a friend to a really nice gastro pub. It was packed and they were turning people away. Fortunately we had booked 🙂
I had the most tender venison with a beautiful sauce and winter veggies. It was delicious and all perfectly cooked. There were several desserts on offer but I opted for the cheese board. We drank far too much red wine so I’m surprised how well I feel this morning 😛😛

It was so nice we both want to go back and she has already booked for herself and her husband and some friends who are coming to stay next weekend.
I want to go back in the warmer weather and sample their summer menu.

My friend gave me a beautiful blown glass heart and a pair of silver filigree style star shaped drop earrings. I’m sitting here wearing them, I think thay match my PJs perfectly 😉

Needless to say, I’m fasting today!

I’m watching the Williams sisters, it’s the 5th game and Serena has already had a warning for a spectacular racquet smash.

Have a good weekend everybody 😜

    Good Morning ❤
What a beautiful vacation Jo. Sounds like your your Kiwi-ism as Barata sad is getting an upgrade. I wonder if I ever make it that far as a vacation. I hope so 😃
I’ve been a good girl lately! Believe me, I am trying.
The first action of the day was hit the scale. I am pleased and motivated.
My coffee was delicious and postponing breakfast as late as I can.
    Enjoy you day folks 💋

    Morning All,
Shocking night, kept awake by rain on tin rooves and snoring. My husband has also started breath holding, it’s torture waiting for him to start breathing again. Thank goodness that the next room has two bedrooms.

Scales still stuck at one pound up and fast planned today as short car journey to Queenstown. Be strong everyone.

    Jo,

1lb up sounds like a really good result for you! I’d call that maintenance. Remember your last trip to NZ..

You have my sympathies! My OH is also a really loud snorer. Many’s the night I’ve pondered the true purpose of a pillow… 😀

The stopping breathing is more of a worry – sleep apnoea can increase the risk of several medical conditions – your OH may be unaware he’s a sufferer and may want to get it checked out?

Hello all from a glorious morning at Jamieson. The town is slowly emptying as everyone packs up to go home – school goes back this week and holidays come to an end for most people. I love being retired!!

Happy Birthday for Friday Amazon – I did think of you but had no wifi till last night. I am glad you had a lovely celebration! Its so nice to be pleasantly surprised when you eat out isn’t it? I collected OH from bus in Mansfield yesterday, (nearest big town) so we decided to have lunch at the Golf Course. SIL has been telling us how nice it is for 16 years, but what a disappointment! The highlight was the view of the greens!

I agree with you all re quality beef. RT I buy on line from a family business in Victoria – amazing grass fed beef and lamb, delivered to my door whenever I need it. http://www.braelandsbeef.com.au/
We prefer small serves of top quality steak too and would rather pay top price and know it will be perfect. We don’t have it every week, but sometimes for me, it just has to be a steak! Looking at the menu yesterday, a Black Angus grass fed scotch fillet was $43.00 per serve. Therefore what I get for $19.00/kg does not sound so expensive. Approx $10 for us both. Obviously I buy in bulk and of course have to cook it, but these days I prefer to eat at home. Guaranteed of a good meal!!

Jo your trip sounds wonderful. I have never seen Milford Sound and would love to one day. Happy is right re your husbands sleep apnoea – really needs checking out if he is stopping breathing.. I disagree re rain on tin roof – one of my favourite sounds.

Re hated foods – only hot chillies or coriander. Coriander makes me gag just like celery does to you Amazon! Anything else I enjoy – hmm maybe thats my problem!

Wiwi I hope you are on the road soon! xx

    G’Day Fasters,
Settle in Queenstown after stopping 6 times on the route to take more photos. Some tourists are lunatics, climbing barriers to get to the edge, climbing on exposed rocks for the perfect shot. Crazy idiot, one strong breeze and they are a gonna. Plenty of strong gusts around here too.
Trouble with speed limit today, I stuck to it which annoyed other road users. I slowed on every straight bit to let them overtake. Sadly one did and got pulled by the police for speeding. I would love to say I felt sorry for him but he had been tailgating me for the previous mile of tight bends. Afraid to say I laughed as I passed him.
Happy- I know I should be glad it’s just a pound but I am not at all pleased about it as I am really doing my best to not exceed my calorie allowance. It’s really tough watching lattes being drunk while I have tea(mostly drinkable now I have learnt to avoid two brands). I am not straying from veg and fish or eggs. No luxuries at all. Of course the immobility is not helping. Just about to walk into town and plan on spending a couple of hours walking around the amazing park here which is next to the lake. I spent several hours in it last year and barely scraped the surface.
Fast going well today but I can’t manage zero calories, it will be mackerel salad tonight.
My husband has agreed to see his Doctor about the sleep apnea when he gets home. He has recently had heart checks for breathlessness but all results good so far. Blood pressure acceptable and cholesterol was low which is amazing since he lives on pork pie and cheese. He has always fasted all day though, only eats at 8 pm, drinks gallons of tea and coffee, never touches water or does any fitness. Stuck to a pic or laptop all day. Only about 1 1/2 stone overweight though.
Nama- you really must visit the South Island, it is glorious. I could meet you here someday. Maybe Others would join us? There is a challenge?
Right, time to get moving! Keep Fasting!

