  • So today was my first fasting day. It went fine but I did 500 calories, as I hadn’t read this site before. I read about bmr etc. and found that 500 calories is over a quarter of what I should be having, which is about 335. Should I stick to 500 or go to 335? I usually eat just below the recommended calories on a daily basis any way, so will be sticking to that on my non fast days.

I’d ideally like to loose 1 pound a week as anything more than that seems too ambitious as I’m not far off what my body should be.

Any advice would be really helpful 🙂

Congratulations on your first fasting day, You did really well.
My suggestion: Keep going with 500 calories for a while.
The important thing is to make this a sustainable way of life.
Then, if you want to try a 400 calorie fast day, give it a go and see if it is also sustainable.

Best wishes and all good things

    Hi Dolleryc and welcome:

I agree with Cinque. People just starting should go with the 500 until their bodies get used to the radical new way of eating 5:2 requires.

It will be hard for you to lose a pound a week. Your TDEE is very low and the calorie restriction each week will not add up to the 3500 you need to lose a pound. This post will explain how TDEE numbers work: https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/tdee-for-the-curious-or-why-dont-i-lose-weight-faster/

Here are some tips that will help you as you go forward with 5:2: https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/

    Good Luck!