Jo, Mr P used to suffer from sleep apnea. …really scary for me! With weight loss, it stopped. Your OH could easily find the same by losing that extra 10kg.
Salmon salad bbq for us today. Ideal in this hot weather. We had ham and cheese galettes, made on my crepe maker outside by the pool last night. I use buckweat to make them, so the low gi makes them a healthy treat. I wish the mossies had left my exposed skin alone though…I was cooking in swimmers, so plenty of flesh to nibble 😑
Nama, you are going to miss Jamieson, aren’t you? Make the most of it. 😊
Looking forward to the boys tonight….I’m a Raffie fan. 😊😊P

Yes Purple, I would never have sold if husband still enjoyed it! I will enjoy not having the upkeep of two gardens, but I will still miss it. The smell of the air here in the early mornings is unbeatable. I am making the most of our last month though, two ‘girls weekends’ booked, plus another two for final packing.

I am looking forward to the tennis too. They are both brilliant players, Raf just has the edge for me as he is so cute!!

My OH is a terrible snorer and after a sleep study was found to have moderate sleep apnoea. CPAP machine purchased but he hated it so much he only used it for 6 months, said it made no difference. I think he needs his nose ‘rebored’ too, but he is not having that. Seems to prefer being chronically tired. He is not overweight though, weighs the same as me.

I met some local ladies in the main street yesterday and they (all 3) expressed their thanks (again!) for me sharing 5:2 with them. One has improved her back pain and another her hip pain!

SIL complaining about reflux worsening and booked for a scope. She has gained about 30 kgs gradually over the last 5 years so I am confident this will be the cause of her reflux.. mine vanished after losing weight. You can lead a horse to water though… hopefully scope will be ok and she will take my advice re fasting. Or she will have a hiatus hernia and that will scare her enough to lose some weight! Funnily enough, the first 45 years I knew her, she was the petite one and I was always on a diet. As we have grown older, the roles have reversed! Her partner is a great cook and they both have had hip replacements!!

I am with the Swiss Master very handsome dude and a champion will go to 5 sets i think so but time will tell.
Buckle up and let’s get involved
    Game On
    RT

I’m with Nama…cute wins me every time.
Dinner over…ready for the match 😊😊P

    Morning/evening all.

Jo, 1lb is the weight of a couple of glasses of water. You are in a completely different environment, eating different food, sitting around on long journeys and you are not exercising. We all know our weight varies from day to day.

I love steak and I buy ribeye or sirloin. I eat it very rare and my go to treat is steak and salad which has to contain something peppery like rocket or watercress, with a mustard based dressing.

Apparently in up to 10% of the population, coriander leaf tastes like soap!!!

Sleep apnoea needs investigating. I was involved in a research study when I was working, and all patients underwent a CT scan. Every single one of them was male, over 50 and overweigh-obese.
I am surprised to hear Mr Nama suffers but it sound more like nasal problems causing it.

I’m looking forward to the tennis, GO RAFA!!!!!!!!!

Have a good one everybody 😜

    Amazon, Nama, PVE, RT,
I am with RT, love Fedora poetry in motion. Watching it now on Sky Sports. Is there a reason they are both wearing pink trainers?

I did lots of walking today, the hill back to the hotel is a bug***, poles essential.
I have noticed that very few people use poles here, even the trekkers and walkers. At home most trekkers and many walkers use poles.

Our accommodation here has two floors, really weird, like being at home. New brand of tea tried now, Pickwick, very drinkable.

Nama- you can always rent a holiday home for a break, no upkeep. I think I will be returning to my flat when the current tennent leaves. Fed up with the upkeep of a large seaside home. It’s all work, never ending.

Famous burger made in Queenstown ‘Ferg’, believe it or not you have to queue for up to 45 minutes to get one which you the eat on the street. I tried one last year but it didn’t excite me. My husband is going to try one tomorrow, he loves a burger. I would rather have an omelette. We are on our Steamer cruise tomorrow and the weather should be good.

I hear more rain is headed to Wellington just in time for my return, seriously? It’s mid summer! What is going on? I only have 10 more days of summer before I return to winter, weather God make an effort please! Not really complaining I have had an amazing trip even with the rain and wind trying to interfere.

G’night guys ( is that right Barata?)

    No. Really only g’day 😉😉😉
    Come over here for summer!
Roger is certainly looking good 😐

    PVE,
I certainly plan to return to Sydney and Perth in the future. I would quite like to visit Canberra too as I missed it on my last trip. But India is my next holiday, researching it now.
Roger is such a pro and deserves his success, he really puts in the practise hours. I like Nadal too but not as much. Nadal actually looks very much like my brother, everyone says so, he loves it.
Thanks for correcting my efforts to fit in locally, ha ha. In fact most of the people I have had conversations with over here are not locals at all. Today I was chatting with a young lady from Essex, she is working her way around the world, good for her, mid 20’s is the time to do it. She has just done her first bungee jump, she loved it. There is so much to do here, it’s unbelievable, a real adrenoling junkie town. It,s not for me.
We did play mini golf but that’s as exciting as we get.

Most waitpeople in Sydney are ‘poms’. It’s an easy way to work and travel. Just as most pubs in the UK have Aussies working. 😊
Yhe south island NZ is truly magnificent. Something for ever traveller (except castkes and Toman ruins 😉)
I’m glad I’m not on the receiving end of 200kph serves!!

They are not wearing pink trainers, they are an almost fluorescent orange and the colour is called “clay”

Roger is a fabulous player but he is no more of a “pro” than anyone else, and he doesn’t practice more than anyone else either. He is very talented and his game style is not as physically demanding as many of the other players.
There has been talk amongst the tennis media that the label of GOAT would be in question if Rafa were to win today as it’ll take him to 15 slams which is only 2 behind Roger and at 30 he has a much better chance of winning more.

Jo, we must meet up when you get back, I’ve been to India 3 times and I love it. Having said that many people don’t take to it as they can’t cope with seeing the less pleasant side of life which is on display everywhere.

    Back to the tennis 🎾🎾🎾

    Amazon,
Thanks for the clarification. This TV must be adjusted wrong then as they definitely look pink here. I can only report on what I have heard reporters say, they always say Fedora is a workhorse. I agree age is a huge factor in this game.

I will be in London soon, probably for the weekend in March as I am recording with my Rock Choir at Abby Road Studios, exciting or what? We are making a record. I will get in touch. I may have a problem with the poverty of some parts of India, I can be very sensitive, especially where children or animals are concerned. Several of my friends have visited India and strongly recommend it.

Very indifferent 2nd set glad that’s done
tsk tsk tsk cute you girls are unreal 😉

Must be a bloke thing…Mr P is supporting Roger!

    Cmon Roger 😀

    PVE,
Are you saying I am a bloke?
    Ha Ha
But my husband is also with me in supporting Fedora
Come on mate, doing a good job now

Cmon Federer! Would love to see him win. 😄😄

Yeah lots of support for Roger!

well 2 sets to 1 the Fed Express is starting to roll go you good thing 😉

Interesting fact…Melbourne’s sunset was 33 minutes later than Sydney’s tonight.

Melbourne is further West and South of Sydney. 😎😎

I know Bay …it was obvious when it was dark here, light still at the tennis.
Our tv reception just dropped out. Gotta love digital tv in Australia 😊 We’ll have to guess the rest…

Wow, game on with 2 sets each.
Federa getting medical treatment, hope he is ok

The H2H between them is 23-11 to Rafa, and Roger hasn’t beaten him in a best of five sets match since 2007.

    Just saying…………… 😉

    Whatever result, amazing game

I’m finding this match fascinating because of the history between the two, and if Roger should go on to win this it might be considered the best win of his career for so many reasons.
    The tension must be incredible.

Unreal, what a champ, Roger is the winner

Well done Roger. Excellent game from both players!! Night all

That was an incredible match and a fabulous win for Roger. I doubt he ever believed that he would win this tournament after six months out. It’s really sad for Rafa but his best effort in a slam for several years.
It bodes well for us tennis fans.

Now I really need to give my Indian veggie dishes that are simmering on the hob some attention.

What a blood pumping final amazing control not sure how many calories one burns in a pressure final but so worth it great win Roger great gladiator like performance Nadal very gracious..Now that’s how you play elite top tennis !!

    Good Morning,
While I was taking my beauty rest this forum was on fire lol.
Looks like I need to find a way to watch this tennis match. I believe we don’t have important sports channels.
Glad to know everyone is happy and well where you are 🙏
Traveling to India is a dream of mine. My snob friends prefer seating on the beach drinking cocktails and dressing up for dinner.
I spoke with my Swiss girlfriend yesterday and in September instead of coming to the US she’ll be going to India. I wish I would join them. Well! Someday.
It’s raining here today. Our company still here. Should get them something to eat soon.
One pond up since my last happy dance.
Happy Fasting to you on tomorro’s land. I am all on tomorrow with my plan.
The news about ou crazy president decisions are horrific.
    See you later ❤

    RT
Pure determination, It worked for Roger and it worked for me. Finally lost that niggling one pound, knew it last night and confirmed it today. Now just keeping it off will require constant vigilance. Slept like a baby last night, heaven. Gorgeous day here, perfect for sailing( steaming) around the lake. Happy Days!

Now, what to have with my lettuce leaves today?

    Hello,
Thumbs up to you Jo 👏👏👏👏 Focus on you great vacation please mad woman.
    Balance, balance and balance.
A little off track today. Emotions can play that very important role on our lives.
I consider my eating window closed at 7:15pm.
    See you tomorrow 🤠🤡

Excellent Jojo high 5 with a back slap as you moon walk across the floor when the going gets tough the tough get going.
    RT

    G,day Guys,
Another incredible day both the paddle steamer and the walk around the peninsula of the park. The weather is hot, hot, hot! Applied 50 factor sun cream (twice) to save my British lily white skin.
My husband went down to the engine room to observe the coal shovelling into 4 furnasses(what a god awful job). He also went up to the Bridge to observe the Skipper steering the vessel. He is a very happy chappy. I now wish we had been able to book lunch or dinner at the farm, it was such a perfect day for a tour.
I have just walked up the steepest hill ever, Adelaide Street, from the park walk. I would not have made it without my poles because my rucksack was a fair weight and it was very hot, no shade available. I would not have made it three years ago with stopping every ten feet. Progress indeed, just one stop to take a picture.

RT- I am feeling very happy today and feel confident that with daily weigh ins I can at least maintain for the rest of this trip, I may even lose another pound just because I can.

HCB- Don’t worry about me, My fasting is not ruining my trip, I make the most of every minute of my holidays. Saying that I plan on chilling out for the rest of today and this evening. Just a few games of Crib and finish reading my book before leaving Queenstown tomorrow morning. We will miss having the car and the freedom that it brings but I will be pleased to spend more time walking.

Hope everyone has recovered from the exciting tennis game last night. I was literally on the edge of my sofa. Both players were superb.

Bought some roasted veg for dinner tonight, perfect.

    Morning/evening all,

    Damp and mild here today.

FD today and I’m going to try another recipe from Anna Jones which should make 4 FD dinners. It is a layered bake similar to a lasagne and the “white” sauce is made from mashed butter beans.

I made her dhal with sweet potato yesterday and it was delicious. I also made a very old and one of my favourite Madhur Jaffrey recipes, a mild cauliflower curry. Both dishes contained coconut milk and I halved the amount and substituted almond milk to reduce the calories. They both tasted fine with less so I’ll do the same next time I make a Thai green curry.
The dhal was so good I could have eaten the whole lot straight from the pan but it is now in the freezer along with the leftover curry for another non FD.

Jo, so glad to hear you have finally found summer 🙂

Have a good one everybody 😜

G’day Jo, we had 42 here today! It is still 30 deg inside and out now at 9pm. Even our pool water is 30! That’s hot! We took the opportunity to sit in aircon by seeing Lion. Excellent film.
Monday fasting was not too hard in this weather.
Glad you enjoyed the steamboat. Mr P enjoyed viewing the engine when we went on it too. 😊
I plan another swim before bed tonight….it apparently won’t cool off until tomorrow night. Urrrgghhhh! P
